Senior year is going to be one of the best years of my life. I know, today is only my first day but how could it not be a wonderful year? Grandma gave me an early present for my eighteenth birthday which is in two months. She got me a cute red convertible! Even though just during the summer she had refused me asking for a car and told me I wouldn’t be getting one till I was going off to college. I can’t wait to see the look on Tony’s face when I drive into the parking lot with my awesome ride. I had texted him last night telling him not to pick me up this morning because I had a surprise for him in school.
I know I’m early, Grandma hadn’t come up to check on me like she does every morning before I leave for school. Well good days have to start early, don’t they? I take one last look at my self in the mirror and wink at my reflection before going downstairs for breakfast. As I approach the hallway, I can hear voices speaking in hums and hushed tones. The kitchen door is shut and as I get closer, I can hear grandma’s voice along with some unfamiliar voices. I’m not sure if I should go in because grandma seems to be in the middle of a serious conversation. ‘Grandma?’ I call out softly but audibly. The place goes quiet for a second and then I hear grandma cheerfully call me to come in. I’m relieved she sounds cheerful, I was getting a little worried. I step into the kitchen and grandma is already walking towards me with a nervous and suspicious smile on her face. She hugs me ‘Morning Annie’ ‘Morning Grandma’ I tell her and then over her shoulder, I see two strangers standing by the kitchen sink. A man and a woman. They are both dressed smartly, the man in a loose black shirt, jeans and boots. The woman wore a simple shirt, jeans and boots. The woman walks forward smiling. ‘Hy Annie’ The woman greets me. I feel strange, there’s a very strong scent here and even though it’s not unpleasant, I feel like I need to sit down. The lady seems very familiar, like I have seen her somewhere before, funnily, so does the man, but I can’t remember ever meeting them. ‘Do I know you?’ I ask and before I get an answer, I feel very lightheaded and Grandma leads me to a chair to sit. The strange familiar woman offers me water and as I thanked her, I wondered if the glass of water was there already because that was very fast. ‘We’re glad to know that our connection is still whole.’ The woman says ‘Connection?’ I ask ‘Can we not jump into this?’ Grandma says through gritted teeth. ‘There’s no time for this Joan, you have to let this go.’ The man speaks up calmly not leaving the sink. ‘Let her go, you mean? That life is not for her.’ Grandma seems to be getting heated. I can feel her arm shaking around me. 'She isn't ready, she is not for all that.' ‘At least let her decide.’ The woman says ‘Decide what?’ I say loudly. They were starting to bicker and even though the scent wasn’t as strong anymore, I still felt lightheaded. They’re quiet now. Grandma sits opposite me. 'To stay here and be killed or come home and train to achieve your fullest potential and end this war.' Grandma stood up very fast that her chair almost tipped over and she didn’t even look angry, she looked Alarmed and scared. I wanted to laugh. What war? Or dip my head in cold water. Killed? Me? Is this a joke? It sounds like a joke but everyone looks so serious here. I can feel my throat go dry. ‘I don’t understand’ my shaky voice says. ‘Grandma, what’s going on?’ Grandma is still starring at Sheryl but then she turns towards me and I see tears in her eyes. She sits back down slowly and reaches for my hand. ‘I should have told you, Annie. I should have told you a long time ago.’ She says ‘Grandma can you tell me what’s going on?’ I wanted to explode. I really wanted to. I still felt lightheaded and I felt sick too. ‘I lied to you Annie. Your parents didn’t die in a plane crash.’ She sighed as she said this turned to Sheryl who nodded her head and then turned back to me. ‘They were killed at war.’ It was like the more grandma spoke, the more confusing whatever was going on got. ‘Like they were soldiers?’ Was that what she meant? ‘No baby, werewolves.’ Grandma said looking me straight in the eyes. I hear myself chuckle but grandma doesn’t smile. She’s serious. ‘Werewolves grandma? Like werewolves from the movies grandma.’ My grandma shook her head and she looked so sadly at me. ‘ No Annie, werewolves are real. Your parents were, I am, you are, they are.’ She turns towards them briefly. My head is spinning. ‘I don’t know what to say’ ‘Annie, your grandma is right and I know all this must come confusing to you’ Sheryl says. I lean back dizzily into the chair ‘And don’t worry, soon your body will feel normal again. Whatever you’re feeling is because you haven’t come in contact with any of your pack members in a while. It shows that you’re still connected to us.’ ‘Pack members?’ I whispered ‘Pack members are a group-‘ I cut the man short ‘ I know what pack members are’ ‘Annie, I’m Kelt, I was your father’s Be- Close friend.’ I would like you to remain as calm as you can be and get ready to understand what we are going to explain to you.’ I don’t know why but the man’s voice is soothing and firm and before I know it, my heartbeat is slowing and I am nodding my head. Kelt faces grandma and he sounds soothing and softer this time ‘I thought her protection is your priority, Isn’t that why you gave up so much? You can’t fight them alone, You can’t fight him alone. I know how you feel but this is what she is meant to do.This is what they wanted. It is time Joan. Time for her. This is what they wanted.’ He holds grandma’s stare for a while and when she suddenly breaks away Kelt walks to us and sits on a stool . ‘You’re saying I’m a werewolf, not a human being?’ I still think I might be dreaming Kelt gives me a ‘we’re still there?’ look but settles with rolling his eyes and nodding his head. ‘Your life is in very grave danger, Annie. You need to come with us, NOW!’ He says sounding urgent but still acting relaxed. He sounds crazy too. ‘I- what about school? Tony/ MY FRIENDS?’ ‘You won’t be seeing them either if you’re dead now, will you?’ I gasp. I glare at the strange man who calls himself Kelt. What exactly is happening? Some dream? I look out the window and I can see vehicles drive by and people hurrying off to places. I am still in New York, and it is still a busy Monday morning. Still the first day of school after summer. I turn around and these new faces are still here, in fact they seem to be waiting for me to say something. I can’t explain how I feel right now. This all sound stupid but why do I feel like it’s real. Something about me is so calm with all this. I turn to grandma who looks so solemn that I want to start running to wherever with these guys. I stand up from the chair and crouch beside her, I reach out and clasp her hands with mine. ‘Talk to me grandma.’ I plead with my eyes. This can’t be a movie. My grandma has only been this scared when she got the call that I had been an accident with john my neighbor and a few other friends from school. In all my years I’ve lived with grandma that was the only time I had seen her scarred when she was visiting me in the hospital. Then there’s now of course. She looks like I’m dead already. ‘We need to go with them Annie. I will explain later but for now get what you need. I can’t tell how long we’ll be gone’ ‘Or if you’ll be back’ Kelt says while biting into an apple Grandma snorts. I go back upstairs So many thoughts are going through my head as I throw my stuff into bags. What is going on? Am I really a werewolf? Why haven’t I transformed? Can I transform? What do I tell tony? What happens when I miss so much of school? AM I really a werewolf? Does someone really want me dead? Is this real? I have to admit that was genuinely all i could think of. If this was real Out of the corner of my eye, I see a figure just behind me and impulsively I duck while striking out my left leg but whoever it is gracefully and swiftly moves to the side while I quickly balance myself while crouching. ‘That was very impressive’ Kelt says looking more surprised than affected by the hit he just missed. I stand up quickly ‘Why are you sneaking up on me? I would have hit you hard, I was tensed.’ He snorted rudely as if to say ‘As if’ ‘I walk lightly, you just didn’t hear me come in. Which is poor of you of course’ He is mocking me. I swallow. I am a very well trained fighter, I have been training martial arts since I was just six years old. Grandma also makes sure I train often with her. ‘I was just very distracted, Grandma says its okay to get distracted as far as you get back on track. And I did. You’re still standing because you’re you.’ To my annoyance, Kelt doesn’t look shaken, he is rather amused. In fact he lets out what I can call a small laugh. ‘Of course, so much fire like Diane. I hope you take their openness to growth too. They were so committed to reaching their full potential. They were hungry for more of themselves even if they knew how great they already were.’ He picks up two of my bags and when he’s at the door he stops ‘And yet so humble’. ‘I cant wait for you to meet the others’ He says. Then he was gone. I listened for footsteps but I heard none despite the weight of the boxes. I wonder if that’s a werewolf thing or a Kelt thing. I settled with a Kelt thing considering Grandma is apparently a werewolf too and on some days her footsteps can be heard all over the house. Kelt was definitely talking about my parents. He mentioned my mother’s name. Diane. Diane and Roge. At least grandma didn’t lie about that. I won’t lie, I feel unhappy that all this has been hidden for me but one thing I know, I can trust my grandma with my life. Whatever she did to protect me. I’m still waiting for someone to tell me this is all a joke but With that look on her face, I would believe anything now. And what did Kelt mean when he said the others? Who are the others?Everything that happened within the past 24 hours is still blurry to me. And I am still unclear about my situation. Grandma, Kelt, Sheryl and I boarded a plane leaving New York to Canada. Then we took the longest drive, I have ever been in in my entire life. Night came and it started raining, we had been driving in the woods for three hours. I guess that was when I got overwhelmed realizing that this was all true, that I was a werewolf? And so was Grandma? And we were going to the land of werewolves. I might never see the lights of New York city again, or any city for that matter. I might never see my friends again or go to the movies or starbucks. I might never see Tony again or I might be dead soon. I began to cry lightly. Grandma wrapped her arms around me pulling me into a hug, I rested my head on her laps and cried softly while she stroke my hair. She apologized over a thousand times for not telling me who I really was and told me that remembering it all broke her heart and mad
CHAPTER 3 Time seems to be moving faster than usual, maybe this is so because I am still floating about my new reality unable to fully comprehend what is happening. The mansion we were taken to has to be one of the most beautiful and fanciest I have ever stepped foot in. It’s exquisite and Lavish interior décor had me wondering who it was that lived here. Old fashioned Lamp attached to Lamp holders stand in most corners of the room. Even though most if not all of the lamps were turned off, the house was lit by mini sized chandeliers at top corners of the ceiling. And the leather furniture had a nice feel to them. The house is classy and beautiful period. My room looks like a princess’s room. It has a king sized four poster bed, it’s walls are painted pink and a large balcony. The whole town seems to be dark and asleep. What do i call it? A town? A village? A werewolf city? Grandma’s story comes back rushing to my head. The horrible story I was told hours ago. It w
CHAPTER 4 You will be disappointed to find out I spent my night shivering in fear of the return of the large dark wolf I had an encounter with. I was up most of the night and I could not move an inch. In fact, I almost could not let myself breathe scared that he was around and coming in at one of the times. I wanted to run to Grandma but as I am still unfamiliar with my environment I am in so I did not want to risk running through the mansion halls in confusion while that wolf sprang out of somewhere. When Grandma came to wake me up this morning, I had myself wrapped tightly in my sheets and I had a headache. Grandma starred at me strangely as I opened my eyes. I sat up and stretched yawning. ‘Good morning grandma.’ I said and Grandma sat on the edge of my bed with a worried expression. ‘Morning baby.’ She said. ‘Is everything okay?’ She said and put an arm around my shoulders. ‘Mhmm.’ I reply nodding my head. ‘Why?’ She raises and eyebrow at me, ‘You look like you
When Sheryl, Grandma and I got into the car, I was a little excited that we would be following the busy part of Silverwoods, the part I and Grandma were looking at from my balcony earlier on. I was anxious to see more of the pack members, to see how they live. It does not mean that I am interested, just simply curious. But Sheryl surprised me by taking a tarred road on the left. I felt disappointed but grandma did not. Even though this path was lonely with trees and woods that looked colorful with different colors and types of climbing flowers, she looked fascinated by it. I understood that she had missed her home so much. We got to a manor mansion and Grandma and I got down while Sheryl drove off after telling us the guards will lead us in. And they did. I walked into a large spaced office room and noticed 6 pairs of eyes starring at me. Kelt and Sheryl stood side by side leaning against the wall with their dark hair pulled back into a low bun and complimenting their
I can not remember the last time I had a proper good night’s sleep. My second night just went by and it was far from pleasant. The Anxiety of beginning in my new school has me all in twists. And my disappointment meeting with the keepers has been unable to get out of my mind too. The Alpha Especially, he must be one of the most annoying human beings I have ever met. Alpha Vane had decided that we would all meet again by the end of the week at the Alpha Mansion. He had walk up to me after the meeting and I thought he was going to come over to say something but he just walked right pass me with that stupid smirk on his face and a whisper. ‘Let’s see how much you like to kick ass.’ Of course no one noticed, grandma had left me to talk to some of the keepers while I waited for her. And that was how my meeting went with them. Grandma and Sheryl tried to be chatty in the car. Telling me how nice it is that I finally get to go to silverwoods high just like my mum and grandma
Seth led me through the halls of Silverwood high with a double hall pass that he showed to the hall monitors whenever they stop us. He was pointing out rooms, labs, classes, the library, the cafeteria then he took me to what looked like a smaller building sepeprated from the school’s building. ‘’Now to the most exciting part of our school, the combat room. He pushed open the large wooden beche doors and reveals a large spacious room. ‘This is were we challenge ourselves and our wolves.’ He said to me and smiled. ‘You would love to see this.’ He showed me to a corner of the room and we stood in front of what looked like the hall of fame in a show glass. At the top is a picture of a young girl with a wide smile and her hair wrung up in a bun. What was written below was ; For the fourth time, Diane becomes Silverwoods physical and wolf combat champion. ‘Mom?’ I whisper starring up at the picture of the younger girl above a line of cups with her name written on them. ‘Yes.’
Immediately the end of the day came, I was anxious to return home. “So, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?” Seth told me I nodded my head with a tight smile. If I could get away with it, I would never come back here. Oh! The looks that I had received, the way I felt out of place. I looked past him to see his sister coming towards us. I had had enough of everyone for today. This whole town in fact. “Yeah. Bye then.” I said to him in a hurry and then I walked past him. He did not know but I was having a really bad time being here. I hurried out of the school premises to avoid everyone. I walked with my head down worried that some one would look at me and somehow know who I am. I just kept on walking not sure of where I was going. When I got to the end of a road, I saw that further meant going in to the woods. I looked awoken and since no one was looking at me, I went in to the woods quickly. I don’t know what exactly I was doing there. But the thought of leaving this place came to
(ANNIE’S POV) When I got home, Grandma was laughing with someone in the living room. I took the back so that I would not have to come out front and meet whoever it was. Then I went to the kitchen for some water. I was just turning around when I gasped seeing Grandma and a strange man in front of me. “Sorry Annie.” Grandma said with a smile. “Yeah sorry Annie.” The strange man said too. As I looked at him again, with his spiky blond hair and warm smile, I realized that he seemed familiar. “It’s okay.” I murmured “We sensed someone in the house and seeing as the person did not come through the front door, we had to be careful .” The man said “Okay.” I said Of course we had to be extra extra careful. That Alpha X could just show up anytime. “Annie you met Roy earlier today. He is one of the keepers.” Grandma said with a nervous smile as she put an arm around me. That must be why he looked so familiar to me. “It’s a pleasure to meet you again Annie.” He said to me taking my h
(BRAD’S POV)“Nah! Hell No dude!” Rico, Henry’s cousin said as he shook his head and tried to close the door he had only held open for some seconds. His eyes had initially been wearing a smile when he saw Henry but immediately he saw Bella, his expression changedz“Rico Please.” Henry begged using his foot to hold the door open. “My wife is in there. Why the fuck are you bringing a dead girl over to my house? Are you crazy?” Rico said angrily as he came out and closed the door behind him after pushing Henry backwards. “She’s not dead! She’s only drunk!” I said immediately. Rico stayed unmoving with his eyes just watching Bella as she lay in my arms . “Please Rico, we don’t have anywhere else to go. We would be in so much trouble if we go to anyone else for help.” Henry begged. Bella started muttering to herself and that seemed to make Rico feel better about it.“You owe me big time. You know what that means.” Rico said as he signaled us to follow him.“He wants some cash.” Henry
(ANNIE’S POV)“Well I really think that you should not be listening to what anyone says.” Jessica said as we walked home.By anyone, she was actually referring to Keeper Tana.“And If Janelle was the one who had won the match and you had been carried out looking like a dead leaf, then I know that she would not have complained.” Jessica said.As much as I was feeling guilty, I had to admit that Jessica was actually right. Keeper Tana was being very partial towards me. During the last match we had, she was the one who had subjected me to an open fight without letting me agree, that’s not among the rules to begin with. Then on top of that, she did not even show the slightest bit of care “I don’t know why she doesn’t lien me.” I admitted to Jessica.“Oh! You should not bother yourself, really.” Jessica said with a wave of her hand. “I don’t really think Tana likes anyone to begin with.”“Yeah I understand but she’s just so anti towards me.” I said sadly.“Well you should not let that br
(ANNIE’S POV)The whole room was as silent as a graveyard and it was almost like no one was going to say a word. All their gazes had now focused on me. Even Keeper Tana looked like she was surprised to see that I stood up from my seat. “Annie. Please don’t let Janelle get to you. Annie.” Jessica tried to call me in a whisper but I did not listen to her. “I will be okay.” I whispered to her quickly. Then, I simply walked in ahead to stand opposite Janelle.Janelle was surprised as well at first but then a sly smile climbed on her face as she spun her hair in to bun. I did the same with my hair.“I have to say, I didn’t expect that you would be persistent. At least you have one thing above you that matches being a chosen one. As for me, Getting to beat you two times in one week?” Janelle said with a laugh. “That would be a Great pleasure for me .”“Annie, you should not let your ego get in between you. Sometimes we lose fights, sometimes we win.” I could hear Keeper Tana’s voice from
(ANNIE’S POV)Grandma made sure that I spent two more days at home without going to school after my mate. She had seen some bruises on my body and was bent on making me spend time to recover properly at home. The only thing that made me sad about it was the fact that I had not gotten to see Jessica yet.Grandma said she wanted me to rest but she had no idea that I was still finding a way to keep practicing day and night. Nothing was going to stop me. Not even her strictness. So, when she finally let me out on the third day and inspected me as I got ready to leave for school, I hoped that she would not notice anything about my looks again.“You look well rested. I know it’s combat day today but please be careful.” She said to me giving me a hug.I actually felt excited to return back to school and when I saw Jessica, I was even more excited.“If i did not see you today, I was going to make sure that I killed Seth.” Jessica said as she slung her arm around me and we walked together to
(VANE’S POV)The moment I got indoors, I dumped the bags on a table and let out a loud growl as I paced about the open space. I wanted to yell. I wanted to fight. I wanted to break things. I wanted to snap a tree in to two. How dare he? How dare he?“Young Alpha?” Lucian’s voice interrupted me and my thoughts.“Lucian.” I answered simply with a growl in my throat. I was truly not in a good moment and I really doubt that even Lucian could make me feel like talking to him. The older man walked closer to me carefully and looked around. Then I saw his eyes light up as they landed on the paper bags that I had just dumped on the table “You paid a visit to the diner? Did you go for me, because I know you hardly go there?” Lucian said as he walked over to the table to glimpse at the paper bags.I have no idea what the hell I had just bought. I only went in there because of Annie.I had paid a visit to her in her room but she was not there and so I had decided to trace her scent. I found
(ANNIE’S POV)As I brushed my hair gently and wore an Alice band, I could not help but think that I had not seen Alpha Vane recently. The last time I saw him was days ago, after the welcome party. The night I had read the book he had written. His own dark encounter of the war that took his family and his pack members .Seeing as he is someone who doesn’t like to express himself easily, I believe it must have been hard for him to open up to tell me that or maybe he was not coming around anymore because he simply wanted to make sure that I owned up to my responsibilities of being the Chosen one and since I was doing that, he wasn’t interested in coming around anymore.A little bit of disappointment gnawed at me from inside but I pushed it aside as grandma came in to my room.“Oh. You look pretty.” She said to me in admiration.“Thanks Grandma.” I said with a smile.I wouldn’t say that I look pretty. I mean not with that fresh red scar that was sitting below my lip, thanks to Janelle fo
(ANNIE’S POV)“It’s the chosen one looking as beat as ever. I really do hope she is the one we are relying on or we will be dead already.” A girl said as she walked by me in the hallway. Her and hee group of friends giggled and I shook my head while Jessica rolled her eyes.“I wish I could hit someone in the face.” Jessica said with a tightened fist.I knew that she was not joking. If she was allowed to, she would have beaten up a few people just this morning. It was no surprise to me that the news of my lost match with Janelle was circulating school the next morning. “Don’t bother yourself. They are not worth it.” I said closing my locker door shut and walking with her to our next class together.“Are you okay?” Jessica asked politely and I nodded.“I’m fine. Maybe just stressed. I got up really early this morning and trained.” I said.Jessica turned to me with wide eyes.“You did? But you are not strong enough. How did you? Did Joan let you do that?” She asked in amazement.“No sh
(ANNIE’S POV)“I’m alright Grandma.” I replied her weakly for what seemed to be like the thousandth time. “Well, you don’t look alright.” Grandma said to me and kept on complaining.Jessica and Seth had followed one of the town’s warriors who helped me to get back home after the fighting match with Janelle. It was not like I could not walk or anything, they simply won’t let me try to walk home myself. They left me with grandma who had not stopped complaining because she heard that I was in an open fight in the senior group and on my first day as well.“Why on earth will Tana even do this? You’re not accustomed to the ways of an open fight. She was just trying to be mean.” Grandma complained. “Besides I believe what your friend said.”Jessica was angry as well. She said that Janelle had used her wolf skills even though she had not transformed. I really did not care.I know that it annoyed me when I saw Janelle with an annoying smirk on her face while I was being helped away. “Please
(ANNIE’S POV)I stood rubbing my own shoulders and feeling a little bit anxious as I stood behind Roy while he argued with Tana. I could hear quite clearly.“She has no wolf!” Tana argued.“No one is fighting in wolves until the day of the competition so there’s no harm in her being in the class.” Roy said sternly.“And so what good will it be if she joins the senior group when she can’t even try to partake in the competition?” Tana went on to say.“I just want you to give her a chance. She’s well skilled. Too skilled to be in the Mid group.” Roy said in a pleading tone. They argued a little more for a few second and then Roy came and tapped my shoulders with a smile.“Knock ‘em out.” He whispered to me with a wink as he walked away. I offered a nervous smile to Tana but it met her icy stare and she turned around with a hiss.“Come in. I do not have all day.” She said loud and clear for me to come in.I came in to the large dojo room. It was bigger than the one I had just left with ol
