MEET THE KEEPERS PART 1

CHAPTER 4

You will be disappointed to find out I spent my night shivering in fear of the return of the large dark wolf I had an encounter with. I was up most of the night and I could not move an inch. In fact, I almost could not let myself breathe scared that he was around and coming in at one of the times.

I wanted to run to Grandma but as I am still unfamiliar with my environment I am in so I did not want to risk running through the mansion halls in confusion while that wolf sprang out of somewhere.

When Grandma came to wake me up this morning, I had myself wrapped tightly in my sheets and I had a headache.

Grandma starred at me strangely as I opened my eyes. I sat up and stretched yawning.

‘Good morning grandma.’ I said and Grandma sat on the edge of my bed with a worried expression.

‘Morning baby.’ She said. ‘Is everything okay?’ She said and put an arm around my shoulders.

‘Mhmm.’ I reply nodding my head. ‘Why?’

She raises and eyebrow at me, ‘You look like you did not have enough sleep.’ She said.

Well I do know that she is right about that and it’s not just the scary encounter with the wolf, it was the realization of my reality, The story grandma told me.

Coming to terms that my parents were not just normal human beings the way I have always thought them to be but they were both strong and powerful werewolves and not just regular werewolves, (Alpha and Luna werewolves.) and coming to instead of dying from a regular plane crash my parents were murdered by a dangerous Alpha X who I am expected to defeat.

Okay, I may not have come to terms with the part that has me defeating the wicked Alpha X that grandma had told me about.

I am just Annie not some hero or legend like what I heard about my parents who sacrificed their life for their pack members.

‘Can you hear me Annie?’ Grandma shakes me lightly looking more worried than she had been. I happened to have zoned off again. Grandma’s facial expression suddenly looks funny to me and chuckle. She does not look amused.

‘I am fine Grandma.’ I told her with a smile.

Grandma sighs, ‘You look like you fought a ghost last night.’ She said and I giggled at the closeness.

‘Well, not a ghost but maybe a Wolf.’ I said

Grandma wrinkled her eyebrows at me at first and then when she realized that I was serious, she gasped wide eyed.

‘Not exactly fought too..’ I said and then I proceeded to tell Grandma about my encounter with the large dark wolf.

‘Well one thing I know is that that is definitely not Alpha X and I don’t think they were trying to eat you.’ Grandma said giving me a wink. ‘But he might have been trying to scare you a little and he got a kick for it.’

She patted my chin proudly.

‘Well I in turn stayed awake scared that he might come back.’ Grandma laughs at me and then tugs my sheets off.

‘Now, let’s go rummage through our new kitchen, see what they have for us.’

As I stood up from the bed, I notice Grandma stand up and walk to my balcony, pushing asides the curtains and opening the doors as she reaches it.

Sunshine floods into my room and I see how brightly whitened my room walls are. Grandma lets out a gasp as she stands at the balcony.

I go to join her and I see ahead of me the most beautiful scene I have ever seen, trees, mountains with colorful flowers stood above what looked like a town. The balcony was a distance from the town but I could see people moving about just like a normal town with normal people. There were lots of kids going to school as it was just past 7.00 am at that time.

They seemed to be busy opening shops and stalls and driving, cycling and walking about.

‘Wow.’ I whispered just as a loud doorbell rang throughout the whole house. Grandma cringed a little startled by the doorbell.

‘Come down soon for breakfast okay, I’ll go see who it is.’ Then she walked off grumbling about how loud the doorbell was.

I put on a pair of sweat pants and t- shirt just like grandma and head down the stairs scrolling through my phone. Horrified, I see that there is no internet.

‘no no no no no no.’ I said running downstairs and calling on to grandma unsure of where the front door or kitchen or anywhere was.

‘Annie what’s wrong.’ Grandma came up to me and steadied me. I shoved the phone screen in her face.

‘There’s no network connection here grandma.’ I cried. ‘Please tell me that we would not be living here without the internet.’

Grandma looked at me with an apologetic expression and I just knew what that meant instantly. My heart sadly broke into a million pieces and my shoulders came down in sad resignation.

‘How did you sleep Annie?’ It was only then that I noticed Sheryl standing behind grandma still dressed in all black.

‘Not so well.’ I told her truthfully and her and grandma exchanged looks. She came up to me then and put an arm on my shoulder.

‘I understand that you are devasted about the unavailability of the internet to you and I am very sorry about that.’ She said trying to console me. ‘How about you and I talk about how to solve that later but for now, there’s somewhere we all have to be.’

‘Where is that?’ I asked her and Grandma stepped forward.

‘You need to meet with the keepers Annie.’ Grandma said calmly.

‘The what?’ I said.
