Aiden was on his way to work. He wanted to reach at least two hours earlier than usual so that he could check the computers in his building to see if anyone was involved in this Ponzi scheme. He sat in the back of his limousine, busy returning emails and text messages while his driver Fabian took him to work.
It was 6:05 am and Katherine got up and decided to take a run to clear her mind before starting her busy day, she also thought that it was about time she started taking care of herself more for the sake of her children, and exercise was the way to start. She knew she had to do something to take her mind off of her doomed love life and work and exercise always helped other people, so she figured she’d give it a try too.She had been running for around half an hour, when she reached the park. There was an enormous oak tree where she stopped and decided to do some stretches. Her muscles were already sore because they weren’t used to these vigorous activities. She was halfway through her stretches when she spotted a silver Buick parked along the road way near the park. It seemed so strange that a luxurious vehicle would just be parked there for no reason. That’s when she saw someone who looked familiar standing close to the car, Kat immediately realized it was Violet and she was standing there with a man dressed in a trench coat and felt hat. Katherine thought the scene looked like something from a mystery movie. The two had a few heated words thrown at each other for a while from the looks of their body languages and then the man finally stuffed a brown paper bag in Violet’s hands. There was a logo on the bag, but Katherine was too far away to get a proper look at it.Katherine’s suspicions grew when she noticed both Violet and the mysterious man were wearing sunglasses, and the sun wasn't even out as yet.Violet suddenly began to act fidgety, stuffing the brown paper bag down into her tote bag, then she glanced around the area, acting even more suspicious before she crossed the street and bustled down the road before disappearing around the corner. The man stayed put for awhile. He also gave his surrounding one last scan and when he was sure Violet was long gone. He hopped into the Buick and sped off.Katherine finished up her stretches while she thought about this strange exchange between her ex-sister-in-law and this suspicious fellow. She shook it from her mind while she began jogging again. She jogged for another ten minutes while she was coming up at the bend. A corner leading up to the wealthiest part of the neighborhood. She was pushing her limbs past the burn that she didn’t realize that a car was coming. She gasped when she felt the cold murky water hitting the bottom half section of her body.“You’ve got to me kidding me,” she gasped, using her hand to flash the mud from her leggings. “Hey," she gave out “Didn’t you see me jogging here?” She fumed. The driver of the black limousine didn't even honk or stop. He didn’t even so much as slowed down to even issue a quick apology, he must have been going way over the speed limit. It was illegal to drive over 40 mph in this part of the neighborhood, incase one of the rich kids were riding on a bike or a scooter.Katherine watched as the limo disappeared but not before she caught a glimpse of the chiseled face man who was giving it to someone over the phone. Anger coursed through her body as she turned and ran in the direction of her house. She got home and immediately took a well-needed shower, then went to eat breakfast with her children. She was grateful that she had Ms. Polly around to help her with things around the house. Ms. Polly had been with the O'Hare family for many years, and when Katherine and Nile were together in Virginia, Miss Polly was always nice to them.“Good morning, Ms. Polly.”“Good morning Ms. katherine.”“Please, I told you to call me Katherine. No, Miss is needed.”“Okay Katherine. We have blueberry pancakes, egg and ham omelette, toast and fresh fruits.”“I'll have the omelette and toast please,” Katherine said while she poured herself some steaming hot coffee. She sat with her children and ate, and she thought that the only thing missing was their father. She decided not to wallow, so she found delight in conversing with her kids and encouraging them to be the best versions of themselves. After breakfast, the school bus came and took the children to school, Katherine then drove herself to work. She immediately started working on an order that she had for a little girl's fifth birthday party. She was to make thirty cupcakes and a two-tier unicorn cake. While working, she kept thinking about what she saw in the park and wondered what Violet was doing. It was obvious that whatever she was doing was shady, or else why would she be there so early and why would they be disguised? She never got along well with Violet because she was a bitch to people for no reason. Violet was snobbish because she had money, plus she was just overall not such a decent person.Katherine wondered why most people with money acted as if they were better than others, for example, the person in the limousine. They must have seen her because she was wearing a neon blue top and white leggings. She felt unnerved that someone could splash another person with filthy, muddy water and not even show an ounce of remorse. Maybe it was best they never came out of the car because she certainly would have given them a piece of her mind. She remembered the licence plate number well, so if she ever saw that vehicle again, she would ripped it into them.It was almost three thirty when Katherine finished her order. Since it was Thursday, the children would leave school early. The school bus normally dropped them off at the Café, so Katherine didn't have to worry about picking them up.The little bell hanging over the door chimed as Nola and Nathan burst inside, arguing.“I choose cupcakes with strawberry filling," gave out Nola.“And I chose lemon squares with chocolate drizzle,” shouted Nathan.Katherine quickly came from behind the counter to see what the commotion was about.“Quiet down, you two, remember this is a place of business,” she replied as customers started to stare at the two children.“Sorry, mom," the twins said in unison.“Let's go into the employee lounge and sort out whatever you two are fussing about." She ushered her children away from the customers. The three of them entered the parlor, and the children plopped down on opposite ends of the sofa. Katherine sighed before asking, “What's the issue now?”“Nate's being dumb.”“Nola's being an idiot.”They both spoke at the same time."Alright, so we are going to start by stop calling each other names. And we are going to take turns to speak,” Katherine ordered. “Nate will go first.”“Why because he was born first?” Nola pouted and Katherine giggled. Nola sighed and slumped onto the sofa.“So Mrs. Valdez gave us this project to work in pairs to do some fundraising,” Nate began. “She suggested that we could sell things or offer other services. Being that you're a baker, we decided to sell baked goods, right?”“Right,” Katherine agreed.“I told negative Nola here that we could sell lemon bars, and she said no,” Nate finished.“No name-calling,” Katherine reminded him.“Sorry,” he apologized.“I said no because most persons don't like lemon,” Nola began. “I mean, I don't like lemon, but I love strawberries, most people like strawberries, right, mom?”Katherine rubbed her temples and sighed before she spoke. “Listen you two, I'm sure your teacher didn't give this assignment for you to fuss and fight with each other. ““We know that,” the twins said in unison.“We know it's about working together to get something done,” said Nola, being the smart girl that she is.“We also know that it's about feeling proud when we do good," added Nathan.“Then why are we here?” Asked Katherine.“Because we can't decide on what to make,” the twins said. They then paused and looked at each other, then smiled and said in unison. “We'll make both.”Katherine looked up at the ceiling, shook her head and chuckled. “You two are something else,” she laughed and gave them a hug.“Mom, do you think you can get them done by tomorrow?” Nate asked.“Well, I have some leftover batter. I can add the strawberries and lemon to make your treats.”“Great, we can start selling on Saturday then,” Nola clapped.“But I have a baseball match to watch on TV,” Nate complained.“I'm gonna need your help with decorating if we are to finish by tomorrow,” Katherine said to the two of them.“No problem that we can handle,” Nola said.“Nola will help you with the decorating. I will help with the packaging,” said Nathan.“Fine, as long as the work is getting done,” Katherine stated.“You know what they say,” Nola started.“Teamwork makes the dream work,” the twins finished together. The next day, Katherine went to work and was ready to start her day off with an enthusiastic attitude. She hoped and prayed that today would be an excellent day. She felt confident that her business would get a head start in sales. It had made headlines on a local blogging site on the internet. It only had around one hundred followers, but you had to start somewhere. She was checking on her order requests for the day when one of her employees approached her. “Good morning Miss. Riley,” the petite redhead said. “Good morning, Lexie, what's up?” “Well we are short-staffed today since Vicky, Matthew, Clem, Ryan, and Anthony are out with the flu.” “What? You've got to be kidding me.” Katherine said in disbelief. “Not at all. They all tried calling you, but your phone went straight to voicemail,” Lexie stated. “My phone died last midnight and I haven't checked my messages.” “Oh I see. Don't worry, though, we can handle today by ourselves,” Lexie smiled. Katherine was in a p
Katherine arrived at Windsor Corp and parked in the car lot. She took a deep breath before grabbing the orders she redid and exited the vehicle. She hoped that this would change the disgruntled customer’s mind about leaving her a bad review. Her business was new and this could ruin its chances of becoming successful. She uttered a small word of prayer before she entered the building. Upon entering, her eyes lit up at how magnificent the space was. It was one of those modern-looking skyscrapers with at least a hundred floors. The luxurious interior made her feel way out of place with its expensive cashmere smell, but Katherine appreciated the hint of mint sweets circulating in the air. She inhaled appreciatively as she walked further inside the building and was even more astounded at how distinctive and sophisticated the decor and high-end furniture were. She came to an halt when she noticed the employees staring at her. It made her feel awkward. They were all well-dressed and everyt
Katherine was furious when she got back to her café. How could someone be so arrogant and disrespectful? She felt bad when he disrespected her business, but when he spoke about her husband, not knowing her or anything about her life, that was the last straw. She didn't care about his review, she just wanted to get a little revenge for what he said and especially for splashing her with his car. With that attitude, he might as well have been the one who was driving. A slight smile played on her lips as she remembered the joy she felt when she doused him with the cappuccino. He was so enraged and flustered and that was very satisfying for her. She made a mental note that she would call Taryn and tell her about her encounter with the customer from hell. She announced her presence to Lexie, who informed her that her children were in the lounge waiting for her. She went to see what they were up to and found them both sitting on the couch with matching textbooks and pencils in hand.“Hello,
The twins were growing tired. The sun was out and getting warmer as the minutes passed by. “I'm thirsty,” Nate complained as he stopped to catch his breath, resting his hands on his hips as he exhaled. “Just a few more houses and I promise we'll find him,” Nola sighed. She was also sweating and breathing heavily, but her plan was in motion, and she felt that she was close to finding a husband for her mother. Miss Polly was parched, she promised herself that this would be the last time she did anything like this. Her bones just were too old for such strenuous activities anymore, plus the children were being odd when they knocked on doors where a gentleman would answer. She removed the bag pack on her back that she had most of the baked goods in, plus she had some water and juice packed in there for the kids. She plucked a bottled water from the bag. “Here you go, Nathan,” she handed the boy the bottle.“Thanks, Miss Polly.” Nathan finished the bottle in two go, he had to pause to ca
Nola just stood there, staring at the massive building. For some reason, she thought the top reached the clouds. She was standing at the front door long enough for her brother to catch up to her. “You know we're grounded, don't you,” he said, tired. His sister turned to him and saw him bending forward with his hand on his knees and gasping for air. “Well, it will be worth it because mom's new husband is in this house right now.” She spoke while keeping her eyes on the massive doors. This house was even bigger than Grandma Deborah’s. “And how'd you know that?” Nate questioned. He thought his sister was weird sometimes. “I don’t know, Nate. A woman just knows these things sometimes,” Nola let out. “Whatever, let's just get this over with and done,” Nathan rolled his eyes. “There's a problem,”“What is it now?” Nola pointed to the doorbell that was much too high for them to reach. “Amateur,” Nate rolled his eyes as he folded his fist and used his knuckles to knock on the door. Mrs. Lewis went back inside to speak to the children. She saw Miss Polly sitting beside them.“Ah, you must be Miss Polly, the children's chaperone,” Mrs. Lewis shook the lady's hand. “I'm Mrs. Lewis.”“Lovely meeting you, Mrs. Lewis,” she smiled as her eyes roamed around the room. “I hope the twins weren't any trouble.” “Nonsense, they are little angels,” Mrs. Lewis grinned. “Then you really don't know the twins, Mrs. Lewis,” Miss Polly giggled. “It is getting late, and I need to go home and get lunch started soon. Kids, are you ready?”“But the Master haven't bought any of our treats as yet,” Nola complained. Mrs. Lewis gave her the five-dollar note. “I'm sorry, sweetheart, I'm afraid the master doesn't carry much cash on him either so this is all he could find.” Mrs. Lewis made an excuse for Aiden. She was ashamed to tell them what he really said. “OK,” Nola sighed. She accepted the money. “You know what, Mrs. Lewis? It's all good. I understand,” she beamed. She opened her bag
Aiden saw the two children, who were no older than eight years old, emerging from behind the bushes. “Don't tell me you are lost,” Aiden joked. He figured these must be the cupcake selling duo. But Nathan wasn't sure about him yet. “Do we look lost?” Nathan remarked. “Well technically you are lost because this is my property, and you are obviously trespassing,” Aiden answered. “Well we are not lost. We are friends with Mrs. Lewis,” Nate confessed. “Really! Is that so?” Aiden laughed. He observed the two children. The boy looked as if he didn't want to be there and the girl looked quite shy. She was hiding behind her brother, looking like a pretty plump-cheek doll. “I'm Aiden,” he stretched his hand out to Nate. The boy looked at Aiden's palm and smiled. Finally, a man who was treating him like a man as well. “I'm Nathan and this is my twin sister, Nola,” he shook Aiden's hand. Nathan was surprised when he didn't hear his sister's voice, so he turned to look at her, and she was
"I can't believe I fainted after seeing my child being born," Aiden expressed as he cradled his children in both of his hands. Six hours had passed since Katherine gave birth, and she and both babies were doing well. She was now laying in bed resting, while Aiden sat in a chair holding the sleeping babies. "I can't believe it either," Katherine remarked. "Taryn and Dustin will find this amusing when I tell them." "Dustin isn't gonna let me live it down," Aiden shook his head and smiled. A knock sounded on the door. "You have visitors," Dr. Murray announced as she entered the room. Mr and Mrs. Riley were walking behind her with huge smiles plastered on their faces. "Oh, my sweet pea," Mrs. Riley gushed as she walked over to her daughter. She rubbed her head and then caressed her face. She then turned her attention to Aiden and the babies. "They are beautiful," she cooed. "Shhh, you don't wanna wake them," Aiden whispered. "They are so adorable. I could just eat them up," Mrs. R
The drive over to the hospital was agonizing for both Katherine and Aiden. It felt like they had been driving for hours, even though it was approximately a fifteen minute drive. When they got to the facility, they were taken to a private room that was reserved for Katherine. Doctor Murray was already there and waiting since Aiden had called her earlier. Once they had gotten their room, Dr. Murray made sure Kat was comfortable with what was to come next, even though this was her second time experiencing labour. "Now that you're all set up, we have to check how dilated you are," Dr. Murray said to Katherine, who was wincing in pain. "The contractions are a bit far apart, but they still hurt like hell," Katherine stated as she adjusted herself on the bed. Aiden was right by her side, holding her hand every step of the way. He watched as the doctor began to probe Katherine. They both noticed how Dr. Murray's eyebrows were raised in curiosity and Aiden got a bit worried. "Is everyth
Katherine stood beside her best friend, admiring her in the mirror. She could tell that she was nervous, but she looked absolutely beautiful in her wedding dress. "Just breathe, Tar," Kat encouraged her. "I am breathing, but I think this dress is too tight. It's cutting off my circulation," Taryn fussed."Are you sure?" Katherine asked as she began to gently tug on the back of the dress. "Maybe I should've chosen a different dress." "Nonsense, this dress was made for you, literally." Taryn's dress was a silk satin fit and flare that hugged her body from her chest to her hips, then flared from her mid-thigh, creating a sexy yet sophisticated look. "I think I'm gonna be sick," she gave out as she scrambled towards the bathroom. Katherine followed behind her and found her knelt over the toilet. "Listen, I'm way too big to be walking this fast," Katherine breathed as she caught her breath. "Sorry," Taryn managed to say before hurling again. "Let it out, sweetie, let it all out,"
Dustin had been waiting for a big break in his career. For the past couple of months, he had been investigating a case that meant a lot to him. A long while back, he got information about a suspected pedophile and since then he had been obsessed with solving the case. The man's name was Donny Perez, but the evidence wasn't much, so he needed something to stick the nail in Donny's coffin. "Everyone, please stay in position," Dustin ordered over the police radios. He was parked in a neighborhood across the street from a lemonade stand. The chief got his nineteen-year-old niece Sarah to work undercover. She was posing as a vendor selling lemonade to help out an animal shelter. Even though Sarah was nineteen, she was really little because she has a trait of dwarfism. She was well-equipped to do the task, and they had police posted all over the neighborhood. Dustin and his partner watched as a few persons came up and purchased their refreshing cups of lemonade. He checked his watch, and
Aiden was at the office when he got a call from Grandma Debs, asking if he could meet up with her. He was curious as to what she needed, so he agreed to meet up at Katherine's Café. Aiden and Grandma Debs have developed a good relationship because Grandma Debs knew that it wasn't Aiden's fault the way things went down with Violet, and since they were going to be a part of each other's lives, it made sense that they remained cordial. On his lunch break, he went over to the Café and found Katherine in her office because she refused to stay home. If Aiden was being completely honest, he loved how beautiful and glowing she was at this stage, and he admired how strong she was. Most women would be at home counting down the days until they gave birth, but Kat refused to stay in bed. As long as she wasn't overworking, Dr. Murray said it was quite fine for her to do some light work. "Hi, my love," Aiden greeted as he entered the office and walked over to her smiling. "Hey," Kat returned th
A week after the ruling, things were almost back to normal. Katherine spoke to Grandma Debs almost everyday. She also invited her to stay with them for the weekend and for the family Sunday dinner. The kids were like the only close family she had at the moment, and she wanted to maintain a good relationship with them. They had movie night on Saturday and it was fun. It was wonderful to see Grandma Debs, Aiden, and the twins getting along so well. The next day, Taryn and Dustin also came over to join the traditional Sunday dinner. Mrs. Lewis, Grandma Debs and Taryn were busy in the kitchen, while Katherine rested upstairs. She felt out of place not being involved, but she knew that at her stage of pregnancy, she needed to take things slowly. The twins were preoccupied helping Aiden and Dustin to set the table and get things in place. Katherine woke up and made an attempt to go downstairs to help, but she was shocked when the twins intercepted her and brought her back to her room.
The trial began a week later, and it didn't take long for the judge and juror to decide the fate of Violet. With all the evidence, it was clear that she was guilty. The only decision that needed to be made was her punishment."Your honour, the evidence presented in this case is damning and inexcusable," the lawyer representing Nate and his family stated. "Though the evidence is there, we see no reason why the book should be thrown at my client being that she's not a repeat offender," Violet's lawyer presented. "Not a repeat offender? If I may point out, she was being investigated for embezzlement and fraud. And if I recall, she fled the country before an arrest could have been made.""That's hearsay, your honour.”"Would I have brought this up if it was only hearsay?" The lawyer pulled out a few documents from a pile that was in front of him. He them gestured to the officer to bring it to the judge. "This doesn't look good, Mr. Ryan," the judge said to Violet's lawyer after reviewi
After Aiden informed Katherine about the trial date, they both decided that they would have a sit down with Nate over the weekend and tell him about what was happening. After Katherine finished work that Saturday evening, they all sat down in the living room to have a discussion. "What did you guys do today?" Katherine asked Nate and Nola, who were sitting on both ends of the large couch in the room and were engrossed in their tablets. "I helped Ms Lewis in the garden. We will have lots of potatoes and strawberries by the end of the month," Nola said as she placed the tablet beside her. "That's great Nola. I can make some strawberry tarts when they are ready.""I played on my tablet most of the day," Nate answered without taking his eyes off the screen of the device. "Nate, can you please put the tablet aside," Aiden requested. "We have something important we want to discuss." "Okay," Nate said as he tucked the tablet in the corner beside him. "Thank you," Aiden said."Alright,
Two Months Later. Things were a lot better for Katherine and her family. She was now seven months pregnant and couldn't wait to give birth. She had to take a break from doing too much work, so she mostly worked in the office of the Café. The twins were back to their old routine, especially Nate. He still visits Dr. Coleman once a week for one-on-one sessions, and exceptional progress have been made. He had a few more visits until the sessions would be over all together.Since the one-on-one sessions had been happening, they would bring Nate to the doctor, and wait in the lounge area until the sessions were done. Katherine and Aiden took turns in bringing Nate to his sessions depending on how busy they were. If they were both free on a specific day, they would all go togetherAiden picked up Nate from school while Kat was busy at work. Nola wanted Nate to stay and watch her practice, but Aiden promised her he would come back for her after her swimming lessons were done.He drove Nate
