Katherine was furious when she got back to her café. How could someone be so arrogant and disrespectful? She felt bad when he disrespected her business, but when he spoke about her husband, not knowing her or anything about her life, that was the last straw. She didn't care about his review, she just wanted to get a little revenge for what he said and especially for splashing her with his car. With that attitude, he might as well have been the one who was driving.

A slight smile played on her lips as she remembered the joy she felt when she doused him with the cappuccino. He was so enraged and flustered and that was very satisfying for her. She made a mental note that she would call Taryn and tell her about her encounter with the customer from hell.

She announced her presence to Lexie, who informed her that her children were in the lounge waiting for her. She went to see what they were up to and found them both sitting on the couch with matching textbooks and pencils in hand.

  • THE HUSBAND TRAP   9: Anybody Home?

The twins were growing tired. The sun was out and getting warmer as the minutes passed by. “I'm thirsty,” Nate complained as he stopped to catch his breath, resting his hands on his hips as he exhaled. “Just a few more houses and I promise we'll find him,” Nola sighed. She was also sweating and breathing heavily, but her plan was in motion, and she felt that she was close to finding a husband for her mother. Miss Polly was parched, she promised herself that this would be the last time she did anything like this. Her bones just were too old for such strenuous activities anymore, plus the children were being odd when they knocked on doors where a gentleman would answer. She removed the bag pack on her back that she had most of the baked goods in, plus she had some water and juice packed in there for the kids. She plucked a bottled water from the bag. “Here you go, Nathan,” she handed the boy the bottle.“Thanks, Miss Polly.” Nathan finished the bottle in two go, he had to pause to ca

Nola just stood there, staring at the massive building. For some reason, she thought the top reached the clouds. She was standing at the front door long enough for her brother to catch up to her. “You know we're grounded, don't you,” he said, tired. His sister turned to him and saw him bending forward with his hand on his knees and gasping for air. “Well, it will be worth it because mom's new husband is in this house right now.” She spoke while keeping her eyes on the massive doors. This house was even bigger than Grandma Deborah’s. “And how'd you know that?” Nate questioned. He thought his sister was weird sometimes. “I don’t know, Nate. A woman just knows these things sometimes,” Nola let out. “Whatever, let's just get this over with and done,” Nathan rolled his eyes. “There's a problem,”“What is it now?” Nola pointed to the doorbell that was much too high for them to reach. “Amateur,” Nate rolled his eyes as he folded his fist and used his knuckles to knock on the door. • THE HUSBAND TRAP   11: We Come In Peace

Mrs. Lewis went back inside to speak to the children. She saw Miss Polly sitting beside them.“Ah, you must be Miss Polly, the children's chaperone,” Mrs. Lewis shook the lady's hand. “I'm Mrs. Lewis.”“Lovely meeting you, Mrs. Lewis,” she smiled as her eyes roamed around the room. “I hope the twins weren't any trouble.” “Nonsense, they are little angels,” Mrs. Lewis grinned. “Then you really don't know the twins, Mrs. Lewis,” Miss Polly giggled. “It is getting late, and I need to go home and get lunch started soon. Kids, are you ready?”“But the Master haven't bought any of our treats as yet,” Nola complained. Mrs. Lewis gave her the five-dollar note. “I'm sorry, sweetheart, I'm afraid the master doesn't carry much cash on him either so this is all he could find.” Mrs. Lewis made an excuse for Aiden. She was ashamed to tell them what he really said. “OK,” Nola sighed. She accepted the money. “You know what, Mrs. Lewis? It's all good. I understand,” she beamed. She opened her bag

  • THE HUSBAND TRAP   12: Riddle

Aiden saw the two children, who were no older than eight years old, emerging from behind the bushes. “Don't tell me you are lost,” Aiden joked. He figured these must be the cupcake selling duo. But Nathan wasn't sure about him yet. “Do we look lost?” Nathan remarked. “Well technically you are lost because this is my property, and you are obviously trespassing,” Aiden answered. “Well we are not lost. We are friends with Mrs. Lewis,” Nate confessed. “Really! Is that so?” Aiden laughed. He observed the two children. The boy looked as if he didn't want to be there and the girl looked quite shy. She was hiding behind her brother, looking like a pretty plump-cheek doll. “I'm Aiden,” he stretched his hand out to Nate. The boy looked at Aiden's palm and smiled. Finally, a man who was treating him like a man as well. “I'm Nathan and this is my twin sister, Nola,” he shook Aiden's hand. Nathan was surprised when he didn't hear his sister's voice, so he turned to look at her, and she was

  • THE HUSBAND TRAP   13: Not Meant To Be

The next morning, Katherine still couldn't believe that the children made almost fifteen hundred dollars. She checked it over and over in her head. She made them 240 strawberry-filled cupcakes and 240 lemon squares. That's a total of 480 cupcakes, so if they had sold them at $20 per dozen, they should have made $800, not $1480. “Tell me again how you two made so much money?” Katherine asked while she sipped on her camomile tea. “Mom, we already told you, we're business people, and we know how to make deals,” Nathan beamed. “Don't worry, Katherine. The children sold them fair and square. We met a nice man who bought the remaining cupcakes for twice their value,” Miss Polly added as she placed a plate of scrambled eggs and toast in front of Katherine. “Yeah Mom, don't worry, we didn't steal it if that's what you're thinking.” Nola grinned. “Oh honey, I would never think that of you,” Katherine sighed. She was still on edge about the impending bad review from her disgruntled cus

  • THE HUSBAND TRAP   14: Drop-Dead Gorgeous

It was a quiet day at the Café. Katherine barely made half of what she normally made today. She wondered what could cause such a slow business day, but then she saw a flyer on her desk. The mayor was having a conference on the other side of the town, and the whole town was there. Katherine sat in her office and decided to call Taryn. “Hey girl, how's it going?” Taryn answered. “Not bad even though things are slow today because the Mayor's in town holding a conference.” “I see. So, how are the kids?” Taryn asked. “They're fine. They are at school right now,” Kat replied. “So how's Liam? Is he coming to work on time?” “Yes, your brother is an awesome partner. Although he gets distracted by the ladies way too often,” Taryn chuckled. “Oh by the way, how was brunch the other day? Did Nate get on the baseball team?” “No,” Kat sighed. “What? But Nate is so good.” Taryn confessed. “I meant no as in, brunch never happened. The guy flaked. He phoned the restaurant and told t

  • THE HUSBAND TRAP   15: The Town Fair

Katherine and the twins arrived at the fair around 3:00 in the afternoon. The place was beautifully decorated and had different rides and attractions. Vendors and patrons crowded the venue, and sounds of laughter and excitement filled the air. "I can't wait to go on the rollercoaster," Nola clapped with glee. She and Nate had never been on one before, and they were eager to try it out today. Nola's eyes lit up, and her smile broadened as she saw the ride dipped and rolled in the air. She couldn't wait to experience the happiness that the ride must bring. “I'm excited to try that slingshot ride over there,” Nathan stated as he pointed in the direction of the ride, where people were screaming with their hands either in the air or over their faces. Katherine couldn't tell if they were screams of joy or screams of pain. She gulped when she saw the ride shoot out like a slingshot and the people were thrown about like rag dolls. “That ride looks pretty scary, don't you think, Nate?” Kath

  • THE HUSBAND TRAP   Epilogue

"Nathan, could you please pass me the peas?" Katherine asked as she laughed at something Nola said. "Here you go, mom," Nate said as he handed her the bowl with the peas. "So Nate, are you excited to start playing for one of the best college baseball teams in the entire US?" Dustin asked. "You know it, Uncle Dusty," Nate grinned as he chewed on his food. "We are so proud of you," Mrs. Riley announced as she cut into her baked chicken. "Thanks grandma," Nate nodded. "And your grandpa is proud of you too," Mr. Riley chimed in. "And don't forget grandma Debs, she's proud of you too.""Yes I am," Deborah answered as she wiped Kaden's cheeks with the napkin. Adeline laughed because she knew her brother didn't like being smothered. Deborah had been spending lots of time in the Windsor mansion ever since Violet took her life five years ago. When she realized Aiden was never coming back for her, something in her snapped and she just couldn't take it anymore. It was a sad time for Mrs. O

  • THE HUSBAND TRAP   95: Ten Years Later

TEN YEARS LATER Chaos was brewing in the Windsor mansion as an eighteen-year-old Nola struggled to style her hair. She tried tirelessly to get the curls just right, but her hair wasn't having it today. "Dammit!" she snapped, throwing the curling iron down on the floor. "I'm gonna tell mom and dad that you said a bad word." Nola turned on her chair and saw her little sister, Adeline, trying on one of her bras. "Addy, how many times have I asked you to stay outta my stuff?" Nola rolled her eyes. "Please put it down." Addy pouted and placed the bra back on the bed. "Nola, do you have to go away to college?" Nola's heart melted. "Hey, come here," she stretched her hands out for her little sister to come to her. The shiny, dark-haired little girl ran into the strawberry blonde-haired young woman's arms. "Come on, climb on my lap," Nola giggled as she helped her sister onto her lap. "I don't want you to be sad. I promise I will be back for summers, Christmases, and family holid

  • THE HUSBAND TRAP   94: Nile’s Grave

The drive to the cemetery where Nile was buried was about an hour and a half from Aiden's and Katherine's home. Katherine thought it was a better idea if her mom and Mrs. Lewis came with them so that they could watch the babies while they visited Nile's graveside. Mrs. Riley and Mrs. Lewis hung back while Katherine, Aiden, Nola and Nathan made their way to the graveside. Even though it was many years ago, Katherine still remembered where Nile was laid to rest. His black and white headstone stood out from the rest, since it was made to look like a praying angel with a golden halo on top of its head. She remembered that there was also a small oak tree close to the grave, which was now a towering beauty. "There it is," Katherine motioned, directing Nola and Nathan who were walking closely beside them. Nathan had his backpack with him and Nola had her little trinkets, while Katherine carried a small purse that held hers. "It's so beautiful," Nola remarked as they got closer to the gra

Aiden adjusted his position on the bed, took in a deep breath as he prepared to tell Kat everything. His heart thumped at an increased rate due to the fact that his nerves were getting the better of him. He was both anxious and nervous not knowing how Katherine would take the information he was about to lie on her. "Remember I told you about the accident I was in years ago?" He began. "Yes, I do, the one that gave you the scar." "It gave me more than just a scar," he began. "That accident changed my life in so many ways. It made me realized that life is short and that in the blink of an eye things can change for the worst.""Everything happens for a reason, my love." "I believe so too. Fate has a way of proving that," he stated as he took her hands into his."I believe so too." • THE HUSBAND TRAP   92: You’re Pregnant?

A week had passed since Katherine and her babies were released from the hospital. She felt overwhelmed on most days, but she was grateful for having her husband, her parents, and Mrs. Lewis by her side. Miss Polly had moved back home to Scotland to be with her sick mother, but she sent her best wishes. Taryn and Dustin were still on their honeymoon, but they couldn't wait to come home and meet the babies. They wanted to cut their trip short, but Katherine insisted that they stayed and enjoyed their getaway. Mr. and Mrs. Riley were at the Café overseeing things. Mrs. Lewis was upstairs checking on the babies, while Aiden and Katherine enjoyed a nice quiet lunch in the dining room. "They are fast asleep, and they are the cutest little beings I've ever seen. I realize that Kaden is trying to take the mittens off his hands," Mrs. Lewis stated as she entered the dining room."He wants to suck on his fingers like I used to do when I was small," Aiden explained. "And Adeline sleeps with

"I can't believe I fainted after seeing my child being born," Aiden expressed as he cradled his children in both of his hands. Six hours had passed since Katherine gave birth, and she and both babies were doing well. She was now laying in bed resting, while Aiden sat in a chair holding the sleeping babies. "I can't believe it either," Katherine remarked. "Taryn and Dustin will find this amusing when I tell them." "Dustin isn't gonna let me live it down," Aiden shook his head and smiled. A knock sounded on the door. "You have visitors," Dr. Murray announced as she entered the room. Mr and Mrs. Riley were walking behind her with huge smiles plastered on their faces. "Oh, my sweet pea," Mrs. Riley gushed as she walked over to her daughter. She rubbed her head and then caressed her face. She then turned her attention to Aiden and the babies. "They are beautiful," she cooed. "Shhh, you don't wanna wake them," Aiden whispered. "They are so adorable. I could just eat them up," Mrs. R

  • THE HUSBAND TRAP   90: The Delivery

The drive over to the hospital was agonizing for both Katherine and Aiden. It felt like they had been driving for hours, even though it was approximately a fifteen minute drive. When they got to the facility, they were taken to a private room that was reserved for Katherine. Doctor Murray was already there and waiting since Aiden had called her earlier. Once they had gotten their room, Dr. Murray made sure Kat was comfortable with what was to come next, even though this was her second time experiencing labour. "Now that you're all set up, we have to check how dilated you are," Dr. Murray said to Katherine, who was wincing in pain. "The contractions are a bit far apart, but they still hurt like hell," Katherine stated as she adjusted herself on the bed. Aiden was right by her side, holding her hand every step of the way. He watched as the doctor began to probe Katherine. They both noticed how Dr. Murray's eyebrows were raised in curiosity and Aiden got a bit worried. "Is everyth

Katherine stood beside her best friend, admiring her in the mirror. She could tell that she was nervous, but she looked absolutely beautiful in her wedding dress. "Just breathe, Tar," Kat encouraged her. "I am breathing, but I think this dress is too tight. It's cutting off my circulation," Taryn fussed."Are you sure?" Katherine asked as she began to gently tug on the back of the dress. "Maybe I should've chosen a different dress." "Nonsense, this dress was made for you, literally." Taryn's dress was a silk satin fit and flare that hugged her body from her chest to her hips, then flared from her mid-thigh, creating a sexy yet sophisticated look. "I think I'm gonna be sick," she gave out as she scrambled towards the bathroom. Katherine followed behind her and found her knelt over the toilet. "Listen, I'm way too big to be walking this fast," Katherine breathed as she caught her breath. "Sorry," Taryn managed to say before hurling again. "Let it out, sweetie, let it all out,"

Dustin had been waiting for a big break in his career. For the past couple of months, he had been investigating a case that meant a lot to him. A long while back, he got information about a suspected pedophile and since then he had been obsessed with solving the case. The man's name was Donny Perez, but the evidence wasn't much, so he needed something to stick the nail in Donny's coffin.
