It was already noon and we had not made any progress in finding Joan. We also lost track of the wolf's scent somehow. The day was obviously doomed and we were stuck. Alpha Gerald firmly believed that black magic was involved in this and I honestly didn't have a reason to disagree because one minute we had a lead and the next thing we knew,we were clueless.

I was mostly quiet throughout the day and only gave one-word replies or said nothing at all when I was being spoken to and I could tell it was driving Alpha Gerald nuts because of how grim his face was and I wished I could snap out of this horrible mood too but I just could not.

When it got towards evening I was fed up with the whole thing. It was annoying feeling powerless like this and I hated the feeling so much. I turned to Alpha Gerald and say
