SARAH FINALLY FOUND the campervan after several hours of driving around the outskirts of the city. The campervan looked abandoned but she could tell someone had been there recently. She tried getting access into the campervan but it was locked. She paused, placed her hands on the door of the campervan, closed her eyes and in few seconds, she transitted. She saw herself inside the campervan in the midst of two men. One was peering into a map on the wall, the other was kneeling. She recognized Ian as the robber kneeling, but, didn't recognize the bearded man. She moved to the fridge in the campervan and saw an unfinished beer. She came back to reality. There was no clue pointing out the robber's whereabouts from what she saw. She immediately felt breaking into the campervan was the best option. She couldn't wait for the man to come around. He could have probably left, ditching the campervan since the robbery was successful. She thought.
After forcefully breaking in, she examined the inner parts of the campervan. There was nothing much in there, just a fridge, a chair and a bed. But there was a map fixed to a part of the campervan surrounded by pictures. She figured where the bearded man had been standing in her transition and where the robber was kneeling. She walked over to the fridge to see if she could find a clue or something she could feel to transit her to where the robber was currently, she found nothing. As she was about going out, her hands came in contact with something on the wall. It was strong and stiff. Something wooden. She realized the walls of the campervan was rugged but there was something beneath this part of the campervan close to the exit door. She tore the rug off the walls of the campervan with the help of a pen knife which was always in her back pocket. She lived in the suburbans of the city and it was quite rough there. She never left the confines of her home without a pepper spray or a pen knife in her back pocket. After tearing off the rug, a briefcase dropped. She rummaged through the briefcase and found some documents. Most of them containing the name of the robber probably; Ian Connors. A picture was laying at the far end of the briefcase. The picture encompassed an image of a man and his wife with their son all smiling. She could tell the man was Ian Connors the robber. She wondered if the man's family was in the city or they were in another city and he went to them after the robbery. She noticed the picture was roughned. Like it got stuck and was pulled out with force. She held the picture and transitted. The road was somewhere she recognized, somewhere she had transitted to before. She looked ahead and saw a tumbled car, she rushed over to it. There had been a ghastly accident and everyone in the car had lost their lives, including Ian. She saw him in the vehicle, occupying the driver's seat, his wife next to him and their son at the backseat of the severally damaged vehicle. She checked their pulse and realized they were all dead. The road was so empty and she wondered why. If Ian died, who was the robber? She couldn't tell exactly if the man in the vehicle was Ian, but he sure looked like the robber, just a little difference in stature. She heard ambulance sirens which startled her, she came back to reality."This is the third robbery guys, I'm done". Evan blurted out has he slammed the money filled bag on the table."Evan, we don't need all this. Can't you see we make a good team ? With those abilities of yours, we would be unstoppable together"."Thanks, but can we just share the money? we can talk about this later"."No! No way we are talking about this later! Listen to me and listen good, you are not leaving anytime soon". Rick said affirmatively, corking his gun."But, it's pretty much my choice though, don't see any reason why you have to be aggressive about it"."Ooh, so i'm being aggressive now?". Rick said more calmly while pointing his gun at Evan.Randy who had been quiet watching the drama unfold finally interfered. "Put the gun away Rick, and you, Evan, you shouldn't speak to him like that, you should listen to....""Oh please! Don't give me that. I'm tired of everyone telling me what to do and not listening to me!". Evan interrupted defiantly."Oh, you think you can speak to us however you want because you've got a little speed? Let's see how fast you are then". Randy yelled and reached for the pistol in his hip.Everything paused. Evan felt a surge of energy as everything came to a halt. The type of energy that occured when Evan wanted to make a move. Rick was right in front of him, pointing a gun at him and Randy was reaching for the pistol at his hip with his eyes widened in anger."The twin brothers really underestimated me". He sighed, grabbed the bag on the table before them and zoomed out of the building before Rick could pull the trigger and before Randy could reach for his pistol."Shit! Let's go after him, let's take the car". Rick urged Randy as he stepped out of the building. Before he could completely step out of the building, Randy grabbed him by the arm."It's useless, he would have been long gone, no way we can find him"."Damn it!". Rick yelled as he realized his brother had said the truth. It was of no use trying to chase the boy. He was too fast, no way they could get to him."Do you think Henry hears everything we say and think?". Ian asked moving closer to Michael, hoping Henry who was walking briskly ahead of them wouldn't hear even though he knew he could hear everything"."Yes, he does but he doesn't pry. Most of the time, he chooses not to listen. He doesn't actually hear anyone's statements or thoughts except he chooses to and Henry doesn't pry"."That's good! Do you think he is listening to us now?". He asked again."No, absolutely not. He is trying to find the speedster, it requires a lot of concentration,he isn't listening to anything we are saying now"."Do you know his reason for bringing us all together? like his long time goal or something like that". Henry asked again inaudibly.Michael stopped walking and turned to face Ian. "He hasn't told you yet?". He expressed a little bit of shock."Well,yeah. He hasn't".Michael continued walking. The startled look on his face had worn off. "He will let you know soon enough, you just have to be patient".Michael and Ian had gotten along pretty well. They had been talking throughout the journey and Ian had learnt a lot about Michael's background and some of the things Henry stood for. Michael had been with Henry for two years, ever since he discovered his ability to pass through anything. At first, he had been so frustrated when he couldn't control his abilities even though they seemed fun initially. If he tried grabbing something he needed, his hand just passed through it. It became more often and annoying as days passed by. Barely a week after he had his abilities and was going to have a drink at the bar that night, Henry showed up as he was struggling to grab the door knob. Since then, they had always been together and Henry cared so much about him. He was an orphan. He escaped the orphanage home when he was fourteen hitting the streets of London doing menial jobs until he was able to fix himself up a bit. At the time he discovered his powers, he was owing lots of debts which Henry took care of. After six months and few days, Henry flew him to the United States, offering him a better life."The boy is close by, I can feel it". Henry came to a sudden halt. Ian and Michael halted too.Evan scurried through the empty streets in the dark. He wasn't seeing clearly but he was sure he could find his way around even if he was blindfolded. He turned into an alley but turned back quickly when he saw a silhouette figure. In minutes, he had zoomed into his house. He couldn't risk being confronted by anyone. As he switched on the neon lights, he was startled to see a man standing right in front him."How did you get in here?". He asked visibly shaken as he wondered how the man had gotten in without causing any damage to the only door to his house."Well, it's not much of a big deal, I'm someone just like you. I can pass through anything and walk into anything. So I just walked in". Michael replied gesturing with his hands."Okay, did Randy send you?". Evan asked raising his voice lightly."I don't know who Randy is but I sure know people like us are special and deserve better than just being robbers".Fear gripped Evan when he heard Michael say "robbers". How did he know he was a robber?"My name is Michael by the way". Michael added stretching out his hand.Evan looked at his hands like they were soiled in dirt and looked back at him. Fear and distrust in his eyes."Okay, Evan, I know you are scared and you are prob.....""How do you know so much about me? We've not even met before." Evan interrupted as he heard the stranger say his name."You can't keep hiding yourself and your abilities forever and using them for petty things. We are meant to be gods, to achieve greater things." Michael replied. "We try to stay connected with people like you with extraordinary abilities not knowing the right way to go about it"."That still doesn't explain how you know my name or what I do. Are you......"He was interrupted by a loud aggressive banging on the door."Henry, can you see that?". Ian pointed at the door Michael had passed through almost one hour ago."Those men banging the door are with guns, they might be in danger"."Don't bother about it, the boy will take care of it". Henry replied Ian's fears confidently. He had opted that Michael do the confrontation while he and Ian wait for the results. If it went sideways, they'd intervene. But he could feel that Michael was doing a good job convincing the boy."Evan!". Randy yelled as he banged the door severally. If Evan had not taken the bag of money, they wouldn't have bothered coming to look for him. At first, Randy had told Rick to let it slide until they realized he had taken the bag of money. It made them more furious."We have to get out of here!". Evan pointed to the window behind them."No, we don't have to. What are we running for ?"."Rick and Randy, they are very dangerous"."Do they have extraordinary abilities like you?"."No, they don't. Let's get out of here!"."Then why are you scared? They are supposed to be scared of you. We stay back and you fight".Evan paused. "Okay, what's the plan?"."Plan? You don't need a plan against two ordinary men, just a punch with your speed will take them out". Michael assured him confidently, patting him by the shoulder. The door burst open.Evan felt a surge of energy and moved. He held a fist and threw at the first person he encountered as the door burst open."That looks bad". Ian remarked as he saw one of the man that had been banging on the door hover uncontrollably landing with a heavy thud on the hard floor almost immediately he broke through the door. The second man retaliated by firing several shots into the house.Ian wanted to make a move, Henry held him back. "He will handle it"."What are you going to do? Are you not going to help me?". Evan asked as he ducked several shots from Randy."It's your fight, not mine. This isn't the help I can render you". Michael replied."You look relaxed"."Why should I be bothered? A bullet can't penetrate me, it will just pass through me". Michael replied with a smirk. "Stop hiding and face him".Evan relinquished the cover he had taken with Michael and everything paused. He saw a bullet coming slowly at him, he swerved, doubled his speed and pushed Randy with all the surge of energy in him. Randy also hovered in the air uncontrollably and landed on thrash cans."Yes!, I did it". Evan yelled as he realized his oppositions have both been knocked out."Now, let's get out of here". Michael advised.Evan reached for the bag stacked up with money."What's in there?". Michael asked."Money, lots of it". Evan replied excitedly."Don't think you'd be needing it". He said as they made their way out of the house.JAMIE WAS AWOKEN by a resounding synthesized female voice coming from a speaker located at the edge of the high walls of his room."How come I didn't notice that?". Jamie grumbled as he sat lazily on his bed. He took a quick peep at the table clock beside him and dashed into the bathroom. He didn't hear what the synthesized female voice had said but it woke him anyway. He could find out from Alex later in the day.Just as he came out clean from the bathroom, there was a loud knock on the door."Jamie are you ready?". Alex asked, raising his baritone voice a little bit high.Jamie looked at the table clock before him. It read seven fifty. He was supposed to be awake since six forty-five. "Give me ten minutes". He yelled back.Exactly ten minutes after, Alex was about to knock again as he had not expected Jared to keep to the time he gave, the door swung open."Good morning, Mr Alex". Jamie grinned."There's nothing good about the morning boy,you woke up late"."I couldn't sleep last ni
"HEY GUYS, MEET Jared, the newest extraordinary in our midst". Jamie called for the attention of everyone as he approached them. They all stared at Jamie with a numb expression on their face."Hi! Jared". One of the girl said, grinning widely and waving her left hand."Hi". Jared waved back and put on a smile. In few minutes, they had all crowded him, offering handshakes and hugs. He felt relieved until he noticed a girl among them withdrawn from the crowd that surrounded him."Who is she?". He asked Jamie barely whispering and without taking his eyes off her."Oh, She?". Jamie traced the direction Jared's eyes was pointing to and gulped hard. "Well...uhm, she's Ruby, that's how she is, kind of saucy. Just ignore her." Jamie said and walked away. Jared didn't take his eyes of her until she almost caught him staring at her, he quickly tilted his head and pretended he was looking at something else. He stole one more quick glance at her before he felt someone nudging him from behind."Wh
IT WAS NOT difficult locating the tavern as Sarah could remember Riley's Bar like it was yesterday. It was where she had her first kiss as a teenager, a feeling that still made her knees week. The outer view of the bar had not changed much from the years past. Although, it looked smaller than she could remember, she wondered if the interior of the bar was still the same picture she had in her head from years ago. She kept scanning the bar as she crossed to the other side of the road."Oops, sorry". She let out as she almost bumped into an old lady with a bag of groceries. Just a few more steps, she could tell where the accident involving Ian and his family had occured. She lowered to the ground inspecting the floors as if she could feel something beneath the hard tar floors. She slowly let her palm reach for the surface of the earth. As she came in contact with it, she transitted. But, this time, it came in flashes. She saw a male paramedic checking Ian's pulse and declaring him dead
Almost an hour of silence before Henry muttered. "We are almost there". The chirping of evening birds and the rustling of dried leaves filled the serene environment."Can you hear the lake?". Henry asked turning to face her as she had been lingering behind him all through their journey."Yes, I can". Zoe replied with a smile. Henry's roughly toned voice had intruded her thoughts."It's over there". Henry pointed at the flowing river ahead of them, less than fifty foot away. As they got to the riverbank, Henry stretched out his hands towards Zoe and she placed her palm in his. He mockingly offered her a seat on a large granite rock situated at the riverbank. He sat on the rusty ground beside her and placed his head on her thighs."What do you think about the river?". Henry asked as he lifted his head from her thighs and put a stone he had picked beside him in her right hand. She tossed the stone into the air and it landed into the river with a splash."Beautiful. That's all I can think
A CUP OF warm coffee lifted Sarah's spirits that morning even though she wasn't a fan of caffeine. Her eyes felt heavy and she felt drained, she wondered why. She had a nightmare that had her gasping the moment she woke up. She had seen herself in a forest, stuck to a tree like she was tied to it but there was no visible rope used in holding her back to the tree. She struggled so hard and screamed, but, her body wouldn't just come off the tree. It felt like someone else was in control of her body making sure she couldn't move an inch from the tree. She saw Ian and the bearded man from her transition few days ago approaching her. "You finally found me". Ian had said smirking in her dream before she woke up. The dream felt so real and she didn't know what to think. She couldn't say if it was an ordinary dream or it meant something. At this point, she had no idea what her next step should be. There was no possible way of finding Ian without a clue or something that could transit her to w
"CAN'T BELIEVE ANY human would come here". Sarah grumbled as she kept combing through the forest. She had to park her car outside of the woods as there was no way her car could pass through the gigantic trees. She had been rummaging the forest for almost thirty minutes and had not come across any sign of a single human. Frustration was beginning to eat her insides."Ugh". She grunted as she kicked a tree in frustration. "I should have planned better before coming here". She heaved a sigh after realizing the high probability of being lost."Are you looking for me?". Her attention swept to the trails of the voice that had startled her. Lo and behold! It was Ian.She smiled at first but her smile slowly turned into a facial expression of horror as everything seemed crystal clear to her whilst fragments of her nightmare the night before reappeared. She turned to run but her limbs froze. A struggle to move ensued and she shrilled out of fear "what's happening?!".Someone else was in contro
"CAN YOU HEAR me Jamie?"."Yes I can". Hearing Jamie's voice lissed Jared. He had been constantly attempting to communicate with Jamie telepathically for few minutes from his room, all his efforts proved abortive. He didn't give up as he knew Jamie could hear him but the difficulty was perceiving whatever sound that emanated from Jamie wherever he was. With more concentration, connection and persistence, he was glad he could also hear from Jamie the same way Jamie could hear from him."I just wanted to say I'm sorry, it's all my fault. I tried speaking to her telepathically and I think she freaked out. I'm sorry"."It's alright, I totally understand. But, just be careful next time, Ruby is dangerous". Jared heard Jamie's reply in his head."Is there anything I can do to help?"."No, just stay out of trouble yourself so you don't get cuffed with this metallic wristband and quarantined. Whatever is on my wrist is preventing me from using my abilities"."That's awful. Really sorry about
JUST LIKE THE regular afternoons, Jared was sitting on the couch at the center of the lobby with indistinct chatters filling the area as students kept parading the lobby back and forth in groups to get food. Everything was normal except that Jamie was not sitting with him in the lobby today."Are they not supposed to eat in the dining hall?". He thought out loud as he saw Santiago, Wong, Alessia and Dawn, lined in a semi circle digging their spoons into a cup filled with ice cream and spilling some of it on the floor at one corner of the lobby. It was against the rules to eat in the lobby but it seems like the rules were exceptional to the likes of Santiago, Wong, Jamie, Lily, Alessia and Ruby. They were more than just students. They were highly trained to protect the institution in case of external attacks. Jamie had told him they were called The Guardians. He wondered why the cafeteria and the lounge vending machine was situated at the other side of the building when it could be pl
"AFTER BRINGING THE scrawnies under our control then what next?" Henry asked, intruding his father's privacy even though he had said he wanted to be alone.Virion chuckled as he laid on the bed before speaking."I must say that I am really impressed with you. You've grown to be a very smart, charming young man," he teased."Answer the question," Henry blurted. He was not having it easy with his father. The only reason he had not opposed Virion's plans was because he was his father and furthermore, he wouldn't want to do it in the presence of the rest of his crew. This time around, Virion must let him in and expose all his cards to him if he wanted his support. Henry had his plans also and the only way his father could buy him over is if he let's him know his plans. Why would he decide to hurt thousands of innocent citizens? How was he able to bring Zoe and Evan to the ship with just a spell?!"Then we enter a diplomatic relation with the government. That way, we can—""What's that,"
"ARE YOU SURE you'd make it to work with all of these stuff storming the city," a red haired woman was asking her husband who remained adamant and chose to head to work that morning irrespective of the scrawnies storming the city and it made her worried."Yes daddy, you shouldn't go. They look scary, like monsters," a boy of about ten years old voiced out, suddenly turning from the television he had been watching to chip into the conversation between his dad and mom.Ian adjusted his already knotted tie that seemed to be of discomfort to him at the moment."Come on, it is only happening at one side of the city. I have to get to work," Ian replied both his wife and child before picking up his briefcase. His wife knew there was nothing she could do to change his mind. The only thing she could do was to hope that he came back alive.Ian knew he made the wrong choice by opting to go to work. But, he needed to clear his head and understand somethings. He woke up this morning with his wi
"WHAT! WHAT'S HAPPENING?" Jared said as he jolted awake to his king sized bed in his room. His mother was the first person he beheld as he jumped from his sleep. She was staring in surprise, wondering what kind of dream would have made her son react the way he did from his sleep."What's wrong? Are you okay?" Joanne asked, sitting beside her son on the bed."No, yes..I mean..no," Jared stuttered in confusion trying to understand what happened and how he arrived home."How did I get here?" Jared asked after realizing he had no memory of returning home from the fortress."What do you mean? This is where you have always been, your home," his mother chuckled, hiding her confusion. Deep down inside, she wished she understood what her son was saying."No, no way," Jared said, holding his head with his hands in disappointment. He jumped from his bed to his feet and paced before replying his mother's confused gaze fixed on him."I mean yes, this is my home," Jared quickly said after noticin
SARAH UNCONSCIOUSLY SQUEEZED the masculine hand that was placed on her hand before she woke from her long sleep of recovery. Her involuntary action of gripping Michael's hand was as a result of the nightmare she had. She had no full memory of the dream but she knew she was falling from somewhere very high and was letting out an horrific scream. But, before her body reached the ground to be shattered to pieces, her eyes opened in slits and a blurry figure was standing before her. She shut her eyes and opened them slowly feeling a new surge of energy. The figure before her was no one else than her lover Michael. A faint smile escaped her lips at the sight of him.Michael smiled back and gripped her hand. She had not even realized they were holding hands until Michael squeezed and her eyes moved to the side of the bed where their hands were interlocked."I'm glad you are back," Michael said as their eyes met and with immediate effect they dove into a sensual kiss."I thought I had lost
ALFRED SLAMMED A leathered-back book on the huge table in the laboratory that was surrounded by the guardians except for Jared and Ruby. It was late at night and Jared was nowhere to be found since he decided to try talking Ruby out of leaving the Fortress."Did you guys even take a walk around the ship to see how it looks like? How large it was?" Alfred asked, raising his face from the book on the table to Jamie's face."We couldn't even see the ship but I suppose it was very large. It would have so many rooms and the interior was cool," Jamie replied."Ruby will help us with that. She knows the ship pretty well, it's the same that was brought here to carry out their operation," Jared's voice was heard through out the laboratory and a flurry of wind swept through the room. Everyone in the lab threw their face to the exit door of the laboratory to see who owned the voice.Jared was seen walking into the laboratory briskly while Ruby ordinarily lingered behind him."Jared!" Jamie sho
"WHAT MAKES YOU think those kids are not coming or making a plan," Michael asked. He had been engaging in a conversation with Henry since forever and it was reasonable so far."They won't," Henry replied, shutting his eyes and tilting his head to the back slightly to lean on the cushion sofa in his room."They would use today and tomorrow to come up with a executable plan, we move tomorrow morning. Just because I was disconnected for few minutes doesn't mean I'm no longer in control. Or don't you trust me?""I do," Michael replied. After thinking for few minutes and observing the silence, he started."How do you plan on getting Zoe and Evan out. Probably, capture Ruby again?" He asked.Henry smirked before replying."After bringing Virion back to life, things are going to change Michael," Henry was looking directly into Michael's eyes.Michael found his voice, few seconds after pondering on the statement."What do you mean things are going to change," he asked, confusion was evident
"ARE WE SURE we are in the right forest?" Jamie asked as they had been ruminating the forest for more than an hour now."Yes, we are. I can feel it but it's like the ship is not visible. Like it's abstract," Jared replied."We'd find it, don't bother," Jamie encouraged."Wait, something is wrong. I can feel it." Jared suddenly paused."In what way was the fortress protected? The ship is here, we just can't see it. Let's see if we can feel it." Jared shut his eyes for few seconds then opened them again before moving, taking calculated steps. After few seconds of walking, he stretched out his hands and he felt something. He traced it further with his palms and realized it could be the ship they were looking for."I found it already," Jared said softly."Are you sure," Jamie asked unsure of what he felt but he kept a smiling face anyways as he approached Jared."You don't necessarily have to come to where I am. You can stand at the other side and feel it," Jared said and his friend und
THE RAYS OF blue light that emanated from the large metal halo scared Sarah who was laying on a stretcher in front of it. She flinched on the soft foam she was on."Are you done?" She asked turning her head upwards, uncomfortably so she could know what was going on behind her back. She stared at the blue lights that radiated the halo and the wires connected to it. The connection wasn't something deep. The wires were directly placed on the halo as it radiated with energy light rays in it's large round center. And the wires were connected to her head directly as a passage to her brain. It just stood there on several parts of her head. The light blue spread laid on the stretcher was complementing her light blue round-neck shirt.Without looking up, Henry replied. He was squatting in front of the halo and was placing the wires on it.The energy rays that radiated the halo in blue looked magnificent and the most beautiful sight to behold. The next thing on his mind was to get the spell bo
RUBY'S HEART WAS pounding with every step she took but she was determined to make it out of the ship. All the time she had spent there, she had felt nothing but worry and regret. She wondered if she had been charmed by Henry. The only thing she cared about at the moment was getting back to the guardians, especially Jared. It was in the early hours of the morning and the sun was not up yet. As she sneaked out of the ship, the rush of cold wind that hit her gave her goosebumps immediately. She shivered a little before picking to her heels. The early morning sun was unforgiving as the intensity of the heat increased. Ruby wiped the beads of sweat off her face as she ran. The temperature of the sun was not in her favor at all. Nevertheless, she held her pace. There was no way she could have guessed that the ship was located in the open forest, one she was familiar with. The same forest outside of the city she had met Alex.Everyone else was given the freewill to leave the ship except fo
