"DO YOU THINK we made the right choice?" Joanne asked her husband Bennie who didn't look bothered about their son leaving under their care as she made her way to the bed to join him in her light pink lingerie. "Bennie". She called out facing her already dozing husband who felt exhausted from driving almost all day.
"I think he will do just fine". Bennie groaned without opening his already tired eyes. Joanne wasn't satisfied with the answer she got."You know, he has never been on his own before, without me and there are so many strange kids....""Trust me, he will be fine. Did you see the excitement in his eyes when he saw that kid with wings? I've never seen him look like that. He will have a sense of belonging and most importantly, he will be able to control those constant noises that pose as a problem for him. You don't have to worry, we made the right choice for him. Come over here". Bennie replied stretching out his hands for her to curl in with his eyes half opened."Did you see how the woman looked when we told her what Jared was going through? like she was scared"."The woman, Mrs Bradley?". There's nothing to worry about, you are just overthinking things, sleep it off, you will realize we made the right choice soon. You are just missing him."Joanne was still not satisfied with all the assurance Bennie made. Apart from feeling that the kids in the fortress didn't seem pleasant to her, the owner of the institution also seemed scared when they tried explaining the situation Jared was in. She could swear that she saw the fear in her eyes, she was visibly shaken. When Jared had first opened up to her about the disturbing noises, she didn't know how to approach it.Jared used to be a sweet kid until his father died and she got married to Bennie. He became cold and kept mostly to himself, he hardly spoke. Hearing him speak about something must have really meant he was going through a lot at the moment. Jared wasn't the type of teenager that opened up to people about his pain or anything at all.She had taken him to the hospital but there was no reasonable explanation after several tests but still, drugs were administered to him and therapy was also advised. None of them worked. She was beginning to get mad at herself and frustrated for not being able to help her son this one time he was opening up and asking for help until Bennie spoke to her about the fortress. At first, she doubted that something like that existed but Bennie went ahead to prove that it was real and safe after revealing so many positive search results virtually. It took Bennie a week and few days to convince her that an institution for people like Jared really existed and another one week for her to think about it and come to the conclusion that Bennie was probably right about the institution and it could help Jared. Another three days before she found the guts to talk to Jared about it. Just as expected, Jared accepted. She was used to Jared silently obeying her and heeding to her advice even if it made him uncomfortable. He never argued with her, he never disagreed, he just does and agree with whatever she says. At this point, with everything Jared was going through, she felt more than fear. She felt what Jared was going through at the moment will either bring him closer to her or take him farther from her. And with him being far away from her, she felt restless and scared that he would get used to life without her and keep his distance. After numerous thoughts, she drifted to sleep."Four a.m. you've been driving all night". Ian said facing Henry looking terrific. "When are we going to get rest?". He added impatiently."Relax, we are almost there". Henry replied patiently with his hands on the steering wheel, without taking his eyes off the road.Ian didn't know why he had agreed to join this roughly bearded man's team. He didn't trust him and he didn't know him either but hours ago, the man could have killed him in just a snap of a finger. He thought he was powerful but this man simply overpowered him without even raising a fist. He wanted to try pushing the man out of the car and take over the steering wheel but he was scared that before he made a move, the man would kill him. So many thoughts and ideas ran through his head but he couldn't execute them as a result of fear.At the beginning of their journey, when he first thought about pushing the man out of the car, Henry looked at him and asked "Are you trying to kill me?"He was startled and definitely sure he could read minds. "No, no...of course not". He had stuttered.Since then, he had tried controlling his thoughts but he couldn't. So many ideas to kill Henry ran through his mind. He was sure Henry could see them but he still didn't seem bothered. He could probably sense the fear that gripped him and prevented him from carrying out his terrific ideas. Now, he was stuck with a brain stunner who could read minds. He felt so terrible. The car suddenly came to a halt."Get down!". Henry yelled at Ian as he alighted from the vehicle. As Ian came out of the vehicle, it went out of sight."Whoa! Did you make your car disappear?" Ian asked in awe."Nah, it's still there, it's not just visible. It's nutech". Henry replied punching his watch slightly with his index finger. What seemed to be like a flying building shot up suddenly."Jesus fucking Christ!". Ian yelled. "Is this a nutech house?""Nah, it's more or less like a spaceship or let's just say a flying campervan. But it's still nutech, it's not just a house". Henry replied with a smirk."Words can't explain how amazed I am right now". Ian continued talking as he walked into the ship, following Henry behind."Ghost mode!". Henry yelled as he entered the ship.Ian turned round to check the effect of what Henry had said. He was gripped with fear as he thought it was a word meant to destabilize him or kill him. And just as if Henry read the tension in his mind, he replied his thought as he clicked a red button to reveal a door that opened automatically as they approached it."Relax, it's just me telling the ship to go invincible"."Ooh, the ship listens to humans too, like it has ears?"."Don't be dumb, it's regular technology and it doesn't listen to humans, it listens to me".As the door opened, it revealed an enclosed space with two people in it.A lady putting on glasses that kept punching the keyboard of a computer without paying attention to the whirring sound of the opening door and the presence of Henry and Ian. Another man was standing behind her. He reacted to the presence of both Henry and Ian by reaching for something in his hip Ian couldn't get a proper glimpse of but relaxed when he saw the person coming in was just Henry accompanied by someone else."Who is he?". The man asked."Someone we need. His name is Ian. Ian this is Michael"."Ooh, welcome". Michael said stretching out his hand to Ian.Ian quietly shook his hand. He looked at Henry and looked back at Michael. Their hair gave them a striking resemblance as Michael's hair also hung down his back and he looked actually like Henry except that he looked younger with no beards."Umm, you've got a very tight grip". Michael intruded Ian's thought with a shaky voice and a fake smile."Ooh, I'm really sorry about that". Ian apologized as he realized he had been gripping his hand for a long time while he was lost in his thoughts of comparison."So you don't recognize him?". Ian asked Michael resting his hand on his shoulder."No, I don't think so. He doesn't look familiar except that...... Oh! He is the man from the news". Michael yelled with excitement after properly scanning Ian."Hey man, you are doing great! Totally loved how you sent that police car spinning with just a kick. I was watching the news fam, you were amazing".As Michael spoke, Henry realized he was a British and wondered the trouble Henry must have gone through finding him. It must really be worth it, he thought it."Thank you". He replied Michael with a smirk."Hey! Henry. Didn't realize you were here already". A lady's voice captured their attention.Ian turned to face the woman who was walking up to Henry ignoring the rest of them in the room."If security was breached, you wouldn't know?". Henry asked, smiling at her."The ship recognizes you". She replied smiling back in a low seductive tone.Ian looked from one face to another, he could feel the chemistry between them. The woman looked beautiful than he had expected and at the same time looked Asian.Ian coughed."Ooh, Zoe,that's Ian. Ian this is Zoe.Henry quickly gave a proper introduction realizing he had drifted off for a moment."Nice to meet you Zoe". Ian took her hand, consciously handling it softly. She smiled and bowed her head a little without saying a word. She turned suddenly to Ian."I found something that would interest you"."Okay, I'm all ears". Ian followed her behind as she made her way back to the seat stationed in front of the computer system."I've been going through every security footage and Surveillance camera I can get my hands on in the city and I found this. He has some sort of super speed. You wouldn't really notice he moved over there". Zoe pointed at the monitor and took a quick peep at Henry. It looked like he wasn't concentrating even though his eyes were fixed to the monitor."We could make good use of him. Someone with speed as fast as that, very good. What's his name?". Henry asked hardly completing his statement."Evan Meyer"."Where can we find him?". He asked again."He should be east of the city, can't tell where exactly"."Don't bother, I will find him"."Here's a beer for you my friend". Michael tossed a beer at Ian.Ian caught it and smiled. "Thank you"."Men, we move at dawn. We have to get to that boy before anyone else gets to him". Henry addressed Ian and Michael."Someone is coming for you Ian. She is an extraordinary and she will be very useful, be prepared"."Me? I don't have anybody looking out for me or anything like that". Ian replied obviously confused."She's not looking out for you, she's just curious. And she's not someone you know but she would be very helpful". Ian said as he walked south to a door at the far end of the enclosed space."Wait, you see the future too?""I see everything Ian". Henry slammed the door behind him. "You can ask Michael to show you your room". He yelled behind the door.Sarah had woken up extra early even though it was the weekend. She was really bent on finding the robber and probably have a little chitchat with him. It could help her writing in several ways and she could get to know how he felt about being an extraordinary, perhaps, a feeling she could relate with. As she got into her car, her stomach rumbled. Then she remembered she had not taken her breakfast. It could trigger her ulcer. She didn't want to experience terrible stomach aches on her way, she rushed back into the house and realized she had forgotten her mobile phone. "Thank goodness I didn't eat before leaving". She heaved a sigh of relief.SARAH FINALLY FOUND the campervan after several hours of driving around the outskirts of the city. The campervan looked abandoned but she could tell someone had been there recently. She tried getting access into the campervan but it was locked. She paused, placed her hands on the door of the campervan, closed her eyes and in few seconds, she transitted. She saw herself inside the campervan in the midst of two men. One was peering into a map on the wall, the other was kneeling. She recognized Ian as the robber kneeling, but, didn't recognize the bearded man. She moved to the fridge in the campervan and saw an unfinished beer. She came back to reality. There was no clue pointing out the robber's whereabouts from what she saw. She immediately felt breaking into the campervan was the best option. She couldn't wait for the man to come around. He could have probably left, ditching the campervan since the robbery was successful. She thought. After forcefully breaking in, she examined the i
JAMIE WAS AWOKEN by a resounding synthesized female voice coming from a speaker located at the edge of the high walls of his room."How come I didn't notice that?". Jamie grumbled as he sat lazily on his bed. He took a quick peep at the table clock beside him and dashed into the bathroom. He didn't hear what the synthesized female voice had said but it woke him anyway. He could find out from Alex later in the day.Just as he came out clean from the bathroom, there was a loud knock on the door."Jamie are you ready?". Alex asked, raising his baritone voice a little bit high.Jamie looked at the table clock before him. It read seven fifty. He was supposed to be awake since six forty-five. "Give me ten minutes". He yelled back.Exactly ten minutes after, Alex was about to knock again as he had not expected Jared to keep to the time he gave, the door swung open."Good morning, Mr Alex". Jamie grinned."There's nothing good about the morning boy,you woke up late"."I couldn't sleep last ni
"HEY GUYS, MEET Jared, the newest extraordinary in our midst". Jamie called for the attention of everyone as he approached them. They all stared at Jamie with a numb expression on their face."Hi! Jared". One of the girl said, grinning widely and waving her left hand."Hi". Jared waved back and put on a smile. In few minutes, they had all crowded him, offering handshakes and hugs. He felt relieved until he noticed a girl among them withdrawn from the crowd that surrounded him."Who is she?". He asked Jamie barely whispering and without taking his eyes off her."Oh, She?". Jamie traced the direction Jared's eyes was pointing to and gulped hard. "Well...uhm, she's Ruby, that's how she is, kind of saucy. Just ignore her." Jamie said and walked away. Jared didn't take his eyes of her until she almost caught him staring at her, he quickly tilted his head and pretended he was looking at something else. He stole one more quick glance at her before he felt someone nudging him from behind."Wh
IT WAS NOT difficult locating the tavern as Sarah could remember Riley's Bar like it was yesterday. It was where she had her first kiss as a teenager, a feeling that still made her knees week. The outer view of the bar had not changed much from the years past. Although, it looked smaller than she could remember, she wondered if the interior of the bar was still the same picture she had in her head from years ago. She kept scanning the bar as she crossed to the other side of the road."Oops, sorry". She let out as she almost bumped into an old lady with a bag of groceries. Just a few more steps, she could tell where the accident involving Ian and his family had occured. She lowered to the ground inspecting the floors as if she could feel something beneath the hard tar floors. She slowly let her palm reach for the surface of the earth. As she came in contact with it, she transitted. But, this time, it came in flashes. She saw a male paramedic checking Ian's pulse and declaring him dead
Almost an hour of silence before Henry muttered. "We are almost there". The chirping of evening birds and the rustling of dried leaves filled the serene environment."Can you hear the lake?". Henry asked turning to face her as she had been lingering behind him all through their journey."Yes, I can". Zoe replied with a smile. Henry's roughly toned voice had intruded her thoughts."It's over there". Henry pointed at the flowing river ahead of them, less than fifty foot away. As they got to the riverbank, Henry stretched out his hands towards Zoe and she placed her palm in his. He mockingly offered her a seat on a large granite rock situated at the riverbank. He sat on the rusty ground beside her and placed his head on her thighs."What do you think about the river?". Henry asked as he lifted his head from her thighs and put a stone he had picked beside him in her right hand. She tossed the stone into the air and it landed into the river with a splash."Beautiful. That's all I can think
A CUP OF warm coffee lifted Sarah's spirits that morning even though she wasn't a fan of caffeine. Her eyes felt heavy and she felt drained, she wondered why. She had a nightmare that had her gasping the moment she woke up. She had seen herself in a forest, stuck to a tree like she was tied to it but there was no visible rope used in holding her back to the tree. She struggled so hard and screamed, but, her body wouldn't just come off the tree. It felt like someone else was in control of her body making sure she couldn't move an inch from the tree. She saw Ian and the bearded man from her transition few days ago approaching her. "You finally found me". Ian had said smirking in her dream before she woke up. The dream felt so real and she didn't know what to think. She couldn't say if it was an ordinary dream or it meant something. At this point, she had no idea what her next step should be. There was no possible way of finding Ian without a clue or something that could transit her to w
"CAN'T BELIEVE ANY human would come here". Sarah grumbled as she kept combing through the forest. She had to park her car outside of the woods as there was no way her car could pass through the gigantic trees. She had been rummaging the forest for almost thirty minutes and had not come across any sign of a single human. Frustration was beginning to eat her insides."Ugh". She grunted as she kicked a tree in frustration. "I should have planned better before coming here". She heaved a sigh after realizing the high probability of being lost."Are you looking for me?". Her attention swept to the trails of the voice that had startled her. Lo and behold! It was Ian.She smiled at first but her smile slowly turned into a facial expression of horror as everything seemed crystal clear to her whilst fragments of her nightmare the night before reappeared. She turned to run but her limbs froze. A struggle to move ensued and she shrilled out of fear "what's happening?!".Someone else was in contro
"CAN YOU HEAR me Jamie?"."Yes I can". Hearing Jamie's voice lissed Jared. He had been constantly attempting to communicate with Jamie telepathically for few minutes from his room, all his efforts proved abortive. He didn't give up as he knew Jamie could hear him but the difficulty was perceiving whatever sound that emanated from Jamie wherever he was. With more concentration, connection and persistence, he was glad he could also hear from Jamie the same way Jamie could hear from him."I just wanted to say I'm sorry, it's all my fault. I tried speaking to her telepathically and I think she freaked out. I'm sorry"."It's alright, I totally understand. But, just be careful next time, Ruby is dangerous". Jared heard Jamie's reply in his head."Is there anything I can do to help?"."No, just stay out of trouble yourself so you don't get cuffed with this metallic wristband and quarantined. Whatever is on my wrist is preventing me from using my abilities"."That's awful. Really sorry about
"AFTER BRINGING THE scrawnies under our control then what next?" Henry asked, intruding his father's privacy even though he had said he wanted to be alone.Virion chuckled as he laid on the bed before speaking."I must say that I am really impressed with you. You've grown to be a very smart, charming young man," he teased."Answer the question," Henry blurted. He was not having it easy with his father. The only reason he had not opposed Virion's plans was because he was his father and furthermore, he wouldn't want to do it in the presence of the rest of his crew. This time around, Virion must let him in and expose all his cards to him if he wanted his support. Henry had his plans also and the only way his father could buy him over is if he let's him know his plans. Why would he decide to hurt thousands of innocent citizens? How was he able to bring Zoe and Evan to the ship with just a spell?!"Then we enter a diplomatic relation with the government. That way, we can—""What's that,"
"ARE YOU SURE you'd make it to work with all of these stuff storming the city," a red haired woman was asking her husband who remained adamant and chose to head to work that morning irrespective of the scrawnies storming the city and it made her worried."Yes daddy, you shouldn't go. They look scary, like monsters," a boy of about ten years old voiced out, suddenly turning from the television he had been watching to chip into the conversation between his dad and mom.Ian adjusted his already knotted tie that seemed to be of discomfort to him at the moment."Come on, it is only happening at one side of the city. I have to get to work," Ian replied both his wife and child before picking up his briefcase. His wife knew there was nothing she could do to change his mind. The only thing she could do was to hope that he came back alive.Ian knew he made the wrong choice by opting to go to work. But, he needed to clear his head and understand somethings. He woke up this morning with his wi
"WHAT! WHAT'S HAPPENING?" Jared said as he jolted awake to his king sized bed in his room. His mother was the first person he beheld as he jumped from his sleep. She was staring in surprise, wondering what kind of dream would have made her son react the way he did from his sleep."What's wrong? Are you okay?" Joanne asked, sitting beside her son on the bed."No, yes..I mean..no," Jared stuttered in confusion trying to understand what happened and how he arrived home."How did I get here?" Jared asked after realizing he had no memory of returning home from the fortress."What do you mean? This is where you have always been, your home," his mother chuckled, hiding her confusion. Deep down inside, she wished she understood what her son was saying."No, no way," Jared said, holding his head with his hands in disappointment. He jumped from his bed to his feet and paced before replying his mother's confused gaze fixed on him."I mean yes, this is my home," Jared quickly said after noticin
SARAH UNCONSCIOUSLY SQUEEZED the masculine hand that was placed on her hand before she woke from her long sleep of recovery. Her involuntary action of gripping Michael's hand was as a result of the nightmare she had. She had no full memory of the dream but she knew she was falling from somewhere very high and was letting out an horrific scream. But, before her body reached the ground to be shattered to pieces, her eyes opened in slits and a blurry figure was standing before her. She shut her eyes and opened them slowly feeling a new surge of energy. The figure before her was no one else than her lover Michael. A faint smile escaped her lips at the sight of him.Michael smiled back and gripped her hand. She had not even realized they were holding hands until Michael squeezed and her eyes moved to the side of the bed where their hands were interlocked."I'm glad you are back," Michael said as their eyes met and with immediate effect they dove into a sensual kiss."I thought I had lost
ALFRED SLAMMED A leathered-back book on the huge table in the laboratory that was surrounded by the guardians except for Jared and Ruby. It was late at night and Jared was nowhere to be found since he decided to try talking Ruby out of leaving the Fortress."Did you guys even take a walk around the ship to see how it looks like? How large it was?" Alfred asked, raising his face from the book on the table to Jamie's face."We couldn't even see the ship but I suppose it was very large. It would have so many rooms and the interior was cool," Jamie replied."Ruby will help us with that. She knows the ship pretty well, it's the same that was brought here to carry out their operation," Jared's voice was heard through out the laboratory and a flurry of wind swept through the room. Everyone in the lab threw their face to the exit door of the laboratory to see who owned the voice.Jared was seen walking into the laboratory briskly while Ruby ordinarily lingered behind him."Jared!" Jamie sho
"WHAT MAKES YOU think those kids are not coming or making a plan," Michael asked. He had been engaging in a conversation with Henry since forever and it was reasonable so far."They won't," Henry replied, shutting his eyes and tilting his head to the back slightly to lean on the cushion sofa in his room."They would use today and tomorrow to come up with a executable plan, we move tomorrow morning. Just because I was disconnected for few minutes doesn't mean I'm no longer in control. Or don't you trust me?""I do," Michael replied. After thinking for few minutes and observing the silence, he started."How do you plan on getting Zoe and Evan out. Probably, capture Ruby again?" He asked.Henry smirked before replying."After bringing Virion back to life, things are going to change Michael," Henry was looking directly into Michael's eyes.Michael found his voice, few seconds after pondering on the statement."What do you mean things are going to change," he asked, confusion was evident
"ARE WE SURE we are in the right forest?" Jamie asked as they had been ruminating the forest for more than an hour now."Yes, we are. I can feel it but it's like the ship is not visible. Like it's abstract," Jared replied."We'd find it, don't bother," Jamie encouraged."Wait, something is wrong. I can feel it." Jared suddenly paused."In what way was the fortress protected? The ship is here, we just can't see it. Let's see if we can feel it." Jared shut his eyes for few seconds then opened them again before moving, taking calculated steps. After few seconds of walking, he stretched out his hands and he felt something. He traced it further with his palms and realized it could be the ship they were looking for."I found it already," Jared said softly."Are you sure," Jamie asked unsure of what he felt but he kept a smiling face anyways as he approached Jared."You don't necessarily have to come to where I am. You can stand at the other side and feel it," Jared said and his friend und
THE RAYS OF blue light that emanated from the large metal halo scared Sarah who was laying on a stretcher in front of it. She flinched on the soft foam she was on."Are you done?" She asked turning her head upwards, uncomfortably so she could know what was going on behind her back. She stared at the blue lights that radiated the halo and the wires connected to it. The connection wasn't something deep. The wires were directly placed on the halo as it radiated with energy light rays in it's large round center. And the wires were connected to her head directly as a passage to her brain. It just stood there on several parts of her head. The light blue spread laid on the stretcher was complementing her light blue round-neck shirt.Without looking up, Henry replied. He was squatting in front of the halo and was placing the wires on it.The energy rays that radiated the halo in blue looked magnificent and the most beautiful sight to behold. The next thing on his mind was to get the spell bo
RUBY'S HEART WAS pounding with every step she took but she was determined to make it out of the ship. All the time she had spent there, she had felt nothing but worry and regret. She wondered if she had been charmed by Henry. The only thing she cared about at the moment was getting back to the guardians, especially Jared. It was in the early hours of the morning and the sun was not up yet. As she sneaked out of the ship, the rush of cold wind that hit her gave her goosebumps immediately. She shivered a little before picking to her heels. The early morning sun was unforgiving as the intensity of the heat increased. Ruby wiped the beads of sweat off her face as she ran. The temperature of the sun was not in her favor at all. Nevertheless, she held her pace. There was no way she could have guessed that the ship was located in the open forest, one she was familiar with. The same forest outside of the city she had met Alex.Everyone else was given the freewill to leave the ship except fo
