CHAPTER 113 - BAD TIMING

-HERON’S POV*

Before I could give Katinka an expletive piece of my mind, Mikayla transported us back to our home in Firebrick, the cottage. Tyr's rage seethed out of bounds, baring his spear-like fangs in my head. He demanded to shift and the deadliness of it craved a target for his mighty talons to pounce upon.

Getting me away from the fairy queen did not appease my sullen primordial wrath. Who the fuck was she to threaten my mate bond? Tyr and I will not have anyone taking Mikayla away from us.

"Let's go back and deal with the Fairy Queen. Show her what we are made of." Tyr growled.

Sitting in my wheelchair in my anger fit, my eyes follow Mikayla as she avoids me in the bedroom, making me more pissed. Didn't she have anything to say? My mate and the fucking Firefly were betrothed and she kept this from me! Hell no! She's not going to the Fairy Realm, ever!

"Are you going to talk to me about the time that you spent with Firefly?" When I spoke, it was inadvertently thunderous.

Too much smut? Well, this is where the climax begins. What will Heron do? How will his decision affect Mikayla?

*HERON’S POV* "Alpha, are you there?" Theta Beedo urgently sought my orders after he told me that we could capture Ector Whorms today. The ground-breaking news finally reached my ears. I've waited a lifetime to catch the looney scientist who rendered me lame. Revenge was at my fingertips. Likewise, it was the day to finally mark my mate. CasterMoon had unscrupulous intentions. What the fuck were they planning? Mikayla needed protection. In my bones, I could sense it. The pit of my gut cringed with the prickly sixth sense to stay in FireBrick. Using one hand, I squeezed my eyes shut with my fingers pressing on them as I hurriedly made a decision. "I'll get Axel and Forbes with their teams to leave right away." My tone was confident, but deep inside it bothered me that I could not be there. "Ensure that you use all our gadgets, ammunition, and resources so that I can watch the excursion from here. I'll allow Simon on the mission." "Roger that, Alpha." He concedes. "I'll meet them at

*MIKAYLA’S POV*Heron’s impromptu out-of-town trip unnerved me. It fell under the branch of his responsibility as an Alpha. There will be times when he has to be away on business matters. It irked me because it took him away from me and I missed him.Deep in my heart, I wished that he would be home soon. Unbelievably, I adored him with an overflowing love. Heron was affable, appealing, highly intellectual, powerful, and sexy. The mate bond propped too much of my thoughts on him, making his absence insufferable.Pixie was not calm.On this particular day, we counted on celebrating our wolves marking each other. The disappointment delved deeper than seabeds. To avoid dousing in the plight of missing Heron, I busied myself with everything that I could. Heron and I will proceed through this obstacle slowly. Despite the fact that we are both restless and anxious. My appetite fled after Heron's departure. Semani and Amoy ate breakfast and lunch alone. Semani seems to be coming around, espec

*MIKAYLA’S POV*Amoy and Semani fought warriors but could not hold out. In the end, both girls were pinned down on the fog-grey hardwood floors after taking down a few. Furniture in the living room was smashed and damaged in the battle. Although I attempted to halt them, the girls were adamant about protecting me. They squirmed underneath the two pairs of hands that seized them, muttering curses and promising the warriors a beat down. The knowledge that I had such close friends warmed my spirit.Chippy threw his nut at Dwayne, trilling at him. Beta Dwayne rapidly lunged at him but he poofed into white powdered smoke, disappearing. My chipmunk would convey the occurrence to Aunt Katinka, which would make things worse for me and Heron. The world spun around me. Everything was getting out of control.“Don’t make this difficult,” Beta Dwayne said with barely controlled rage. "You need to come with us."Several scenarios played in my head. The best course of action was to cooperate because

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 117 - OP. 411 EXECUTION

-HERON’S POV* -East Anglia: Norfolk, England Twilight crept over the planet. Six miles north of the bustling market located in the heart of Norwich, England, is a rural region. We came upon nine acres of grassland of a ruined rickety 19th-century saltbox mansion that is engulfed by rampant vine growth on the brick exposures. Thick high shrubbery covered the majority of the grounds that our bodies ruffled with each step. Except for the fact that Theta Beedo had proclaimed this to be Ector Worms' current base, nothing seemed out of the ordinary in the quiet area. The exterior was mostly covered in vines, and although the stone and brick walls were structurally solid, some of them were crumbling. Two towers that stood nearly seventy feet high have been demolished. “Everyone, remember the plan. Arrest Ector Whorms and kill the rest," I directed over the earpiece. “Aye, captain,” some saluted. “Yes, Alpha,” confirmed the troop. “Forbes, have your men scout the outside while we go in

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 118 – VISITATIONS

-MIKAYLA’S POV* “Aren’t you Heron’s perfect little mate?” An irritatingly snickering voice uttered. “What cat dragged you in here?” A crackling laughter came from the cell across from me. The redhead pealed over like a hyena on the cold concrete floors as it rang through the underground dungeon. “What crime did the itsy bitsy fairy commit?” Her jeering went on for hours. “Or did Heron get tired of you so soon? I knew that you weren’t good enough for him. Do you want to know why? Because you are not me.” She pointed to herself, “I’m his fated mate. You are just a cheap knockoff.” Rubbing both my temples, I gritted my teeth to avoid answering her. She would not shut the hell up. My werewolf hearing made ignoring her annoying bray impossible. With my fairy powers suspended, I could not use my dust to knock her into a slumber. I was spent. There's no way to avoid her. "Tsk. Tsk. Tsk." She shakes her head and leans against the wall. "Your time is up. I mean, he could do a whole lot

-THIRD PERSON'S POV*Forbes and a platoon were stationed above grounds at the ruined building that Heron and Sage descended through to enter the tunnels. While Beedo and Axel remained at the old railway station. Unfortunately, they were all cut off from communication with Heron and Sage’s team. A double explosion was loud enough to alert them that the situation in the tunnel gravely escalated. As they held their positions, the sun blessed the earth and retreated into hiding so that the moon took its place again. No sign of Heron or Sage and their men. In war, nothing could be counted to go smoothly. Each man prayed for the best. With Axel as the next in rank, he called the shots.Alpha Reno Reven and Gamma Wayne arrived in his humvee at the location to assess the progress being made in his territory.“Any luck finding Whorms?” Alpha Reven inquired, facing Axel at the head of the tunnel on the railway tracks.“There’s been no movement outside,” Axel updated. “The motherfuckers bombed u

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 120 - DIRE STRAITS

*HERON’S POV* Finally, we got Ector Whorms. The nefarious gray-haired centenarian was captured. Completion of operation 411 was successful. After years of hunting down the criminal who rendered me paralyzed, I can bury the consuming blood-curling vengeance in my heart, because of this major accomplishment. It was a stunning victory with a massive flanking maneuver. It is impossible to overstate the bravery and risk-taking displayed in the development and implementation of this strategy. The werebears were bamboozled when our backup convoy enveloped them. From a tactical and operational standpoint, we persevered in triumph even though we lost some warriors. We removed one less villain from the realms, creating a safer and more peaceful world for all living beings. The Supernatural Triad Council was pleased with my immediate report. From the thirty civilians that were rescued, there were eight fairies, ten werewolves, three healer witches, and nine werelions. I had to stay a while w

-HERON'S POV* My new Black Audi Urbansphere Minivan parked behind the BMW i8 as we arrived at the pack house to find a list of people at the front waiting. My Bentley is still around for other purposes or Sage can have it. However, this minivan is special because Simon added special features to it. For one, I can enter the vehicle with my wheelchair and there’s enough room for me inside. Once the door opens, there are operational buttons on a square grey pad at the back of the passenger’s seat. I can press the buttons on it or use the built-in remote on my wheelchair to extend the lift that projects from the doorway. I simply get on it and use the remote to get into the Minivan. There’s an allotted space for my wheelchair that clamps the wheels and holds them in place as we travel. The Minivan can accommodate two other people but they will have to use the opposite door for entry. Simon is a freaking genius. I tell him what I need and he figures it out. • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 132 - EPILOGUE

Four years later….. -HERON’S POV* "So listen up people," I will have no nonsense today and they better not argue over this. "Tonight is a special night for me and my woman." I was fucking serious about this. Mikayla and I have been so busy that we hardly spent enough time with each other. Tonight was arranged for us to have a romantic dinner at a resort. Mikayla promised me that we could have this night together. So I met with the people in our pack who have been closest to her and caused her the most trouble, to give them a piece of my mind. "Mikayla is lovable and we all adore her,” I get that she’s a blessing. After all, no one loved her more than I did. “BUT, tonight I need to have her for myself." I demanded, "I'm the Alpha and I'm laying down some ground rules for the both of you." I’m the luckiest man in the world to have her as my wife and these two have been trying to get in between what we have. The male scrunched his face and pouted his mouth, while the other smiled a

PART 2 - -PREYA’S POV* Zixuan took me to lunch. He’s not my mate. Without my wolf, I was uncertain if I'd sense or scent my mate. My birthday felt bummed and I didn’t want to celebrate. I entered the foyer of pack house. I sported my favorite color today, looking quite petite in my light blue wrap romper with short sleeves, surplice neckline, and skirt overlay. I came to hang out with Amber for a while when a loud screeching was heard from outside. Turning around in curiosity, I spotted Sage’s car with smoke at the tires. Overriding the sinking feeling in my stomach, I rolled my eyes at his dramatic entrance. Giving him little importance, I spun around and accidentally bumped into an Omega who dropped a tray of empty wine glasses that shattered to the floor. Damn! “I’m sorry,” I apologized. The Omega appeared like she was going to cry. Oh no! I spoiled her day. I bent to help her tidy up. “Please let me clean it up,” she offered. “It’s my fault. I’ll let Beta Dwayne tell the ma

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   BONUS CH. 131.1- PREYA'S BITHDAY

PART 1 - Two weeks later..... -PREYA’S POV* Over in Primese Forest, I sat on the ground with my mated parents at 11:55 pm, five minutes away from my birthday. My back rested against a sandalwood tree feeling anxious and worried. My Dad, Senior Warrior Brian Delvaux, is a full-blooded werewolf and towers over me at 6’2'. He is chocolate colored with wavy black hair and gimlet blue eyes. He had a patrician nose and hirsute, bible-black eyebrows on an artist's face. Mom gave me a reassuring smile, “Honey, it will be alright.” They understood my glum mood and apprehension. “We’ll be here with you through the process,” Dad said sweetly, then glanced at the mired beauty of the moon. The silver deity of the submerged night embellished the still forest with its serene sweetness as we waited. “Thanks, Dad,” I replied, with a wildly beating heart. Because I have witch blood, I feared that I might not shift. This added to my further concerns about having a mate if I had no wolf. The mental

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 131 - SHINING LUNA

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Preya and Amoy did all our makeup. They are the beauty queens of the group and they spent twenty minutes painting my face with silver eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and haute pink ultra-shine lip gloss. Luna Phoebe and Grandma Melody, the former Luna, joined us in Heron’s room at the pack house with my dress. “We hope you like it,” Grandma Melody chimed, optimistically. I donned the silver sweetheart neckline, full lace beach backless mermaid gown with a 3" 4” heel silver satin lace ribbon open-toe shoes. On my tight curls waterfall hairstyle, I wore a headwear diadem of white gold lined with 1, 222 diamonds, including the 102-carat pale blue brilliant diamond at the center which also includes pearls, and its design features roses, thistles, and orchids in honor of the fairy realm. Chippy brought it as a gift from Aunt Katinka. Preya squealed and clapped. “You look amazing!” When I stood in front of the mirror, I barely recognized myself. The girls gasped, “Wow.”

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 130 - ACCEPTANCE

-HERON’S POV* An uproar of celebration came from the pack. The tidal surge of happiness and gaiety tsunamis through the state. Everyone now understands that Mikayla was framed and innocently sent to her death. Tapping into the pack’s connection, I felt each Elders' remorse. With a mild injection of sorrow, many wished that their true Luna did not die and was present at this crucial moment of truth. Sage, who I’m still pissed at, hands me some wipes to clean my bloody hand. I glared at him while pulling the sheets of wipes out and sanitizing my hand. “Alpha, I said that I was sorry.” He penitently bowed his head. Solemnly, I turned my head away from him, paying attention to my fingernails and getting the blood out. “Can you bake, Sage?” I scowled. The sizzling anger rebounds. “N-no,” he stuttered. As a result of being under the heat of his alpha, he tugs at the collar of his shirt, which seemingly tightened. Then he nervously suggested, “Maybe Forbes could bake them.” Growling, I

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 129 - CATCHING HER

-HERON’S POV* Today, my countenance has a smiley face. The pineapple tarts were delicious. I left two in the refrigerator because I did not want to finish them all at once. This morning, Sage inadvertently ate one. I almost murdered him. Tyr shifted in the kitchen to rip his throat out and it took Axel and Forbes to pry me off my Beta. They were made with love and it was that love that flittered around my heart. Sage had no right to interfere with my treat. They were sentimental and specially made for me. My Beta better avoid the cottage for a while. Tyr was still fuming over it and not in a magnanimous mood. Charlotte didn’t leave the cottage until noon. Rosalie accepted my invitation to have breakfast with me. In one conversation, a lot can be summarized. To be honest, my decision was made. Naming her my Luna would get the elders to simmer down. There was no use prolonging this further. Then the rest should automatically go according to plan. Demi and I messaged each other a lot.

She stays at the pack house and is elated to be out of the cells. As expected, she goes around as though she runs the damn pack. Displaying qualities she deemed a born leader. I leave her be. • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 127 - THE EXECUTION

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Barefooted, I was clad in a long red gown that touched the ground. Red signified the shedding of blood and sinfulness. It's the day of my death for the crimes that I did not commit. I had to walk the crucifixion path from the cottage to Davidan Forest, which is south of the territory. With the soles of my feet grated against the dirt and pebbles, I came upon a clearing in the middle of the forest where the sun scorched the green pigmentation from the grass, turning it brown and crisp. The fierce sun's combative photons, which scorched my ivory skin, had no wind to temper them. Amidst the green field was the stake consisting of a tall pillar with a large pile of firewood and stones at the base for torching. All the Elders stood to the left, while the Alpha and Luna and warriors were on the right. Valen was at the stake, waiting for me. Because Heron had marked me, the majority of the pack was mournful. I felt their pain, while they felt mine. I gripped the sides of
