-MIKAYLA’S POV*

“Aren’t you Heron’s perfect little mate?” An irritatingly snickering voice uttered. “What cat dragged you in here?”

A crackling laughter came from the cell across from me. The redhead pealed over like a hyena on the cold concrete floors as it rang through the underground dungeon.

“What crime did the itsy bitsy fairy commit?” Her jeering went on for hours. “Or did Heron get tired of you so soon? I knew that you weren’t good enough for him. Do you want to know why? Because you are not me.” She pointed to herself, “I’m his fated mate. You are just a cheap knockoff.”

Rubbing both my temples, I gritted my teeth to avoid answering her. She would not shut the hell up. My werewolf hearing made ignoring her annoying bray impossible. With my fairy powers suspended, I could not use my dust to knock her into a slumber.

I was spent. There's no way to avoid her.

"Tsk. Tsk. Tsk." She shakes her head and leans against the wall. "Your time is up. I mean, he could do a whole lot

-THIRD PERSON'S POV*Forbes and a platoon were stationed above grounds at the ruined building that Heron and Sage descended through to enter the tunnels. While Beedo and Axel remained at the old railway station. Unfortunately, they were all cut off from communication with Heron and Sage’s team. A double explosion was loud enough to alert them that the situation in the tunnel gravely escalated. As they held their positions, the sun blessed the earth and retreated into hiding so that the moon took its place again. No sign of Heron or Sage and their men. In war, nothing could be counted to go smoothly. Each man prayed for the best. With Axel as the next in rank, he called the shots.Alpha Reno Reven and Gamma Wayne arrived in his humvee at the location to assess the progress being made in his territory.“Any luck finding Whorms?” Alpha Reven inquired, facing Axel at the head of the tunnel on the railway tracks.“There’s been no movement outside,” Axel updated. “The motherfuckers bombed u

*HERON’S POV* Finally, we got Ector Whorms. The nefarious gray-haired centenarian was captured. Completion of operation 411 was successful. After years of hunting down the criminal who rendered me paralyzed, I can bury the consuming blood-curling vengeance in my heart, because of this major accomplishment. It was a stunning victory with a massive flanking maneuver. It is impossible to overstate the bravery and risk-taking displayed in the development and implementation of this strategy. The werebears were bamboozled when our backup convoy enveloped them. From a tactical and operational standpoint, we persevered in triumph even though we lost some warriors. We removed one less villain from the realms, creating a safer and more peaceful world for all living beings. The Supernatural Triad Council was pleased with my immediate report. From the thirty civilians that were rescued, there were eight fairies, ten werewolves, three healer witches, and nine werelions. I had to stay a while w

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 121 - VALEN'S ARRIVAL

-HERON'S POV* My new Black Audi Urbansphere Minivan parked behind the BMW i8 as we arrived at the pack house to find a list of people at the front waiting. My Bentley is still around for other purposes or Sage can have it. However, this minivan is special because Simon added special features to it. For one, I can enter the vehicle with my wheelchair and there’s enough room for me inside. Once the door opens, there are operational buttons on a square grey pad at the back of the passenger’s seat. I can press the buttons on it or use the built-in remote on my wheelchair to extend the lift that projects from the doorway. I simply get on it and use the remote to get into the Minivan. There’s an allotted space for my wheelchair that clamps the wheels and holds them in place as we travel. The Minivan can accommodate two other people but they will have to use the opposite door for entry. Simon is a freaking genius. I tell him what I need and he figures it out. From the small group that bu

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 122 - VALEN'S DECREE

*HERON’S POV* After taking Mikayla upstairs, she showered and washed her hair. I gave her one of my button-up short sleeve shirts to put on. It was the only thing that I wanted to see her wear. Tyr wanted our scent all over her. She was pale and tired like she had not slept in days. Though she was catered for in the cells with food and necessities, she barely ate until I fed her. Knowing that Charlotte was in the dungeons and so close to her, disturbed me. Though Mikayla had not mentioned it, I knew that Charlotte had verbalized unkind words to her. Tyr and I struggled with leaving her in the cell even if it was for a few hours. Imagine my joy when Valen ordered her to the cottage. The question that jammed me was: why put her under house arrest? It makes no sense. Deepened with the urge to cater to all Mikayla's needs, I had Amoy blend a quick nutritious energy drink for her so that she could slip into bed and sleep while rejuvenating her body. All the girls came over, even when I

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 123 - BREAKING THE NEWS

-MIKAYLA’S POV* It felt good to be back at the cottage. I slept though I missed being in the arms of my Alpha. I knew that he would make everything alright because I trusted him. It pleased my heart that he believed in me. I took a long warm bath and relaxed my nerves. Stilling my thoughts and enjoying the serenity of the moment. The stench of the dungeon still abides in my nostrils. It made me feel extra dirty. The moon's discreet bow grew its mystic light in the sombre sky. On this windless night, like a lamp in the air of the dusky blue, her radiance kisses me through the window panes. After a time, I slipped out and into one of Heron’s T-shirt before climbing into bed once more. Chippy orbed on my nightstand. I extended my right palm and he sat in it. "Well, what did you find out?" He must have completed the mission that I sent him on to snoop around CasterMoon for anything that could help my case. Chippy went chuck-chuck as he spoke to me. Varla's heart flat-lined twice b

-MIKAYLA'S POV*Oh, how my ears do deceive me!Execution? The air around me stifles me. Oxygen passes through my nostrils yet the flow of it sticks in my throat. Panic is the only emotion that my brain processes. I slapped my left palm over my quivering lips.Heron is before me, in our bedroom. He breaks the tragic news of my life drawing near to the grave. How could they rule a guilty verdict? In seven days I will be executed by the crown prince.Heron was my small grain of hope out of this mess. That optimism has since vanished, leaving my heart in a desolate place."I thought that Prince Valen was your friend. Why isn't he helping us?” I asked, pacing the room back and forth, too jittery to stay still."No one is above the law, Mika." He imparted, sitting up in the bed. “Varla remains in a coma.”"But I'm innocent! And Varla will awaken soon." I shouted with tears prickling my eyes. My trembling fingers curled into stiff fists."I know that but….” Heron hitches, "The evidence is st

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 125 - MARKED

-MIKAYLA’S POV* “No.” “What?” He let his brow furrow in disbelief. “Baby, don’t be like this.” When I attempted to climb out of his lap, his inelastic hold on my waist hindered my movement. The proposal was absurd. Earlier, I had believed that he had gotten me acquitted. Marking me was useless because I was about to die. “Mikayla, why would you deny us this? I can finally mark you; make you my official Luna.” Heron’s face shut down, going from highly expectant to disappointment in a heartbeat. “What’s the point when I’m a dying woman? You should mark the next woman who will stand at your side.” Tears gathered in my wide-open eyes. Our entire time together was a bankrupt dream. This was awfully sweet, tempting, and utterly unfair. “I have to. Please let us have this, even if it’s for a couple of days.” His face set into hard lines. “It’s time to officiate you as my Luna.” He came to a complete halt, swallowed, and fixed his intense need on me in such a way that I was unable to ev

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 126 – CODE TALK

-CHARLOTTE’S POV* Warrior Corben escorted the blonde woman with grey eyes to my cell. Unfortunately, we could not have a private conversation since it was against the dungeon rules. My former best friend, Audrey, models down the corridor to my cell. Humph. Bitches aren’t loyal these days. Losing my wolf meant losing my former life and friends. Omar tried to see me and was denied. Thank the goddess for that! Ted Callaghan, his father, visited once. He made sure I understood the different ways in which he wanted to kill me, but since I was under the Alpha’s custody, his last wish was to see me suffer greatly. Only the Alpha can lay a hand on me. “Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.” She shakes her head disapprovingly at me. It gets boring since she does this customarily. The woman wears a smug look. She was dolled up in make-up, too much if you asked me. I sighed and gave her a condescending look, “What the fuck do you want?” “We are best friends.” She chortles under hypocrisy, “I have missed you.”

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 132 - EPILOGUE

Four years later….. -HERON’S POV* "So listen up people," I will have no nonsense today and they better not argue over this. "Tonight is a special night for me and my woman." I was fucking serious about this. Mikayla and I have been so busy that we hardly spent enough time with each other. Tonight was arranged for us to have a romantic dinner at a resort. Mikayla promised me that we could have this night together. So I met with the people in our pack who have been closest to her and caused her the most trouble, to give them a piece of my mind. "Mikayla is lovable and we all adore her,” I get that she’s a blessing. After all, no one loved her more than I did. “BUT, tonight I need to have her for myself." I demanded, "I'm the Alpha and I'm laying down some ground rules for the both of you." I’m the luckiest man in the world to have her as my wife and these two have been trying to get in between what we have. The male scrunched his face and pouted his mouth, while the other smiled a

PART 2 - -PREYA’S POV* Zixuan took me to lunch. He’s not my mate. Without my wolf, I was uncertain if I'd sense or scent my mate. My birthday felt bummed and I didn’t want to celebrate. I entered the foyer of pack house. I sported my favorite color today, looking quite petite in my light blue wrap romper with short sleeves, surplice neckline, and skirt overlay. I came to hang out with Amber for a while when a loud screeching was heard from outside. Turning around in curiosity, I spotted Sage’s car with smoke at the tires. Overriding the sinking feeling in my stomach, I rolled my eyes at his dramatic entrance. Giving him little importance, I spun around and accidentally bumped into an Omega who dropped a tray of empty wine glasses that shattered to the floor. Damn! “I’m sorry,” I apologized. The Omega appeared like she was going to cry. Oh no! I spoiled her day. I bent to help her tidy up. “Please let me clean it up,” she offered. “It’s my fault. I’ll let Beta Dwayne tell the ma

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   BONUS CH. 131.1- PREYA'S BITHDAY

PART 1 - Two weeks later..... -PREYA’S POV* Over in Primese Forest, I sat on the ground with my mated parents at 11:55 pm, five minutes away from my birthday. My back rested against a sandalwood tree feeling anxious and worried. My Dad, Senior Warrior Brian Delvaux, is a full-blooded werewolf and towers over me at 6’2'. He is chocolate colored with wavy black hair and gimlet blue eyes. He had a patrician nose and hirsute, bible-black eyebrows on an artist's face. Mom gave me a reassuring smile, “Honey, it will be alright.” They understood my glum mood and apprehension. “We’ll be here with you through the process,” Dad said sweetly, then glanced at the mired beauty of the moon. The silver deity of the submerged night embellished the still forest with its serene sweetness as we waited. “Thanks, Dad,” I replied, with a wildly beating heart. Because I have witch blood, I feared that I might not shift. This added to my further concerns about having a mate if I had no wolf. The mental

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 131 - SHINING LUNA

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Preya and Amoy did all our makeup. They are the beauty queens of the group and they spent twenty minutes painting my face with silver eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and haute pink ultra-shine lip gloss. Luna Phoebe and Grandma Melody, the former Luna, joined us in Heron’s room at the pack house with my dress. “We hope you like it,” Grandma Melody chimed, optimistically. I donned the silver sweetheart neckline, full lace beach backless mermaid gown with a 3" 4” heel silver satin lace ribbon open-toe shoes. On my tight curls waterfall hairstyle, I wore a headwear diadem of white gold lined with 1, 222 diamonds, including the 102-carat pale blue brilliant diamond at the center which also includes pearls, and its design features roses, thistles, and orchids in honor of the fairy realm. Chippy brought it as a gift from Aunt Katinka. Preya squealed and clapped. “You look amazing!” When I stood in front of the mirror, I barely recognized myself. The girls gasped, “Wow.”

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 130 - ACCEPTANCE

-HERON’S POV* An uproar of celebration came from the pack. The tidal surge of happiness and gaiety tsunamis through the state. Everyone now understands that Mikayla was framed and innocently sent to her death. Tapping into the pack’s connection, I felt each Elders' remorse. With a mild injection of sorrow, many wished that their true Luna did not die and was present at this crucial moment of truth. Sage, who I’m still pissed at, hands me some wipes to clean my bloody hand. I glared at him while pulling the sheets of wipes out and sanitizing my hand. “Alpha, I said that I was sorry.” He penitently bowed his head. Solemnly, I turned my head away from him, paying attention to my fingernails and getting the blood out. “Can you bake, Sage?” I scowled. The sizzling anger rebounds. “N-no,” he stuttered. As a result of being under the heat of his alpha, he tugs at the collar of his shirt, which seemingly tightened. Then he nervously suggested, “Maybe Forbes could bake them.” Growling, I

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 129 - CATCHING HER

-HERON’S POV* Today, my countenance has a smiley face. The pineapple tarts were delicious. I left two in the refrigerator because I did not want to finish them all at once. This morning, Sage inadvertently ate one. I almost murdered him. Tyr shifted in the kitchen to rip his throat out and it took Axel and Forbes to pry me off my Beta. They were made with love and it was that love that flittered around my heart. Sage had no right to interfere with my treat. They were sentimental and specially made for me. My Beta better avoid the cottage for a while. Tyr was still fuming over it and not in a magnanimous mood. Charlotte didn’t leave the cottage until noon. Rosalie accepted my invitation to have breakfast with me. In one conversation, a lot can be summarized. To be honest, my decision was made. Naming her my Luna would get the elders to simmer down. There was no use prolonging this further. Then the rest should automatically go according to plan. Demi and I messaged each other a lot.

The whole scenario sired a headache. It was after Mikayla’s death that I realized that Mom truly liked her. Mom cried after the execution and even father had to console her. While Mom gives Charlotte things to do in the pack, acting like her executive assistant, she will never be my Mikayla. No one can.For now, Charlotte stands at my side. She stays at the pack house and is elated to be out of the cells. As expected, she goes around as though she runs the damn pack. Displaying qualities she deemed a born leader. I leave her be. Whilst, I cater to her essential needs. Pitifully, Charlotte kisses Mom’s ass and sucks up to Dad.I miss waking up to Mikayla's pale luminous skin in the weak morning light. My sugar fairy Luna. • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 127 - THE EXECUTION

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Barefooted, I was clad in a long red gown that touched the ground. Red signified the shedding of blood and sinfulness. It's the day of my death for the crimes that I did not commit. I had to walk the crucifixion path from the cottage to Davidan Forest, which is south of the territory. With the soles of my feet grated against the dirt and pebbles, I came upon a clearing in the middle of the forest where the sun scorched the green pigmentation from the grass, turning it brown and crisp. The fierce sun's combative photons, which scorched my ivory skin, had no wind to temper them. Amidst the green field was the stake consisting of a tall pillar with a large pile of firewood and stones at the base for torching. All the Elders stood to the left, while the Alpha and Luna and warriors were on the right. Valen was at the stake, waiting for me. Because Heron had marked me, the majority of the pack was mournful. I felt their pain, while they felt mine. I gripped the sides of
