Episode 31

HAYLE'S POV.

My fingers remain curled up into my hair, my lips moving in sync to the slow jazz played through the stereo of the driver, my eyes against the window while a light drizzle of rain fell through the glass.

“We are there, mam.” The cab driver called out to my attention, and I nodded with a faint smile before standing to my feet.

“Thanks sir.” Before passing a bill to him, I responded.

“Keep the change,” I responded to him keenly with my words. Not holding the entire thing back, perhaps if I was a little more nice, something good could probably come my way.

I shrugged slowly, dragging my feet towards the entrance. I could see Emily seated comfortably on the chair placed on the porch.

“Wow. That's kind of early; what happened? Did anyone get into an accident? She asked about lighting up the end of her cigarette. I rolled my eyes, trying to hold in my pain.

“Nope, nothing of that sort; maybe worse, you know what? It doesn't even matter; I'll end up walking away on my own terms.
