Chapter 62

CATHERINE.

I watched as the men I loved drove away, leaving me behind with the man I loathed the most. I had no idea what would happen next, and I doubted if I could ever get away from him. My last chance of being saved was gone.

I just hoped that after two days, if we didn’t show up there, they would find a way to come back here in full force. Maybe take the Council with them — anyone, just as long as they would not be outnumbered. But with the many weapons all around here, I was already losing hope they could do something about this.

“They’re gone. No need to stare at the open space.” Maddox chuckled mockingly as he walked back to the packhouse, leaving me alone.

I didn’t say anything. I didn’t even move to look at him, even when all I wanted was to shout at him and punch him. I had to restrain myself, at least until my family left the territory.
