CHAPTER 28: DON'T HATE ME

Flickering my heavy eyelids open, I tried to adjust to the room's brightness. My mind and vision were blurry as I lay still on my side, subconsciously taking in my surroundings.

Gradually stirring into consciousness, I absentmindedly watched the moving lines on the heart monitor while the soft hiss of the oxygen tank filtered into my ears. It soon dawned on me that I was in one of the pack's hospital rooms.

Instinctively, I reached for my stomach, cradling it as my mind reeled back to the strange, excruciating pain that had suddenly attacked me. It had coursed stabbing pains all over my body, knocking the breath out of my lungs with such force that I never thought I would see the light of another day.

The pain was strange and familiar at the same time.

I closed my eyes, trying to shut out the thoughts. I didn't want to ponder it, as I wasn't ready to deal with the pounding headache that usually came when I tried to recall something about my past.
