CHAPTER 79

Seeing the garden is suddenly the last thing on my mind. Crawling back into Jade's lap and having him feed me seemed to be a lot more enjoyable way to spend the morning. He appears to understand what I'm thinking based on the curvature of his lips.

But, with Sam presumably staring at me and Jade and wondering what happened, I push myself to resist temptation.

I anticipated him to treat me differently after I broke down and wept myself to sleep. I expected to treat him differently because he was the one who compelled me to speak. But he wasn't attempting to harm me. I'm not sure how I know it, but I do, and it feels weird to be furious at him when I've slept better in the previous few nights than I have since I woke up in the hospital.

"Finn is wandering around out there," Dan says as I move over to Sam, who is waiting for me at the doorway. "So it's safe."

I turn to face him and grin. "Thanks, Dan."

He returns my grin, and as usual, it makes me want to trust him.
