CHAPTER 81

"You still haven't told me what that is," Jade said earlier in the Cerberus. "Jade said..." I come to a halt because my mouth is too dry, so I swallow while I search for words that have chosen to forsake me.

Dan waits with the same patient expression on his face.

Then I realize what I'm up to. Or not doing anything.

I'm sitting cross-legged on Dan's bed, wearing Jade's shirt, settling into a house that isn't mine and a life that can't be mine.

Darius is likely to burst through the front door soon. He'll be bringing his pack with him. They'll rip Jade, Dan, and Finn apart, and he'll take me back.

What exactly are you doing, Amanda? Why are you acting as if the threat has passed?

I scoot to the edge of the bed, unwrap my legs, and set one foot on the floor, ready to rise. Dan arrives before I can, one moist hand clutching my right forearm as he lifts me to my feet.

He refuses to let me go. "What do you want, Amanda?"
