Chapter 8

Author: Sissi
Late that night, I was roused by the loud revving of a car's engine. I peeked out of the curtains to see a car running over zombies as it sped forward before stopping outside a villa at the end of the road.

A woman covered from head to toe got out of the car with a baby in her arms. She ran to the villa, but zombies intercepted her and tore them to shreds. I could vaguely hear the baby's cries, but when the zombies dispersed, all that was left was a pool of blood.

Adults could withstand the horrible external conditions, but babies couldn't. Parents would do everything they could to provide their children with better environments and keep them alive.

Behind me, Emmett said, "I'm glad I became a zombie early on in our past lives."

"That's not happening in this lifetime," I said.

Suddenly, we heard the buzzing of a drone in the air. I immediately drew the curtains shut.

The drone hovered above the neighborhood for a while before circling the area and observing the situation. I watch

Two months had passed since the zombie outbreak. We heard loud banging on our gate—a crowd had gathered outside."Open up! We know there are people inside!""Keep hiding if you want! We'll feed you the zombies when we get in there!"A woman's weak voice rang out, "Maybe we shouldn't kill them if they're willing to share their food."A loud slap followed. "Shut up!"The woman seemed to fall onto the floor from the force of the slap. She didn't say anything else after that.Joyce curled up in my arms as Mom and I grabbed our guns and headed to the second floor to shoot the unwelcome visitors down. Meanwhile, Emmett guarded the door on the first floor. The gate fell open with a loud crash, and chaotic footsteps stormed into the yard. It didn't take long for someone to step on the nails scattered all over the place. They howled in pain. The noise attracted the roaming zombies, who flooded in and surrounded the group. Several seconds later, all that was left was the sound of the zom

  • Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse   Chapter 10

On the second day of the new year, the sound of running cars came from outside. We also heard gunshots and explosions.I looked out the window to see seven or eight cars drive into the neighborhood. The people in them searched each villa for supplies. These people were dangerous—they were the bandits who'd taken all my supplies in my past life. They broke down the door to the villa next door and dragged the couple inside out. Then, they pillaged the place for food.In my past life, I'd saved the neighboring couple as they'd fought back against the bandits. I'd ended up getting injured and losing all my supplies, yet the people I'd risked my life for had betrayed me in our retreat. They'd shoved me into a horde of zombies. This time, I was going to stand by and watch. The bandits only wanted food—the couple wouldn't be in danger if they didn't attack first."They have plenty of supplies! Go ransack their home!" The woman pointed at my house when she saw the bandits taking her food.

Seven months after the zombie outbreak, we finally drove up to a safe zone's entrance. The gates swung open, and military and medical personnel were on high alert inside. If any of us were found to have been infected, we would immediately be killed. There were over 10,000 survivors in the safe zone. Emmett had already signed up to join the defense squad and would work with the military to protect the safe zone.Meanwhile, I went to the head of the military and showed him the records of my purchases prior to the zombie outbreak. I said, "I've been reborn. In my past life, I died three years after the zombie outbreak."These are records of my purchases before the zombie outbreak. In a year, the safe zone will be overrun by a large wave of zombies. We have to prepare in advance."He took my phone and looked at it in surprise. The day the zombie wave came upon us, close to 10,000 women, elderly, and children took cover in the safe zone's underground shelter. Everyone looked worried. My colleagues and I did our best to comfort and soothe everyone. We prayed that we would make it through this and that everyone fighting to protect us would make it out alive.I shut my eyes and prayed, too. Thanks to an explosion that had occurred in a research lab, an unknown substance was leaked to the world. This was the start of the apocalyptic era, where humans could get infected by the substance, thus transforming into zombies.Three years after the zombie apocalypse started, I died in the maws of the zombies. To make things worse, my kindness was the reason behind my eventual death.Surprisingly enough, I was reborn to the timeframe where there were six hours left before the zombie outbreak began.Memories of my past life were replayed in my mind like a movie reel. It was as if I could still smell the rotten and bloodied stench wafting from the zombies. With a trembling hand, I felt my neck. Although it felt smooth and flawless, I could still feel phantom pain flaring from it.The moment my phone's screen lit up, I turned my attention to it immediately. It was currently October 2nd, 2025, also known as the day the zombie virus was leaked. It was then I could finally confirm t

I finally got to see my precious daughter five hours before the zombie outbreak. It had been three years since I last saw her. The moment my gaze fell on Joyce, I couldn't stop my tears from streaming down my cheeks. At the same time, I felt as though I could still hear Joyce's wails coming from the security footage when she was being assaulted by the zombies."Mommy, why did you come over to pick me up this early?" Joyce dashed toward me the moment she saw me."Well, I missed my precious baby." I hugged Joyce immediately, letting my tears stream down my cheeks silently."Mrs. Fairfield, are you alright?" Anna asked worriedly.I picked Joyce up. "I'm fine. Thank you, Ms. Preston. We're leaving now. You and the others should take care of yourselves."Even though I knew that the zombie outbreak was imminent, I couldn't divulge the mystical information of my rebirth to anyone else. All I could do was tell Anna to be more careful. After returning to the car, I drove in Walmart's dir

My mom reached home four hours before the zombie outbreak."Oh, my goodness! Sweetheart, this is just one party, right? Why did you buy so much food?" Mom asked in a shocked tone as she stared at the food and water that had already taken over the living room.I hadn't seen my mother for three long years. In my previous life, I had traversed through half the city just to reach her home, only to see a puddle of blood marring her floors. It was only natural for me to rush over and pull her into a tight hug before planting kisses all over her cheeks."Mom, I'll explain everything to you once I come home later, okay? Please take care of Joyce for now. I need to go out again."Our lives were at stake. I didn't have time to explain to Mom what was going on. These supplies were barely enough to support us.I could still remember the agony of having to drink water just to curb my hunger for days after my supplies got stolen in my previous life. This time, I needed to make sure that I could

I saw Emmett rushing home three hours before the zombie outbreak. He brought many weapons and equipment with him, which soon cluttered the living room's floors. The ample ammunition and weapons made me relax ever so slightly."Honey, now can you please explain why we have to buy this many supplies?" Both Emmett and Mom sat on the couch while waiting for my explanation."I know what I'm about to say will sound unbelievable, but I hope that you can listen to me patiently till the end."I sat across from them before spilling the beans about my rebirth in a few broad strokes."In three hours, the zombie outbreak will begin. I hope that we can survive the apocalypse this time as a family."My voice gradually became choked up. When I remembered the three solitary years I had spent in my previous life, all I could feel was pain and loneliness overwhelming me.The experience of being bitten to death in my previous life still haunted me. • Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse   Chapter 7

One day had passed after the zombie outbreak. We still had water and electricity, but it was hard to tell how long they would last. After breakfast, we surfed the Net to see how things were going. On Twitter, there were images and videos of zombies eating people everywhere.I searched for news of the military entering the city, but just as it had been in my past life, they were nowhere to be seen. This wasn't because they were slow to react, though. As frontliners, many of them had become zombies after being infected by the virus, especially in the initial stages of the outbreak. The government had tried to use large-scale, mass destruction thermal weapons to exterminate the zombies. While this was an effective way to kill them in large numbers, as long as even one remained alive, they would quickly infect a large group again.Ultimately, the military had given up on rescue efforts and had instead focused on building safe zones to protect the surviving humans. That morning, a few

Joyce was startled awake by the sounds that came from the outside. Frightened, she began to wail at the top of her lungs.I pulled her into my arms before I began coaxing her softly, "Don't be scared, Joyce. Mommy's here."Joyce nestled against my chest. Gradually, she stopped crying."Don't let Joyce see what's going on outside." Mom drew the curtains once again."She'll have to accept the new reality sooner or later." I had no idea how long the apocalypse would last. Besides, the casualty rate of children was extremely high during the apocalypse. I would never stop Joyce from finding out how cruel this world had become.Once Joyce finally calmed down, Emmett and I began checking the doors and windows. Then, we started counting the supplies we had. When we heard the sounds of a car screeching to a halt outside the villa, Emmett quickly grabbed a rifle and moved to stand behind a window. I picked up a gun as well before joining him nervously."Darling, open up!" It was the voi

The countdown of the final hour had begun.Emmett and I did a quick check on the supplies at home to see if we were missing out on anything. After that, we filled up all the buckets and basins with water to ensure that we had enough water to tough out the apocalypse. In the end, we drove to the nearest supermarket."Although fresh fruits and vegetables rot easily, we still have to make sure that our nutrient intake is sufficient and balanced during the early stage of the outbreak. We can't just rely on vitamins," Emmett said to me while loading our shopping cart with fruits."It's my fault. I was in a rush just now." Having survived three years in the apocalypse, my mindset was already fixated on ensuring everyone's survival when I was buying supplies earlier. In doing so, I had completely forgotten about the quality of the supplies.Emmett stroked my head, his heart aching for me. "You worked really hard. This time, we'll work hard together. We'll definitely survive the apocaly
