Chapter Nine

I took deep breaths to calm my racing heart and listened intently to ensure I wasn't being followed.

I had no idea where I was or where I was headed to. All I knew was that I had to keep walking till I found somewhere safe.

Wandering in unfamiliar territory was a sure way to attract dangerous rogues and I wasn't sure I was ready to try to outrun another set of enemies.

I took slow but steady steps, my flashlight illuminating my path. Under different circumstances, I might have stopped to admire the vibrant greenery and wild flowers, but I was on the run from my unknown attackers.

Just then, I heard the steady beat of paws hitting the earth, racing towards my direction.

My palms became clammy with fear and my heart was threatening to burst out of my chest. I dropped my phone and instantly the light went off.
