FAYE"What?!" I shouted, the echo ringing off the walls of the house."He arranged a marriage for you, Faye. You're to marry Axel after you're officially crowned Luna." She said.My eyes flitted around the kitchen, looking anywhere but at her."Does... does Axel know?" I asked."Yes. He does. He's aware of your father's wishes."I was shocked and angry and even more annoying; I felt excited. A little part of me felt thrilled to think I could be with a man like Axel. But another arranged marriage? I wasn't even free from the ties of the first one. I looked at her with more than a little indignation. Why had Maximus done that? What was with all his rules and stipulations?"What gives him the right to say I should marry his right-hand man? I just met the man. And I'm married. How am I supposed to wrap my head around all of this?" I asked Yvonne, hoping for some explanation that would make everything make sense. Yvonne approached me, her heels making soft clicks on the tiled floor of
NATHAN"Hello Chris." I was in my chair, in the office at the pack house, staring at the man with hard, unforgiving eyes as he sat across from me, body hunched over in fear. Lannon and Ernouf stood on either side of him, ready to carry out any orders I gave."You said three days, Chris.""Yes, Mr… Sir," he sharply changed words when he threw a glance at the men standing over him. "Where is my wife? You said three days, five at the most. But it's been two weeks. Two fucking weeks!" I banged my fist on the table and he looked even more scared of the possibilities. I had no doubt this man knew what men of my power were capable of. Even if he didn't know what I was. That I or either of the two men beside him could tear him apart with our claws deep in his chest. He hadn't found her. And he'd had the nerve to run with my money.I'd waited and waited for news on Faye, but had gotten nothing. Only to find him lounging in a resort, with my money as he planned on flying out too."I did the
NATHANI flipped from one news channel to the other and things were much better than they were the last week. Since I told the world my wife was missing, it was like everywhere had been on fire. Every news channel covered the story, and reporters called my office lines incessantly, wanting to see me. Like how the vultures hovered near a carcass they'd been on me, persistent and determined to get something from me.Avril had handled all the unwanted calls diligently, and I'd had some sort of peace in my office. Leaving work every day for the past week had been near hell. They always camped out front, the reporters asking for updates on my wife's missing case. "We're waiting for news from the police on the matter." I had kept telling them. "I couldn't wait for my wife to return to me. I hope for her to be found every day and every minute of my life." Quite irritating that I had to play pretend games concerning this. Most of them had looked at me with pity in their eyes. They didn't
FAYEYvonne and I were running the trail around the lake near the house, sweat dripping into our eyes from the intense heat. As it was, we were battling ninety-plus degrees; me trying to be a showoff and prove I could keep up with Yvonne, who was already used to this running routine. She apparently did this every day, including working out at the gym.It was no wonder she was in such great shape. I envied the rigid strength and hard core I could feel in her. She wasn't anyone's plaything or subordinate.I hated running — almost absolutely loathed it. I would much rather have been in my bed today. It was a Saturday, and it was a week since I had started school. But fortunately for me, I had also learned that I had a competitive spirit, and I wanted to build the same hard spine Yvonne had. She will get to see that I'm working at being better. Being strong enough to take over for my father. To be like the rest of them, even if I was a latent. So when she asked me to train with her, I’d
FAYEThat was Nathan on the news. I jolted and sprang back into the shelf behind me, causing it to topple and almost go crashing to the floor if Yvonne hadn't caught it.Nathan was still searching for me?I turned to Yvonne as she righted the shelf and the cashier rounded the counter with a wary look on his face. He didn't want any trouble, and I'd almost tipped the shelf over. "Faye. Calm yourself." Yvonne said to me. How could I? That was my picture on the screen, too. There for the entire world to see it was me."He's going to find me, isn't he?" I asked Yvonne. She gripped me and guided me to a chair by the corner and pressed me down on it.She bent low to look at me. "Faye. He won't be able to find you. I've made sure of it.""But they splashed my face all over the TV. You can't guarantee someone wouldn't recognize me." I yelled at her, worried about the news I'd seen, worried that I'd have to go back."Faye, calm down. I'll explain later when we get home. But not here." She w
FAYEIt was Monday today. The weekend had gone by so quickly that it was as if it had not happened. The two weeks of private tutoring in school were finally over. I felt like a whole new person after what Yvonne had said to me. I also felt much better about joining the general population of high schoolers in the highschool. Before now, I had been getting individual teaching sessions with some teachers at school. To get me back on track, since I'd been missing school for half the year. I hadn't been in school since I met Nathan. I had totally forgotten everything from my life with my foster father. My mind flew to them. They wouldn't know I was here with Yvonne, either. I had woken up really early, feeling excited and a little nervous. It was my first time going to a school that was werewolf free. My previous school was the high school for the Exodus pack. So there were many werewolves there, both male and female. I got out of bed and took a shower, then changed into one of my new
FAYEI pushed open the big door and walked in. The hallway was extremely crowded and busy. Students stood at their lockers getting ready for class and talking with their friends. The pressure grew heavier in my chest and I took deep calming breaths to calm down. My eyes flitted around and I saw a map of the school on the wall. If I just walked straight ahead and took two rights, I would get to the principal's office.I clutched my backpack tightly by the shoulder and started walking. I bumped into a few people and muttered an apology to them before moving on. I got to the principal's office and knocked on the door."Come in." A voice answered from the other side.I pushed the door open and walked in."Hi." I squeaked out."You must be the new girl." The lady who I assumed was the secretary said."Yeah." I replied. She took out two papers and handed them to me, looking at my face all the while." You're finally taking the usual classes with your mates. These are a list of classes."
NATHANThe insomnia was really beginning to weigh on me. I felt tired and damn sleepy. I blinked multiple times to rid myself of the sleepiness. I sat behind my desk and stared at my computer screen. It was way past midnight and here I was, refusing to go back to the pack house and get a good night's sleep. That's because I couldn't get a fucking wink of sleep in that place. I had asked my assistant, Avril, to email me some files earlier before she left for the day and I had to go through them. I was working like I had some imaginary deal to complete with an investor or something else. Avril kept throwing me worried glances. She hadn't brought up the endless hours I spent here yet, even though I suspected she would soon. I could have easily done this tomorrow, but it wasn't as if I could go home and get some sleep. I was sure I'd have that fucking nightmare again. Every time I shut my eyes, I would see her. With the baby. And their eyes, fuck! I hated looking at anything slightly
