I flipped from one news channel to the other and things were much better than they were the last week. Since I told the world my wife was missing, it was like everywhere had been on fire.

Every news channel covered the story, and reporters called my office lines incessantly, wanting to see me.

Like how the vultures hovered near a carcass they'd been on me, persistent and determined to get something from me.

Avril had handled all the unwanted calls diligently, and I'd had some sort of peace in my office. Leaving work every day for the past week had been near hell. They always camped out front, the reporters asking for updates on my wife's missing case.

"We're waiting for news from the police on the matter." I had kept telling them.
