Chapter 62

After a few weeks of classes online, she was given an assignment that she had to turn in in person at Blair's fashion home.

Kate worked hard day and night and spent her last pennies buying materials for her assignments. She decided to make two new designs from her old book. She hadn't had any machines yet and so she had to make her sewing from school. She made two new friends. Royce McKnight, who had traveled on his truck from Kentucky, and Laura Kozinski, who stayed with her grandparents in one of the suburbs of New York.

During the weekend, Laura invited them to a friend’s birthday party. Kate felt she needed to unwind a little and only hoped Denzel would permit her, since she was on duty during the weekend. However, on the evening of the party, Denzel didn’t show up, and after several calls from Laura and Royce, Kate donned a party gown and dropped a note for Denzel.

Laura had driven Royce’s truck to a different side of town where the streets boomed with music.
