Chapter 110

Kate felt her breath returning to her slowly, and with a deep gasp, she opened her eyes. Three heads were looking down at her.

“Kate…” She recognized the voice of Collins. Then a soft hand touched hers. “Kate…we were so worried,” Michel said. The third person in the room only examined her briefly and exited the ward. Kate sat up, trying to remember the last thing that happened to her. The image of the nurse smiling sardonically came to her memory.

“A nurse was here…” she started. “She injected me and I became weak.”

Collins didn’t feel obligated to tell Kate what he knew.

“She’s an imposter,” Michel spoke.

“Why does she want me dead?” The thought of the lady’s face made her shudder frightfully. She couldn’t remember anything past that. Neither could she think of any lady that desperately wanted her dead.

Michel offered to get her something to eat while Collins examined her.

“The baby…” she started. “Do you think it survived?”

“The doctors were more concerned about saving your life.
