Chapter 3

Knight, unaware of the situation, sat on the wooden bench outside the Supreme Principal's office while facing the wall. He's been sitting there for almost twenty minutes and while he's in there. The announcement through Sevenths came.

A large piece of rook appeared above Boys and Girls Starlian University.

"Greetings dear participants of this great Starlian day." A deep-resonating voice said.

It was the voice of King Edluna.

"I thank you all for participating in this historic event.

You must be wondering why we must do something like this."

A large kilometers-wide barrier soon covered the entire school. The barrier separated the school from the outside, blocking anyone who wishes to enter the school grounds as well as those who wish to leave.

A projection in the heavens appeared showing the solar system.

"This is the place where the triumphants must go and retrieve this powerful gem of legend.

THE STARGEM."

A commotion soon started at the quadrangle upon hearing this proclamation about the Stargem which many do not believe to be true.

"The Stargem is located somewhere inside this forgotten planet called Earth. This examination is to determine who will be worthy to wear one of these rings."

A projection of the six rings soon appeared in a circle formation.

"Six rings, six bearers.

Each ring possesses the ability to enhance its bearer's power. One for fire, space, water, lightning, earth and wind.

Each of these element conjurers will face a task designed only for them. Each will have three tasks to accomplish.

Failing these tasks will result in your permanent elimination from the examination period. Those who'll stand victorious will be summoned for a banquet specifically prepared for them and will be rewarded with one of the six rings."

The rings slowly vanished from the sky a white tiara appeared with a beautiful ruby in the middle.

"The Princess Yuna Delphinium Starliege will also be present during the banquet and will choose one of the champions to dance with her on the royal ball."

No one has ever seen the Princess of Starlia. They only heard rumors about her but other than that, nothing more. The rumors say that she possesses a beauty no one in Starlia could ever rival. Dressed in a long glittering white gown, has a pair of blue eyes, white skin and anyone who goes near her is said to feel a warm and loving aura.

Princes across the 3 realms sought for her audience, but they were all rejected by her. She's mysterious and it drives many to find out more about her. She stayed inside the castle for sixteen years and never went out of the castle.

"May He who watches over us guides all of you to the path of victory." The Sevenths disappeared after King Edluna said these words.

Knight heard this proclamation while sitting inside the school, still thinking about why he's in there waiting to be summoned inside the sealed Supreme Principal's Office.

Inside the room was Lance and Beatrice, facing the Principal's seat who's currently observing outside the window while sitting.

"So, you're saying that a student from the lover section failed to receive the Appraisal Books information about his magic?" He asked the two in a deep voice.

No one has ever seen the Principal's face aside from Lance and Beatrice who's always summoned inside the room. Few of the faculty staff also know of his true appearance but are under strict order not to tell anyone.

"Yes, Supreme Principal." Lance answered. 

"Did you bring him with you?"

"He's currently outside. Shall I summon him in?" Beatrice asked.

"Please do so." 

"Understood." She walked towards the door and opened it.

The door opened and Beatrice told Knight to come in. When the boy stood up, he suddenly felt a sinister and black aura coming from the inside of the room. It was heavy and energy draining but it was immediately blocked by Knight's aura, a remarkable feat to do for an ordinary second year student of the university.

He entered the room and was welcomed by an applause from the person sitting on the chair facing the opposite direction towards the window.

"Beautifully done!" He complimented Knight who's still confused about all that is happening.

The chair turned to face them and he(Knight) was shocked to see what's before him.

A kid is sitting on the Supreme Principal's Chair?! 

No, the kid is the Supreme Principal?!

He was completely dumbfounded at what he's seeing and couldn't formulate a single word.

"Yes, I am a kid. Got a problem with that?" The kid- er, Principal asked the astonished student.

"Not at all - Sir!" He answered. 

"Please give the kid(Knight) a break Von." Beatrice requested Principal Von.

"Fine, fine." He changed his appearance into a mature version of him wearing a black suit.

"Stop drooling Beatrice." Lance jokingly said to the girl on his left. 

"In your dreams." She replied in an irritated tone.

"What just happened?" Knight asked. 

"He used his trans-" 

"Shut it!" SP Von cuts Lance's sentence.

"Ehem! I used my transformation ability to change my physical form." He explained.

"Now, on to our main topic. Those two behind you-" 

"We have names you know." Beatrice said in which he totally ignored.

"-told me what happened to the appraisal ceremony." He continued.

"About that, I was also confused to what happened back there." - Knight 

"The appraisal book gives the info of those who're worthy of its recognition. Its power level is 5 so a level higher than 5 shouldn't be using an appraisal book that's lower than his power level."

Lance and Beatrice were shocked after hearing this as well as Knight, their main topic.

"You know what I mean right?" He stood up and walked towards a bookshelf on his right and was searching for something.

"Your power is greater than a level 5. It's the reason why the appraisal book outside didn't give you your magical information. It deemed itself as unworthy to give you such information." He took a black book from the shelf and opened it.

The book began to float towards Knight and turned to a page with a right hand trace and a black page on the left.

"Put your hand on the tracing and find out the information about your magic." SP Von told him. 

The other two inside the room closely observe what's going to happen next.

Knight slowly lifted his right hand and had second thoughts whether to put his hand over the book or not. Even so, he's also curious about his power so he gathered his thoughts and courage to do this.

The black book is releasing a bright warm glow and is patiently waiting for him to make his move.

Lance is secretly rooting for Knight and Beatrice's trying to hold her laughter.

Knight laid his hand over the book and the radiating glow stopped. They waited patiently for what would happen.

A weak and cold air was felt by Von but there's no open windows or doorways for the wind to enter. Soon the wind got stronger and began to violently surround Knight.

"Do not remove your hand from the book!" Von shouted while struggling to fight the strong wind.

Books began to fall from the bookshelves and bond papers scattered on the floor while the others followed the current of the wind.

"What is happening?!" Beatrice asked while struggling to keep her skirt down and hair from being messy.

"The book is now calculating his magic power!" Lance answered.

"Impossible." Von saw someone other than Knight.

He saw a projection of a man behind him wearing a white robe. It was assisting Knight controlling his powers and he immediately noticed the Starlight Emblem on the man's left chest. The starlight emblem is the highest award given to the ranks of the Starlian Military.

It's higher than that of a Nine-Star, the highest ranking currently recorded in history. He heard of no such Starlian that ever received the Starlight Emblem.

But in front of him is the spirit of someone wearing the Starlight Emblem.

"A Hero." He uttered.

"A Hero's Soul is inside this young man's body?"

The man smiled at him and the violently spinning wind that surrounds Knight's body stopped. He looked at them, clearly in awe of what just occurred.

The three continued to look at the book and can't understand what they're seeing. Knight who noticed their shocked expressions looked at the book and was also shocked by what he saw.

"What the hell are you?" Von asked Knight while still in a state of shock. The other two at his back were also looking at him and were clearly asking the same question inside their head.

[Some Information]

Sevenths - A magical device designed and configured by the Seven Heroes. It's used for mass communication and its range may vary depending on the magical capacity of the caster. Sevenths do not require any object or device to summon, but it needs great concentration and mana. Upon successful summoning, it will take the form of a rook (one of the six chess pieces).

Seven - A smaller version of Sevenths and requires a solid copy of the rook that the Seveths take as a form. It is made in a magical crystal that can be found at District 13 (to be described soon in the following chapters) of Starliege.
