Chapter 5

Author: June Nile
What did it feel like to be cremated?

I felt like no one would have more of a right to answer that question than Louis… Unless they wanted to be cremated alive too, maybe.

"Hello ma'am. Here are the different plans we've got." The staff handed me a pamphlet as she introduced the contents by memory. "We have the regular plan, the advanced plan, the luxury plan, and the rocket plan. I do need to let you know that the regular plan uses traditional methods and equipment, meaning that our staff would have to flip the corpse with a hook throughout the entire process, so it might not be the best for the body."

That was honestly the one I wanted to pick. Nothing would suit him more than being burned alive while being rotated by a hook!

On the off chance that he woke up immediately because of the pain, however, the consequences would be annoying to handle, to say the least, so I gave up.

In the end, I tapped at the pamphlet. "Let's go with the rocket plan."

I didn't really care about the newest technologies they employed or their funeral package, but I liked that they'd turn the ashes into fireworks. It'd be quite the fitting sight for a celebration, wouldn't it?

"Gosh, you've got quite the eye, ma'am!" The staff smiled brightly and proceeded to let me sign the contract. "For the sake of letting you take a picture with the fireworks, we suggest you carry out the process of cremation at night."

However, I didn't have that much time, so I lowered my head sadly. "Morning will do… I'll take these fireworks and keep them at home. I'm planning on setting these fireworks off once my child is eighteen years old, as a final gift their father gave for becoming an adult.

"That way, my child will know how much their father loved them…"

"Goodness, sweetheart, I'm so sorry…" Seeing me reach down to caress my abdomen, the staff even changed the way she addressed me out of pity.

I turned my face to look outside the window and sighed, trying my best to stop myself from smiling. "It's alright. Just help me get things arranged as soon as possible."

That was because, under the white cloth, Louis' finger twitched a few more times.

The greatest benefit of picking the rocket package, in actuality, was that I didn't need to wait in line.

As Louis was pushed into the cremator, I started to sob again. "My dear, you've always worked so hard for money, so please don't worry about it anymore in the afterlife!"

The staff all commented on how a good wife I was, and even gave me the opportunity to press the button to activate the cremation myself.

"Goodbye, honey."

Have a fun time burning in there, you deserve it!

However, I hadn't managed to press it before Lily's voice rang out from behind me. "Stop right there, you psycho!"

She stumbled into the room, visibly panicked from the current situation, while Johnny came in after her, panting as he tried to catch his breath.

"Luna, how could you bring him here to be cremated without permission?!"

Hah, he was trying to pin the blame on me.

Judging from the looks the staff members were giving me, it was starting to work.

"Well, you two passed out because you were too sad, so I couldn't do anything but come here by myself. Besides, weren't you the ones who were insistent on having him cremated soon?" There was no hesitation or anxiety in my words, and my tears flowed down my cheeks naturally. "Besides, I did question your brother's death, but you didn't allow me to make a police report…"

At this point, the staff members were probably already having a blast at this scene.

Hearing this, Johnny changed his expression drastically. "Hey, don't say that! Mom and I just thought that we didn't need to trouble the police any further, since they've passed the verdict!"

When I heard this, my expression became even more saddened. "Then why can't I cremate him?

"No way… Can he still be saved?"

"Got it, thank you Mel." Hearing what she said sounded the alarm bells in my brain. Lily must have planned early on to get insurance money if anything happened to me, and now that the company was transferred to her, Johnny, and Lorraine's names, they'd be forced into the corner the moment the court found them.I wouldn't be surprised if they did anything drastic. After some thought, I decided to figure out the password to Louis' offshore account, then move somewhere far away and start my life afresh. That being said, a short six-digit password was going to be the death of me. I tried Louis' birthday, Lily's, Johnny's, Lorraine's, our dog's… I even checked his entire family register for three generations, and none of the passwords were correct."Lulu, maybe you should go at it from another angle?" Melissa advised over the phone. "Why haven't you tried your own?"I scoffed. "Because it's impossible that it's mine, of course!""But aren't things always like that? People always s

"My son!""Brother!""Louis!"With a high-pitched screech, Lily passed out on the spot. Johnny and Lorraine, on the other hand, started to push at the bodyguards even harder, but to no avail. One of the staff members was watching together with me, and made a well-placed comment, "Miss, that's a very common reaction bodies have when being cremated, so don't be afraid.""He's the person I loved the most, so why would I be afraid?" I said, feigning a saddened sigh. "Rest in peace, darling.""Luna, how could you?!""I hope you get hit by a car the moment you leave this place, and then get your innards eaten by a dog!" Johnny finally tore off the civilized facade he was wearing, and started cursing at me with all his heart. "Any baby a monster like you gives birth to is going to be deformed!""Johnny, this is your brother's flesh and blood…" I turned around and looked at him with a saddened expression, which was helpfully captured on the phone of one of the helpful netizens who ha

The people watching online immediately went into a frenzy after hearing what Lorraine said. Flooding the chat with comments about her being a mistress was a given, while others doxed her, calling her phone directly. On top of that, a hacker managed to hack into her live video feed, shouting at her directly."You shameless woman! How could you be so self-righteous about stealing someone's husband? Society nowadays has progressed too much! Someone like you should be burned on a stake!"At the same time, Lily and Johnny's phone numbers were leaked too, and they started being spammed with calls. The streamers who Lorraine had brought with her all scattered away from her as if she had the plague. "You told us how bad she was, but you were the mistress after all! Don't drag us and our accounts into this!"Even some netizens who happened to live nearby came in with rubbish and spoiled eggs, throwing them at Lorraine. Finally, Lorraine seemed to have completely given up on acting altoget

In my past life, I would've already broken down at this point, but this sort of thing was nothing for someone who's already died once. What, did they think they were the only ones who could shed crocodile tears and captivate the social justice warriors?Had they forgotten that I graduated from performing arts? They had picked the wrong opponent, honestly!"Lorraine, please open your eyes…" Immediately, I slumped onto the floor weakly, and the heartache was palpable in my voice. "Is telling everyone all about what you did… The only way to make you stop?""What do you mean?!" Lorraine became nervous, but seemed to compose herself, confident in how well she had hidden her relationship with Louis. "Listen here, I can sue you for slander!"I scoffed under my breath. Using words properly was bread and butter for an emcee, after all, and I knew that the less I said out loud, the more people would fill in their blanks with their own imaginations.Lucky for me, everyone noticed how Lorr

"O-Of course not!" Johnny stuttered, almost uttering the truth, his face flushed a bright shade of red. He was the one who had signed the certification of death, after all, so if he said anything else, he'd be locked up immediately for forging medical certificates. That's when Lily chimed in, "What, can't I see my son one last time and talk with him?"As she talked, she started moving towards the cremator."That's right, we just miss him, that's all!" Johnny nodded, and it was as if he'd run a mile from the way he broke out in cold sweat. Evidently, he'd almost burned out his internal processors trying to think of a proper excuse in the past few seconds."Mom, Johnny, please don't cause a ruckus here… I know that you're worried that you won't get your original dividends from the company because Louis died, but…" I stopped them quickly, putting on a tired expression. "I promise you'll only get more after this, alright…?"Of course, not in the form of money.Once the staff heard
