Chapter 5

The next two days Janette spends most of her time in school and her mother’s restaurant taking care of customers and visiting Michelle at the hospital after closing from the restaurant, she was happy that Jackson hasn’t come around to torment her, at least not yet and Sol has been a great and supporting boyfriend. The only problem was her parents. They couldn’t stop pressurising her to sign the papers. They’re running out of time for her sister’s surgery. For the past two days Janette would seat on her bed with tears streaming down her eyes as she scanned through the papers. Aren’t marriage certificate s’posed to be signed before a lawyer and witnesses or something? She thought.

On Wednesday afternoon Janette sat at the back of the class as usual with Margaret, and suddenly a man in his late twenties trudged into the class, interrupting the lecturer. The moment Janette saw him, she recognized him, Michael, one of Jackson's body guards. She hurriedly slight under the desk with her head between Margaret's legs.

“Jan, what the hell, you wanna eat me? Why didn’t you just say so?” Margaret whispered, dropping her head to face. Janette understands the desk.

Janette rolled her eyes heavenward and said; “ya wish.”

“Ms. Johnson!” The lecturer called, drawing the ladies’ attention,

“Ms. Johnson? Where’s Ms. Johnson?” He asked directly to Margaret, and she shrugged her shoulders. Janette hissed and slowly came out of her hiding place. “What are you doing under the desk, Ms. Johnson?”

“She was eating me out.” Margaret said and turned to look at Janette with her famous sly grin. The entire class erupted with laughter. Mr. Stephen paid no attention to her as he turned to look at Michael beside him.

“I guess this is the Janette ya are looking for?” Michael nodded his head, staring directly at Janette from the back of the class. “Well, Ms. Johnson, this man is here to see. I’m giving you fifteen minutes to return to class.” Janette tilted her head, glancing at Janette, who seemed to be liking the whole thing. Meticulously, Janette stood up and walked out of the classroom with Michael following closely behind her, he led her to the parking lot and then paused close to a white Lamborghini Sian Roadsters, sighing, she peep in through the window, it was empty and a frown passed over her face.

She turned to face Michael, only to see another lady standing beside him. “Why are you here and who’s she?”

“Ma’am, the boss sent us to bring the car to you. I’ll be your driver from today and Anna here will be making sure you eat good food, meaning she’s your chef. She’ll be preparing all your meals. The boss said he doesn't like the way you look.”

Janette glared at him and muttered, “tell him I don’t need a car. I don’t want to draw people’s attention please and also tell him I don’t need a chef. I can cook my food.” Janette can’t cook, but that’s fine.

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but said we should always stay with you and protect you. Anna must taste all your food before you eat them and we will be your classmates from today.”

“Sorry ma’am, seem ya are stuck with us until ya graduate.” Anna said, speaking for the first time.

“You all are unbelievable,” she turned and walked away but Michael and Anna followed her, Janette opened the classroom door and walked in and they both followed her, surprised, Janette turned to look at them with fury, all eyes were on them including the lecturer. “What are ya both doing?” She whispered to them and tilted her head to look at the lecturer with a fake smile.

“We weren’t joking when we said we’re now your classmates, the boss had paid us and the school.” Michael muttered, smiling at her.

“Yes ma’am, we’re just doing our work.”

Janette was happy seeing all the seat beside her where occupied, she sat down and looked at them smiling wickedly, Michael moved closer to the two guys sitting next to her and whispered something to them, they guy quickly stood up with fear on their faces and she pondered what he said to them that got them scared. Anna looked at Janette and returned the wicked smile before sitting on the empty seat.

“Are we in trouble or something?” Margaret asked, whispering in Janette's eyes.

Janette nodded and glanced at her. “They’re Jackson’s bodyguards.” Margaret frowned for a moment and peeped at Anna, then Michael.

“What are they doing here?”

“Well, seem am stuck with them for the rest of my life,” she mused and glared at Michael first, then Anna beside her. “Jackson sent Michael as my driver and Anna... I don’t even know.” Margaret's eyes beamed with excitement.

“You now own a car and a driver... and a bodyguard, too.” She yelled. For a moment, she forgot she was in class.

“Mag, keep your voice down.”

“Ms. Harry, what was the noise all about?” Mr. Stephen asked. He looked over his shoulder, glaring at Margaret.

“I’m sorry sir,” she apologized and then turned to look at Janette, who has her head down on the table. “Goodness, if I grow up I’ll to be like you Jan.” She looks past Janette’s back, glancing at Anna and then wink at her. A frown passed over Ann’s face for a moment. She quickly sober up and winked back, making Margaret giggle.

She dropped her head on the table with her month closed to Janette's ears and whispered. “Your bodyguard is so cute.”

Janette shook her head and asked, “which one?”

“The lady, she’s hot.”

“Sometimes I wonder if you are gay, straight or bisexual.” Margaret glanced at Anna again and whispered to Janette.

“All of them.” Janette shook her head disappointedly and raised her head to face the lecturer."well, I’ll not be surprised if ya call our neighbor’s dog hot, too.”

Janette and Margaret strolled down the long hallway, with Michael and Anna following them behind. Sol appeared from nowhere, gracing them with his presence. He ran to hug Janette but Michael was quick to stop him; he held him by the collar like a child and pulled him away.

“Hey, hey, stop that he’s my boyfriend.” Janette yelled, hitting Michael’s calloused hand. Margaret went to stand beside Anna, flirting with her. She reached her hand to Ann’s short hair and packed some between her fingers, smiling at her seductively. She moved her nose closer, perceiving the sweet scent from Ann’s hair.

“Hmm, smells nice. What oil do ya use?” Anna chuckled, shaking her head, but said nothing.

When Michael released Sol from his grip, he quickly apologized to Janette. “I’m awfully sorry, ma’am, the boss said we shouldn’t allow anyone to touch you.” He moved back with his strong gaze on Sol.

“Well, he’s not just anyone, he’s my boyfriend.” Michael reluctantly nodded and went to stand beside Anna and Margaret.

“I’m sorry Sol. Are ya okay?” She asked, reaching for his neck. Sol, who was still hyperventilating and massaging his sore neck, mutely nodded to her and glared at Michael, who seemed not to be bothered.

“Who’s this crazy guy? He almost chokes me to death,” He muttered, wrapping his right arm around her shoulder as they walked down to the open field.

Sol sat down, leaning his back to the large oak tree, and Janette sat between his open legs, leaning on his chest. Margaret, Anna, and Michael sat down on the grass facing them. “I ordered pizza and pumpkins.” Sol told them with his arms wrapped around Janette’s shoulders.

“Did you order chocolate ice cream too?” She turned to look at him in anticipation and a smile scattered on her face when he nodded. Anna mutely stood up and walked away. Margaret turned to Michael, looking at him inquisitively. “Where’s going to?” Janette asked. That has been gnawing in Margaret’s mind.

“She’ll be back soon, ma’am.”

“Can you please call me Janette?” Michael shook his head in protestation.

“I can’t call you with your name, ma’am. The boss will cut my tongue off.”

Sol hissed, rolling his eyes. “So bossy,” he muttered under his breath, smelling Janette's long brunette hair.

“Ya said something?” Michael asked, making a fist with his right hand.

Sol quickly shook his head in denial. “No, no, of course not.”

Few minutes later Anna returns with an enormous bag dropping it at the middle, she settled down beside Margaret and reached for the bag. Margaret Jew dropped as she stared at the varieties of food before her. She swallowed hard and turned to look at Anna. “aren’t you amazing?”

“I know I am dear.” Margaret giggled, wrapping her arms around Anna. Anna slowly pulled her away and turned to look at Janette. “Boss said I should bring ya the food.” She doesn’t like Jackson, but seeing all the dishes gave her another kind of joy.

Anna tested the food first before giving them permission to eat. They watched as the Janette, Margaret and So ate the food like ‘twas their last supper.

“The boss wants us to poison ya.” Michael told Sol, smiling down at him. Shocked, Sol paused with the food in his month staring at Janette solemnly. He looked like he was about to cry. Anna and Margaret laughed heartily, holding their stomach,

“D-did you poison the food?” Janette asked, slowly dropping the plate on the ground.

“Not all, only the one your boyfriend is eating,” Michael answered with all seriousness.

After Anna sobered up from her laughter, she said. “It’s not true ma’am, Michael is only joking.”

“Aren’t you ashamed, eating food given to your girlfriend by her husband?” Michael shook his head and turned to look at the field.

Janette glared at him, shoving the food in her month. After she successfully swallowed it, she said, “Michael, I won’t have you disrespect my boyfriend. We didn’t beg your boss for food.” But she did not stop eating it. She took another full spoon, shoving it all in her mouth.

Michael stared at Sol for a few seconds and then glanced at Janette. “I’m sorry ma’am.”

“I told you...” she coughed. Sol quickly took the bottle of water on the grass, opened it, and gave it to her. Janette smiled appreciatively at him, drank the water, and began. “I told you to stop calling me ma’am in school.”

“I’m sorry ma’am, I mean Jan... Janette.”

After the last class for the day, Janette ran out of the room. Michael sat down in his seat, smiling at her silliness. Anna immediately stood up, walking to the door with Margaret following beside her. “So,” Margaret said, holding her hand. “My place or yours?” Anna tilted her head and looked at her, confusingly. She chuckled, “I mean, do ya want us to go to my place?”

“What for?” Anna asked ignorantly. They shuffled their way through the crowded hallway and followed the path leading to the school gate. “For fun,” Margaret muttered, and went to stand in front of her, blocking her way. “I don’t do fun. I’m here to work. Do ya mind if I pass?” Margaret frowned at her, pouting her lips.

“You’re no fun,” Anna carefully pushed her to the side and walked down to the gate, removing her leather jacket. Margaret refused to give up. She followed her to the parking lot where they met Michael holding Janette by the hand and Sol standing beside them. Margaret ran to the car, scrutinizing it with a big smile on her face. “Dehm, Jan, is this your f**king ride?” Janette ignored her friend as she continues glaring at Michael, struggling to release her hand from his firm grip.

“Please Michael, let me go.” She gave up trying to release her hand and pleaded, looking at him with puppy eyes.

“I’m sorry, ma’am, I can’t let you go. The boss said I should bring you to his house after school.” Janette sighed heavily and glanced at Sol. “Okay, but can my friends ride with us?”

“I’m afraid not, he said, to bring you alone.”

Anna turned and walked away and Margaret ran after her. Obviously Anna was getting irritated but tried to maintain her temper because Margaret happens to be Janette's friend. She suddenly stopped walking and paused. Margaret ran into her, hitting her nose. She held her red nose and glared at Anna. “why did you do that?”

“Why are you following me?”

“Well, is obvious that I like you and I need a ride home.” She looked past Anna’s shoulder to the red spot car behind her.

“Go back and ride with your friend.” Anna said and turn to leave.

“You’re mean.” Margaret yelled to her and strode back to meet the rest.

She wondered, if we have people with these kind of riches and living in houses like these; why then do we still have poor people?
