Chapter 5

"Edward… what's wrong with you? D-Do you have a problem? Did something happen to you at work?" Calista asked him in surprise.

Calista knew that there was absolutely no reason for him to get angry or raise his voice.

Edward shook his head, noticing that he seemed to have overreacted. "S-Sorry. Um… yeah, you're right there's just a problem at work.” Edward excused himself.

"What happened?"

“We just did a lot. There are a lot of complaining patients…we can't do anything but fix their concerns..." explained Edward.

Calista nodded. " I understand. Sorry I kept you waiting last night. Um—”

"You don't need to apologize, Calista. And...it seems like you and your ex-husband have made up. So... I'm happy for you." Edward smiled slightly, even though inside he was annoyed.

Calista smiled a little. "You're right, I decided to get back together with him. Um… I realized that being separated from each other is not healthy for us. Maybe it's like that when you love someone so much, you are ready to forget the pain that he caused you for the sake of a new beginning.”

Calista's words appeared to be squeezing Edward's heart. He also nodded in agreement with Calista. "Indeed. If you truly love someone, why not give him another chance, right?"

Calista noticed that something was bothering Edward but she chose to ignore it. She merely nodded.

"By the way... it's not because Nicolas and I got back together that I'm going back to the mansion. would you mind if I stayed here first?"

Edward was quiet, somehow, he was still happy because Calista didn't leave him right away. “O-Of course. Even this apartment is yours now Calista. I bought it for you.”

Calista felt guilty all of a sudden... "Um Edward... I will save up and pay you later."

“No…No.” Edward came and touched her cheek. "I won't expect payment in exchange for all I give you."

Calista was unable to move, but she knew deep down that she would pay for it. She felt terrible about it. However, she was aware that Nicolas would not be comfortable with such a system between the two of them.

After their conversation, Calista returned to the apartment. At that time, she felt a mixture of joy and sadness. She wants to be with Nicolas again, but she doesn't want to leave Edward because of his kindness to her.

After a while, she eventually got a message from Nicolas.

"I'll pick you up at seven o'clock. We both have somewhere to go."

Calista frowned but was mixed with excitement. "Is that a date?" she replied.

"If you let me take you out on a date."

Cecile grinned. "You must persuade me, Mr. Bridgerfield...”

Soon Nicolas called her. She picked up the phone without hesitation.

"Come on. I want to make it up to your beautiful lady. I know we didn't get along well at first, but I want to start courting again. If you will allow me to court you?”

Calista sneered. “Bridgerfield 's lover is just an ordinary girl…”

"You're special to me, Calista. Even if it takes a year before I get your trust again...I'll wait."

Calista was silent, the phone was still against her ear. "I love you." That's all She said.

"I love you so much. —So, wait for me tonight, okay?”

Calista smiled. “Okay.”

Nicolas happily put down his phone.

Calista went to work happily because she knew Nicolas would pick her up tonight. The only thing on her mind is that her boss, Gianna Venin, might find out and feel affected by her work. But she knows Nicolas won't let that happen, she knows Nicolas's power over women especially when it comes to work.

"Hi, Calista, the charm you bring is different today." Ali greeted her.

Calista's smile never goes away, maybe that's the result of what happened last night with Nicolas. "Come on, Ali. I just woke up feeling great." she replied that her smile still hasn't disappeared.

"Ahuh, maybe you were...um um last night?" Ali asked.

"What?" she chuckled.

"Come on, who is that? Is it the handsome Doctor?”

"No. You know what Ali. Let's go back to work or our manager will yell at us again."

Ali slightly tickled Calista's waist because of her hanging stories. Calista just shook her head and continued her work.

After setting down his pen, Nicolas turned some signed documents aside.

"Okay, it's all settled. I'm heading out early since I have an important date tonight." Nicolas said happily as Kevin frowned and so did Gianna.

"A date?" Gianna's reaction.

"Yes. A special date.” Nicolas answered confidently.

"Don't you dare tell me it's—"

"Yes, Kevin. And I have to get back her trust again. I don't want to disappoint her."

Gianna rolled her eyes. "What a lucky girl."

Nicolas looked at Gianna and remembered that she had a connection with Calista. "Um...can we talk for a moment?"

Gianna came to a halt and grinned, thinking she might be the person Nicolas was referring to as his special date. "Sure."

"Alright. I'm leaving first." Kevin got up and left the conference first

"So… you can invite me directly… you don't need to—-"

“That girl," Nicolas interjected.

Gianna scowls.

"That clumsy but perfect girl. She is my date tonight. I need to talk to you because I want you to do me a favor so that her work won't be affected because of her relationship with me."

Gianna couldn't speak because of her shock, but it was clear from the look on her face that she was disappointed. "Did I hear correctly? Are you asking me for a favor not to affect her work just because she's dating you?"

Nicolas looked at him directly.

"And who am I to follow what you say, Nicolas Bridgerfield?"

Nicolas rolled his eyes. "You need me in business. So, you have to follow me.”

“You know what kind of bullshit you are.”

"Say whatever you want to say. But you signed the contract. My relationship with Calista has nothing to do with her work with you."

"But I can't promise that she won't have problems in her work. I am her boss and she has to follow my orders." Gianna stated bluntly that she looks to have a horrible plan for Calista.

Nicolas gave her a serious look. He got up and walked up to Gianna.

Gianna glanced at him with the appearance that Nicolas was making her feel weak. She also took a close look at Nicolas's Adams apple and almost reached out to touch it.

"When I find out that you touched Calista, I will fight you myself." Nicolas said.

Gianna swallowed hard. She still doesn't know what relationship Nicolas has with that girl. And that's what she needs to know.
