I waited until he was gone before exhaling. My hands were shaking. I folded them into fists and tried to steady my hand. This was going to be harder than I thought. If I wanted to save the pack, if I wanted to save Zel, I had to convince Ronan that I was truly on his side.

I wondered how Zel was doing. If she was well and if she was being fed.

The days that followed were like torture. Ronan would visit me, discussing his plans for the pack. He would share his twisted visions for the future. I listened carefully, nodding in all the right places.

I even offered small suggestions that seemed helpful. The first time I gave him advice that worked, he was taken aback.
