The moment I arrived at the lab, I knew something was off.

It was supposed to be a pharmaceutical facility—a lab, not a military base. But the amount of armed security stationed around the perimeter? Heavy-duty. Tactical. Coordinated. It was a fortress.

I clicked the comm on my shoulder.

“Call for backup. This isn’t going to be easy to invade alone.”

Within minutes, Marcus and my men arrived. I didn’t waste time.

“Marcus,” I said, keeping my voice sharp. “Did you deploy someone to pick up the old woman?”

“Yes, sir. She’s en route to headquarters.”

“Good.”

I turned toward the entrance of the lab.

“Let’s move.”

We stormed the building—guns drawn, formation tight. The guards were caught off guard, clearly not expecting a full-on raid. We subdued them quickly. Clean and efficient.

Inside, the place was cold, and daunting. It smelled of bleach and chemicals.

I walked into the main operating room and sat on the nearest chair.

“Who’s in charge here?” I asked, my voi

He started talking the moment the offer left my lips—his words spilling out like floodwaters from a broken dam. “I was working for him long before I started working for you,” Damon said, his voice hoarse, unsteady. “He... he saved me. I can’t even remember when it began. One day, I just started having these unbearable headaches—pounding, violent. It felt like my brain was cracking open. I was losing control.” His cuffed hands trembled violently. Sweat glistened on his temples, trailing down the curve of his jaw. “I started hearing things… seeing things. Paranoia took over. I’d black out and come to in places I didn’t recognize. Then one day—he appeared. Like he knew I needed help. He said he could fix it. Took me to a doctor, promised they’d make something just for me. A pill to silence the madness.” He paused for breath, voice cracking under the weight of memory. “Since then, I’ve taken one pill a year. Always on June 16th. He told me that was enough to keep it in check. Lat

Marcus stood waiting near the end of the corridor, arms folded, eyes sharp. “He talked?” he asked. I gave a tight nod. “Just enough.” “The black ring and dragon tattoo?” “Yeah.” I looked at Marcus. “Find every known criminal, agent, mercenary, and ghost in the underground with a dragon tattoo and a black ring. I want a list by tonight.” “Yes, sir.” “And Marcus—” I added, stopping as I reached him. “Double the security. If this masked bastard is watching, he’ll know Damon’s alive. And he’ll want him dead before he says too much.” Marcus’s jaw tightened. “Understood.” I walked past him, down the hall and into the war room. The lights inside flickered to life as I entered. I sat down heavily, opened the folder labeled “B-67 Blacklist,” and began scanning. It had been over a week since I left Dexy City—since I left Bella. I’d promised her I wouldn’t be gone too long, yet here I was. “Still nothing?” I asked Marcus without looking up from the intel sprawled out across

Bella’s POV Julius stared at me, his expression twisted somewhere between disbelief and desperation. “Bella, I swear—I never tried to kill you,” he said, voice low, trembling. “Yes, I was furious. I hated that you chose Jesse. I hated that you killed Athena’s child… but that doesn’t mean I’d want you dead. That wasn’t me.” I took a shaky step back, eyes narrowing. “Then how do you explain the evidence? The doctor’s visits. The prescriptions. The text messages between you and the lab technicians—Jesse showed me everything.” He froze. “What?” “The poison wasn’t quick. You wanted it slow. You wanted me to suffer, Julius,” I whispered, the lump in my throat thickening. “Don’t insult me by lying.” “I didn’t,” he rasped. “Bella, I’ve done terrible things. I’ve manipulated. I’ve controlled. But I’ve never lied to you. And I didn’t try to kill you. You know that, deep down.” I stared at him in silence. My heart was pounding so hard I could barely breathe. “So who was in those p

“I’ll pack my things and leave,” I said quietly, though the weight behind my words felt anything but soft. “There’s no reason to keep chasing revenge, Jesse. Julius has already lost the one thing he’s spent his whole life building. That’s enough for me. Let’s just stop… before we lose more.”I watched him carefully, hoping—praying—that something in his face would shift. That he’d soften, that he’d agree, that he’d finally let go of all this darkness. But Jesse only stared at me, eyes cold and unreadable. “If leaving is what you want, then leave,” he said, his voice like ice. “But this revenge? It doesn’t end here. Not for me. I haven’t even started.”My breath caught in my throat, but he wasn’t finished.“And Bella…” he added, his voice dipping even lower, sharper. “If you get in my way… I won’t hesitate to destroy you too.”It felt like the air had been knocked out of my chest. My heart broke right there, quietly, without drama—just a slow, hollow ache that settled deep in my bones.

Julius – POVRage. It hit me like a storm, flooding every corner of my mind, drowning every other thought.I grabbed my phone and called Paul.“Track Athena’s location. Now.”“Yes, sir.”I didn’t have the patience to wait. I was already storming toward the elevator when Paul called back.“She’s at the downtown penthouse.”Perfect.I jumped into my car and drove like a man possessed. The moment I reached the building, I marched past the front desk, straight to the elevator, and punched in the code to her floor. The penthouse door required a password—I still remembered it from when I used to come here more often than I’d like to admit. It clicked open. I pushed the door in with force.“Athena!” I barked, stepping into the living room.Silence.No response.“Athena!” I shouted louder this time, moving through the hallway like a wave of fury. I pushed open her bedroom door—and there she was. Reclining on the bed, phone to her ear, silk robe hanging loose like she didn’t have a care in the

Jesse's POVJulius. Oh, Julius.I wasn’t going to destroy him quickly—no, that would be far too merciful. A man like him, who wore arrogance like cologne, needed something slower. Something precise. I wanted him to feel the unraveling before it ever reached him. I wanted him to watch his empire rot from the inside out, powerless to stop it.So I started where it would hurt the most. Not with his company. With his friends.Nelson Hargrove and Arnold Dane. His golden boys. His day-one circle. His “brothers.” They had built the playground with him. Dined in his penthouse. Celebrated victories with champagne on private yachts. And just like him, they had skeletons buried under designer suits. The first one to fall was Nelson.Nelson thought he was clever. A quiet little laundering operation through a subsidiary of his father’s logistics company. Rounded invoices. Fake vendor accounts. Padded expense reports. It wasn’t flashy—it was discreet. Boring, even. But to me, boring was beautiful.

Julius PovI slammed my fist against the table, jaw tight. In just one day, both of my closest allies—Nelson and Arnold—were dragged into the dirt. Not even twenty-four hours had passed, and it was already making headlines.Nelson. Arrested for embezzlement. My CFO. My right hand for almost a decade. And Arnold... Arnold had always been reckless, but this time Jesse lit the match. Exposed him publicly for cheating on Diana—daughter of Senator Ward. And not just cheating. Recorded calls. Leaked hotel check-ins. Even a damn voice memo of him saying Diana was “just a means to get closer to power.”The media went insane.Paul.“Paul!” I shouted, standing from my chair. He ran in within seconds, adjusting his glasses, sweating like a dog. “Yes, sir?”“Tell me you’ve talked to the media houses.”“I have, sir. I offered deals to every major outlet. Exclusive access, partnerships, financial coverage... They all refused.”“What?” I stared at him. “Refused? Who the hell refuses that kind of mon

Julius POVMy phone rang just moments after Jesse’s call ended. I saw the name flash on the screen and felt my chest tighten.Grandfather.I braced myself before answering."You brat!" his voice barked the moment I picked up. "I’m at your penthouse. Come back home this instant!"My heart skipped. I straightened my shoulders instinctively, quickly adjusting my tone and energy. He couldn’t find out what was going on. Not now. His health was fragile, and even the smallest amount of stress could be fatal."I’m on my way, Grandfather," I said quickly.By the time I reached the penthouse, he was already seated in the living room like a king on his throne. Despite his age and health, he still had the kind of presence that could silence a room."Grandfather," I greeted, forcing a lightness into my voice. "You're here."He gave me a stern look. "Of course I’m here. Where is Bella? Has she still not forgiven you?"I looked down. "No… not yet."He shook his head with a sigh. "You need to try har

Chemical-induced psychosis.Someone had been feeding Reza a micro-dose of hallucinogenic toxins over the last year—strong enough to twist her mind without killing her.Only one family had the kind of expertise needed to pull it off perfectly, without detection. The Elmore family.Anna.I slammed the file shut, my fury cold and precise.“She’s not working with a ghost,” I said.“She’s just another broken toy.”Kael nodded grimly. “Anna used her. Planted the fear. Fed her the stories. Made her believe she was part of something bigger.”"And when she was done with her?"Kael’s expression hardened. "She left her to rot in her own madness."Later that night, I returned to the dungeon alone.Reza was curled on the floor now, muttering to herself. She didn’t even look up when I entered.I stood there for a long time, watching her.She had betrayed me.She had tried to weaken the Empire. But somehow, staring at her now, I didn’t feel hatred. Gasps echoed through the room. One of the councilmen stood in panic. But before she could move, Kael was already there—steel against her wrist, slamming her to the ground with a precision honed in blood. The blade clattered to the floor.Reza let out a sharp breath, rage etched into every line of her face.“Dominion is already lost,” she hissed, spitting the words like poison. “You think you’ve won, girl. But you don’t even know the real plan.”I stepped forward, eyes locked on hers.“Then speak,” I said coldly. “Before I decide your death should come quicker than your trial.”She laughed then—low and bitter. Not the laugh of someone defeated. The laugh of someone who knew what was still coming. My pulse slowed. Tightened.“Who?”Reza’s eyes gleamed.“The one even your uncle feared.” She leaned closer, whispering like it tasted good to say it.“Cyrus.”I stared at her.“ Cyrus is the real move. And he’s already begun.”I didn’t blink. “What has he started?”She refused to speak any lo

He walked beside me as we moved toward the armored vehicle waiting beyond the runway.“We’ve reestablished order in the outer provinces. The council is restless but compliant. Your presence alone has stabilized the unrest.” He paused. “Your uncle’s name hasn’t been spoken in weeks. He’s in hiding.”The gates of the Dominion estate swung open.As I stepped out of the car, the familiar scent of power, blood, and memory greeted me like an old friend.Guards lined the entrance.Servants bowed.Kael stood at my side as the heavy doors opened. We hadn’t been inside the main hall for five minutes before I turned to Kael.“Set up a meeting with the council. Now.”Kael didn’t hesitate. He nodded once and slipped out the corridor without a word.An hour later, the great chamber doors opened.Every member of the Dominion council stood or sat stiffly in their appointed seats—lined in gold, trimmed in pride. Some of them tried not to look surprised. Others stared at me like I’d returned from the g

He didn’t rise.Didn’t speak again. He just stayed there, silent on the floor, as I turned and walked away.I hadn’t spoken to Daniel since everything happened. And I knew I had no right to expect anything now.Still, I pressed call.He picked up after two rings.“Bella?”His tone was flat. Cold.“Daniel, I need to talk to you. Can you come to my penthouse?”Silence. Then: “You’ve got to be kidding me.”I blinked. “What?”“You ignore my calls for months. You vanish. You ghost me. You ghost him. And now you’re calling out of nowhere like nothing happened?”I closed my eyes. “I know—”“No, you don’t,” he snapped. “Do you know how many times I tried reaching out to you after Jesse disappeared? I thought maybe you were hurting too. I thought maybe we could piece something together—anything. But you disappeared.”“Daniel—”“Do you know what it felt like watching the engagement headlines?” he said, voice rising. “First yours. Then his. You left. And now you want what? My help? My loyalty?”

An hour passed.I didn’t expect a reply. But then… my phone buzzed.Anna.Tell me more.I glanced around, made sure I was alone, and began typing.I told her everything. The call with Kael. The research into her father’s empire. The theory about memory drugs. Bella’s plan to act.I sent it all. There was a pause. Then:Thank you. That was it.Just two words. But they felt like a knife twisting between guilt and satisfaction.Bella’s POVTwo days after I told Kael to dig into Anna’s background, I got a message. It wasn’t anonymous. It wasn’t a threat. It was a polite request. From Anna.Let’s meet. There’s a café nearby. Let’s talk.I stared at the screen for a while, debating. But I knew I had to go.The café she chose was quiet. I spotted her immediately—sitting at the far end, in a corner seat, tea already waiting. She smiled as I approached, perfectly composed.“Bella,” she said, standing slightly as if we were two old friends meeting for brunch.I didn’t return the greeting. Her voice was soft, curious. Almost amused.I didn’t move. She stepped further in, letting the door close behind her.“You really are something,” she said, circling a little. “Daughter of Alaric. I suppose that makes sense.”I narrowed my eyes. “Cut the nonsense. Why did you bring me here?”She smiled again, lips sharp.“You should learn to mind your own business, Bella,” she said. “Why do you think you can just waltz into my wedding and cause a scene?”I didn’t respond. My voice came out cold. Flat. “What did you do to Jesse?”Her smile didn't falter, but her eyes darkened.“He doesn’t even remember me,” I said. “What did you do?”She shrugged lightly. “Maybe he wanted to forget you. Or maybe he’s pretending… because he wants you to go away.”I stepped forward, eyes locked on hers.“No,” I said. “That’s the thing about Jesse. Jesse doesn’t lie. And he definitely wouldn’t just marry someone out of nowhere.”Anna's laugh was light, airy—and full of mockery. Then she tilted her head and

No goodbye. No message. No explanation. Just headlines and pictures of a life he was about to build without me.Didn’t he love me?Or was everything between us just timing? A moment that was never going to last? Was it because of the photos with Julius?Had he seen them? Had he assumed the worst and moved on?Or was this marriage something else entirely—a lie to protect something bigger?I couldn’t stop asking the questions.I couldn’t stop seeing his face.I couldn’t stop missing him.The morning of the wedding arrived.I sat in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection like I was waiting for it to speak for me.It didn’t.I stood, my hands clenched into fists.No.I wasn’t going to sit here while Jesse married someone else. Not without hearing the truth from him. Not without standing in front of him one last time and saying what I should’ve said long ago.No, I won’t allow that to happen.I pulled on a dark blue dress—elegant, simple, not flashy.I didn’t want to be seen.I want

My breath steadied. My eyes cleared. There was no more time to waste.I reached for the emergency phone hidden in the drawer by the bed and dialed a direct line.“Vin.”My personal guard answered within a single ring. “Sir.”“There’s a woman coming. Possibly today. Pregnant. Her name is Athena.” My voice dropped into a low command. “If she shows up at the estate or near it—I don’t want Bella to see her. Or hear her. Or know.”Vin was silent for a moment. “Understood.”“Lock her in the lower security post. Restrain her. Tie her mouth if you have to. No one, and I mean no one, is to interact with her except you.”“Yes, sir.”I stood from the bed, pacing now, blood still hot with panic disguised as resolve.**“Once she’s locked in, call me immediately.
