I was really serious about him but he dumped me just like that. It looks as if he only slept with me to see what it was like. It's my twentieth birthday today and I got dumped on this very same day by my boyfriend after being in a relationship with him for over a year.
Things never turn out well for me since the beginning. My parents died when I was little, got sent to an orphanage and bullied by other children, adopted by abusive parents. I was sad for some time before I realised that the only way I'll be happy will be if I move away from my abusive foster parents. But I don't have anywhere else to go. The one thing that changed was when they gave me freedom to do whatever outside the house. I met someone who loved me back and we were together, he even bought me expensive things. He was amazing, he always made sure I was okay and treated me nicely so I thought this would work forever. That is until everything turned sour and he dumped me."Emily! What are you doing over there? come here and join us for a drink."Madison, my best friend, beckoned for me to come sit next to her. She is my best friend and she's actually the one person that I could truly call family, other than my adopted parents of course."Uhm sure." I answered as I got up from the chair I was sitting on and walked over to them."Hey Emily." She greeted me happily as I sat down beside her.she continued, "Why are you spacing out a lot today? It's your birthday. Don't you want to celebrate?""yeah i do." I sighed as I looked into her eyes. "But I'm not having fun. I feel like all of life has sucked today."she asked, "What happened to make you feel like shit?""Connor dumped me." I bluntly said. "I was really excited to celebrate our anniversary with him but guess what? it didn't go as planned. Instead I got dumped by him.""oh my god!" she exclaimed, "what the fuck did he do?!"I told her what happened with Connor and why. Madison didn't say anything until I finished."Okay, first off, I'm so sorry. and second, i wish he's such a dickhead. But what can we do now? I've never been dumped before so I think I'm kinda lost." She was right. I had no idea what to do either. "Well, let's forget those things and celebrate your birthday today so how about we get drinks and then head somewhere away from this group?" She said while pointing at our friends' gang."That sounds good."We spent the next few hours celebrating with each other. Madison gave me a hug and said, "Girl! there's a lot of guys out here to be in love with you!" It took me a minute, but I finally figured that what she meant was, "There are lots of guys who want to go on dates with you! Which means you have time to get over Connor and start dating them."I had no idea where that came from. "That's not exactly true," I told her.She smiled at me. "Oh, yeah, it is!"But I could tell something else was going on, too, so instead of arguing about it, I asked, "How's your family?""Fine," she said, and I could tell by the way she said it, it wasn't fine. She didn't say anything more, just looked down for a second like she was gathering her thoughts before she continued on, "It's time to go home. I'll see you tomorrow in college." And walked away from me after giving me a hug.And I headed to my house. When I stepped inside my house, I found my mom on the couch, my dad staring at the TV while drinking his beer. When he noticed that I entered, he put the bottle of beer down and stared at me and said, "We need something to talk with you. Get here." my dad commanded, ignoring me completely.I obeyed and went into the room where my parents were sitting. my father motioned for me to sit down on the chair across from them. I waited patiently for my parents to speak first.Mother started, "Okay so i wanted to talk to you about something important." she cleared her throat "this might sound crazy but listen to me. I know you're young Emily but please listen to what I'm trying to say, understand me?"my father scoffed and said "Get to the point."she glared at her husband while continuing speaking, "We've arranged a wedding for you and this man…""Wait, what?" I interrupted, "Are you asking me to marry someone I don't know? And, I'm only twenty. Why do i..."Father stood up and cut me off, "Just shut up. You should be grateful that I am telling you. Now, listen to me and listen closely. This man is the perfect gentleman and I believe he will treat you right. So for now, accept this.""But what about college? I still have one more year to finish. How can I leave it all of a sudden?" I panicked, looking between them both.Mother answered, "It doesn't matter anymore, Emily. All that matters is that you are going to marry him and start a new life with him.""But mom…"Father interjected, "Stop whining and get married to him." and he walked away. After my father left, I asked my mother, "Please mom, just tell me why I can't continue my education? I need to graduate or I'll lose my scholarship. I don't want to marry anyone right now."my mother sighed, "Look Emily, you have your whole future ahead of you. The sooner you get married, the better off you'll be. Please don't argue anymore." and with that she exited the room.I ran upstairs towards my room and locked myself in. my chest hurt as tears came spilling onto my cheeks. I tried hard not to cry but my heart was breaking and the pain wouldn't stop coming. My parents already hate me. They wouldn't give up no matter how much I begged them. What am I supposed to do at this point?I heard a knock at my door. Since i didn't care to open, my father opened it using a spare key, "Come downstairs Emily." he ordered, "There are people waiting for us downstairs. And, get dressed in something good." He closed the door behind him and walked away, leaving me alone again.I changed my dress and wiped the tears off my face and walked downstairs. Many unfamiliar faces were sitting in the centre of the house. Why are they here and who are they?Father introduced me, "Well, this is my beloved daughter, Emily wood. She's a wonderful young woman and very clever. You'll like her for sure."That was the first time I heard my dad speak about me well in front of others.A lady smiled at me while saying, "Hello Emily, it was nice to meet you."I turned to my father and whispered, "Dad, what's happening here?"Instead of answering me, father spoke to the lady who greeted me, "She feels a little shy." and turned to me and said sternly, "Emily, greet them back."I turned to the people in front of me and greeted them back like how my father asked me to.While everyone was talking seriously, I asked my mother, "Who are they?"She replied, "It's the guy I told you about. You're going to get married to him." She pointed to some guy who was dressed casually while others were in fancy suits. I was shocked to see that my parents actually brought someone over for the wedding."Why are they here?" I asked her again."Shut your mouth and stand still, Emily." And she smiled at them.I watched them talking to each other. I couldn't hold it in so my eyes began watering once more.My parents dragged me outside the house. "Will you stop crying like a bitch?" my father asked. "Your mother and I are very tired of you. You will thank us later by being a good wife to the man we have chosen for you."my mother added, "Cry all you want but you gotta marry that man."My hands balled up into fists and I punched one of the car windows. I knew it was a bad idea but I couldn't help it."That won't solve anything. What the fuck is wrong with you?!" he yelled, grabbing my hand and pulling me away from the car and said, "I hope you realize that punching the window isn't going to fix this mess! Now get your ass back in the house before I lay my hands on you." he went inside the house taking mother along with him. When i entered the house, i saw the people who came were trying to leave. They were laughing and smiling but they had a very tense atmosphere surrounding them. It made me feel uneasy. There was something in this air that made it almost impossible for me to breathe. I stood at the doorway for a moment longer, just observing as they all left, leaving the door slightly open, letting in some of the cold evening air. When they left, there was a sense of relief and comfort in the silence of the house.Mother, "You should be lucky. They like you."Mother said as she placed the plate down on the dinner table. When I looked at my father, he ate his food without a word. When I tried to go to my room, Father said, "There's no point in fighting it. Prepare yourself for the wedding. There's not much time for it."While I was leaving, Father shouted, "I didn't hear anything from you yet.""Yes, father." With that, I headed to my room.Blood was already clotted on my knuckles making it hard to wash off under water. As i was cleaning it, i looked into the mirror and thought, 'Why does my life have to be like this? Why can't I ever get anything just right?'A week later, Mr Wood, "Dress up and come downstairs.""Why should I?" Emily inquired her father."Don't start it again with me." Mr Wood warned, voice sharp enough to silence the entire house, "Now get dressed and be downstairs in five minutes."The sound of footsteps faded down the hallway. As her father left to go join her mother.Emily finally picked herself up from her bed and dragged herself over to the dresser in front of her. She looked at her reflection in the mirror that hung above her vanity. She wore a pair of jeans and a turtleneck sweater. Her curly hair was still wet from her bath earlier that evening. Her skin had a bit of an unusual glow to it from the light shining in through her window; but she didn't seem bothered by it much. She reached for her brush and started brushing her dark curls back into some semblance of order, which she'd managed to do before getting ready.Emily felt tired all of a sudden, as if her body and mind were slowly giving out on her, leaving h
Emily's pov;I got up from the bed and made my way to the bathroom. I turned on the light and stepped in the tub, setting my phone on top of the cabinet to charge it before turning the water off and climbing in. I took a moment to take off all my clothes and slip into the warm water. The hot water always feels nice against my skin when I’m feeling too sick or tired. I sighed constantly as the warm water flowed over me. I leaned back further into the bubbles and just sat there, letting my thoughts roam free. I closed my eyes and relaxed. As much as it was relaxing to think about nothing for once it also reminded me of everything that was bothering me. I submerged myself into the water for as long as I needed but eventually decided that I should probably get up before it turns cold. I climbed out of the tub, and turned on the shower. After stepping out of the shower, I wrapped the towel more securely around my body so I could dry off with it.Mom walked in and asked, "Why are you still
Emily's POV;I came to my house to give the contract copy to Father and mother. When I entered, I saw my mother and father sitting on a couch and talking to each other. I walked to them and stood in front of them. Father, "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be..."Before he finished, I gave the copy of the contract and said, "Mr Hamilton asked me to hand over this to you, father."He received the contract paper and looked at me with a confused and doubtful look.I continued, "There's a lot of questions bolting inside my head since I got this from Mr Hamilton. And, I know I can't get answers to any of them. But there's been one which makes me ask you so bad. Can I ask?"He looked at mom who was beside him and gave a nod to me, asking me to continue."Why did you adopt me, father? I haven't seen you and mom happy ever since I stepped into this house. And I never asked why. I don't know what made you pick me among the children in the orphanage but I was so happy that I got a
Emily's POV;When I woke up, I was in Mr Hamilton's room. How did I come here? I was in the garden and looking at those flowers, right? Did I fall asleep in the garden? Mr Hamilton walked in and removed his coat and looked at me. I sat straight on the bed after getting a stare from him. He walked over to me and touched my forehead and said when he parted his hand from my forehead, "The temperature drops quickly when the sun sets since it is the winter season. So, don't fall asleep outside the house."When he touched my forehead, it felt like Deja Vu. Like it happened before. But how?"I'm sorry…"Before I finished, he said, "No need to apologise. Just be aware of the weather. Did you eat dinner?" I shaked my head while looking at him. "Go down. I'll join you in a few minutes after taking a shower." I nodded and headed downstairs while he was removing his tie. At the dining table, I was staring at the food since there were so many different kinds of food on the table. By that tim
Emily's POV;At the end of the third hour, it was the break time so we came to the cafeteria. We took a table of six and sat like usual with a platter of lunch except for me.Madison, "Why didn't you buy for you? Aren't you eating?" I placed the lunch box on the table while saying, "I brought it with me." And opened it. Sarah, "Who made this for you? Is it your husband?" I let out a sigh and said, "It was made by the cook who works in the house. I had this for breakfast and liked it very much. I brought it to share it with you guys. Ain't I nice friend?"Sarah, "Are you flexing right now?" I laughed and said, "Take a bite and see for yourself." After everyone had a bite, they give a thumbs up and said it's good. Dylan, "By the way, How's the married life? Is it good?""Why do you ask like that? It is good.""You should have seen your husband's face while waiting at the altar for you. He looked like he's going to murder someone." I laughed and asked, "Really?" Carter joined him,
Emily's POV;The next day, I was surprised to wake up without having any nightmares from last night. When I looked at the time it was already 7 in the morning. I got up from the bed and started getting ready for college. I put on my usual jeans and a turtleneck. Today I had decided to wear my black converse sneakers with an orange jacket. I tied my hair into pigtails to keep it from falling down, which I did not like. I put on some earrings that matched my eyes and some lip gloss, before heading downstairs. When I came downstairs, I couldn't see Mr Hamilton in the house. The breakfast was already set up at the dining table. On top of the empty plate, there was one letter and a little note attached to it."Be sure to eat your vegetables and drink lots of water! Good morning." I laughed at his handwriting. After eating breakfast, I started college. An hour later, I came to the college. In the classroom, Luke, "I did half of the presentation. What about you?" I took my assignment o
Emily's POV;When I entered the house, I saw Mr Hamilton on a couch drinking his coffee. With smiles all over my face, I walked to him and said, "Thanks." he placed his coffee on the table in front of him and asked, "What are you thanking me for?" I took a seat across from him and said, "The seminar was completed very well. Mr Johnson has praised the work and gave points to us which is why I'm thanking you in return. I'm so happy because Mr Johnson always scolds me for not being punctual even if I submit his assignment on the day of submission. He says that i delayed the time and scolds me for it. After receiving only scoldings from him, I was really happy to get praised by him.""What did I did to thank me?""You gave me important points which I used for the assignment."i sighed and said, "While you're struggling to reach the shore, I just threw the floating bubble. It's you who paddled against the waves to reach the shore. Your effort. Your victory.""If you didn't throw the float
Emily's POV:While I was thinking about Madison, someone put their hand over my shoulder but I was more concentrated on how to console Madison. When they poke my cheeks, I lifted my head to see who it was. it's Sarah."Hey, what are you doing?""I'm coming with you." "Where?""Till the entrance.""Whatever."She poked my cheeks again and asked, "Why do you look so down?" "Madison asked me to hangout with her for shopping this weekend. On the other hand, Carter asked me to play the match.""Then who are you going to ditch now?" "I can't miss the match. At the same time, I don't want to get Madison mad at me.""Is this what you're thinking about? Leave it to me. I'll take care of it.""How are you going to do that? Are you going to play instead of me?" He gave me a flick on my forehead and said, "Do I look like someone who hop around and chase others for the ball? I'll go with Madison for shopping and you go to the match. How does that sound now?" "Don't you have anything to do this
Emily's POV;Mr Hamilton said, "At eleven, I was sent to a foster care after my parents passed away. Even though my family is pretty big, no one took me and I was left to fend for myself in foster care. After six months of being on my own, I saw you. You looked lost and someone took advantage of it and bullied you. Colton and his friends. I saw and walked away. But one night, I saw you looking at the moon like it's the only thing in the world with you. The next day, I stood for you against Colton to make you realise that there's another person in this world too. Since then, you started tagging along with me wherever I go. We started eating and playing together. The orphanage which felt like a prison once turned a warmer place for me since you were there beside me. You said you wanted me to be your first kiss and we kissed. You become closer to my heart. That's when I fell in love with you, Em. Suddenly, I couldn't find you anywhere. When I asked the woman who was in-charge, she told me
Emily's POV;While I was clearing the leaves in the garden along with the children, Jake asked, "Emily, What's for today's breakfast?" I squatted down to his height and asked, "What do you like to have?"Jake came closer and whispered into my ears, "I heard Samantha likes oatmeal. Could I please have that for breakfast today?"I stood up straight and smiled at him, "Sure thing, kiddo." Then as he ran away from me, I added under my breath, "And you better stay away from Samantha. You're too young to be in love, kiddo."Peter pulled my skirt."Yes, Peter?""You said there's no appropriate age to fall in love in last night's bedtime story.""That is correct. Well, let's keep it a secret between us. Now, what do you want for breakfast?" He looked around for a moment and said, "Can I get Fruit pancakes?""Alright. Go and inform Lance that I asked him to prepare normal pancakes and fruit pancakes for breakfast." He ran off into the house while I was clearing the garden along with other k
Emily's POV;“You have to promise me that you will do everything that I tell you to.” I say, holding up my pinky finger. Emily looks at my hand for a moment before she sticks her own out to match. We lock our pinkies together and shake as if it’s an unspoken pact. “And no lying!” I add. Emily smiles back at me and nods. “Yes ma’am!” She says. The two of us burst into laughter at our childishness. “Do you really think that your parents would be happy with me?” Emily asks. I shrug, not wanting to lie to her. After all, we are both girls in the same class. If anyone finds out about our relationship, then so will her mother. “I don't know. You'll just have to take care of yourself.” I reply. After that, we both look over at Morgana who is currently playing around with some pieces of paper. He must have gotten bored because he has now decided to start writing something down. Emily giggles and reaches out to touch his head. “He doesn't look like someone who gets bored very often.” She comm
George Hamilton's POV;I took Emily to a restaurant and we started talking about our future. She wanted to be the CEO of her own company one day and I was planning on running for congress in four years time, but first I had to make it to my third term in office. I've been working nonstop on this campaign for three months now and finally, everything is going according to plan. I told her that I would do anything to get elected as president because if it weren't for that, I wouldn't have met Emily and she was all I wanted, but Emily just laughed and said that I was going to run for president anyway so she didn't care. We went out to dinner after I dropped her off and talked more about us. We were sitting there on this bench outside and she asked me if I'd ever thought about marriage before. I told her that no, I hadn't really thought about any women besides my exes. And then I realized that I actually had never considered marriage. Not only did that shock me but it also made me feel l
Emily's POV; I was sitting down on the couch. The lights were dimmed and the room was dark save for a single lamp next to me. My head was resting in my hands, fingers interlaced together as I stared at the wall across from me. It was blank. Empty, devoid of any personality or anything that reminded me of life. Nothing but white paint that matched the rest of the walls.I heard the click of a door behind me and I turned my attention towards it. I saw the silhouette of a man standing there, his back facing me so he couldn't see my facial expression. He stood there for several minutes, silent, until I finally spoke up."What are you doing?"He didn't respond right away, just stood there in silence for a few more seconds before turning around to face me. His eyes were filled with sadness and he looked exhausted. A frown was present on his face and when he looked at me I could tell he wasn't in the mood for conversation. His face was emotionless and he didn't look too good either. The bag
Emily's POV;It was a quiet evening. A little after 5 o'clock, the moon was out, and the air had a cool bite to it that helped settle my nerves. As I walked up the hill towards home, I could just barely make out the faint sound of the ocean crashing into the shore in the distance. It was an unusually beautiful night for this time of year. The walk seemed to last forever, as I got closer and closer to home. The sun had set some time ago, leaving me in a deep silence except for my own footsteps. Even with no one else around, everything felt so peaceful. After turning into my driveway, I paused to catch my breath, taking the key out of my pocket and unlocking my door. I stepped inside my house, shutting the door behind me softly. As I entered the living room, my gaze fell upon a figure sitting on the couch, facing away from me. His hair glittered softly under the low light coming through the windows, and I took note of his profile as he turned his head slightly to face me.His eyes were
Emily's POV;I have always been interested in literature, not just about fantasy and science fiction, but about the other side of the coin. It's funny, how I never thought that something like this would ever happen to me. Not because I'm not a good girl or anything like that, it's just that I've had so much experience with relationships in my life and yet it feels as though this is the first time. I mean, yes, there have been guys at school who I've liked over the years, but those were all in highschool, right before college. After that, it was more of a case of if you're into me and I'm into you type deal. This is probably going to sound cheesy, but I think I might be bisexual. That means that I have two things in mind when it comes to guys – one being that they're hot and the other being that they want to date me.Anyway, that's why we're here today, on our first date. It' s the end of summer term, and we've both decided to drive down to San Francisco for the weekend, to spend the n
Emily's POV; a few days agoIt was late at night when the door to Emily's office opened, causing her to jump slightly. She turned around and saw her father standing there. His usually dark hair was now a lighter shade of black than what she had originally expected, and his eyes looked tired as he took in his surroundings. "Daddy?" He didn't respond, only walked over towards the small table next to her desk. She got up from her chair and followed him, not bothering with closing the door behind her as she did so. "What brings you here this time of night?"He sat down on one of the chairs and sighed deeply, rubbing his face roughly. "I need your help.""With what?" She asked cautiously, sitting down next to him."With your wedding." Emily blinked several times, surprised that her father knew about it. It wasn't like she ever told anyone else about it. In fact, she hadn't even told anyone except for Spencer... but they weren' t dating, were they?He shook his head and continued speaking
Emily's POV;I wake up to the sound of my phone going off. I grab it and see it is Emily that I'm currently sleeping with. As I check who the notification is from, I can tell it is her."Morning." I say through a sleepy voice as I answer the phone."Oh, good morning! Did you have a good night?" Emily asks in a bubbly tone. She loves waking me up like this."Yes...what time is it?" I ask as I glance at my watch which reads 7:40 am."It's 8am now!" Emily says happily. I smile and roll over onto my side."How did you know?" I ask her softly. I never thought I would ever be able to enjoy myself with someone like that. Sure, there were other people, but none of them could compare. She giggles before answering. "Because you called me this morning! Why are you up so early? You didn't wake me!""Yeah, sorry about that, I woke up because you kept calling me back and forth throughout the night." I admit. There was a slight pause on the other line before she replies."Really? Do you mind if we d
