Chapter 18. He hugs another woman

Wen Li didn't expect Huo Yuanchen to go back on his word, and was so angry that he immediately called to question him.

The call didn't go through. He hung up the phone just as it was about to ring. After a long while, he sent her a message, "I'm in a meeting."

Wen Li asked him, "When will the meeting end?"

The message fell on deaf ears and an hour passed with no reply.

She couldn't afford to waste time, so she drove home to pick up the things she bought yesterday. Hu Huifen received her call in advance and was waiting for her downstairs to help her pick up the things.

After putting away the things, Hu Huifen pulled her to the kitchen to help. While picking vegetables, she asked her casually, "Xiao Li, were you with Jinnian last night?"

Wen Li was stunned for a moment and shook his head, "No."

"So where did you go last night?"

Wen Li was more and more puzzled. "In my apartment. Didn't I call you last night to tell you?"

Hu Huifen didn't refute, but she looked at her eyes and clearly didn't believe her. She reminded her in a roundabout way, "You are a girl, you have to know some things by yourself, otherwise no one can help you if you suffer a loss."

Wen Li was not that stupid and knew what her mother was worried about. She thought about it and told him the truth, "Mom, Meng Jinnian and I broke up."

"What?"

Hu Huifen's voice was a little louder, and she quickly covered her mouth. She looked towards the living room in fear. Seeing that Wen Yongnian didn't react, she whispered to Wen Li, "Xiao Li, tell me the truth. Did Jinnian break up with you because of your father's illness..."

"No, Mom, you're overthinking it." Wen Li was afraid that her mother would blame herself, so she interrupted her and said, "I was the one who proposed the breakup."

She paused, pursed her lips and said, "I didn't know Meng Jinnian had a neighbor sister who grew up with him as a childhood sweetheart. He treats that sister very differently."

Of course, she couldn't tell him the other reason for the breakup.

Hu Huifen felt upset, but she didn't dare show it on her face. She just said, "Let's break up. Although our family is not as rich as the Meng family, you were also raised by me and your father. We can't let you suffer just because of a relationship."

Wen Li breathed a sigh of relief. She was already 26 years old, and in the eyes of the older generation, she was considered a leftover woman. She was afraid that her parents would worry about her marriage after they knew that she and Meng Jinnian had broken up.

"Mom, don't worry about me. If I meet the right one, I will definitely not miss it."

Mother Wen smiled and said, "You don't have to worry about us. If you don't want to get married, your father and I will definitely not urge you. Don't compromise with anyone just to get married. It's a matter of a lifetime, so you should always make yourself happy."

Wen Li was so touched that she hugged Hu Huifen tightly and said, "Thank you, Mom. I understand."

Her parents have been loving all their lives, having met each other when they were young and supporting each other through thick and thin. She doesn't ask herself to be as loving as her parents in the future, but at least, she doesn't want to live a life of chaos.

Fortunately, she has parents who truly love her.

It was when Wen Li was leaving that she understood why her mother suddenly mentioned Meng Jinnian to her.

Meng Jinnian's clothes were thrown on the back seat of her car. They were brought up by Zhou Ying after the last birthday party. She threw them away and forgot about them afterwards. She didn't expect that after so many days, the clothes were still lying in her car.

Wen Lifei suddenly understood why Huo Yuanchen asked her to clean the back seat of the car.

A man's possessiveness should not be underestimated. Even if he doesn't love her, he still wants to assert his sovereignty.

Unfortunately, she is just her and doesn't belong to anyone.

Wen Li curled her lips, turned around and threw Meng Jinnian's clothes into the community trash can.

She took a photo and sent it to Huo Yuanchen.

He still didn't reply.

But when Wen Li called his assistant again, the other party informed her that the medicine she wanted had arrived.

She had enough medicine on hand, so she was not in a hurry to find Huo Yuanchen. It was almost the New Year, and there were many things to do at home. She went back frequently, and her contact with Huo Yuanchen became less and less.

But there are times when we have to meet.

She accepted the promotional photos for Huo Yuanchen's college. As the winter vacation was approaching, the teacher in charge of the connection in the college asked her to "finish the first episode of shooting as soon as possible before the students go home."

The shooting plan had been finalized in advance, and the corresponding teacher also coordinated for several days before booking shooting time for Wen Li in the laboratory.

"This is the best laboratory in the institute. The experimental equipment inside is very high-end and best represents the academic level of our institute." The other party introduced.

In accordance with the hospital's requirements, Wen Li thoroughly disinfected his entire body, put on a disposable protective suit, and pushed open the door of the laboratory.

As soon as I entered the door, I heard the sweet voice of a girl inside.

"Brother Yuanchen, can you help me check if my steps are correct? Something seems to be wrong with my guinea pig."

Wen Li looked over and saw a young girl with a bright red bow on her head and wearing a white coat. She was standing side by side with Huo Yuanchen, who was also wearing a white coat. They looked a perfect match.

Wen Li had never seen Huo Yuanchen doing academic work before. Seeing his focused expression, skillfully operating the experimental equipment, and his every move full of elite spirit, he was stunned.

She did very poorly in school and could only get a diploma from an art school. She instinctively admires people with high IQs.

In addition, Huo Yuanchen's outfit was too abstinent, and he looked like a completely different person from when he was in bed. She couldn't help but raised her camera and took a picture with a "click".

Unexpectedly, this shot startled the girl who was doing the experiment opposite. The girl was holding a syringe in her hand, preparing to inject the mouse. She was frightened by Wen Li, and her hand shook, and the needle tip slanted into the mouse's flesh.

The little white mouse let out a scream, turned around and bit the girl hard.

The girl screamed, and blood instantly dripped onto the lab table.

"What's wrong?" Huo Yuanchen's face changed drastically. He grabbed the girl's hand with an anxious look.

The girl cried bitterly, feeling very aggrieved, "Brother Yuanchen, I didn't mean it. Someone else was causing trouble."

She pointed at Wen Li and sobbed, "It was her. Her flash dazzled my eyes."

Wen Li was sure that she had not turned on the flash. The teacher who brought her in had explained the laboratory rules to her, and she seemed to have checked them several times, fearing that she had missed anything.

Maybe it was a reflection from the lens, or maybe the girl herself made a mistake, but in any case, she didn't do it on purpose.

But Huo Yuanchen didn't want to listen to her explanation. He just glanced at her coldly and said in annoyance, "Who let you in? Get out!"

Wen Li didn't move.

The little white mouse that the girl had just let go was in a panic and somehow ended up landing on her feet.

When she arrived, she heard that she was not allowed to wear high heels into the laboratory. She didn't bring any spare shoes, so she simply took off her shoes outside, put on disposable shoe covers, and walked in barefoot.

Through the thin plastic sheet, she could clearly feel the furry touch of the little white mouse and the pain of its little claws hooking her feet.

Wen Li's scalp went numb, and the fear in her heart instantly grew, almost drowning her.

She was so scared that she couldn't help but shout, "Huo Yuanchen."

After I shouted it out loud, I realized that my voice was shaking so much.

Huo Yuanchen had just checked the wound of the girl with the bow tie, and was now letting her collapse in his arms, sobbing. He put his hand on the girl's back, patting and comforting her patiently.

When Wen Li called him, he noticed that she hadn't left yet, and his face became even colder, "Get lost."
