Chapter 8

Zac looked at me, frozen in disbelief.

Instinctively, I covered my face. I felt too ashamed to face Zac.

He hesitated for a moment, then quickly rushed over and draped his jacket over me.

"Zac, did you know that your village has always treated bridesmaids like this?" I leaned weakly against him, forcing a bitter smile.

Zac’s shoulders tensed, and he instinctively pulled back a little, putting some distance between us.

"Layla, you’re so smart. I thought you’d find a way out of it." Zac’s tone was flat and his words were devoid of emotion.

I called for Ruby, and Zac carried me to the car.

Ruby looked at me with deep concern. "Miss Layla, we should go to the police and file a report. We can’t just let them get away with this!"

Zac interrupted her, his gaze dark and unreadable as he looked at me.

"Layla. If you go to the police now, I’ll be dragged into this too.

"If I end up in trouble, my mom will definitely release those photos. Do you think anyone will want you after that?"
