Syanna was brought back to the conscious world as her nap ended, and rolled to her side, but the bed was empty.

She fluttered her eyes open, indeed being met with the empty spot where Cole used to be. A frown pulled on her lips, and she sat against the headboard, wondering where he could’ve gone.

Did he go to find Genevieve, leaving her here alone in his bed?

She pulled her knees to her chest as her heart broke, and all the negative thoughts came rushing in. What if he only did this to get her mind off the issue at hand? Was that why he didn’t take it to the next level?

Syanna knew she wouldn’t have refused if he had tried to have sex with her, but he evidently didn’t want to.

But why?

She couldn’t understand the man. He was flirty and sweet one minute and a completely different person the next. And it’s not like Syanna didn’t understand his situation. She, of all people, knew the burden of having a past that you didn’t know of. Syanna could only imagine how it felt for Cole.

What the fuck just happened? No really. Cole was literally a second behind Syanna, and when he stepped outside, she was gone. She wasn’t down the hallway. She wasn’t near the stairs. She was just gone. And to make it worse, Cole found her phone at his door, as if she had dropped it. And he was on the brink of burning the entire school to the ground in that very second. But he composed himself. If he burned the school down, he’d kill her too. And the very thought of that made his insides shiver. For the first time since he knew himself, Cole felt helpless. He didn’t know what to do or where to go. He didn’t know who took Syanna, and their scent wasn’t in the hallway either. So, he couldn’t even follow it.He was going to go crazy if he didn’t move now. It was evident that whoever took Syanna wasn’t joking around. They meant business, but he was the destroyer of all things and people that could hurt Syanna. To hell with whoever got caught in the crossfire. Cole stomped his way dow

It was dark.Wherever Syanna was, had no hint of light, smell, sound or anything to prove that she was alive. Had she been killed for the second time since she’s at this damn academy? First, having her neck ripped open by an ancient vampire, and now being kidnapped at Cole’s bedroom door after having the orgasm of her life? She had woken up about a minute ago, but somehow had managed to stay calm and not scream. Although she couldn’t see a thing, Syanna could tell that she was safe. She didn’t know how, but she just knew. That was why her first thought was death. No way she would’ve been feeling this way if she was still in the hands of her kidnappers. “Syanna? Syanna are you awake?” It was Juliet, and by the sound of her voice, she had been crying a lot. Was she dead too? Did they cross over together? “I’m awake. Juliet?” “Yes, it’s me,” Juliet whispered. “Keep your voice down. They’ll hear us.” “Who’ll hear us?” Syanna asked. “The grim reaper?”“What?” Juliet sounded genuinel

Genevieve knew that this day would come. The day when she had to show Cole the whole truth—the day when he’d probably rip her head from her body out of rage. The day when she showed him that he had known Syanna long before Unici. And just like she anticipated, his eyes were bright in anger as they snapped open. “Get the hell away from me,” Cole growled as steam rose from his skin. Genevieve gulped. “I did it for your own good, Cole,” she told him, trying to calm him down. But instead, this made him even angrier. She knew that when she showed Cole the truth, he’d hate her even more. She didn’t know why that thought bugged her so much, yet it did.“My own good!” He laughed, but it was void of humour. “Do you know what my first memory is, Genevieve? Seeing you, who took me and brought me to a place that I hated! Do you know how much more peace I would’ve had for the past two years if I had remembered that I met Syanna!?” He ran his hand through his hair. “Gosh, I... I knew her all

Syanna couldn’t believe her eyes, although she had figured out the truth. The headmistress wasn’t supposed to be the bad guys. She was… she was the headmistress, for crying out loud! But she couldn’t deny what was right in front of them. And that was the headmistress. Yet, unlike most ‘villains,’ the headmistress didn’t wear a coy smirk, or scowl that proved a long-lived hate, nor did she look like she was going to threaten their lives or tell them her sad backstory. Instead, she smiled at them—and it wasn’t one of those evil ones. It was warm and almost motherly, and if she didn’t know better, probably even scolding. “Hello, Syanna,” Headmistress Simpson said with a short nod. “Juliet.” “Why am I here?” Syanna didn’t waste any time. She just went straight for the kill. Headmistress Simpson smiled. “For your own good,” she said. “You’ve been quite busy, I’ve been told.” “Told by who?” Syanna narrowed her eyes. No longer could she see this woman as a respected authority figure. E

Twelve hours. It had been twelve hours since Genevieve left, and Syanna was getting both antsy and sleepy. It’s not that she was rushing them or waiting like a damsel in distress for her prince charming to save her, but being here gave her a lot of time to think. What would she do if they pulled off setting her free? What will they do when the headmistress comes after them again? It’s not like she could very well stay at Unici, but she wouldn’t be able to go back home to Jake, either. He’d surely send her back for her 'own protection.’ And that, too, was another thing to consider. The Vechi vampire who Cole killed wasn’t the only one, and she knew that if she left Unici, she’d run into more of them. With or without Cole, that’d be a problem. So, she was basically stuck. No option worked in her favour except one. And that was convincing the headmistress that she could handle the truth and danger better if she actually knew what it was. All her life, Jake had done the same thing as

Was it a trap? Why was this so easy? Syanna was out on the grass of Unici, fully fed and free to go to her classes and do whatsoever she pleased. She found it suspicious, even though she vividly remembered the conversation she had with the headmistress last night, yet, it still felt too... easy. She shrugged, deciding that it would be best to get the hell away from there as fast as she could. There was no need to be testing fate. “Syanna?” She knew this voice anywhere, and as she thought, she spun around to see Isaac sprinting towards her. He grabbed her and twirled her around before resting her back on her feet. “Gosh, I was so worried,” he said as he examined her. He was a mess. His eyes were red and drooping, and his hair was messy, as if he spent the entire night running his hands through it. “Did you stay here the entire night?” Syanna asked him. He scratched the back of his head with a sheepish smile. “Yeah, I kinda did.” Her mouth fell open. “I thought you would’ve know

“I am never letting you out of my sight again.” Cole held onto Syanna as they entered his room. The morning had just started, yet they both had had a long day already. “Even when I’m peeing?” Syanna teased as they plopped in Cole’s bed. “Isn’t that a bit weird?”Cole, too smiled as he caressed her cheek with his thumb. “You can use the bathroom in peace,” he said with a chuckle. “But no more vampire attacks, or supposedly good-willed kidnappings.”He rolled his eyes at the thought. Syanna found it funny. She had spent the entire walk to his room explaining to him why the headmistress wasn’t evil, and why he shouldn’t pick a fight with her. But Cole was still sceptical. He thought that the old fairy could’ve approached the situation immensely better. Which was true. Syanna didn’t understand why the headmistress had to be so extra. She understood that she was trying to give Syanna a wake-up call, but kidnapping? That would’ve given anyone the wrong impression. “I doubt that,” Syanna

A week had passed, and every day was pretty much the same. Syanna would try to open the book, Cole would bug Genevieve to tell him a little more about who he was, and Isaac would be on the sidelines, helping Syanna and teasing Genevieve whenever he got the chance. They had yet to make any progress, except Cole learning more about Syanna, and Syanna more about Cole. Like the fact that she smells her food before she takes a bite, and she scratches her head whenever she’s thinking about something. Cole also learned that she likes her curly hair, but prefers it straightened, and she likes when Cole squeezes her bum and bites her bottom lip. It was fun, and a little sweet building a relationship with Cole, especially considering how it all started. Yet, Syanna couldn’t bare the empty feeling inside when she thought about the fact that the stupid book wouldn’t open. Genevieve tried spells, they tried tactics, they even tried breaking it open. Yet, it wouldn’t budge. “Maybe we’re

Cole was relieved Genevieve was back from the academy, although she won't talk about the demon attack on her last night. He tried to pry it out of her, but she remained tight-lipped. Cole couldn't blame her, though. His own experience with demons had taught him that sometimes, speaking about them could lead to even more trouble. While Genevieve locked herself away in her room, Cole headed out to find the demon that attacked her. He was determined to put an end to it before it harmed anyone else.As he roamed the streets, he kept his senses sharp. He could feel the demon's presence nearby, but it was elusive, flitting from shadow to shadow, never staying in one place for too long. It was like chasing a ghost. Finally, after hours of fruitless searching, Cole saw the demon. It was a hulking beast, towering over him, with skin as black as night and eyes that glowed like embers. Its wings were torn and ragged, and its claws glinted in the moonlight.Cole didn't hesitate. He drew his sword

Two hours had passed since Genevieve left, and Cole was begging to get antsy. He knew she didn’t walk there this time. She must’ve taken a portal or something, so she shouldn’t have taken to long to return. But Cole tried not to let it bother him so much. He had to stay calm. Yet, he couldn’t help his nerved. Because if something happened to Genevieve, then that meant he might never get Syanna back. And, hell, the thought was scary. He moved from his seat to the chair next to Syanna’s side of the bed, where he held her hand. He knew that her body was practically lifeless, and the real Syanna was inside of Isaac, but he couldn’t sit in front of Isaac and talk to her. It would just seem too weird. “Hey,” he whispered, caressing her cheek with his thumb. “I miss you, Syanna. But I’ll get you back, okay?” He kissed her forehead, and if he didn’t know better, he would’ve thought he saw Isaac’s lips twitch. Cole had to give it to the guy, he was a real friend. He didn’t think he wou

Part 2: The Vampire QueenRain. Gloomy weather had never mattered to Cole before. But now—somehow, he understood why it was always so dark, so cold and so sad. He started at the patch of dirt, hating how the soft patter of rain didn’t wash away the pain in his chest. Cole had no idea how it came to this… how he went from having the love of his life in his arms, to standing in the rain for an hour, staring at the ground. The open world didn’t feel as free as he had anticipated. Although he managed to leave Unici-him and Genevieve—the feeling of the wind in his hair and the bite of freedom on his ski didn’t feel like he had expected it to. Instead, it felt like bondage. It felt like pain, agony and everything in between, not having Syanna by his side. He and Genevieve left Unici two days ago before the headmistress caught onto them, taking Syanna and Isaac with them. Turns out, Genevieve knew of an old, abandoned house about five miles away from Unici. It seemed as if it had been

To say I was shocked was un understatement. I couldn't believe that all this time, so many people had been sent to kill my family. Including Anthony. I gulped and met his eyes, wondering if he somehow still wanted to complete that mission. But he simply continued the story, seeming completely out of it. “Yes,” Anthony confirmed. “But we had killed the wrong people. Your ancestors were smart—smart enough to stay in hiding well.” “But you had already murdered hundreds of people.” “It was about seventy people,” Anthony snapped, though the guilt in his face was evident. “Kids, elders… pregnant women.” “Oh my gosh.” Syanna couldn’t bear it. Dimitri ordered this sort of evil so he could save his own ass? “My mama was the first to fold. She wouldn’t do it a second time. My papa, feeling as though he always needed to protect us as the man of the family, begged her to try again. My sister ran away, and I followed her.” “So, what happened?” Anthony sighed. “I didn’t find my sister

This couldn’t be happening. It just couldn’t. There was no way Syanna was unconscious in Genevieve’s bed, with no sign of life. She wasn’t even breathing normally, and it took everything in Cole not to burn this damn academy to the ground once and for all. “Why isn’t she breathing?” Cole demanded as Genevieve stood in front of the bed where Syanna had been lying unconscious for the last two minutes since they arrived. “She was bitten, Cole.” “What does that mean?” Genevieve seemed on edge, as if, for the first time ever, she didn’t know what to do. And Cole didn’t like that. He sort of depended on Genevieve to always know everything and fix things. But now, she was looking at Syanna as if she had no idea what to do, and it terrified Cole. He paced Genevieve’s room, pulling at the root of his hair as if they were an abomination to him. “It means,” she said, sounding on edge. “That the vampire venom is killing her slowly.” “That doesn’t make any sense!” He threw his hands in the

She felt like she’d been there for hours, when I had only been about twenty minutes. Syanna couldn’t believe someone had kidnapped her in the middle of the school. Wasn’t Unici supposed to be safe? Wasn’t it supposed to be all rainbows and sunshine for all species here? But she guessed not. Because now, she was in someone’s old, abandoned cabin, with a vampire and a large, large class. Syanna knew before he even said anything what his plan had been, but she didn’t want to believe it. Mark assured her that none of the vampires would hurt her or try and drink her blood for power. But he was wrong, and she was wrong for believing him. Mark couldn’t speak for everyone, and it was her mistake for thinking so. So this was the big thing that Cole felt was going to happen, huh? A vampire was hoping to drain her dry and use her blood for power. “You don’t have to do this,” she said for the umpteenth time as the vampire, who’s name she had known as Anthony, stared at her from across the ro
