Lunch had mostly consisted of silence, except for the occasional clinking of silverware against ceramic plates. They both were toying with their food in every honesty; pushing chucks of meat and vegetables back and forth and around the plates, each doing it subconsciously but noticing the other’s disinterest in the food. Calan spoke first like always.

“Do you not like the food?”. He asked her.

And it was only then she realized that she hadn’t taken a single bite, that she had been toying with her food like a child.

“I…I do, I must have….trailed off”. She stuttered quietly.

Her gaze flickered to his plate and she realized she hadn’t been the only one who hadn’t been paying much attention to the food.

“Please eat”. Calan urged her.

He didn’t want her skipping meals on his watch; he didn’t want her skipping meals at all.

“You too”. She said quietly.

He set his fork down as though her replied had completely destroyed his interest in the food.

Knowing he had to address the matter at han

Alexa’s point of view Perhaps going to his office had actually been useful, perhaps it had helped more than I knew, perhaps I just had to be open minded about it. But who was I kidding? It obviously wasn’t that easy, I felt as though my heart had been ripped out of my chest, felt as though I had been stabbed over and over and over again. Sitting there beside Calan in the car during the drive back home was torturous, I wanted to cry but he had literally begged me to put an end to my crying, and I had forced the tears back and had locked them somewhere knowing they’d break free the very second I was away from him.He hadn’t said much since he got me to stop crying, he had simply sat there absentmindedly staring ahead, I could tell that he wasn’t in the best of moods at the moment, but a lot of that was going around so the entire drive was quiet. And when we finally got home he got out of the car, walked to my side, opened the door and helped me out like he always did. I had expected

“You might want to think twice before drinking too much, after all Alexa has lost too much already”. Micheal’s subtle voice came smoothly from behind him. “You said it yourself”. He occupied the stool next to Calan’s and signaled to the bartender.“I’ve only had two”. Calan said quietly. He knew it probably wouldn’t end well for him but he didn’t care at the moment.“And I assure you there’ll be no more”. Micheal said to him. He nodded“Yeah, that’s probably why I had you come here”. He said as he let out a heavy breath. “Alone, I’ll get myself killed before the night is over”. Micheal shook his head.“What’s the problem?”. He asked him just as his shot arrived.“Sore conscience”. Calan replied. “Very, very sore conscience”.Micheal raised the glass to his lips and downed the shot.“What have you done this time?”. He asked him. “And how’s your wife?”. Calan raised his tired gaze to meet his.“She’s better, physically”. He replied. “But I suppose she’s a wreck emotionally, at lea

Third person’s POVCalan had begun sweating profusely and feeling nauseous when he arrived home, nonetheless, he had called Micheal to let him know that he had gotten home in one piece. He had headed to his room at once hoping he was quiet enough to not alert Mildred, however, the older woman soon came hurrying from the kitchen area wearing a worried expression.“Is there a problem, Mildred?”. He asked first hoping to turn the tables on her.“I should be asking you that”. Mildred said. “Why do you like this? And why did you stay out late? Are you feeling alright?”. “I was with Micheal”. He said to her knowing she’d be less worried if she knew he had been with Micheal, the very responsible Micheal who wouldn’t let him do anything stupid. Her gaze raked over him quickly, again and again and again, and she stepped forward and placed her palm on his clammy temple. He watched her eyes flood with worry and he let out a somewhat exasperated breath.“What have you done to yourself?”. She as

Alexa’s POVI couldn’t sleep, whatever sleepiness I had been feeling earlier vanished and I found myself staring at Calan in the dark, found myself worrying about him, found myself praying he would be alright. He had fallen asleep not too long after we had gotten in bed and I was glad, but my heart kept on pounding heavily as I had reached out and touched his temple to feel his temperature; I had found his skin clammy and it worried me more. Not knowing what to do, I inched closer to him and buried my face in his chest hoping that I’d stop worrying and fall asleep, and I was relieved when I felt him drape his arm around me, at least I knew he wasn’t overwhelmed by a fever which rendered him oblivious to his surroundings. I let my eyelids droop and after what seemed like an eternity I drifted off. I’m not sure for how long I had slept, but my eyes fluttered open when I felt movements from beside me, my eyes widened and my heart skipped as I thought for a moment that he hadn’t gotten

Alexa’s POVI had woken up to the sound of an alarm ringing softly, and though the tune was calm and quiet it irritated me more than I could ever express. I begrudgingly pried my eyes open in time to see Calan sleepily reach out and tap on his phone which was on the night stand to turn of the alarm, he let out a heavy breath and for a moment he just lay on his back staring up at the ceilings, and I stared at him, watched him quietly, and I realized that staring at him quelled my irritation.“Good morning”. I greeted quietly. His gaze flickered from the ceiling to mine and the sides of his lips pulled up in a faint smile.“Good morning. Did you sleep well?”. He asked me and I nodded.I had slept well, I may have been worried about him but I had slept well because I had been in his arms, because the soothing fragrance of sandalwood had been with me all through the night.“Are you feeling better?”. I asked him.He looked better, it didn’t seem like he was trying to suppress of hide a fe

Third Person’s POV“That will be all for now, class is dismissed”. The word Alexa had been anticipating finally left the professor’s mouth. She let out a relieved breath as she began packing up her books, it had been a long day for two reasons, the first being because everyone had been staring at her whispering about how she had rolled off a flight of stairs, and the second being because she had wanted to be back home the very second she had stepped a foot into the school. Finally done with the day’s activities, she stuffed her stuff in her backpack, got on her feet and headed out, all the while trying not to mind the fact that people continued to stare and whisper still. Was it truly such a big deal that she had fallen of the stairs and hurt herself? People fell all the time, no one seemed to mind them so why were they so inclined towards making a deal out of the fact she fell? ‘….thought Ren said she was in a coma?’. ‘Well she’s right there, isn’t she?’. She shook her head subtl

Third person’s POVNot much had been said during the drive home or even when they got back, Alexa had gone upstairs to her room, freshened up and had returned to have dinner with Calan. There was just this feeling of wanting to talk about the fact that they had stumbled upon Layla but there seemed to be nothing to say at all. Her heart was all heavy and her confidence had dwindled significantly on seeing Layla, she felt silly to have actually thought Calan would eventually develop feelings for her; Layla was perfect, she was the most flawless lady she had met and she hadn’t been able to get Calan to love her, who was she to get him to love her then?“I thought you were hungry?”. Calan spoke up at last. She realized she had been eating very slowly, the food seemed almost untouched.“I am”. She replied.“Then why aren’t you eating?”. He asked her.“I…am”. He shook his head but said nothing, it was clear that her loss of appetite was the least of his concern at the moment.“Aren’t yo

“Will you be needing anything else sir?”. Rita asked before leaving. Shaking his head, Calan replied;“No, that will be all for now, thank you”. Rita nodded before turning around and heading out. Left alone again, he tried his possible best to focus on his work and nothing else, he didn’t want to think, didn’t want his mind wandering back to Alexa, to Layla and to everyone else he had let down in the cause of his life. It was a new day after all, however retched the previous day had been wouldn’t affect him today if he didn’t allow it.He narrowed his eyes at the screen of his MacBook when he realized that he was zoning out, that he wasn’t truly paying much attention, that he was thinking about the very people he didn’t want to think about. Alexa's POV I had called Sasha before leaving school but she hadn't picked up, and so i had decided to head back home knowing i could always call her or go to her apartment later on. I probably looked downcast as i sat in the living room staring blankly at the tv screen cause Mildred walked up to me looking slightly worried. "Is there a problem, Mildred?". I asked her. And she shook her head. "I was going to ask you the exact same thing". She said to me. "You look rather sad". Lately it was unusual to see me was, i was always happy or at ease since i was mostly with Calan. I wasn't worried about anything except my friends and my exams. I blew out a breath. "I'm fine". I told her. "I just have a thing or two on my mind". She offered me a warm smile. "That's understandable dear". She said to me. "But do talk to someone if something worries you, it's never good to keep it in". I nodded. "Thank you so much". I said to her. She smiled once more before turning around and walking a

Third person POV For some unknown reason, Alexa had woken up the next day feeling completely scared and unprepared for the exams. Perhaps it was due to the fact that she had been feeling too confident about the whole thing yesterday. What if she had been too confident? What if she ended up seeing question she just couldn't answer? She had even been unable to eat her break fast, she had lost her appetite and Calan had noticed. "What's the problem?". He asked her. "I dont know.....". She replied quietly. "I just dont feel prepared for the exams today". He arched a brow slightly. "You went over the whole course handout with Michael yesterday, correct?". He asked her. And she nodded. "And you understood what he taught you?". He asked. Shw nodded once more. "Then that's all that matters". He told her. "You've got this". She cleared her throat quietly. "What....what if i get confused?". She asked him. He shook his head. "Dont think about it now, dont worry about anything". He

Alexa's POv "Why do you look this way?". Calan asked me as he draped his arm around me for a hug which i hadn't known i had needed till now. He placed a lingering kiss on my head before rubbing my back soothingly. "I'm just so tired". I told him. "That's understandable. Did The lectures go well?". He asked me. And i nodded. After my talk with micheal i had felt better, and we had even gone over the last pages. I was all done now and i had never been more confident about writing an exam. "That's good to know*. He said Against my head. "It was worth it". I nodded once more. We were in the parking lot standing leaning against the car almost lazily while the cool evening's breeze blew softly. "I missed you". He told me. And i looked up at him while my cheeks heated up slowly. "I...i missed you too". I told him. "So much". We had spent yesterday indoors in each other's company, he had helped me study and all, and then later on we had lost ourselves in each other's embrace.

Alexa's Point of view How long had it been? Two hours? Three? More? I had lost track during the course of the lesson, and though i was actually understanding Micheal's lectures, i couldn't help but feel really exhausted. I leaned into my seat tiredly and let out a breath as i tried to focus on what he was saying. The fact that i had been sitting in the same spot for more than three hours now didnt help at all, my body felt stiff and almost numb, even my brain was beginning to protest. I hadn't thought he had meant it so much when he had said i wouldnt be leaving till he was convinced i was ready to approach tomorrow's questions. A small groan left me before i could stop myself, and his gaze flickered up to mine. He probably took in the sorry sight i made cause his eyes softened and he also leaned back into his seat. "Tired?". He asked me. And i nodded immediately. He heaved a sigh before rubbing his temple wearily. "Fair enough, we've been on it for some time now". He sa

Alexa's perspective Examinations had started and to say i was stressed out would be an understatement. All the days of skipping school and spacing out in classes where beginning to take their toll on me. I had decided to not leave immediately after i was done with my exam for the day, and so i found myself sitting in the library while trying my very best to go over some of the work Micheal had covered. I groaned almost exasperatedly. I had beenbat this for hours and i still wasn't getting it right, i was beginning to lose my mind now. I was even beginning to think i was losing my mind. The words on the pages were getting all jumbled up and my eyes were getting sore from having stared at the page for so long. I blew out a breath before shaking my head. I would find someone to explain it to me but of course, i had no one. Sasha and Raymond weren't taking the course and so they couldn't help me, and it truly would be embarrassing to me if i failed Micheal's course. My gaze snapped

Third person POV April woke up to the feel of Micheal's fingers combing through her hair tenderly. Her eyes fluttered open and she found him right where he had been before she had fallen asleep, and she took a moment to just stare at him, took a moment to realize that her stomach wasnt killing her anymore. "You're awake". He said to her. She nodded. "You stayed". She said quietly. "Of course". He replied. "Are you feeling better?". "Yeah. Thank you". She replied. He smiled. "That's good to know". He told her. "I was begining to lose my mind". And a faint smile curved her own lips. "I guess we had that in common". She said quietly. He combed his fingers through her hair once more. "Why dont you ever go to the hospital?". He asked her, he was rather serious now. "I hate hospitals". She replied simply. He shook his head. "I do not wish for a next time, but if there is to be one....we're going to the hospital". He told her. She shook her head. "There's no need". She to

Third person's POV How long had it been since she went upstairs? A few hours, and if she wasnt asleep then it was very unlike her to not have come to him. And so, Micheal had decided to go upstairs and check up on her. Of course he had been surprised to see her curled in the middle of the bed looking all disheveled and pained, even the sheets were disheveled. He had hurried to her at once and gathered her into his arms. "Hey". He said as he brushed her hair from her hair softly. "What's wrong?". For a moment he feared she was having an emotional breakdown or something, giving all that had been happening lately. And on seeing the tears streaming down her cheeks, he became even more alarmed. "Cramps". She told him quietly. His eyes widened slightly and he once again brushed her hair from her face. "What can i do to help?". He asked her. A shuddering breath left April and she held onto his arms tightly. She let the fraagrance of sandal wood soothe her. "Hold on to me...".

Third person's POV Cramps.... April had seen the cramps coming, she had known it would be a shitty day ahead. What she hadn't known however was that it would be painful and teary. After breakfast, she had gone up to her room to get some sleep while Micheal had retired to his study to tend to a thing or two. It had started out well, she had managed to numb her thoughts and had even managed to fall asleep. However, she had woken up to the a dull but rather disturbing pain in her stomach. She had assumed it wouldn't get worse, she had assumed it wouldn't intensify and cause her to break down completely. But soon enough she founs herself clutching her stomach while curling herself up in a ball on her bed as tears streaked down her cheeks again and again. It had actually been a while since she had experienced so much pain during her period, it took her back to her days in college. Days in which she'd lie and cry within the walls off her apartment; being a person who didn't have actu

Third person's pov April woke up to the all to familiar feeling of wet warmth pooling in her panties. Her eyes widened as all sleepiness left her. She hastily pushed the cover off her body and climbed out of bed hoping she hadnt made a mess on the sheets.....on Micheal's sheets. The dull light barely penetrating the curtains told her that the sun was just beginning to rise; it meant she had a long day ahead of her, a long day with cramps and moodswings, a long day of being aware of the fact that.....she wasn't pregnant. Micheal's eyes fluttered open slowly on hearing the rustling of silks as April quickly slid on the robe of her night dress. "April? Is there a problem?". He asked her while blinking a couple of times to get rid of the sleepiness. She spun around to face him at once. "I...i need to go to my room". She told him. "Sorry i woke you". He shook his head. "Why are you in such a hurry though?". He asked her. How could she not be in a hurry when she feel the blood no
