No one dared to spend another second there. Everyone scattered, the servants running back to their quarters, and the family members running upstairs to their separate rooms. Heidi sat on her bed, digesting the news of her pregnancy leaked to the media. Her head pounded with a strong headache, and she supported it with both hands, listening to the rapid beating of her heart. What was happening? Why did things keep getting worse? She stood up and paced for a while, wiping her face in frustration. Heidi picked up her phone which was ringing. There were several message notifications from different people, and more text messages flooded in. She contemplated whether to answer the call or not. Then she took a deep breath and answered it. “Hello, Heidi! Girl, you're so full of surprises!” Kate's cheerful voice reverberated inside the phone's speakers. “Where should I start from- Gosh! I'm so excited! You finally agreed to marry my brother!” Heidi didn't say a word. She didn't know
Panic gripped Heidi's heart and she almost dropped the telephone. Before she uttered any word, he'd already hung up from the other end.Her gaze returned to the people whose eyes were pinned on her. She rose to her feet, trying to act normal under their interrogative gazes.“Where are you going?” Grandpa Jeffery asked.Heidi didn't know which excuse to come up with. Added to the fear inside her was the confusion about what to say.“Grandpa…” She murmured. “There's an emergency-”“If it's about the company, today's the weekend.” Grandpa Jeffery stared at her cautiously. “And we'll spend the whole day discussing your wedding plans with Mr. Anderson and his wife.”“No, I mean hospital. I'd like to discuss something important with Dr. Shawn-”“Which Dr. Shawn?” Her mother butted in. “Let's invite the family's doctor so he can check on you.”“Mum, this is urgent!” Heidi sighed. “I promise I'll only go to the hospital.”“Steve is on his way here, let him take you,” said her grandfather.Hei
It was a surprise how Grandpa Winston could detect something was wrong. But not her family or her Grandfather. “Please get better soon, okay?” Heidi patted his hand. “Your health matters.” “I can pretend nothing is happening, but I can't forget the pain. To be honest, Heidi, I don't want you to go. I feel my Grandson loves you with all his heart, won't you come back to him?” “Grandpa-” “If you need help in saving the AG Group, you don't need to go to someone else. Always know that I'll be here for you. Even if Lucas Harrison doesn't want to help, I will do everything in my power to help you.” “Heidi, if you don't love that boy, you don't need to force yourself,” Grandpa Winston went on. “Even if you no longer love my Grandson too, get married to someone you love.” Despite roaming freely, Heidi felt trapped in an invisible dungeon. Her mind screamed to let out the truth, convinced it might lead to her freedom. Sitting inside the ward alone with Grandpa Winston, she had this sens
Heidi's first instinct was to take to her heels and run the instant she left the car.The huge guy, however, seemed to be prepared for that. She brought up her wrist and stared at her wristwatch. Damn! Lucas Harrison was going to get her into another trouble. When she entered the building, the doors automatically closed by themselves.Heidi blew out a tired sigh, rolling her eyes. “Please, for goodness sake! Will you not leave me alone, Lucas?”The walls echoed her voice, making her shudder. “Lucas-”His heavy footsteps sounded from the stairs. Exhausted and exasperated, Heidi strode towards him and dropped both hands on her waist. “You are beginning to get good at this-”“And you're beginning to get good at lying.” Lucas seized her by the arm, pulling her close to him. “Heidi, I have told you… enough with your pranks.”“Lucas Harrison-”“That news is a lie!” His eyes narrowed. “You are not pregnant for Steve Anderson. I want to believe that the news is all part of your scheme to m
Heidi left the Villa, devastation mixed with a feeling of guilt eating at her heart. Why did she feel guilty, by the way?Could she even admit to Lucas that it was his baby if Steve hadn't been the big obstacle on her path? She walked down the empty street of the neighborhood, taking in the familiarity of the place she'd once resided. The Harrison's Villa stood far behind, and Heidi glanced backward now and then as if expecting him to chase after her. He'd always done that after all. Why would he, anyway, when he now hated her?Wasn't that what she wanted? That he got off her back? Her legs felt numb from walking for too long.Unable to bear the heat from the sun either, Heidi sat under the shade of a tree by the roadside. Her phone kept beeping with phone calls and text messages from Steve. She ignored them and was about to dial John's number when Isla's call came in. “It's the weekend, Isla. What's up? Did any problem arise at the company?”Because that was the only news Heidi g
He peered at her, searching her eyes as if trying to solve a puzzle.“Hey, don't give me that look…” Heidi pursed her lips. “No questions. Just take me there.”Zach started the car, his eyes darting to her cautiously. “You know well that pregnant ladies aren't supposed to drink.”“I'm not gonna drink anything, so relax,” Heidi replied. “Well, what's the use of going to a bar when you're not gonna drink?”“Zach, I said no questions.”“Hey, Little Sis. You do remember that you owe me an explanation.”“About what?”“Your pregnancy.” He gestured towards her stomach. “Wait, I think I know why.”“You do?” Heidi asked.Zach gave her a look that spelled ‘It is all obvious'“Isn’t it to spite Lucas Harrison?” He laughed. “The scumbag knocked up his mistress, and to get back at him, you got pregnant as well. What a nice strategy for revenge. The look on his face will be so priceless!”His words were supposed to be funny, inciting laughter from Heidi…Well, she found nothing funny at all. When
Zach's expression transformed into a carefree one. He stood up and patted Steve's shoulder. “Don't get too excited. Heidi has not become your wife yet.”“But she'll soon be-” Steve smiled. He hadn't finished speaking when Zach delivered a punch across his face.“Son of a b*tch!” Zach kicked him. “How dare you knock my baby sis up? Even Lucas Harrison didn't dare to do that! Steve Anderson, aren't you so gutsy?”Heidi sprang to her feet, taken aback by Zach's reaction.“Hey, Zach, stop it.” She pulled at his arm before he delivered his next punch at Steve. “Let me at him, Heidi!” Zach pushed her aside. “He's a man, he shouldn't have taken such a matter lightly even though you wanted to get back at Lucas Harrison. He's insulting the Olsens Family, now we're the laughingstock of the media because of him!”Zach didn't hold back as he kicked and punched the guy to his satisfaction.Heidi didn't bother to stop him. Somehow, seeing Steve beaten up, she felt satisfied. Zach finally left him
'No. No. Zach!’Heidi's mind screamed, her heart threatening to burst out.She slapped off his hand and attacked him, beating at his chest and yelling, “Monster! Maniac! Criminal!”She wailed. “Steve Anderson, what the hell are you? How could you- What did Zach do wrong?”Steve grabbed both her hands, immobilizing her. “Zach Olsen has himself to blame.”“Smack!”Heidi slapped him hard, the red marks of her fingers outlining his cheek. “You're a monster! I hate you! I wish we'd never met! What in the world did I do to deserve this?”“Stay put!” He commanded. “Or I'll make you regret it! You want more death, so be it!”Scared and devastated, a sharp pain sliced through Heidi's stomach, forcing her to cease her frantic movements. She sat properly, her shoulders trembling, and more tears dropping from her eyes. No. The Skyline Bar was intact. Nothing happened, nothing was destroyed.Zach must be fine.Steve resumed driving, rubbing the side of his cheek. “Be grateful you're in this cond

Heidi sprang to a sitting position instantly, hearing the voice coming from the door. Dread washed over, and instinctively, she pulled her baby into her arms, her eyes darting around for any possible escape route. Heidi's first instinct was to flee, but to where?“Daddy?” Her daughter, on the other hand, jumped in excitement. “Hey, Mommy! It's Daddy! Daddy's here!”The door's handle shifted as someone juggled it from the outside. The sounds of knocking increased. “Heidi, are you inside?”Lost at what to do, Heidi just stared at the door, hugging her baby. Lucas barged into the room as he kicked the door open. He came to a screeching halt right in front of her, almost colliding into the bed. “Heidi…” as he whispered her name, Heidi's eyes locked into his. Except for the subtle changes; his once dark eyes now crystal clear, his stubbled jaws and overall demeanor, everything about him was the same. Tears pricked at her eyes and her heart hurt tremendously, wondering how she'd been a
All eyes turned to Harold, some blinking in shock and the rest widening. Heidi was confused too that of all people, Harold Olsen was the one who believed her.But from the look of guilt on his face and the way he sank onto the floor, literally kneeling in front of her, something was definitely fishy. “Heidi, please forgive me.”Heidi flinched when he held her knees. She stared at him, frowning. “Forgive you for what, Uncle?”“What did you do Dad!?” Zach hollered, his eyes filled with horror. The others looked fearful as well.Hanging his head, Harold shook it slowly. “I know saying this is probably too late. That night, Heidi didn't lose her child. When the police found her and Natalie, I orchestrated everything that happened after.”Several gasps spread across the room.Avoiding everyone's gaze, Harold said in a melancholic tone. “Having Heidi and Lucas Harrison together at that time meant the end of my sovereignty in this family. I did that to strip Heidi of her position- and…” He
All eyes snapped in Heidi's direction. As her sobs echoed in the living room, they all but sprang to their feet. “Ha! How many times have I told you guys to stop mentioning Heidi's name?” Lilian cried out. “Now I'm seeing Heidi's face instead of this lady who appeared from nowhere with a child!”“Are you seeing Heidi? I'm also seeing her!” Natalie gasped. “That's impossible, right?”“Unless we're all out of our minds!” Kate cackled. “Because we all might be seeing Heidi.”Lifting her head, Heidi glanced at everyone's face. Her gaze stopped at her mother whose expression was deadly pale. “Th- This- This isn't Heidi. My Heidi's dead!”Shaking her head, the woman staggered backward. “Who the hell summoned Heidi's ghost?”Her mother fainted immediately after saying that, and the whole room was thrown into chaos. Heidi shot to her feet, holding her baby tight, racing to the spot. Under the family's watchful gazes, she sat beside her mother, shaking her. “Mum! I'm not a ghost! I've come
~During the car ride, Heidi's mind was muddled with different kinds of thoughts that brought worry to her heart. Her only solace was the little girl sitting beside her, holding her hand. “You're so quiet, Mommy…” she asked, “Is everything alright?”Heidi smiled, parting her hair to the side. “I'm okay, Baby.”“Where are we headed?” She murmured, glancing out of the car's window. “You brought me back, Mommy. Are you gonna drop me off at Nanny's place and disappear again.”Smoothing the tiny frown on the girl's forehead, Heidi's heart ached as she kept repeating that word. Disappearing hadn't be easy, and appearing again would definitely incure many repercussions. Heidi picked her up and sat her on her lap, hugging her. “I'd rather die than to disappear again.”Here she was, loathing death, something she'd actually been craving for the past three years. Her heart was an ocean of emotions and her tears never dried up, so much that her eyes were hurting. “Please, Mommy, stop crying
“For the first time, I'm agreeing with Jason's words.” Freya nodded. “Let's return her to the poor man, Heidi. She's not lost.”“Please don't let them take me away, Mommy.” The little girl hugged Heidi's arm. “I promise I'll be obedient. We'll stay in this paradise forever.”“Don't mind them, I won't let you go.” Heidi patted her hair. She stared at Jason and Freya, communicating with her eyes. The two gave her crestfallen looks and sighed at the same time. That Night;Heidi rested on her bed, holding the baby close, and sniffing the familiar scent on her. Citrus mixed with lavender. The scent of the Harrisons Villa. A scent that only belonged to the man she loved. Whenever she thought of him in the past, she'd feel hate and remorse, but now… the thought of him brought fear to her heart, and a regret she couldn't deny. Beside her, the little girl shifted. She opened her sleepy eyes, her wide milky eyes blinking. “Why aren't you sleeping, Mommy?”“I just love staring at you.” H
From caressing the girl's hair, Heidi found herself drawing her close, wrapping her in a gentle embrace. “What's your name?” Uncertainty filling her heart, she asked in a hoarse voice. The little girl neither struggled nor made a sound of discomfort, she in fact snuggled deeper into Heidi's embrace. She murmured, “Nanny calls me Didi, but Daddy calls me Heidi.”Heidi shut her eyes, swallowing down a sudden lump in her throat. A soft laughter escaped her lips. “That's a beautiful name you have, Baby.”However, the little girl pulled away, furrowing her brows. “But my first Mommy dislikes it. She once argued with Daddy about it.”“Oh, is that so?” Sniffing back the tears threatening to burst out, Heidi forced a smile. “Why doesn't she like your name?”“Because she's a meanie. Nanny said she made my Mommy disappear.” The girl blew out a sigh, her tone gloomy. “But Daddy promised she won't bother us anymore.”Heidi didn't know where to keep her emotions. She just didn't want to cry in f
“A kid means no harm. Relax, Heidi.” Jason patted her shoulder. “That pilot must be her father.”Heidi sat on the couch. “Now let me get to work! I'll see to it that that man is taught a lesson for crossing my number one rule of this Island! No tourists are allowed with a helicopter!”As Jason matched out of the room, Freya snickered. “He's doing a bad job managing this place. Too bad none of us can be in charge.”Under the pretense of working for the AG Group and managing the resorts here, Jason had moved to the mystic Island to be with her. One coincidence led to the guy clinging onto her.Driven by curiosity, he'd wandered into this cabin on a particular day, which was rumored to be haunted, and that was how he found her and Freya. Wondering if Jason was going to send the father and daughter back even though she didn't like that idea, Heidi carried on with her day, taking a walk down the empty beach separated from the resort’s area. The Island ahead was like an abandoned old ca
… Waking up the next morning to a foreboding feeling in her chest was enough sign that her peaceful days on this Island were over. The moment she opened her eyes, someone hugged her. “What am I gonna do with you, Heidi…” Freya murmured. “An emotional outburst can cause you a second heart attack, and that will be the end of us. Our days of hiding here will be over… we'll need to go to any nearby city for your treatment, and the police won't have mercy once they catch me.”Heidi sighed inside. Did she faint last night? Her only cure was ultimate happiness, something she doubted she was ever going to find on this Island or anywhere in this world. “If I have a heart attack someday, don't bother yourself, Freya… let me die and-”“Please, Heidi… stop it,” Freya whispered. “How dare you wish death upon yourself? You're the nicest person I've ever met; I fell for a villain and almost let him slip away, I lost my job and was about to lose my life but you saved me even though we never kne
