The entire forest sounded as though it knew my thoughts. Not a single bird was chirping. I kept my head down as I ran. I could hear them getting closer, they were closing in around me. “Faster!” I yelled at myself. I had to get away, to be caught would be like death. My paws dug into the soft ground throwing bits of mud behind me as I ran. I could feel them getting closer, run! Don’t stop. As I reached the clearing, a large grey wolf jumped in front of me, his lips curled back revealing his razor-sharp teeth.
I ran forward towards the wolf, nothing would stop me, I would survive just like I always did. I leaped forward crashing into the snarling wolf. Teeth and fur were all I could see. He whimpered as I sank my teeth into his leg. I could taste the warm blood as it squirted into my mouth. He let out a pained whimper but kept fighting.
The other wolves who were chasing me caught up. They stopped and stood watching the battle before them. We continued to bite and claw each other. As the other wolf lunged at me again, I ducked, and he sailed over me. As he landed trying to get his bearings, I jumped on him causing him to flip and land on his back. This was it, my chance. I lunged at him before he realized what was happening, I pinned him to the ground and held his throat with my teeth.
Someone grabbed me from behind. “Come on, you win, again. Now let him up.” The familiar voice was my Beta. He was always telling me to go easy on my warriors. As I stood up, I shifted into my human form, the anger evident on my face.
“Why did you stop me? I wasn’t going to kill him!” I could feel my annoyance at being stopped before teaching this warrior a lesson.
Barrett smiled knowing he was going to get an earful about this. “Ok, I know you wouldn’t but, I think the warriors need a break. He gestured at the tired-looking men standing behind him. They had all shifted and thrown on shorts. They were muddy and sweaty; they resembled a group of soldiers returning from battle. I rolled my eyes.
“How can we be sure our territory is safe if I can still get away every time?” I snarled.
“Myla, they are the best-trained warriors in the world. Now please, put some clothes on.”
I looked down realizing I was still stark naked. “Fine. Bunch of wimps.” All my warriors were looking down. “You would think they have never seen me naked before,” I rolled my eyes in annoyance as I pulled my sports bra over my head and slipped on a pair of shorts. I spun around looking at them, “You are all dismissed. You did good but, tomorrow, we will go over the places we need more work.” With that, I waved my hand to dismiss them. Turning back to Barrett, I caught him snickering. “Something funny?” I snap still annoyed that he interrupted my training exercise.
“Alpha, you need to go easy on them sometimes. They are the greatest warriors of any pack.”
“Yeah, I know but they are only the best because I have made them that way.” I knew he was right but, I couldn’t let him know that. Barrett and I have been best friends since we were pups. He is as loyal as they come. When I became Alpha of my pack, it was only natural that he become my Beta. “Tomorrow, we will only do 20 miles instead of the usual 30, that should give them a rest.”
“Man, I pity whoever it may be that is your mate. If you are this hard on your warriors, I can only imagine how you will be to the man the Moon Goddess made for you.” Barrett laughed as he shook his head.
“Says you!” I snapped back. “You found your mate and look; she is your boss!” I chuckle at the expression on his face. My friend Jade had always had such a huge crush on Barrett growing up. She had always seemed a bit jealous of our relationship. When we turned 18, many people thought Barrett would be my mate. I knew he wasn’t. It would have been too weird if he was. When we had gone to find Jade, like we always did, Barrett nearly lost his mind when he found her scent. ‘Mate,’ he had yelled and taken off to find the source of the scent. I had followed behind wanting to see who it was that he was tracking. When he stopped at Jade and they looked at each other, I couldn’t have been happier. They both shouted ‘Mate!’ before locking lips. I shook my head as I thought about that day. I was truly happy for them both. Jade had always been like a sister to me. Barrett knew she had always had a crush on him, he had always liked her too, so it was a perfect match when they ended up being mates. That was 3 years ago. They have been inseparable since.
Barrett’s voice brought me out of my thoughts. “You know, Jade and I, we are trying to have a pup.” He looked down as if he had just said something to insult me.
“That is amazing news!” I was genuinely happy for them. Barrett would be such an awesome dad and Jade is destined to be a mother.
Barrett’s face lit up. “Thank the Goddess you are happy for us, I was worried you would be,” his voice trailed off as though he was afraid to finish his thought.
“Jealous? You were afraid I would be jealous, right?” I shot him a warning glance.
“Well, it’s just that, you know, you are Alpha and well, you still haven’t found your mate.” I could feel the worry rolling off him in waves.
“Of course, I am not jealous! Finding my mate has never been a priority for me, you know that better than anyone.” I did want to find my mate but, I would never tell him that. I could just imagine what would happen. He would have any unmated males found and brought here to see if they could be my mate. The entire pack wanted me to find my mate. I think they secretly hoped it would mellow me out, make me a bit less intense and less interested in training. Boy, are they wrong. Finding my mate was not a high priority because I had more important duties to attend to. Leading my pack and making sure they were trained properly is at the top of my list. I said goodbye to Barret and headed up to the packhouse. Barrett heading away. Being my Beta and best friend, I had a house built within the pack lands for Jade and Barrett as a wedding gift. Being werewolves, we didn’t need to do the whole wedding ceremony thing. We marked and mated each other which was all we needed but, we liked to celebrate by having a “wedding”. It was just an excuse for a big party. Who doesn’t like a party?
When I reached the packhouse, I could hear the commotion from inside. “Her breasts look better than ever,” one guy said.
Another responded, “Don’t forget that ass!”
“Too bad Barrett missed his chance!” another chuckled.
I stood there, the anger pouring off me like waves crashing into the shore in a storm. I ripped open the door causing everyone to freeze. The silence which followed was deafening.
My eyes changed from their brilliant green to the freighting amber of my wolf and then back again. “Who are you talking about?” I asked through gritted teeth. Everyone in the room stayed silent. “Tell me!!” I roared loud enough to cause everyone present to bear their necks to me, a sign of submission amongst us wolves. I stalked forward as if I may kill each one. I grabbed the closest one, lifting him off the ground by his shirt. “Who are you talking about?” I demanded holding him off the ground.
“Um, ah, we were,” he dropped his head scared to speak. “We weren't talking about anyone,” he stammered.
I dropped him to the ground. “Why? Why do you keep going back to this?” I didn’t bother to hide my irritation. Of course, they said they weren't talking about anyone. They always did when I caught them talking about me. I stepped back from the wolf still on the floor, afraid to move. “Fine, have your fun,” I growled at them. Let’s see how much fun it is tomorrow when you do fifty miles!” I sneered as I turned to leave.
I headed up the stairs to my suite. I had the top floor of the packhouse all to myself. I slammed the door and stalked off towards my room. I stripped off my sweaty clothes and headed straight for the shower. A while later, I lay in my bed still angry but willing sleep to come.
Reiner’s POV
Why was this so difficult? I didn’t want some stupid whore in my bed. I wanted my mate. None of these whores would ever measure up to her, I was sure of it.
“Alpha, please.” She begged.
Man, I hate beggars. “No. Get out!” I roared using my alpha tone. The girl standing naked before me shook. I could smell her fear as I watched her grab her clothes and bolt out the door. I slammed the door behind her. I would have to have a “chat” with my second tomorrow. I walked to my bed and ripped the sheets off. They smelled like whore. Going to my closet, I grabbed the extra set I kept there for these times. I threw them on the bed and set to work making it feel like my bed again. I fluffed up my pillows and plopped down. I yanked the covers up still fuming from tonight’s events. He would pay for this.
The next day, I threw on my favorite pair of basketball shorts before heading down to find my Beta. Chase was seated next to the window as always. He looked up and smiled seeing me walking towards him.
“Hey, did you get the gift I sent you?” he asked, a sly grin spread across his face.
“Yeah, I got it,” I said in a low tone.
“Well? How was it?” he asked looking hopeful.
“It was nothing. It didn’t happen. I had to change the sheets to get rid of the stink.” I glared at him.
He looked down, pushing his breakfast around the plate. “Sorry Alpha. A couple of the guys and I thought it was time you found someone to, you know. Have fun with?” He tried to look sincere. “Sydney came, um, highly recommended.” He winked at me hoping I would let it go.
As I took my seat, my breakfast was brought over. The girl bringing it nearly dropped it as she caught the look on my face. “Alpha, Beta,” she stammered, “Please let me know if there is anything I can do.” She flashed me a seductive smile.
“Thank you. You can go now.” I dismissed her without looking at her. These girls made me sick. Just because I am the Alpha and not mated, they think I will take one of them as my mate. Nope. I will not settle for just anyone. I know she is out there. I know she is just as fierce as I. Only she will satisfy me. My mate. My precious mate.
Please leave a review and vote if you are enjoying She's the Alpha! Thank you!
Myla’s POV I woke with a strange feeling in my stomach. Hunger? No. Fear? I laughed as I dismissed the idea. No. This is something else. Something telling me to be prepared. I hopped out of bed wishing I could take a day off. I never let anyone from my pack know that every once in a while, I would like a day off to just be a girl. The other girls would go shopping, hang out, and just do things that most girls enjoy I always felt left out. I have to admit, shopping is not something I like or even want to do but, if it gave me time to spend with my girlfriends, then I would go. No, not me. I am the Alpha; I am feared by most of the male Alphas in the neighboring packs. They knew just by reputation to not mess with me. They called me the Alpha Bitch, the Monster Alpha, oh, and my favorite, The Alpha of Death. Then again, some had started calling me the Bitter Alpha. I hated that one. They thought it was fun to tease me by calling me bitter since I had yet to find my mate. Most of them th
Reiner’s POV I rolled my eyes at the two women sitting across from me. “Why do you care if he is missing?” I snapped. I couldn’t help it. Going to another wedding while I remained mate less just rubbed salt in the already raw wound. The two women looked at each other both equally worried. “We apologize for bothering you, Alpha. It’s just, that he was our sister’s son. He is all we have left of her. Please Alpha, please help us find him.” Their eyes teared and they looked tired, as though they hadn’t slept in a very long time. The pack had returned two days ago but, their nephew was not there. “Yes, of course,” I answered trying to hide my annoyance. “I will send out warriors to find him. They should have him home by dinner.” I tried my best to sound optimistic despite my sour mood. I usually tried to show compassion but today showing anything, but aggravation was hard. The two women shared glances before standing up. “Thank you, Alpha, you are most generous.” They both left quickly
Myla’s POV I led Cobalt to the packhouse. People whispered as we strolled by trying to guess why I had such a young boy following me to the packhouse instead of the jail. Finally, Barrett’s voice came through the pack link, “Alpha, has it happened? Have you found your mate?” The excitement in his voice irritated me. “No,” I answered back not bothering to hide my annoyance. "76I found a member of the Moon Eclipse pack lost on my territory. I am doing the honorable thing by offering him safe refuge while we make arrangements to return him to his pack.” I could feel the disappointment through the pack link. “Oh, ok, I will get a guest room ready.” With that, I closed the link. I opened the door to the packhouse and stepped aside letting Cobalt enter. On a table next to the door was a fresh pair of basketball shorts. “Here, put these on,” I said handing them to Cobalt who was looking around in astonishment. “Wow, this place is beautiful,” he chirped excitedly. “Our packhouse is so dar
Myla's POV “Unknown Wolf Approaching! Warriors to the tree line! Protect the Alpha!” Wade’s voice echoed through the pack link. Wade is the captain of my warriors. He is one of the best fighters I have ever seen. I cringed as his words rang through my mind. “Protect the Alpha,” I didn’t need protecting, I could protect myself. Without another thought, I ran toward the tree line, shifting as I ran. My clothes tore as my huge wolf took control. I ran through the trees twisting and turning easily around trees and leaping the underbrush as I ran. I reached the circle of warriors who had surrounded the wolf responsible for all the commotion. I entered the circle and shifted, “shift and identify yourself,” I commanded using my Alpha tone. No wolf except another Alpha could resist the Alpha tone. The wolf did as I said. I took a deep breath as the small wolf shifted into a small girl. She couldn’t be much older than 15. “Identify yourself,” I commanded regaining my composure. “Please, ple
I headed to the exit, I heard it charge. It moved so silently that I wouldn’t have heard it if it wasn’t for my Alpha hearing. I spun around shifting before colliding with the body of the intruder. He was heavy, I stumbled back as his form slammed into me. Snarls and teeth-gnashing filled the air. I would not let this creature win. I bit down hard on his leg causing him to howl in pain. He jumped back a bit before charging me again. This time, I leaped into the air as he tried to slam into my body. I landed on his back. Sinking my teeth into the back of his neck, he roared as he tried to shake me off. He fell as he tried to grab me with his huge jaws again. When he hit the ground, I sank my teeth into his back, a large crack echoed through the air as his spine snapped severing his spinal cord. He yelped knowing he was going to die. Not wasting a moment, I grabbed his throat with my teeth. Shaking my head viciously, I tore his throat out. Spitting out the mix of blood and fur, I pante
Reiner POV Voicemail again. Was this Alpha purposely ignoring my phone calls? I slammed the phone down. I suppose I deserve this; I did ignore her, and Chase gave her that awful excuse. I picked up a stack of papers waiting for my signature. Oh well, I would try again. I had been signing papers for a few hours when my phone started ringing. Ah good, she was finally calling me back. “Hello Alpha Reiner speak,” I greeted everyone this way. I couldn’t hide my disappointment when a male voice responded. “Good afternoon, Alpha, my name is Greg Peters. I am the organizer putting together the Alpha summit this year. As you know the alpha summit will be taking place in the shadow pack territory this year. Due to recent events, I have been asked to extend an invitation to all those who do not usually attend. The alliances have decided that the Alpha Summit this year will be mandatory. Failure to attend will result in a termination of all agreements with alliances and a
Myla POVWhat the hell was that about? Did that jerk really just ask me to sleep with him? Grrr! Alphas are all the same! They think they will get any woman because they are alphas well, I’m an Alpha too! Just wait till the Alpha Summit, I will teach him to mess with me. I could feel my wolf scratching at the surface. Calm down I told myself. He isn’t worth the trouble. I could still feel the anger rolling off me in waves. I stood up heading towards the door. The best way to let off some steam? Workout. A few hours later, I felt somewhat better. I wiped the sweat off my face as I headed up the stairs to my suite. As I entered the main lobby, I heard the sound of laughter. I listened to find the source. It was coming from the dining hall. Quietly I made my way to the door. I peered around the corner to see Cobalt and Layla laughing like old friends on the stage. Cobalt was reciting some bad Shakespeare and Layla was laughing hysterically. They didn’t notice me
Reiner’s POV Driving through the pack lands of the famed Alpha Myla showed me why she was so revered. Her territory was huge. Square miles, it was bigger than mine by about 10%. I watched as we passed beautiful farmlands and amazing forests with trees taller than any I had seen before. The tall guard sitting across from me was intimidating even to an Alpha like me. “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name,” I offered trying to at least be polite. “That’s because I didn’t tell you,” he grumbled not moving his gaze from my face. “Tough crowd,” Chase said from the seat next to me. He had insisted on coming along claiming he need to find “fresh hotties”. I wasn’t sure that was such a great idea. “We will be arriving in five minutes,” the driver announced. He was also a guard but, at least he was a bit less intimidating. As we drove down the cobblestone street, we passed groups of wolves training. Some were sparring, other
The body was a twisted mess. If I didn't know it was a werewolf, I would think someone had slaughtered something. My stomach lurched as I did all I could to keep from being sick. "Alpha, you should go, I will inform you as soon as I find anything." Doc watched me hoping he would not have a mess to clean up from me. "Doc, Myla knows we have a body but I would like to spare her the details. I would appreciate it if we could keep her out of here." I knew Doc would agree but I felt I should confirm we were on the same page. I made my way out of the morgue, I needed to be away from the smell of death. When I stepped out into the afternoon sun, the fresh air calmed me. I knew I needed to consider all possibilities. I walked along the road back to the packhouse. I wanted to be with my mate and our daughter. I needed to know they were safe. Seeing the ferocity of the attack left me with an urge to hunt down those responsible. When I got closer to the packhouse, I heard laughter coming fro
Reiner's POVI watched her look around for a minute. “Daddy, I have the pan and the sauce, what do I do now?”“Well, you let me help,” I said rolling up my sleeves. My favorite meal was stuffed shells. My mother had taught me to make them. I thought about how happy she would be if she knew I was teaching my daughter the secret recipe she had taught me all those years ago. I showed Evie the steps to make it. A while later, we pulled the food out of the oven. It smelled divine. Evie set the table. I got out the salad we had made earlier and the cheesy garlic bread. The whole place smelled like a gourmet Italian restaurant. I was about to send Evie to get Myla when she came in.“That smells divine! I am so hungry; I think I could eat the whole tray!” she exclaimed.Evie giggled. “Mommy, you would explode!” Myla laughed with her. The sound of their laughter made my heart skip a beat. The only thing that would complete this moment would be holding my son. After we ate dinner, we promised
Reiner’s POVAs I looked at the photos with Myla, I could feel the anger bubbling up. They had hurt her, tortured her, and kept her chained to a wall as they took photos of her! What kind of sick perverts are these psychos? The Alpha Summit had been difficult, to say the least. Then, some sicko sends her these. I swear when I find them, I am going to torture them before I kill them. “Myla, why do you call them the others?” “I call them the others because that’s what they called themselves.”I wonder why they would call themselves the others. “I am going to have my tech guys trace the email to figure out where it came from. Hopefully, it will provide some clues.” We landed about an hour later. Myla was quiet the rest of the flight. I assumed she was exhausted. As we left the jet, Barrett hopped out of the waiting car holding Evie. “Myla, Reiner, welcome home!” He smiled happily. “We have missed you!”Myla lit up as her eyes landed on our
Myla's POV Reiner rubbed my back as Beverly continued to hug me. After another minute, she looked at me. “You are amazing Myla. Don’t you ever forget it. If you ever need me, please contact me, ask me to come to you, come to me, I will not let Dominic keep me from you like he kept me from your mother. I owe her that.” “I will,” I promised. We talked about other things for another couple of hours. I was sad when Beverly left. Reiner sat next to me. “Are you ok Babe? I know it isn’t easy to talk about any of that.” “I’m ok. I am tired though.” It had been a long day. I needed a nap. I stretched and then stood up to go lie down. Sam and Wade were looking at me with some foreign expression. When I was in my room, Reiner came in with a glass of water. He set it on the table next to me. “Hey, what’s with them?” I was confused by their look. He smiled proudly. “They have always respected you, but now that they know what you have been through, they not only respect you as their Alpha, b
Myla's POV I sat happily waiting for the meeting to start. My little baby bump was getting lots of attention from the Lunas. I could only imagine what the other Alphas were thinking. Luna Beverly, Alpha Dominic’s mate asked if she could feel the baby. She had been waiting for grand pups, but her son and her daughter had both decided to wait. We chatted as her mate made his opening speech. “You are absolutely precious dear. I wish I had been brave enough to wear comfortable things when I was pregnant. Instead, I was taught to dress appropriately regardless of how I felt. Don’t ever let someone change you.” She smiled sadly. “Silence please,” Alpha Dominic boomed through the speakers. “We have with us, the lead investigator who has been combing through evidence trying to find the one responsible for all of the attacks. A frail-looking older gentleman stepped on stage. He stood next to Alpha Dominic looking around as if hoping he would notice something. “Ladies and gentlemen, please
Myla’s POV The doors closed and I was alone. I didn’t care too much because I can take care of myself. As the elevator reached the second floor, Alpha Gill stepped on. I didn’t say anything. He pushed the button for three. I tried to remember what floor he had got out on last night. He stood between me and the control panel. I watched in horror as he pushed the emergency stop. The alarm went off. He turned to face me as he spoke. “You should have listened Myla. I would have been a good mate. Our pack would have been unstoppable if you had listened to me.” He growled. I could see his canines sinking from his gums as fur sprouted on his knuckles. “Let me out,” I growled my own canines appearing. I couldn’t shift as it is too dangerous for the baby, but maybe I could intimidate him. “No, you ruined my plans to control the most powerful pack there is.” His eyes turned black as more fur sprang out. “Let me out now!” I tried my Alpha command on him. He laughed. “Your pitiful Alpha com
Reiner's POVI looked through the council records to find a list of allies. The only way the packs would agree to a council is with total transparency. All council records were accessible by all the Alphas. The members of the council could only serve for 2 consecutive years. If no one ran for a seat that was becoming vacant, it would simply sit empty. The Alpha Summit was put in place for the Alphas of all the packs to be able to discuss issues with land or borders, problems between packs, attacks, or threats. I looked at the clock. It was nearly 6. The banquet starts at seven. I stretched, pushing back in the chair, I stood up to wake up Myla. I opened the door to find she was awake.“Hey, would you grab my dress from the closet?”She sounded tired. I couldn’t blame her. She had been through a lot recently. I went to the closet to get it. “Which one is for tonight?”“The black one, with the long sleeves.”I carefully moved her clothes around. “What shoes do you want?” I might as wel
Reiner’s POV I watched Evie excitedly jumping around with all her new toys. I may have gone a bit overboard, but Evie deserves to be spoiled. She is the daughter of two powerful Alphas. We lost a lot of time with her. I know buying stuff won’t change it but now that I know about her, I won’t ever leave her. If I want to spoil her, I will.Myla stood watching her. I could feel her happiness through the bond. I never knew I could love someone as much as I loved the three of them. I know my son isn’t here yet, but I love him already.Later that night, lying in bed with Myla, I asked what names she liked for a boy.She rolled over to face me. “I was thinking Reiner Jr.” she smiled.“No. The world can only handle one of me. I was thinking about naming him after Barrett’s father. After all, he played a huge part in your life.”“I am honored you want to name him after him. He did a lot for me. I think I am the alpha I am today because of him.” She looked as though she was rememb
Myla’s POV I couldn’t understand, why didn’t Doc and Reiner just tell me the truth? I wasn’t going to break. I am a different person than the scared little girl who stopped talking for a year. When Reiner explained he had been tricked too. I wanted to find those responsible and rip out their throats. It hit me like a ton of bricks. The little girl I had grown to love is mine, she is my flesh and blood, born from something stolen from me. I would never blame Evie. She is the most innocent one in all of this. I suddenly needed to hold her, to tell her who I really am. She was chasing birds. I took off running to her. I scooped her up and held her to me. I could feel her heartbeat against my chest. My little girl. The little girl stolen from me. I was tortured for her to live. At that moment, I knew it didn’t matter. She is mine. “I love you my little Evie.” She looked at me funny. “I know, I love you too mommy.” She hugged me tightly. Reiner caught up to us, wrapping himse
