Turbulence and Bitterness

I woke up in the hospital feeling very dizzy, when I looked around there was no one next to me. Just then the doctor came up, he looked at me cautiously.

“Ma'am you should avoid stress from now on” he said calmly and I looked at him, shock on my face.

“What happened to my babies?” I asked almost immediately.

“I'm sorry, you lost one of the children but we made sure to keep one safely” he said and walked out.

I closed my eyes as pain and dread washed over me. Giovanni didn't even know about our children and now one was dead? As tears rolled down my eyes I stumbled outside, Matteo waited for me and when he looked at me, his gaze held compassion in them.

“How did I get here?” I asked him.

“Madame, you passed out from the shock I think, so I had to rush you here to the hospital?” He said and I looked at him, raising a brow.

“Was my husband aware that I passed out?” I asked, it couldn't be, he wouldn't have known, if not he would run to me and apologize.

Matteo seemed to understand what I was thinking and shook his head.

“He didn't even bat an eye while you were being rushed”

My heart sank as realization dawned on me, everything that was said had been true. He really killed my father and deceived me to take over the legacy.

My eyes stung but I refused a tear from falling.

My father had died because of him and now my baby…

When I got home, I still couldn't contain the impact of what had happened to me. As I neared our bedroom I began hearing muffled moans and with a start I realized that it was coming from my husband and Lily.

Without thinking I burst into the room to find them perplexed.

“What is wrong with you?” Giovann, my husband yelled at me. The sight before my eyes made me want to throw up. My husband stood up naked and sweaty.

“You are back from the hospital so soon?”

I blinked without answering.

“Good, now you will watch us, isn't that what you wanted to do?”

I watched with dread as he went back to Lily who smiled at him seductively.

“Don't you dare leave” He commanded.

“It's thrilling and forbidden to have you watch” He said.

Tears slipped down my eyes and I rushed out of the room. I couldn't bear it and would rather die and take all the punishment than watch them.

When they finished, I was called and scolded, I held my belly shivering. Now I stood rooted in the kitchen. Giovanni had asked me to bring them something to eat.

“If it isn't the pathetic thing,” I heard and I turned to see Lily sneering at me.

I looked away immediately, trying to hold back my tears.

“Look Maya, you don't have to feel bad, Giovanni never loved you, he is the mafia Don for crying out loud how can he love someone as plain as you?” her words tore at my heart but I chose to ignore.

She continued, clearly over the moon that her words were getting into me, but how could they not?

It was true what she said anyways, I could hardly be seen as beautiful if not why would my husband cheat on me?

“And besides, you're too barren that you can't even bear an heir, you know if Giovanni had a son he would treat you differently…but I'll be the one making that heir now” she said with a shrill laughter.

Not able to bear it I turned to her, tears on my face.

“I thought we were best friends” I whispered to her.

“Not in this world, nor in that to come, Now make dinner quickly unless you want to be whipped, I won't save you this time, you little fool” she said and walked out

Her words hit me and she left me broken. I couldn't believe how my husband changed so suddenly. No, he had always been that way. It was even more painful to realize that he'd killed my father and deceived me.

As I was about to take the food upstairs to them, the sound of loud gunshots were heard. I stopped startled.

“The Donatelli Mafia are attacking us!” I heard and fear gripped me, in spite of myself I ran to my husband for protection.

“Get away from me” he yelled as the gunshots became louder.

“Please help, you will protect me right?” I said and Lily came out, eyes wide in fear.

“Go downstairs to the underground safe and wait there, you'll be safe” he said to her and she ran down immediately.

“What about me?” I asked and he scoffed.

“How about I hand you over to them for peace to reign?” He said and dragged me by the shirt.

The Moretti mafia which my husband belonged to was no match for the Donatelli Mafia. They were known to be brutal and heartless and their mafia head was a terror who had been infamous. No one had seen his face.

He was known to murder women and children without even sparing them a look.

“Don't do this to me” I knelt begging him.

The gunshots were becoming nearer.

“Sign the documents then, I'll protect you” he said and dragged me into the room, I quickly scribbled my name on it, if I died with my child none of it would matter anyway.

“Good” he said and started walking away.

“But you said…” I said fearfully, he scoffed and walked away, leaving me all alone with fear.

I couldn't move out, fearing I would run into one of them.

Just as I paced, the door opened and a man in a mask came in holding a gun.

“Please don't kill me” I cried, getting on my knees immediately.
