I tried to look down at the floor, not wanting to implicate myself by staring at his face.

“I can't kill you, I ran out of bullets” he said with a sigh and sat on the bed.

“What are you doing here, aren't you Giovanni's wife, shouldn't you be somewhere safe?” He asked at once and I shook my head.

“He would wish I was dead” I said dreadfully.

“Ah…no happy marriage huh, for a pretty woman like you that's a bad thing” he said and I looked at him.

Pretty! As if.

My heart had already been shattered into a million pieces and yet I begged to live?

Live for what and for who?

But then I realized that there was still a survivor inside of me. One that I had to live for.

Just then heavy footsteps were heard on the stairs.

“Where did that bastard go?” It was my husband's voice that called out. My eyes widened as the man stood up from the bed.

“Quick hide” I said without thinking and pushed him into the bathroom.

“Why should I hide?” He asked almost as if I had told him to do something utterly stupid.

“You don't have any bullets,” I said quickly.

“And if I did? Would you want me to kill your husband?” He asked and I nodded.

“Maybe.”

I closed the door immediately and turned, the door immediately opened and my husband burst in.

“Did he come in here?” He asked and I looked up at him and shook my head.

“No one came in here,” I said, tense.

“Are you sure?” He asked searching around the room. He walked towards the bathroom and held the door knob. My eyes widened in fear and I called out immediately.

“If someone came in here, I would be dead by now, don't you think?”

He turned back and walked away from the door and I breathed out in relief, I was almost caught.

“I guess that would have been better,” he said and walked out of the room.

I stared at the closed door immediately, with silent indignation.

That would have been better?

I carry his damned child for crying out loud. But then he wouldn't know would he?

Unless he would kiss up to me till I hear him, the heir he has been so crazy about.

The bathroom door opened just then and the man walked out. He had removed the mask and his fine features stood out.

“Why did you do that for me?” he asked and I shrugged.

“You would have killed but you didn't” I said immediately and winced while holding my stomach. The ache had started again.

I felt nauseous immediately and almost threw up but I held myself firmly aware of the stranger staring at him with unbelief on his face.

“Are you with child?” He asked surprised and I nodded shyly.

“I'm guessing your husband doesn't know you have an heir, If word gets out you could be in serious danger” he said.

“I don't want to give my husband this heir, he doesn't deserve it, he killed my father”

“Who is that?” He asked and I looked up.

“Vincenzo Romano” I said.

“Mama Mia…you're Vincenzo’s daughter?” He was surprised and went on to explain to me how my father had mentored him and how he was seeking revenge against the Moretti mafia because Giovanni had killed my father. Even he was aware but I just recently found out.

“Come with me, marry me and I'll make sure your child gets to avenge his grandfather” he said and I shook my head immediately.

“How can a child kill his own father?” I asked. I wouldn't want my child to be the murderer of his own father. That would make him a monster just like Giovanni was.

Only the thought of it brought a sense of dread to me.

“Then you do it, I'll help you kill your husband for murdering your danger and deceiving you, I'll give you back everything he stole from you, just come with me” he said and I felt swayed, but then how could I trust him?

I would give anything to get my revenge on my husband, to come back stronger and bolder and maybe trample upon him till he begs for mercy.

“You don't have to make that decision now” he said immediately and handed me his card.

“I'll wait for your call, the name is Carlo Donatelli” He said and just like that he was gone.

What more could be sweeter than getting revenge? I had been humiliated enough and my marriage turned out to be something that could kill me. And I've suffered for two years.

Later that evening it was reported that some men had died and the police were closing in. Giovanni paced angrily.

“Damn Carlo, damn him!” He yelled and I flinched. Carlo?

“He is the Boss of the renowned Donatelli Mafia, what business did he have invading us? “ Matteo asked and I listened in.

“I wouldn't know would I?”

Carlo was the boss? The boss everyone feared to be brutal? But he didn't seem like it at all.

Just as I was about to slip away from the kitchen, Giovanni turned to me and without warning, he gave me a slap across the cheek. I staggered backwards stunned.

“This is all because of you slut, why wouldn't you sign the legacy sooner, why? Who do you think you are? You can't even provide an heir upon three years of marriage so that I'll be at peace, you useless shit” he roared.

“Giovanni, what have I done to deserve this?” I asked as tears streamed down my face.

“I will divorce you and marry Lily after all, I don't need you anymore” he said and walked out.

Neither did I. The divorce papers were already ready and I signed it without his knowledge.

I waited till it was dark before taking a few of my belongings and slipping out of the mansion, I dialed Carlo immediately.

“I'm ready to go, I'll make sure to come back and kill that bastard!”
