Chapter 4

Before he could utter a word, the door was pushed open and the doctor entered the ward. He took her body temperature and her heartbeat rate. “Madam, how are you feeling now?” the doctor asked. “Am feeling like my baby is not inside here.” That was the only feeling she had.

The doctor looked at here, “Madam we are sorry for the loss of your baby, but again we are lucky that you are alive.”

She felt her heart bleeding from pain. The joy she had did not even last for a day. The baby she had been asking for was just gone like that. She was not able to protect her child.

“She pushed me down the stairs and made me lose my baby,” she cried.

Alexander Reid who was listening to her could roughly guess what had happened. He moved closer to her and held her hand. He didn’t know how to console her but he had to try.

“Don’t cry, don’t think about it anymore, you will get another baby, as beautiful as you.”

“Really? Will I get another baby?’ she smiled then her smile faded.

“But Lucas Hayes doesn’t want me anymore. He said he loves my sister,” she paused then continued.

” I went to the hospital today and the doctor told me that I was pregnant. I couldn’t wait to break the good news to my husband. I rushed home and I found him with my sister naked in our matrimonial bed. She pushed me down the stairs, I was bleeding, I called for help but they ignored me.”

Her child was gone, she felt like losing hope in life. The doctor gave her some medicine so that she could sleep for some time. Alexander Reid followed the doctor to his office.

He explained to the doctor how he received a call from her and rushed her to the hospital. All long the doctor thought that she was his wife not knowing that he was just a savior who was called by mistake.

“When is she going to be discharged?” Alexander Reid asked. “There is nothing serious now. She can just be discharged and recuperate at home, but she needs a lot of rest.”

At the same time inside the ward, Mrs. Hayes, Lucas Hayes mother pushed the door open. She pulled the drip from Vanessa's hand and she started bleeding. Vanessa was awaken by the pain. Before she could master what was going on, she received a slap on her right cheek.

“You daughter of a bitch, why did you abort my grandson? I wish my son would have never married you.” Vanessa did not shed a single tear.

“You can’t talk now you prostitute? You have slept around with men forgetting how my son has always been good to you.”

She slapped her again on her left cheek. Vanessa hung her head low and Mrs. Hayes thought that she was guilty in her heart so she dared not to look at her.

“Arrr, you have just been a disgrace to the Hayes family.” Mrs. Hayes eyes were full of disgust. Mrs. Hayes didn’t like her from the very beginning, she was not the type of daughter-in-law she wanted. She saw her as a useless woman, who didn’t add any value to the Hayes family other that just staying at home and enjoying the wealth of the Hayes family.

Vanessa raised her head and glared at Patricia without the slightest expression on her face.

"Look at you ugly human being! You killed my grandson, I have not yet settled the scores with you yet you still have the audacity to stare at me!”

Vanessa listened to Mrs. Hayes rebuke and accusations, and lowered her head again, making it impossible for Mrs. Hayes to guess what she was thinking. Mrs. Hayes glanced at the blood stain on the back of Vanessa's hand, and was stunned for a moment.

It was a needle which had dropped and it won’t kill her. She thought to herself. Mrs. Hayes pulled her hand and she fell from the bed with a thud. At the same time, Alexander Reid was done talking with the doctor so he headed towards the ward.

At the door, he overheard something falling with someone shouting. He quickly rushed in only to find Vanessa on the floor, blood flowing from her hand.

A middle age woman stood there as she cursed her. “What are you doing?” he pushed the woman aside and carried Vanessa placing her back to bed.

He quickly pressed the bell so that the doctor could come in quickly. Mrs. Hayes took out a document from her bag and threw it in front of Vanessa "Sign it!" Mrs. Hayes said with a cold voice.

Alexander Reid tried pushing the woman out of the door but Vanessa stopped him. “Do you have a pen?” she asked with a low voice.

Alexander Reid took a pen from his pocket and handed it to her. She picked the paper and signed her name with a shady handwriting then gave it back to Alexander Reid who gave it to the woman.

The doctor quickly rushed in and the drip was connected back to her hand. Alexander Reid called the security who led Mrs. Hayes out of the hospital. Alexander Reid sat by the side of her bed.

He knew she was in too much pain. He had seen the document she signed very well. It was a divorce agreement document. She had found her husband cheating with her sister in her matrimonial bed, she had lost her baby and she got divorced on the same day. The kind of pain could not be borne by just an ordinary person. He was sure that she must be trying very hard to remain strong.

“Everything will be okay with time,” he assured her. Natasha nodded her head.

“Have you seen my phone anywhere?” she asked Alexander Reid. He took the phone from his trouser pocket and handed it to her. Vanessa was surprised not understanding how he got hold of her phone.
