Chapter 6

Alexander Reid helped her get down from the car. Holding her hand, he led her to the house. The mansion was big and Vanessa was surprised.

She never thought that Alexander was living in such a place.

She knew that rich people would never help others easily but Alex's action made her disagree with that belief.

“This your room, make yourself comfortable,” he said before leaving the room. Vanessa sat by the side of the bed as she looked around the room. The walls were lively and painted pink, the color she liked.

The bed was so big that it could accommodate up to six people. She felt sticky everywhere, she felt as if it saw ages since the last time she took a bath. She wanted to take a very good shower and rest. She stood up with some struggle and headed to the bathroom.

A hot shower was already prepared and she couldn’t tell when and who prepared it. A clean white towel and a bathrobe were hanged on the walls.

She removed her clothes and submerged in the bathtub. When the warm water got in contact with her skin, she felt nice, a feeling that made her almost forgot about the painful things she was going through.

She closed her eyes and painful memories started running through her head. She had lost her family, the one she had tried very much to hold on. What pained her the most

was that she had lost her baby.

It wouldn’t disturb her if the baby won’t have a dad, she would have tried as much as possible to

bring him to the world and help him grow into a handsome young man. The child was gone, she

had a lot of plans for the baby.

For the period of two years, she kept fantasizing how she would be happy with Lucas while taking their baby to school. All the dreams had shuttered, just like that.

At the same time, Alexander Reid knocked at her door but she didn’t respond.

He pushed the door open but she was not in and he would tell that she was in the bathroom. He waited for a couple of minutes but he didn’t see her coming out and there was no sound coming from the bathroom.

He became alarmed thinking that something might have happened to her. “Vanessa!! Vanessa a!!” he tried calling her but he didn’t receive any response.

He called again and again in a louder tone but she didn’t respond Alexander decided to push the door open but it was locked from inside. Negative thoughts started striking his mind.

What if she had locked herself inside there and she was trying to harm herself?

He could not allow her to do anything stupid. He knocked on the door a couple of times but she didn’t open.

Inside the bathtub, Vanessa was deep asleep. She didn’t know how and when she fell asleep. From far deep in her mind, she could hear knocks on the door but to her they were sounding as lullabies.

She was tired and all she wanted was to rest.

“Who is trying to mess with my sweet sleep?” she whispered as she opened her eyes. “Ghosh!!!!”

she shouted.

She had forgotten where she was and fell asleep.

The knocks continued being louder and louder.

“Am coming,” she shouted as her heart pounded hard.

Outside the door, Alexander knew that she was okay and maybe she had fallen asleep without knowing so he went back to the living room so that he could give her some time to get changed.

Vanessa quickly jumped out of the bathtub, wrapped the towel tightly around her body and went to the room.

At the dressing table, there was a new body lotion which she applied quickly. She opened the wardrobe only to be surprised by the female clothes she saw inside there.

All of them were new and designer made. She didn’t have any clothes to change into and she could not pick the clothes in the wardrobe without the owner’s permission.

Vanessa didn’t know if the new clothes belonged to his girlfriend, wife, friend or sister.

“You can pick any cloth in the wardrobe,” she heard Alex's voice outside the door.

“Okay and thank you.” She picked a pair of navy blue jeans trousers and a sweater top. She then realized that she didn’t have a single pair of underpants.

She could not put on a trouser without an underwear at the same time she couldn’t wear a dress without them.

She pulled open a small drawer and she was surprised to see several pairs of inner pants.

She picked the pink one which attracted her eyes and put them on. She dried up her hair and tied it into two bunnies before going downstairs.

From the stairs, she could see Alexander standing while a middle aged woman sat on the sofa.

“Vanessa, this is Susan, she is a specialized caregiver and she would be taking care of you,” he said without any emotions on his face.

“Thanks Alex, but I think am okay and there is no need to trouble yourself,” she said while trembling.

She had troubled him so much with him taking her to the hospital, paying her hospital bills, accompanying her throughout the surgery and also taking her to his house. She didn’t want to be a burden to him.

She just wanted to have a shelter over her head for a couple of days before she could think of where to go and what to do. Alexander smiled. She couldn’t understand the meaning of her smile. Was he ridiculing her?

“Good evening madam, pleasure to meet you,” Susan spoke before she could say anything more. Vanessa extended her arm and shook Susan’s,

“pleasure to meet you too Susan.” Vanessa turned to look at Alex only to realize that he was already gone.

She was planning to talk to him privately but he was nowhere to be found. She felt confused. The only room she knew in that big mansion was her room so that was the only direction she could take. “Susan, I’ll be in my room,” she said as she quickly went upstairs.
