Chapter 8

one week later. Vanessa woke up as usual and sat on the bed. She felt okey now. It was time to leave Steve's place. She didn't want to overstay the welcome. Thought ran through her mind.

Marrying Lucas was Vanessa's biggest dream in the past decade. They were childhood sweethearts, grew up together and fell in love with each other. she married him and conceived his child even without expecting.

She was excited when the doctor told her she was pregnant. She thought that fate had allowed her to realize her dream.

Overjoyed, she thought that she would dedicate herself to building a future with Lucas and their child.

She thought she was the happiest woman in the phase of the world, but all were like imaginations and fantasies which would never come true.

The so-called happiness was more fragile than bubbles, and the so called love and marriage was one sided. Lucas was the one who did the wrong thing, and his girlfriend, her sister, was the one who caused Vanessa to lose her child!

A day ago, she had thought that she should go to Lucas and ask for forgiveness so that they could get back together. But was it worth it? Did he deserve it?

Begging for his forgiveness without dignity as before? She was used to it. Asking forgiveness when she hadn't done anything wrong. Vanessa thought that taking the blame everytime would make the marriage work but she was just naive and ignorant. "No, absolutely not! " she whispered.

She would never do such a thing again, to that man. Suddenly her phone vibrated. It was an incoming message. She swiped and read the message. "You will regret signing the divorce papers." She smiled. The phone then started ringing. It was Lucas's number. She had memorized it in her head. She looked at the phone with disgust

Vanessa threw the noisy mobile phone into the trash can, a scene of the past appeared in her mind. Lucas Hayes just said that she would regret signing the divorce papers?

Regret? Yes, she did have something to regret. The only thing she regretted the most in her life was giving all her love to Lucas Hayes. She loved him wholeheartedly and in the process she lost herself. She didn't think about herself but about him. She tried her best to make him happy forgetting that she needed to be happy too.

She loved him until she has no dignity, she lost her child and her dreams shuttered. "I will never regret the decision I made, but I hope that we never come in each other's way," She whispered.

Vanessa got out of bed, took the shower and changed into a knee lengths dress. She went downstairs and Alexander was seated there going through a magazine.

The previous night, she had told him that she would leave the following day. She wanted to go and start her life afresh. Alexander had begged her to stay but she was determined to leave. Alexander lifted his head from the magazine and looked at her.

She stood infront of him. She was not carrying anything except her phone. "You are still determined to go?" Alex asked as he looked at her. Vanessa nodded her head, " Alex, I need to go. I think this would be very important to me. This is the only way for me to heal," she said placing her palm on her chest.

"Okey," Alex spoke in a low voice. Vanessa had asked her friend to prepare all the traveling documents the previous day. Alexander wanted to take her to the airport but she was against it. She wanted to leave alone. She thought that he could make her change her mind to decide not to

leave. She moved closer to him," Can I hug you?" she asked in a low voice.

"Mhhh?" Alex was surprised. "Am sorry," she quickly said. She didn't know why she wanted to hug him. Alex had heard her right. He stood up and pulled her into his embrace. His hands went down around her waist and the hug lasted for few minutes. He could feel his shirt becoming wet at the shoulders region. She was crying. Alex tapped her on the shoulders," it's gonna be okey."

The two then broke the hug, Vanessa waved her hand then left the house without looking back. Steve didn't want to stand up and look at her as she walked away. She controlled the urge to go after her. He had to support her in whatever she wanted to do.

It was her decision to leave and she knew it would make her happy.

It was best for him to let her go. Alex was holding his head in between his hands. He closed his eyes and when he opened his eyes, he saw some liquid drops on the table and some on his palms.

Something was tickling down his cheeks too down to his mouth. He took his tongue out and kicked it. The liquid was salty. They were tears.He was crying.

The mighty billionaire who was respected and idolized by many was crying. "Why was he crying? He couldn't even tell. He was surprised by what he was doing. He had never cried even when his mother tortured him when he was a child. What made him cry when he was a grown up man?

For the few days that Vanessa had stayed in his house, he felt happy and complete. His house which he was used to staying in alone now felt like an empty shell.

It seemed lifeless . He touched the left side of heart. He felt pain. He was sad. He stood up and looked through the window hoping that he could see her. He was an idiot. She was already gone one hour ago. He went to his study to make a call, a very important call.
