Chapter 2

2

After I was rescued from the crocodile pit, I dragged my exhausted body back home.

The shock I experienced today had already surpassed human limits.

But when I returned home, I saw my beloved husband having a candlelight dinner with another woman.

This candlelight dinner was something I had specially prepared after getting off work early that day.

Emily took out her phone and snapped a photo of herself kissing Harry, then posted a celebratory message about reaching one million followers.

Watching their affectionate display at that moment made me feel like I was the punchline of a joke.

After finishing the candlelight dinner, Harry lovingly embraced Emily and headed to the bedroom on the second-floor.

As for what they were about to do next, it was well-known to everyone.

He looked at me with disdain as he passed by.

"Next time you cook, use less salt. Emily can't stand it. And don’t waste the leftover food. Remember to wash the dishes after you eat."

Tears filled my eyes as I looked at Harry.

All these years I dedicated to this family had turned into nothing more than free maid service in his eyes.

During the seven years of our marriage, I had given up all my social life.

I just wanted to provide him with a unique sense of warmth and security at home.

But my one-sided devotion had turned me into a doormat.

Over time, it made my love for Harry feel even more humble.

I still remembered the day Harry confessed his love to me.

Back then, he earnestly told me that he would love only me from then on.

He also promised that he would no longer keep in touch with his first love, Emily.

But promises only count when love was present. When he no longer loved me, the promises disappeared into thin air.

"Why did you and Emily eat the candlelight dinner I worked so hard to prepare? Not only did you eat it, but you also made me eat her leftovers. Do you think I'm a garbage can?"

At that moment, all the grievances I had suppressed for years exploded.

I tried hard to pull Emily off Harry.

"Hailey Rane, you're a complete psycho. If you're unhappy, come at me. Why bully Emily?"

Harry stood in front of Emily, hurriedly waving his hand to send her to the second-floor bedroom.

Once she left, Harry sighed helplessly.

He took my hand and sat down on the sofa. "You know about my history with Emily. We were each other’s first love, and we parted due to regrets. Now that she's in the media industry, I just want to help her. There are no other intentions."

I looked up at Harry. This was the first time in seven years of marriage that he had spoken to me so gently.

Yet it was still for another woman, and tears streamed down my face.

After all, he was my husband whom I loved deeply, and I still thought about giving him one more chance.

Seeing that my mood had improved, Harry's tone became less harsh than before.

"I swear, Emily and I are really just friends. I got a bit too emotional earlier. Don’t overthink it. We are a married couple. You need to trust me more. I promise I won’t treat you like this again, okay?"

I looked at Harry bitterly, holding onto the last bit of hope in my heart.

If he continued to keep in touch with Emily after tomorrow, then I would no longer love him.
