NINE YEARS AGO It was early on one Saturday morning, a girl was seen hovering around the Fin Mansion. Her face went unseen because of her cap and hoodie that covered everything from her head to waist, only revealing her dark hair and pale complexion. Her appearance didn't seem suspicious in the slightest, almost blending perfectly with the surroundings but the eyes that peeked through the edge of the cap showed that she is indeed interested in entering the mansion or waiting on someone or something. For over twenty minutes, she waited and when her patient was almost worn out, a guard came out and sighting the basket in front of the huge Fin gates, he rushed back in and soon returned with the young master, Robert Fin who was just almost turning twenty at that time. Seeing that her mission had been accomplished and that the baby inside the basket was in safe hands where he belonged, she pulled herself from her hiding and disappeared from sight. The lady turned out to be Selena Parke
“If I'm with you right now, I would have given you a hard knock on the head.” Maria fumed over the phone. She couldn't believe that Selena would leave the country without letting her know. She was worried sick trying to reach her on the phone. To think that's the least of the things she didn't know happening in Selena's life at the moment.“Calm down, girl. I didn't have time to think.” Selena said, trying to pacify her friend. It wasn't working because she could literally hear her friend breathing heavily over the phone.“Okay. I'm calm.” Maria said after a moment. “So tell me what happened?” Selena sighed and got to her feet, moving about in her hotel room. After landing in Peru, she had booked a hotel and settled in before phoning Maria. Moving around in the new city wasn't hard for a first timer though. All thanks to Google map.“There are things I can't explain to you at the moment. Just know I'm fine and when I can, I will explain things to you.” She breathed, squeezing her e
“Dad?” Kyle called at the door, smartly dressed. Robert looked up from his laptop and smiled genuinely at him. He was trying to round off work before he could go down to the party venue. It was Kyle’s tenth birthday and after he left Peru without Selena, he had engrossed himself in planning the party himself to keep himself busy. That way he would think less of her and funny enough, it worked.“Hey big man. Come in.” He cheerfully invited his son in. Kyle threw himself on his father's bed peeping into the laptop, trying to find out what Robert’s working on. It was surprising to the whole family when they found out that Robert was actually Kyle's father. It was a beautiful surprise. Kyle didn't have to feel any less of himself finding out he was actually adopted by his real family. His only regret was his mother missing. He thought if he had been nice to Selena maybe she wouldn't have left him the second time. He did understand why she left him the first time, it was for his own go
Inside a luxurious suite, the air felt like something out of a movie. The room was painted in pale lilac hues and the furniture was covered in silky, pastel colors. There were two doors leading to the bedroom and one leading to the bathroom, but they didn't appear to have been used recently. In the center of the room was an enormous white bed with matching nightstands, both filled with various perfumes and lotions, as well as a large mirror with black curtains behind it, blocking most of the natural light from being let inside. Several chairs had been pushed up against the side table and one of those chairs sat near the window, with the curtain drawn back to let some natural light into the room. Atop the other table was a small crystal ball and beside it was a tall wineglass, filled with clear liquid. It looked quite ordinary, no different than any other wine glass. It was, however, very expensive, costing over ten thousand dollars. It was owned by a man called “Zeus'' which co
Maria's face immediately fell. She knew that it wasn't something that she could fix."Oh, my! I thought the doctor said he would not be needing the surgery soonest," Maria said helplessly."I thought so too not until I got a call from the hospital stating that he needs the surgery before the end of tomorrow or he will die. I am not sure how I will get $20k in just one day. I don't want my kid brother to die," Selena's voice cracked at the end of her statement. She heard a few tears in her eyes."This is not good. How are we going to get the money? I don't even have up to that amount and Jack would not listen to me.""I just wished there was anything that could be done. I mean, anything. I will do it to get the money," Selena persisted hoping for a miracle. A light bulb clicked on Maria's head and her eyes lit up but she was hesitant to let out what she thought might be the solution. It's not a nice offer but it will be the best they can get."I think there is a way but I am not s
AT THE MALL…. Maria watched Selena with a look of amusement as Selena didn't seem to make a choice. No doubt, there are lots of beautiful dresses there, and maybe even something in a more risqué or slutty style that could get Selena into one of the hottest clubs. But she seemed to be stuck on just one dress. The red silk with silver stripes was a perfect dress for her, it showed off her toned arms and hips. She was so focused on trying on dresses that Maria thought Selena would never notice her presence until she spoke up."Hey Selena," Maria said walking up behind her, "You sure this is what you want?" She asked. She wanted to help Selena choose a dress but wasn't sure how and had no clue which would work best regarding what the outfit is for. On their way here, Maria had pictured a perfect dress for Selena but getting to the mall, she too was speechless because each dress she saw looked better than the last one and after trying, she gave up and then asked Selena to make a cho
"I bet you, she is suspecting you are up to no good. She is very inquisitive for my liking," Maria stated in a matter of factly tone. Selena couldn't deny that Nurse Vera was indeed curious about where she was going tonight. She has always been like that. Since her parents died, the nurse has been more than family to them. She can run to her for any assistance but this time, she doesn't want to trouble the nurse.Selena had pleaded with the doctor not to mention the kind of money that is involved in Andrew's surgery to Nurse Vera and that's for a personal reason. Telling Nurse Vera would not be the best option because she would not be able to help with the amount that is involved and again Vera would not ask questions when she finally gets the money for Andrew's surgery. It's for the best, hopefully, tonight will work as planned By now they were standing before Andrew's ward.Selena opened the door and her heart dropped to the ground. Andrew was lying on the bed, looking a
"So Andrew, Melissa will look after you tonight," Selena said after a few minutes of all of them staying in silence. She has seen the way Andrew was wrinkling his face and furrowing his brows and it worried her because she knows he is thinking which is not good for his state of heart right now."She has been doing that in a row now. It's fine. She is happy to serve."Andrew smiled after stating that. Selena and Maria looked at him weirdly. Why was he smiling like that?"Is there something I or we need to know, Andrew?" Selena asked after she could not contain her curiosity."Naw, I am not sure," Andrew said as he closed his eyes shut. Seeing how wearily he looks, Selena thought of leaving the question after his surgery. Something is definitely going on between Andrew and Melissa and she is sure of it."Just be ready to tell me what it is when you are better," Selena said, giving him a playful punch on the arm. They all smiled and went silent again Thirty minutes later, Melissa ar

Within a minute the ward was turned upside down by Robert, calling Selena's name at intervals.“F*ck!” He exclaimed, scared that something bad might have happened to the lady he just learnt to be Kyle's mother. Robert had questions and he needed answers but firstly he needed to know her whereabouts. He rushed out immediately, bumping into a nurse. "Where is Ms Parker?" He asked in haste. The nurse looked at him with a questionable look, "Sorry, I don't know any patient by that name." The woman apologized, trying to walk past him to continue her job. Robert grabbed the nurse's wrist and held her back, making her yelp in surprise."What do you mean? In a large hospital like this and a patient is missing, you're giving me the crab of not knowing such a patient." His patience was running out and at the same time, he was blaming himself. If indeed Selena is missing, it's should be his fault. How could he had left her alone. Yeah, he was in foul mood yesterday after Selena made it clear
“The baby didn't stay! I'm sorry." The doctor's words kept replaying in his mind. The next few hours was hell for Robert. Pacing around at intervals, blaming himself for not realizing that Selena was pregnant until she had lost the baby, his baby."Fuck!"He kicked the air and tagged at his hair in frustration. It was all his fault. If he had paid close attention, he would have noticed.According to the doctor, Selena was just two weeks pregnant and giving blood out to Kyle had caused the miscarriage.Imagine saving a life to kill another. At the sound of Selena's voice, he turned and she was trying to get off the bed. She was awake now. "Hey, let me help you." Robert offered but Selena pushed his hand away, glaring at him. "When am I leaving the hospital?" She asked sternly, looking everywhere but him. "They won't let you leave until tomorrow." Robert informed her. "How are you?" He asked her. She scoffed and rolled her eyes at him."Fine." She answered bitterly, looking away
The scenario before Selena was the most terrifying sight ever. Kyle was sprawled on the floor with his head bleeding profusely. “How the hell did he slip and fall?” She asked as she tried wrapping her hand on what was going on. Her feet couldn't move, neither did her body. A small whimper escaped from her mouth following a chilling scream from her. The next minute, Kyle's unconscious body was surrounded by the guards and maid. Funny how none of the workers in the place heard his scream when he fell. Commotion followed immediately and soon an Ambulance arrived. Kyle was wheeled in while Selena followed after putting a call across to Robert. She had gathered herself a little but however she still looked shaken and... scared. "Please, don't die." Selena tearfully told unconscious Kyle as she clasped her hands together with his. Her tears wouldn't stop falling as her chest tightened in pain. It hurt like hell seeing Kyle in that state not knowing what his fate will be. The fall was pr
Groaning with one eye open, the wall clock stated 7am in the morning. Too lazy to get up, but Selena has to get up. It was the day she was going to be free. Her contract had ended and knowing what she knows now, she was walking out of Fin mansion without a second thought. Yesterday, Julio had visited and told her about her parents death and how Vera Wilson was involved in everything. She learnt Vera was her father's evil ex and Dash was her half-brother. It didn't matter since her parents were dead so she told Julio that if ever the case was won in court, all that was left in her name should be given to the less privileged. She has nothing to do with what will constantly remind her that she no longer has the people she loves with her. Julio could do anything to convince her but Selena wouldn't hear of any of it. Life had solemnly dealt with her and she would want to be far away from any constant reminder of the things life had snatched from her.“Rise and shine, Selena.” She yawned
"Ma'am, the driver is waiting for you." Selena turned to Flora with her brows raised. "Where is your Boss?" Selena asked, now frowning. Her mood had been sour since she found out about her pregnancy and had stayed back in her room for the rest of the morning. Though she had mixed feelings about the pregnancy, she was keeping it and there was no way Robert would get wind of it. Too bad her baby will be raised without a father because after today she was disappearing and no one will find her. "He's left." Flora mumbled, feeling pity for Selena. How sad that Robert didn't at least check up on her to know why she hadn't been out of her room since the last time they saw and now he was gone? She's not surprised. She knew he doesn't care about women, talk more of a lady like her. With a sigh, Selena got to her feet and headed straight towards the door."Ma'am." Flora stopped her with a soft voice. "I'm sorry about this."Selena chuckled, "why?" "You're sad and it break my heart." Flora t
"So Ma'am, I hope you slept well?" The maid who now has a name tag, Flora, asked, pouring Selena a cup of coffee. Selena was wrapped in her sleeping wear. Her sleepy eyes dulled out as she tried to make up what the maid had asked."You said what?" She mumbled and slipped off the bed, staggering. For the record, she slept off on the couch. How did she get on the bed?"I asked if you slept well?" Flora repeated her question, shaking her head. She likes Selena and it was obvious. Selena was easy to love anyway."What do..es..t.tha.t me..a.n" Selena slurred and blinked repeatedly to wave off the sleep in her eyes."Here." She tried handling the coffee mug to Selena. "Thank you." Selena thanked as she took the drink and sipped it, returning to full consciousness. The coffee tasted delicious. "Does the coffee taste fine?" She heard Flora ask after seeing the change in her facial expression."Yes." Selena replied, giving the maid a sincere smile.Flora giggled, "If you need help showering, l
