Getting Maria back was one of the plans, the perfect plan yet the main plan was not achieved. No matter how the police tortured Jake he insisted he doesn't have Selena anymore. Robert saw he was telling the truth and ordered for him to be tortured no more.

He left the station after instructing Jake to be heavily guarded so he wouldn't break out of jail again until his fate is decided. By the time he had returned to his mansion, it was pretty late and he retired to bed, shunning everyone including his son. He had so many conflicted emotions to deal with and he had no clue on her to handle them.
