I don't know why Bryce looked at me that badly but I just tried not to pay attention to it even more and Braylon’s noises grabbed my attention. He is talking so much while I'm busy taking care of the medicines that haven't been taken out of the box yet. He also picks it up and then places it on the table in front of us while raising both eyebrows and giving me a silly grin. I made him suffer because he looked so annoying. Not because he's not handsome but because of the nonsense I read there.
"I know you want to know how Bryce described you last night, Nurse Gia. Come on. Don't be shy. I'll tell you, eh." He even got a wink at me.
"How sure are you that I want to know about it?" I raised an eyebrow at him and I don't know why he suddenly burst out laughing causing those people close to where we were to look at us and it felt like someone was watching me.
"Because I can see it." Braylon’s simple response to my question made him frown.
"What do you mean you can see it?"
Braylon immediately grinned because of my question. "I can see the future." He answered like a fortune teller while acting like he was holding a crystal ball in both of his hands.
I just shook my head and then turned away from him, but he seemed to turn into a tail as he followed me. I could hear him babbling but I didn't pay attention to it especially when Bryce got my attention. He's been looking at me for a while now because I can feel it and I don't know why he's just looking at me like that as if I'll do something bad. I try to ignore it but it affects me too much and makes me uncomfortable.
"Come on. You two might melt each other by the way you two look." I turned to my side and saw that Braylon was there and also looking at Bryce. He grinned and then jokingly saluted his friend while I turned my back on them and sat in one of the chairs there. "Do you know that Bryce would not have come here if Grandma Briella hadn't asked him to?"
I seriously turned to Braylon when he sat down in front of me and suddenly he started talking properly and without any mixture of teasing or anything else. “No.” He snorted when I answered him. Well, it's just that I don't know, eh?
"That's why I'm going to tell you, eh." His statement made me laugh because he looked like a child. "Bryce doesn't know why Grandma Briella needs to help the people who are here when they will evict them in just a few months."
"Get evicted? Why?” I immediately asked when Braylon got my attention.
"Because Bryce is going to build a new resort here."
"Shouldn't they help the people who are here even more because they will be evicted after a few months? At least that way he can help the people who are here even for the last time.” I couldn't avoid the statement and it was only then that I noticed those new tools, equipment, and stock of medicines that their staff was placed there in one of the canopy tents.
"Because from Bryce's point of view, they will only let the people here rely on the help they can give because they know that it will not be enough."
"But even so. Even if that is lacking, he should still help.”
Suddenly, Braylon looked at me seriously, which surprised me because, for the first time since I saw him and was with him, he became serious. He smiled bitterly at me and then looked at his friend who was still talking to Captain Leon and Doctora McKenna. "Because Bryce doesn't want anyone to rely on him again and in the end, he will only fail them."
"What do you mean?" I don't know why but there's something in me that wants to know why Bryce has such a point of view even though I understand him because it's business and I grew up seeing that's what Grandpa Gideon was doing.
"What's her name?" Suddenly, Braylon's eyes turned in another direction, so I frowned and followed what he was looking at, and there I saw Saighna checking up on a child not far from us. "Hey. What is her name?”
I even felt Braylon elbowing me slightly, causing me to frown and look at him again. "That's Dra. Saighna Kieth Hatz and you're not her type." I couldn't avoid teasing him so he immediately turned to me and gently knocked me on the head with a small medicine box which made me laugh because I agree with his snoring again. "Stop pouting." I gave him a serious order that surprised him a little until he slowly grinned. What is he thinking this time?
"Why do you want me to stop pouting? You're tempted to kiss me, right?" Both of his eyebrows were raised again while a teasing grin was drawn on his lips.
"You look like a duck, dude." I kept teasing him because suddenly he was like a child who crouched down on the table and hid his face there.
"Grandma Briella was right." I turned to him again after arranging the empty medicine boxes on the side of the table. "You and Bryce are the same. Both of you are teasing me."
I couldn't avoid being slapped on the forehead and then jokingly poked Braylon with the small medicine box causing him to raise his face again and just in time Saighna passed in front of us. I saw how he swallowed saliva so I couldn't help but laugh at his reaction. I just shook my head and then looked at Saighna and saw her heading in the direction of Bryce. I wasn't interested in what she would do there but there was something in me that I couldn't take my eyes off of until I saw how her hand wrapped around Bryce's arm. I don't know why I felt annoyed so I turned to Braylon again.
"Do you have Saighna's number?"
"Why don't you just ask her directly?" I asked him lazily while lying on my back and looking into the void.
"Eh, why does your face suddenly seem to be entwined with heaven and earth? Are you jealous?" I heard his smirk again but I didn't look at him.
"Stop with your illusions, Braylon."
He laughed and from my peripheral vision, I saw that he was still smirking. “Geez. Admit it. You're jealous, right?"
I turned to Braylon with a frown. "And why should I be jealous? I'm not his girlfriend."
"Why? Do you have to be his girlfriend before you feel jealous?” Wondering, he asked me while still holding his chin. "What I know is that it is not based on what you have with someone that you have the right to be jealous. The others are just crushes but they are hurting and crying, eh."
"I do not know about you. What kind of things are you thinking that have no truth." I shook my head and promised him.
"Wow. There is truth in that, no. I'm already jealous because Saighna is so close to Bryce even though I still have a crush on him." According to that, his snout is getting longer and he is still bowing. It might reach the ground hahaha.
"You're like a kid." I couldn't avoid commenting but he agreed and suddenly looked up at me again and smiled at me like a child given candy.
"N-Nurse Gia?" I immediately ignored Braylon's rudeness when suddenly I felt someone approach us and call me. When I looked at her, she was distracted while looking at my name tag. I immediately helped her to sit and when I grabbed her arm, she immediately started crying as if I had hurt her.
I couldn't see her arm but that's where I touched her and that's where she got sick. She was wearing a cardigan so I couldn't see it properly but I couldn't miss those small wounds on her forehead and eyebrows. I frowned because of that and some idea of why she had what was formed in my mind.
"What happened to your wounds?" I turned to Braylon when suddenly his tone became serious again while closely observing the lady who was shocked by his question.
"What's your name, Mam?" When I changed the conversation, Braylon was about to complain when I held his arm and thought that he understood what I wanted to say is to keep quiet and I would do my job. I took a piece of paper where I would record the information about the lady who was still not speaking and just lowering her head. "I need to know your name, Mam." I insisted again when she still didn't speak after a few minutes.
"Elishea B-Berbedil." It was obvious that she was trying not to stutter but she was not succeeding. I even asked her the things needed to form the personal information needed in her future file.
"Where did you get those wounds?" I asked calmly as I felt Braylon move closer to listen carefully to what the lady had to answer.
"I just bumped into our house. I-I just want to ask for m-medicine.” The weakness in her voice was obvious but I was not convinced of her reason.
"Can you take off the cardigan you're wearing, Mam Elishea?" I asked properly, causing her to look up at me.
"I-I'm cold." He said but the tremor in her hand was obvious so I immediately stood up and took the temporal artery thermometer that was near me and then approached Mam Elishea and then placed it on her forehead to find out her temperature.
"Your fever is high." I couldn't avoid the statement. It's 40 degrees Celsius. I couldn't stand it anymore and I was the one who gently lifted her arm to remove the cardigan she was wearing. Due to her weakness, she was not able to complain anymore and Braylon and I were exposed to the lady's new bruises but some scars and bruises were still healing.
Braylon and I looked at each other. "I will call Captain Leon," he said and then immediately left to call the captain.
"I will take you there to the tent where there is a bed. You need to lie down and rest while we treat your wounds." I informed the lady when I saw the tent where there was also a curtain around it that Bryce's staff had just finished almost fixing because it was one of Grandma Briella's gifts as well as the hospital beds that I saw they put in there.
Mam Elishea didn't say a word but when I started helping her to stand up, she immediately helped herself to walk toward the tent. I saw Captain Leon, Dra. McKenna and Braylon were also approaching us when suddenly someone pulled Mam Elishea and because of that suddenness, I let her go immediately. When I looked back at her, she was already crouched on the ground because of weakness and when I looked up at the person who did that, I saw a man with a big body and a tattoo on his arm while his eyes were also clear of being high.
"Who told you that you can leave the house huh?!" That man's voice echoed and based on the smell of his breath that reached my face, the crazy person was drunk. Damn ass.
“Alvin, stop! You're hurting me!" The pain felt in Mam Elishea's voice because the man tightened her hair.
"Why are you complaining now huh?!" The man's eyes widened as he tightened his hold on the lady's hair.
“Alvin, that's enough. That's your wife." I heard Captain Leon's statement from behind me as if reminding the man that she was his wife.
"Gia, come here." Also from behind, I heard Dra. McKenna called me but I just stayed where I was and I didn't even look back at her. I was just looking at the lady that the man was trying to build up by pulling it up on the woman's hair.
"Don't interfere if you don't want to get hurt!" I could see the anger in Alvin's eyes until suddenly everyone gasped when he suddenly pulled out a knife. “I will kill this woman!” He said and then pointed the knife at Mam Elishea's neck. "I asked you for nothing but to serve me and follow my wishes but you still disobeyed me and left the house!" Alvin firmly said to his wife in an emphatic and restrained manner.
"Stop! It's a pity, Alvin. You're hurting me." Mam Elishea was crying and begging but Alvin seemed deaf because instead of listening to her, he looked up like a demon and laughed while playing with the knife in his hand. When I looked around, everyone was on the sidelines and we were the only ones here and in the middle of everyone. There are also guards surrounding us and waiting. When I turned back to the couple, Alvin was still laughing and for some unknown reason, I got the courage to take a few steps between the two of us and punched Alvin in the neck where his adam's apple was bulging.
"Gia!" I heard the voice of Dra. McKenna and Braylon were worried but I didn't pay attention to that anymore and immediately supported Mam Elishea to stand up properly after Alvin pulled her back and seemed to be short of breath as he grabbed her neck.
But before the bodyguards could get close to Alvin and Mam Elishea and I could get away from him, he immediately came close to us and pulled my arm and when I faced him, he was about to punch me when suddenly there was someone who stop his fist in the air that everyone who was there gasped. When I looked up at that person, I couldn't help but gasp in shock and amazement. He grabbed the fist of the man who seemed to have no trouble with him because nothing changed in the expression on his face. It was just blank and looked like he was looking at something useless while his eyes were directly in Alvin's eyes.
Bryce.
I don't know how in such a quick time Bryce immediately got in front of me and immediately caught the blow that I was supposed to get from the furious man. As far as I remember, he wasn't with Braylon when they came to us, but he was here and Braylon came before them to help me. "Let go of me and don't interfere!" That terrifying voice of Alvin echoed throughout the place, causing Mam Elishea to feel so scared that her hands that were holding me trembled. I looked at her and it was obvious that she was very scared and that she was traumatized because of the behavior and actions of her husband. I was just about to turn my eyes to Alvin and Bryce when suddenly Alvin pulled Mam Elishea with one of his hands and because the lady was clinging to me, I was immediately taken by surprise. "Oh! My! Gosh! What is going on?” "Who asked Alvin to drink again?" "They know that's how he is when he drinks, eh." "I did see Alvin drinking with Kevin when I passed by Jayson's house." "Oh! My! Gosh
"Are you all right, Nurse Gia?" My confusion for Ayesha rose when suddenly I could hear the teasing in her tone. "It's like you have a fever because your face is so red." Lyra followed that teasing further and then giggled. "You two should stop and get Nurse Gia some water, not what you're thinking." James reprimanded them and the two immediately scratched their necks and then marched toward the kitchen. "Did you get a big bruise?" I turned to James when he asked that question and it was obvious that Roseanne was interested because she immediately looked at me and listened to my answer. "It's a little big but it's okay because I already put on the ointment that Roseanne gave me," I replied and then felt my bruise again and for a moment I was shocked because of the pain again. I winced because of the realization that I seemed to have temporarily forgotten the bruise I had because of what Bryce had done earlier. "How many days will your bruise last before it completely disappears?"
When I came out of the tent, I couldn't avoid thinking about Braylon's question to Bryce because Braylon himself, who was his cousin, couldn't know what was going through his mind. I just held my breath and when I was about to go to the canopy tent that was closest to me to help another volunteer nurse, I saw a lady carrying her child and a trace of concern on her face, and add to that the speed of her walking that she is almost on all fours. I immediately took action and got a wheelchair and met the mother and daughter who were still far from other people. "Thanks a lot." The lady thanked her and then immediately sat her daughter in the wheelchair and she pushed it there. I immediately followed them as I watched the girl. She has red rashes and it is obvious that she is having trouble swallowing and that she is nauseous. Because of that, I was immediately convinced of what illness she had, although I am not sure yet, I cannot ignore the symptoms I see in the child because if proven,
Braylon and Bryce drove off in their different and beloved cars. The medical mission for today isn't over yet, so I can't rest yet, but that's okay because, besides the fact that I'm not tired yet, I'd rather help the people here than stare at home. "Gia." I turned around when I heard that familiar voice of Dra. McKenna. "Yes, Doctor? Do you need anything?" The shock on her face was obvious when my conversation with her became formal, although since we met again, I have treated her the same way. She is a doctor and I am a nurse. We are in the same field and work so it is only appropriate that I be formal in my conversation with her. "You can c-call me M-Mommy, Gia." Sadness immediately appeared in her voice. "No need, Doctora, besides I'm not used to calling anyone at that address. I have lived without someone I can call Mommy for so many years.” I was cold towards her causing her face to become depressed and her shoulders to fall automatically. "Gia, honey.." She called me, causi
I don't know how many minutes I stood where I was because of what that man Bryce had said before I started walking home again. I passed a few more houses before I finally arrived at the house where Dra. McKenna and I were staying. "Do you think she'll like what I cooked, Dad?" I automatically frowned when I heard that Doctora was talking to someone inside. "Of course. That's your daughter's favorite, Gwen. I'm sure she'll like it even more and you cooked it." My eyes widened when I heard that familiar voice of Grandpa. He's here? Since when? Why didn't he tell me he was coming here? I immediately ran into the house and then ducked into the kitchen just to see Dra. McKenna was preparing food on the table while her laptop was facing her. That's when I realized that he had just made a video called Grandpa. "Gia, you're here," Doctora announced when she saw me, and then she immediately presented the laptop to me and there I saw Grandpa smiling at me. "Good evening, Grandpa." I greete
I don't know what time I fell asleep again since I woke up because of that bad dream. I even woke up earlier than my alarm clock until it rang so I immediately got up. But I also spent a few minutes in a stupor until I decided to go to the bathroom to take a shower and do my routines. After that, I left the house, and just like on my first day, Doctora McKenna was already there at the kitchen table waiting for me. The food she cooked for that morning was also ready there. I would not have accompanied her again and would have turned away from her which was immediately the result of the fall of her shoulders and the immediate look of sadness on her face when the sound of my stomach growling dominated the silence of the house. Because of that, I firmly closed my eyes due to annoyance because I was sure Doctora heard that. "Come here, honey. E-Eat first.” She was so nice to me that I just sighed as I walked closer to the seat closest to me. I remained bowed but Doctora's sweet smile did n
I don't know where Bryce and I are going but I still can't take my eyes off him. Those scars on his body are still bothering me but at the same time, I can't help but admire his body. He is now wearing white long sleeves while his slacks and suit are dark blues. His clothes fit him well and his ex was so strong that I can understand why the female employees who had just boarded the elevator after a few floors that we passed were whispering like that. "Boss is handsome, right?" "What are you? Don't make a noise there." "I just can't help but admire each of his features." "I understand you, but maybe because of your admiration, we will lose our jobs, so shut up." I couldn't help but grin because I couldn't stop laughing when I heard that conversation between the two employees in front of us. I don't know if Bryce heard or saw that in his peripheral vision, so he suddenly looked at me and gave me his evil look again. Until suddenly the elevator rang and stopped and suddenly Bryce pul
"Are you flirting with me, Mr. Bryce Phoenix Huxley?” I didn't see any reaction on his face but I could read the amazement at the same time as the surprise in his eyes. A few more seconds passed without anyone else speaking between us again and the amount of time we stared at each other gave me a strange feeling. I also feel like I'm holding my breath as if I'm underwater. "Is that what you are feeling, Ms. Gia Blythe McKenna?” Until suddenly he spoke and because I still didn't take my eyes off his face, I saw how a silly smile drew on his lips. I swallowed hard because of his hot and fragrant breath hitting my face. “Yes.” That was the answer that came out of my mouth which surprised him again but there was still no reaction on his face. Is this one a robot? If I don't look into his eyes, I won't be able to read any reaction on his face. I could feel the strange warmth in me caused by our position but it seemed to sting even more when Bryce came closer to me causing me to swallow
"Are you sure you want to take me?" I asked Bryce while we were on the yacht going to the other island where we were supposed to buy clothes that I would wear on the day of the prayer for his brother's death anniversary. I didn't have any clothes that would fit in such a gathering, so I was having second thoughts about going along, and another thing is that I'm still not that close to his family. I am only close to his grandparents and I feel comfortable only with them. Because it is certain that on the day of the prayer, many of his relatives will go there. "Yes. You looked restless a while ago. Are you okay?" he asked me. I couldn't avoid my two cheeks getting puffy as he gently pressed them so I gasped. I heard him laugh. "You're really cute, Gia." His compliment to me immediately caused my face to blush which I avoided by stroking him. "I can't help but be nervous because I'll see almost your whole family there," I said while bowing down but my forehead was wrinkled like that an
"Braylon," I called the man one morning when I saw him just finishing helping to organize the things that would be needed that day. "Gia," he also called me and then approached me. He took my medical bag and then we walked to the tent where I was assigned that morning. "Aren't you going to ask where Bryce is?" he suddenly asked and then placed the medical bag on the nearest chair. I smiled and then shook my head. "I already know that he is on the other island to accompany some of their investors." I can't help but be confident as I answer those words. I couldn't stop biting my lips either. Braylon suddenly winced. "Tss. I hope everyone is updated with each other," he promised and then sat in the seat next to the one where he placed the medical bag. "Yours, even if I try to update every minute with everything I've done, I'm doing and I've done, there's still nothing and I don't think there's any hope of being cared about anymore." There are traces of sullenness and sadness in his vo
"Hi." There was an immediate smile on his lips when I faced him. Like the moonlight it was dazzling. Honestly speaking, his good looks are always dazzling. Damn it, Gia. If Bryce came to read your mind, I swear you'll be digging your own grave because of embarrassment. I was exhausted. "What trip did you and Braylon have, hmm?" I kept asking to somehow get rid of the reddening of my face. "What do you mean trip?" His forehead immediately wrinkled when I raised my forehead because I couldn't help but smile. I like it every time his blank face gets different expressions when he talks to me. It makes me feel special because he becomes like that only to me. "This is not a trip, Gia. This is what you called a date." I couldn't help but feel sorry for him confirming that. I know what it is. I already have an idea but I'm preventing myself from assuming anything about this and the fact that he confirmed what brings butterflies into my stomach. When he guided me to sit down, I just let hi
"Where is that cousin of yours, Braylon?" I asked because we had just moved and everyone was on the yacht I still couldn't see him. I think I've been all over this yacht and I still can't see Bryce even though his shadow is gone. Braylon watched me laughing. "Are you so in love with my cousin and you can't be bothered by that? Can't you first be satisfied with the idea and the fact that we are going to see him?" I sighed and then leaned back in my seat. Here we are now in the cockpit. This yacht is not that big compared to the one Bryce and I was on. "Do you think I am in love with him already?" I couldn't avoid being asked although I couldn't look straight at Braylon who did nothing but eat and eat gummies. Suddenly I heard him sigh causing me to look up at him. His face became serious and it immediately gave me a strange feeling of nervousness. "You are in love, Gia." That's how seriously he said those words. "I don't have anything against what you're feeling towards my cousin bu
"Oh? What happened to your face? Why does it look like heaven and earth have fallen?" I asked Braylon one day when he suddenly appeared here again on a medical mission. He snorted and sat in front of my table where sat the patients we see every day. "Include hell as well," he promised. I grimaced and then pinched his forehead causing him to moan, hold him there and give me a bad look. "Get settled. What happened again, huh? Did Saighna ignore you again?" I asked even though I knew Saighna always did that to him. "Is that even a question up until now?" Sadness can be seen in his voice but if I let him feel more and more that the woman doesn't like him, he will only get sadder. I just shook my head and then took a jar of gummy worms from the bag at my side. "Here. Just eat those gummy worms," I promised, and then immediately gave him three. Suddenly, when I looked up at him, he was glaring at me. "Oh why?", "Why three?" he asked and then motioned to me the gummy worms that were a
During the trip back to the medical mission, Bryce still didn't release his grip on my hand. But that's how quickly I let him go when I saw a commotion in the area. We immediately got out of the car when we saw that everyone was in trouble. "What happened?" I asked when I saw Braylon helping the rioters and taking care of the nurses and doctors for the injured residents of the island. "I don't know. Suddenly, something exploded in a house at the far end of the island. When we got there and looked, the whole house was on fire. Fortunately, the people who lived there were outside when it exploded, but because due to the force caused by the explosion, materials from the house were thrown, causing injuries to people close to the area," Braylon explained at length before again supporting the nurses who were just approaching us who had their lead too. I started to act. I went to the tent where the other patients were. Compared to the tents we have been using for the past few days, this o
"Hey.." His voice was very soft. It's like his tone is holding me back. It's too light, the opposite of what I'm feeling now. "Hush now, baby. Shh. I'm here. I won't leave you," he promised as I felt him kiss my hair. We both let each other sit on the grass facing the sea while my tears continued to fall. "I lose my younger sister.." I promised he stopped him even though he hugged me tighter. "I lose her and I blame my parents for so long without thinking that they are also hurt by what happened." I stopped when I felt something start to block my throat. "I blamed them. I blame them and because of that, I become selfish. I didn't think that if I lost my brother, they lost too." I felt even more the tightening of his hug on me even as he kissed my hair again. "I let them feel that they lose both of me and my sister. I failed them. I failed them, Bryce. I failed my parents. I let them feel those things just because I became selfish. I only thought about myself. I'm just thinking about
I don't know what time I fell asleep again this morning. I just woke up when I heard someone talking to Mommy outside. I was going to leave the room. When I woke up and the morning stars were slightly removed from my eyes, I was immediately greeted by a very fragrant and masculine man who smelled like the person who had his back on me now. He was wearing a black suit and from where I was I could see how broad his shoulders were. You wouldn't think there was a wound behind the expensive clothes she was wearing. When Mommy noticed me, her smile widened. They were so beautiful that I almost forgot that he cried last night. "Gia is already awake-" Mommy interrupted what she was about to say when I quickly entered my room again. I remembered that I didn't even have anything in order with my face. Shame! Her perfume was wafting and I didn't even have a toothbrush! Shame on you, Gia! "I guess he will fix it," I heard Mommy promise followed by laughter. I acted quickly and did everything I
I woke up one night when I suddenly heard crying from the other room. I immediately got up and checked what time it was. One o'clock in the morning… I quickly went to my mother's room. It was dark there so I stumbled before finally sitting on the edge of her bed. I felt the lampshade and turned on its light. I immediately got nervous when I saw my mother crying. "Mom," I called her while squeezing her cold and trembling hand. "Mommy, wake up," I said while caressing her cheek. I wiped her tears even though they continued. "Mom. Mommy, wake up." She tossed back and looked like she was catching her breath when she finally woke up. She continued to cry until she turned to me. That's how she whined when she saw me. She hugged both her knees and headed there. She let her crying continue again while I didn't know what to do. "Mom..." I called her. "Mom, you're having a nightmare.." I said and then guided her head to rest on my shoulder so that she could cry there as long as she wanted
