"You're heavy." I suddenly went back into a trance when he lied about that because I'm not that heavy!
Because I was also ashamed of our position, I immediately stood up. When I got ready, I could feel the sharp eyes on me from girls my age and gay men who were fantasizing about this man. I looked up at him again but he and Grandma Briella were already walking away when I looked back at them Grandma and I still met our eyes and then she smiled and let her grandson guide her again while walking. That's when I realized the position that Grandma Briella and Bryce had. Based on the whispers I hear from the elders around, they are the owners of this island.
"Are you all right, sweetheart?" I turned to Dra. McKenna but I chose not to answer her.
I sighed because of what happened. I was so surprised because of the closeness between the two of us earlier that I was not even able to move my eyes around his whole face. My eyes were fixed on his emotionless hazelnut-colored eyes. I don't see any emotion there, but I can feel the coldness that they give.
To be honest, I don't even know what time I fell asleep last night because my back and the bed became a magnet and immediately fixed each other. My eyes were fixed on the ceiling of the house where I was staying with Dra. McKenna. What just happened on my first day on this island has not gone out of my mind. I felt like my organ system was going to run away.
To this day I can feel the heat of my cheeks and I am sure that they were very red because all the blood that I had in my body went up to my cheeks at that time. Add to that my heart that was beating so hard at that time that's all I could hear and with that strength I was already deaf. I was still able to think if maybe even the grandson of Grandma Briella, whose name is Bryce, also heard the thumping of my chest and if it turns out to be yes, I will feed on the ground in so much shame!
I closed my eyes tightly and turned around on the bed causing my blanket to wrap around my body while my both hands were still covering my face. Later I heard the sound of my alarm clock ringing throughout the room. I woke up earlier than my set time because of what happened yesterday
So much for the first day.
I got up and started doing my morning routines until I faced the mirror and started combing my hair that I just finished drying. I'm not that fixated like other women because every hour spent at work is important. It's good that it's simple as long as I look presentable to the patients and the people I interact with throughout the day.
After making sure that everything was fine, I immediately took my things and then left the room. I walked to the kitchen to fill my hydro flask with water when suddenly I was greeted by the fragrant smell of freshly cooked fried rice, eggs, hotdogs, and my favorite dried fish. My stomach immediately grumbled and then hurriedly walked into the kitchen but my excitement immediately disappeared when I saw who was there.
She greeted me with a smile and then took off the apron she was wearing. "It's good that you're awake now, Gia. I just finished cooking. Come here and let's eat." Everything was laid out on the table and she even managed to pull me to a chair while looking at me and couldn't get rid of the smile on her lips.
"I'm not hungry." I simply refused and then went to the water container and then started filling my hydro flask.
"Gia, it's still early and it's bad for you to work on an empty stomach because you'll quickly get weak." She tried to keep trying but I didn't answer her or even look back. I was about to walk out of the kitchen while closing my water tank when she suddenly blocked in front of me before I could even pass the table. She approached and tried to hand me the lunch box which was arranged by her in a hurry to be delivered to me immediately before I could completely leave.
I stopped and then looked at the thing that he was holding. I'm sure that's where the food is. He immediately moved and put it inside the bag I was wearing on my back. "I'm leaving." I didn't want to promise him to leave my presence completely and then I started walking out of the kitchen until I got out of the house.
"Be careful, Gia! I will also follow there later! I'll just stay out of here!” I heard his order but I didn't look back.
When I got to the very place where the mission for the people was being held, they were just fixing each tent so I also helped in stacking the medicines. It took us a few hours so when Dra. McKenna caught up with us preparing until the others arrived and we were completely done with the preparations.
Just a few minutes later, people started arriving so we took care of them immediately. I was standing here with another nurse who was going to give medicine but when I saw an old man with his granddaughter and it was obvious that he was having difficulty walking, I immediately took a wheelchair reserved for the elderly or patients that it was having difficulty to walk and then I immediately approached them and made the old man sitting there. Fortunately, the equipment that Grandpa sent here was complete for the mission that his daughter also initiated.
"Is this the first time you've had Grandpa get a check-up?" I asked the old man's granddaughter with a smile.
"Yes. We are thankful because of Dra. McKenna has a medical mission here in our community because Grandpa's back often hurts but we can't take him to the other island for treatment because we don't have money," It's a long story that I just nodded.
"What's your name, Grandpa?" When I turned to ask the old man who had been looking at me for a while, I smiled at the old man who smiled back.
"My name is Alejandro Smith, child." He answered with a smile while holding the hand of his granddaughter who I think is only fifteen years old.
"What is your name, sweetie?" I turned to ask Grandpa Alejandro's granddaughter.
"Mahalia Smith, Miss Nurse." She was embarrassed because of the reddening of her face, although I don't know what she was embarrassed about.
"Your name is beautiful." I smiled and praised his name at the same time slightly squeezing his fat cheeks which made him blush even more so I couldn't help but laugh a little which made his Grandfather laugh as well.
"Don't call me Miss Nurse because my name is not Nurse. You can call me Miss Gia, hmmkay?” Mahalia scratched her cheek and then looked up and nodded at me and then smiled a little. She's cute. That time I remember someone and that makes me smile longing for that person. "Aside from the pain in your back, do you feel anything else, Grandpa?" I forced myself to turn my attention to the present and then began to question Grandpa's feelings.
"Besides the back pain, my bones often crack even though I don't mean to crack them. It only started one time when I fell down our stairs because of a sudden weakness in my knee. I felt like I had broken a bone in my hip because I fell sideways." Grandpa said and then I stood up to check his breathing with my stethoscope to also find out if there was a strange sound coming from there that could be the cause of other diseases.
"Breath deeply, Grandpa," I ordered the old man while moving the device on both sides of his chest. "One more, Grandpa," I said and then applied the device to the old man's back until it was over, I didn't hear anything else that could be the cause of other pain.
Before returning to my seat, I also noticed Grandpa's stooped posture. I finished what I needed to know about the old man so I could complete his records.
"How is my grandfather doing, Miss Gia?"
"Based on what Grandpa said and my check-up on your Grandpa, he may have osteo-"
"Hi, Sir. Good morning. I'm Dra. Saighna Kieth Hatz. I'm here to check you up, okay?" What I was supposed to say to Mahalia was interrupted when suddenly one of the doctors who were with Dra. McKenna who if I'm not mistaken is only a year older than me.
We turned to her while she was doing her work until I felt Mahalia look at me again it was obvious that she didn't like the presence of the newcomer so I just smiled at her and then nodded. We were all silent until Dra. Hatz finished what she was doing. Saighna then pulled from my hand the record I made with Grandpa and then she wrote something on it when she returned it to me, my analysis was indeed confirmed.
"You have osteoporosis, Sir Alejandro. This is a bone disease where your bones become fragile. Lack of calcium and Vitamin D are some of the causes of this, as well as having a fracture or breaking a bone," Saighna explained. "Do you smoke or drink?"
"Grandpa doesn't have any vices at all," Mahalia replied to which Saighna nodded.
“Good then. We will give you medicine but apart from that, regular exercise is also important, eat foods rich in calcium such as milk, sardines and especially those green and leafy vegetables. Don't forget to bask in the sun every morning for the vitamin D you can get there. Is that clear, Sir?” Saighna asked the old man with a smile after explaining the things Grandpa had to do.
"Thank you very much, Dra. Hatz." The old man responded and then the latter also smiled.
"All right. Nurse Gia will take care of you." Saighna said her goodbye and then squeezed Mahalia's cheek before turning to me. She looked at me with a disgusted expression. I'm not sure if I read what she did correctly so I just ignored it until she finally left.
"Do you remember those reminders of Dra. Hatz, Mahalia?” I asked the girl who immediately responded with a nod, making me smile. "Good because that's what you'll tell your parents when you and Grandpa get home," I said and then handed her a paper with Grandpa's medications which are Bisphosphonates, Calcitonin, Denosumab, Raloxifene and then Zoledronate.
I watched as Mahalia gently pushed Grandpa Alejandro's wheelchair home, but before the grandfather and granddaughter were out of my sight, the noise that was building up around me caught my attention.
"Oh! My! Gosh! Here he is again!”
"Look! Braylon Storm Winsley is with him!"
"Gosh! Why are they here again?"
"Who cares? The only important thing is that I see their handsome faces again!"
I frowned because of what I heard. I followed the direction they were looking and from where I was I saw Bryce with another man. Unlike yesterday when he was wearing a white polo shirt and black shorts, today he is wearing Hawaiian blue with black designs while wearing white shorts and white shoes. While he was walking, I couldn't help but observe the entirety of his face which I couldn't do yesterday no matter how close he was to me.
From his two-block haircut black colored hair, thick eyebrows, and long eyelashes that make his hazelnut-colored eyes more attractive down to his high nose bridge and his natural pinkish thin lips. He’s also tall and has fair skin just like the other guy beside him, although Bryce is much taller than him, you’re only going to notice it if you’re going to observe both of them. According to what I’ve heard his name is Braylon. Fringe-up haircut for his raven-colored hair. He also has thick eyebrows and long eyelashes that make his playful coal-black colored eyes more mesmerizing. Unlike Bryce, he has a pointed nose while his lips are just as thin as Bryce's. He was wearing an orange Hawaiian polo with some white designs matching with black shorts and white shoes. They look so expensive.
"Hi, Nurse Gia." I frowned in surprise because of Braylon's sudden approach to me, which he quickly realized was the reason for his sudden laughter. I was close to the entrance of the tent so it was easy for them to get close to me. "I'm Braylon Storm Winsley." He introduced himself even though I didn't ask and he extended his hand in front of me but I didn't accept it.
"How did you know my name?" I asked him full of surprise while he was with him, I could feel the look that was hitting me even though I didn't look at him and just looked straight at Braylon.
"Whoa. Chill. Grandma Briella keeps on talking about you." It was a smiling response.
"How sure are you that I am that Nurse Gia?"
"Ow. Because Bryce describes you.” Braylon's eyebrows were still raised, obviously teasing as he smirked and looked at me. I raised my eyebrows as I looked at Bryce next to him but he immediately turned his back on us. "You want to know how he described you?"
I immediately got serious and then turned my back on him. I caught sight of Bryce going in the direction where the captain was while I felt Braylon following me as I arranged the medicines on the table in front of me. "So would you like to know about it, Nurse Gia?" There was a teasing tone in his voice again and I didn't know where it was coming from.
"Stop following and talking to me like we're close as best friends. We just know each other's name so we're still strangers to each other." I don't want to be rude but I'm not comfortable with the teasing tone of his voice.
“Ouch! I guessed I just had my first rejection. It hurts.” He promised dramatically and then managed to sing the last sentence he said. Crazy!
For some unknown reason, I felt like someone was watching me, so I looked around until Alistair and I met each other's eyes. What the hell?
I don't know why Bryce looked at me that badly but I just tried not to pay attention to it even more and Braylon’s noises grabbed my attention. He is talking so much while I'm busy taking care of the medicines that haven't been taken out of the box yet. He also picks it up and then places it on the table in front of us while raising both eyebrows and giving me a silly grin. I made him suffer because he looked so annoying. Not because he's not handsome but because of the nonsense I read there. "I know you want to know how Bryce described you last night, Nurse Gia. Come on. Don't be shy. I'll tell you, eh." He even got a wink at me. "How sure are you that I want to know about it?" I raised an eyebrow at him and I don't know why he suddenly burst out laughing causing those people close to where we were to look at us and it felt like someone was watching me. "Because I can see it." Braylon’s simple response to my question made him frown. "What do you mean you can see it?" Braylon imme
I don't know how in such a quick time Bryce immediately got in front of me and immediately caught the blow that I was supposed to get from the furious man. As far as I remember, he wasn't with Braylon when they came to us, but he was here and Braylon came before them to help me. "Let go of me and don't interfere!" That terrifying voice of Alvin echoed throughout the place, causing Mam Elishea to feel so scared that her hands that were holding me trembled. I looked at her and it was obvious that she was very scared and that she was traumatized because of the behavior and actions of her husband. I was just about to turn my eyes to Alvin and Bryce when suddenly Alvin pulled Mam Elishea with one of his hands and because the lady was clinging to me, I was immediately taken by surprise. "Oh! My! Gosh! What is going on?” "Who asked Alvin to drink again?" "They know that's how he is when he drinks, eh." "I did see Alvin drinking with Kevin when I passed by Jayson's house." "Oh! My! Gosh
"Are you all right, Nurse Gia?" My confusion for Ayesha rose when suddenly I could hear the teasing in her tone. "It's like you have a fever because your face is so red." Lyra followed that teasing further and then giggled. "You two should stop and get Nurse Gia some water, not what you're thinking." James reprimanded them and the two immediately scratched their necks and then marched toward the kitchen. "Did you get a big bruise?" I turned to James when he asked that question and it was obvious that Roseanne was interested because she immediately looked at me and listened to my answer. "It's a little big but it's okay because I already put on the ointment that Roseanne gave me," I replied and then felt my bruise again and for a moment I was shocked because of the pain again. I winced because of the realization that I seemed to have temporarily forgotten the bruise I had because of what Bryce had done earlier. "How many days will your bruise last before it completely disappears?"
When I came out of the tent, I couldn't avoid thinking about Braylon's question to Bryce because Braylon himself, who was his cousin, couldn't know what was going through his mind. I just held my breath and when I was about to go to the canopy tent that was closest to me to help another volunteer nurse, I saw a lady carrying her child and a trace of concern on her face, and add to that the speed of her walking that she is almost on all fours. I immediately took action and got a wheelchair and met the mother and daughter who were still far from other people. "Thanks a lot." The lady thanked her and then immediately sat her daughter in the wheelchair and she pushed it there. I immediately followed them as I watched the girl. She has red rashes and it is obvious that she is having trouble swallowing and that she is nauseous. Because of that, I was immediately convinced of what illness she had, although I am not sure yet, I cannot ignore the symptoms I see in the child because if proven,
Braylon and Bryce drove off in their different and beloved cars. The medical mission for today isn't over yet, so I can't rest yet, but that's okay because, besides the fact that I'm not tired yet, I'd rather help the people here than stare at home. "Gia." I turned around when I heard that familiar voice of Dra. McKenna. "Yes, Doctor? Do you need anything?" The shock on her face was obvious when my conversation with her became formal, although since we met again, I have treated her the same way. She is a doctor and I am a nurse. We are in the same field and work so it is only appropriate that I be formal in my conversation with her. "You can c-call me M-Mommy, Gia." Sadness immediately appeared in her voice. "No need, Doctora, besides I'm not used to calling anyone at that address. I have lived without someone I can call Mommy for so many years.” I was cold towards her causing her face to become depressed and her shoulders to fall automatically. "Gia, honey.." She called me, causi
I don't know how many minutes I stood where I was because of what that man Bryce had said before I started walking home again. I passed a few more houses before I finally arrived at the house where Dra. McKenna and I were staying. "Do you think she'll like what I cooked, Dad?" I automatically frowned when I heard that Doctora was talking to someone inside. "Of course. That's your daughter's favorite, Gwen. I'm sure she'll like it even more and you cooked it." My eyes widened when I heard that familiar voice of Grandpa. He's here? Since when? Why didn't he tell me he was coming here? I immediately ran into the house and then ducked into the kitchen just to see Dra. McKenna was preparing food on the table while her laptop was facing her. That's when I realized that he had just made a video called Grandpa. "Gia, you're here," Doctora announced when she saw me, and then she immediately presented the laptop to me and there I saw Grandpa smiling at me. "Good evening, Grandpa." I greete
I don't know what time I fell asleep again since I woke up because of that bad dream. I even woke up earlier than my alarm clock until it rang so I immediately got up. But I also spent a few minutes in a stupor until I decided to go to the bathroom to take a shower and do my routines. After that, I left the house, and just like on my first day, Doctora McKenna was already there at the kitchen table waiting for me. The food she cooked for that morning was also ready there. I would not have accompanied her again and would have turned away from her which was immediately the result of the fall of her shoulders and the immediate look of sadness on her face when the sound of my stomach growling dominated the silence of the house. Because of that, I firmly closed my eyes due to annoyance because I was sure Doctora heard that. "Come here, honey. E-Eat first.” She was so nice to me that I just sighed as I walked closer to the seat closest to me. I remained bowed but Doctora's sweet smile did n
I don't know where Bryce and I are going but I still can't take my eyes off him. Those scars on his body are still bothering me but at the same time, I can't help but admire his body. He is now wearing white long sleeves while his slacks and suit are dark blues. His clothes fit him well and his ex was so strong that I can understand why the female employees who had just boarded the elevator after a few floors that we passed were whispering like that. "Boss is handsome, right?" "What are you? Don't make a noise there." "I just can't help but admire each of his features." "I understand you, but maybe because of your admiration, we will lose our jobs, so shut up." I couldn't help but grin because I couldn't stop laughing when I heard that conversation between the two employees in front of us. I don't know if Bryce heard or saw that in his peripheral vision, so he suddenly looked at me and gave me his evil look again. Until suddenly the elevator rang and stopped and suddenly Bryce pul
"Are you sure you want to take me?" I asked Bryce while we were on the yacht going to the other island where we were supposed to buy clothes that I would wear on the day of the prayer for his brother's death anniversary. I didn't have any clothes that would fit in such a gathering, so I was having second thoughts about going along, and another thing is that I'm still not that close to his family. I am only close to his grandparents and I feel comfortable only with them. Because it is certain that on the day of the prayer, many of his relatives will go there. "Yes. You looked restless a while ago. Are you okay?" he asked me. I couldn't avoid my two cheeks getting puffy as he gently pressed them so I gasped. I heard him laugh. "You're really cute, Gia." His compliment to me immediately caused my face to blush which I avoided by stroking him. "I can't help but be nervous because I'll see almost your whole family there," I said while bowing down but my forehead was wrinkled like that an
"Braylon," I called the man one morning when I saw him just finishing helping to organize the things that would be needed that day. "Gia," he also called me and then approached me. He took my medical bag and then we walked to the tent where I was assigned that morning. "Aren't you going to ask where Bryce is?" he suddenly asked and then placed the medical bag on the nearest chair. I smiled and then shook my head. "I already know that he is on the other island to accompany some of their investors." I can't help but be confident as I answer those words. I couldn't stop biting my lips either. Braylon suddenly winced. "Tss. I hope everyone is updated with each other," he promised and then sat in the seat next to the one where he placed the medical bag. "Yours, even if I try to update every minute with everything I've done, I'm doing and I've done, there's still nothing and I don't think there's any hope of being cared about anymore." There are traces of sullenness and sadness in his vo
"Hi." There was an immediate smile on his lips when I faced him. Like the moonlight it was dazzling. Honestly speaking, his good looks are always dazzling. Damn it, Gia. If Bryce came to read your mind, I swear you'll be digging your own grave because of embarrassment. I was exhausted. "What trip did you and Braylon have, hmm?" I kept asking to somehow get rid of the reddening of my face. "What do you mean trip?" His forehead immediately wrinkled when I raised my forehead because I couldn't help but smile. I like it every time his blank face gets different expressions when he talks to me. It makes me feel special because he becomes like that only to me. "This is not a trip, Gia. This is what you called a date." I couldn't help but feel sorry for him confirming that. I know what it is. I already have an idea but I'm preventing myself from assuming anything about this and the fact that he confirmed what brings butterflies into my stomach. When he guided me to sit down, I just let hi
"Where is that cousin of yours, Braylon?" I asked because we had just moved and everyone was on the yacht I still couldn't see him. I think I've been all over this yacht and I still can't see Bryce even though his shadow is gone. Braylon watched me laughing. "Are you so in love with my cousin and you can't be bothered by that? Can't you first be satisfied with the idea and the fact that we are going to see him?" I sighed and then leaned back in my seat. Here we are now in the cockpit. This yacht is not that big compared to the one Bryce and I was on. "Do you think I am in love with him already?" I couldn't avoid being asked although I couldn't look straight at Braylon who did nothing but eat and eat gummies. Suddenly I heard him sigh causing me to look up at him. His face became serious and it immediately gave me a strange feeling of nervousness. "You are in love, Gia." That's how seriously he said those words. "I don't have anything against what you're feeling towards my cousin bu
"Oh? What happened to your face? Why does it look like heaven and earth have fallen?" I asked Braylon one day when he suddenly appeared here again on a medical mission. He snorted and sat in front of my table where sat the patients we see every day. "Include hell as well," he promised. I grimaced and then pinched his forehead causing him to moan, hold him there and give me a bad look. "Get settled. What happened again, huh? Did Saighna ignore you again?" I asked even though I knew Saighna always did that to him. "Is that even a question up until now?" Sadness can be seen in his voice but if I let him feel more and more that the woman doesn't like him, he will only get sadder. I just shook my head and then took a jar of gummy worms from the bag at my side. "Here. Just eat those gummy worms," I promised, and then immediately gave him three. Suddenly, when I looked up at him, he was glaring at me. "Oh why?", "Why three?" he asked and then motioned to me the gummy worms that were a
During the trip back to the medical mission, Bryce still didn't release his grip on my hand. But that's how quickly I let him go when I saw a commotion in the area. We immediately got out of the car when we saw that everyone was in trouble. "What happened?" I asked when I saw Braylon helping the rioters and taking care of the nurses and doctors for the injured residents of the island. "I don't know. Suddenly, something exploded in a house at the far end of the island. When we got there and looked, the whole house was on fire. Fortunately, the people who lived there were outside when it exploded, but because due to the force caused by the explosion, materials from the house were thrown, causing injuries to people close to the area," Braylon explained at length before again supporting the nurses who were just approaching us who had their lead too. I started to act. I went to the tent where the other patients were. Compared to the tents we have been using for the past few days, this o
"Hey.." His voice was very soft. It's like his tone is holding me back. It's too light, the opposite of what I'm feeling now. "Hush now, baby. Shh. I'm here. I won't leave you," he promised as I felt him kiss my hair. We both let each other sit on the grass facing the sea while my tears continued to fall. "I lose my younger sister.." I promised he stopped him even though he hugged me tighter. "I lose her and I blame my parents for so long without thinking that they are also hurt by what happened." I stopped when I felt something start to block my throat. "I blamed them. I blame them and because of that, I become selfish. I didn't think that if I lost my brother, they lost too." I felt even more the tightening of his hug on me even as he kissed my hair again. "I let them feel that they lose both of me and my sister. I failed them. I failed them, Bryce. I failed my parents. I let them feel those things just because I became selfish. I only thought about myself. I'm just thinking about
I don't know what time I fell asleep again this morning. I just woke up when I heard someone talking to Mommy outside. I was going to leave the room. When I woke up and the morning stars were slightly removed from my eyes, I was immediately greeted by a very fragrant and masculine man who smelled like the person who had his back on me now. He was wearing a black suit and from where I was I could see how broad his shoulders were. You wouldn't think there was a wound behind the expensive clothes she was wearing. When Mommy noticed me, her smile widened. They were so beautiful that I almost forgot that he cried last night. "Gia is already awake-" Mommy interrupted what she was about to say when I quickly entered my room again. I remembered that I didn't even have anything in order with my face. Shame! Her perfume was wafting and I didn't even have a toothbrush! Shame on you, Gia! "I guess he will fix it," I heard Mommy promise followed by laughter. I acted quickly and did everything I
I woke up one night when I suddenly heard crying from the other room. I immediately got up and checked what time it was. One o'clock in the morning… I quickly went to my mother's room. It was dark there so I stumbled before finally sitting on the edge of her bed. I felt the lampshade and turned on its light. I immediately got nervous when I saw my mother crying. "Mom," I called her while squeezing her cold and trembling hand. "Mommy, wake up," I said while caressing her cheek. I wiped her tears even though they continued. "Mom. Mommy, wake up." She tossed back and looked like she was catching her breath when she finally woke up. She continued to cry until she turned to me. That's how she whined when she saw me. She hugged both her knees and headed there. She let her crying continue again while I didn't know what to do. "Mom..." I called her. "Mom, you're having a nightmare.." I said and then guided her head to rest on my shoulder so that she could cry there as long as she wanted
