Chapter 37: He Knows

I slowly sat down, dusting out a little dirt that my body caught. With a forced and fake smile on my lips, I stood up.

My heart was racing so bad and I felt like I couldn't breathe properly anymore. Samuel’s eyes were locked with mine as he watched me get to my feet.

“Who’s there?” I overheard Esther’s voice approaching.

Samuel doesn’t need to give her an answer as she arrives, rushing. Her wet eyes landed on me.

I bowed my head once and turned my back to continue to leave. With my eyes shut and fingers crossed, I took a step away. I was badly hoping Samuel would let me get away with this. Just this once.

“You’re eavesdropping on us and after you get caught, you are just thinking of getting away with it as if nothing happened?” Samuel’s voice was low, but not calm.

I could feel every word as he muttered it with diction.
