Scarlett's POV

The sound of the alarm was what woke me up the next morning. Although it's not like I had gotten much sleep, I had cried myself to sleep long after Aaron left, after he had humiliated me and my mother. I suppress the urge to find him and murder him with my bare hands.

This, along with the threats from the landlord about Ma's long-overdue rent, were the thoughts running through my head this morning.

I made my way to the kitchen. The scent of waffles filled the air. Ma was already up.

Her back was turned to me. “Morning Mom”
