She knew working with Mark meant trouble, but never did she believe that the both of them would be working in the same office until it happened right before her very eyes, and now she had no other option than to be on guard around him.
"Are you going to keep sighing like this, Mrs Sky?" Mark teased.
Her heart jumped, “I’m allowed to sigh as much as I want," she fiercely replied.
“Yes yes, you can sigh as much as you want to, I must admit, I did miss the way you reacted whenever you were tired or hated something,” he answered with a crooked smile.
Tempted to tell him off she rose her head and met Mark's face with surprise, she didn’t even notice when he drew near.
She felt her insides stir up like she had spun around for almost an hour, that sickening nausea erupted the more time she spent looking at his face.
"You disappoint me, my dear, to think you would abandon me, only to marry my cousin," his left hand stretched out to her as he caressed a lock of her hair that lingered at the front.
“It was you wasn’t it?” She asked as she stepped back.
“Hmm?! I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he laughed innocently as he stood from her table and walked over to him.
Leia paused, and the corners of her eyes twitched as her breathing increased.
Just watching this man in the same room with her was enough to infuriate her as she got up with a force that her chair flew backwards.
Her teeth grind while she straightened her suit and hurried over with some papers tightly clenched in her hand, and before Mark could take his seat, she flagged the paper before him.
“Now listen up, I already paid for what I did, we had a deal, and I played my part well," she told him.
Mark just stood still as he watched her complain with a smile on his face.
Unknown to her, her words went through one ear and got out of the other as she spoke to him.
A little scoff from him was what it took to finally send the message that he was interested or listening to what she had to say.
When he couldn’t hold it back anymore, he finally exploded with a peal of loud laughter, it was a good thing the doors were soundproof.
“Still as feisty as ever, now ain't you darling," he said as he brushed her lips with his finger.
Leia sneered at him at the mention of that word, enraged to the point where she aimed to bite off his pretty fingers.
“Seeing that you’re now happy as the wife of my rich cousin, I’m wondering if you truly loved my cousin?”
“More than you’d ever dream about,” she said with a smile as bright as the sun, automatically causing Mark to have the opposite reaction, “so, I’d appreciate it, if you pretend not to know me, from now on, we’re nothing more than strangers, got it?”
Growl~
Leia’s stomach grumbled, as her face turned redder than a tomato.
“Pfft! At least take care of yourself before threatening me,” he mocked her.
He snickered once he saw how embarrassed she was, but there couldn’t have been a better opportunity than now.
Quickly he seized her hand and pulled her in, his arms wrapped around her waist so tight that she could not break free as his arms suddenly felt like they were made of bricks.
“Would you like to take a break now?" He asked, feigning ignorance of his actions as she battled in his arms.
"That sounds very much needed,” she answered calmly to soothe him as she struggled.
As soon as she answered, he let go of her, finally satisfied to hear her reply softly and strolled over to place an order as if nothing happened, suddenly he stopped to ask for Leia’s order.
She couldn’t help but notice the way he stared at her, but not a word left his mouth and she as well wasn’t willing to speak to him.
Once he was done staring, he returned to the phone, “yes, I’ll take two of your waffles special with cream, and some dried fruits..." he explained.
“I won’t be having either of that,” she yelled, her eyes wide open almost as if they would bulge out at any time.
Her heart was thumping as she stared at him, horrified.
“Tacos or pancakes would do,” she alerted him with a poker face.
Unpleased, Mark could only return to his phone when he suddenly smirked as he placed the orders.
An awkward tension accompanied by dead silence flooded the room as they prepared for their break.
Leia helped herself to some coffee before her stomach took the next opportunity to embarrass her while Mark ordered takeouts.
She glanced towards his direction and watched him carefully, he didn’t seem dangerous from a distance, but she knew too well how good he was at hiding his emotions.
“If you keep glaring at me, I’m afraid I might end up with holes in my face,” Mark said with a chuckle.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself, I just have a few things I’m thinking about, and I just got stuck in the cloud,” she answered.
“Ha-Ha!”
A bewildered Leia could only watch as Mark’s laugh echoed throughout the room like a madman.
When he finally stopped laughing, he stared at the papers in his hands and muttered, “you’re still a terrible liar.”
She was speechless, it bothered her to know that this man knew her too well, even when he placed her orders, he knew exactly what she craved.
Knock! Knock!!
A woman at the door held a package in her hand as she waved it at the door to verify that their order had come in.
She was Mark’s secretary, but at the moment, since Leia was without any, she was their watchman assigned by the BOD, someone who had been placed to keep eye on her.
“I just received an invite for the both of you,” she said.
Leia and Mark stared at themselves, thoughts running through her head as she was greatly concerned about what she was going to do about the situation that she got goosebumps from the thoughts of walking with him to an event.
“And who is the invitation from?”
“The Eva hotel is marking its golden jubilee this year, many high ranking and famous people will be attending, as well as you and Mark,” she answered much to the disgust of Leia.
“Your point?”
“For your first test, you are to make an important remark to the CEO. You would only be damaging our company's image, so you have to attend, both of you, together."
At the drop of the bomb, Leia could only click her tongue while Mark nearly died as he choked with laughter.
“It seems like the universe is on my side, Mrs Sky," Mark said with a mischievous grin. “I sure hope you prepare yourself.”
“What am I going to do?” Leia cried alone in the bathroom. With her back against the wall, she gently slid down till she sat on the floor. “Ha~ I’m finished,” she laughed while she sniffled. With deep sighs, she folded her legs in, her head resting against the door as she closed her eyes. Leia began to ponder, “if I turn myself in, would he finally forgive me?” she asked herself, but she knew the answer to that question more than anyone else, to her, it was a definite, no.The day of the celebration was just a night away, the air of trouble lingered and the tension accompanied by it had her choked with confusion. If anything, her urge to watch him disappear only grew, and so did her fears. There was no one to confide in, her in-laws reeked of wickedness and hatred for her, her husband was locked away and she was all alone.Well almost. As the night drew near, the skies became swamped with thick dark clouds that overshadowed the moon and chased away the stars, even the street lights
Leia felt suffocated as her world and sanity crumbled with each passing minute. She felt chained to her dark past and talking about it would be the perfect solution to get help, if she just opened her mouth but…“She might hate me and want to settle ties,” the weight of her crimes upon her shoulders, was just too much for an ordinary person to overlook. Finally, her lips separate as she decides for herself.“He’s my ex,” Leia says.…"Are you sure he ain't stalking you?" Rachel asks with one brow pent upwards, staring at Leia through the mirror. Leia knew too well that stalking was not near enough to explain her situation, but since she was just feeding Rachel the icing on the cake, it didn’t matter. The girl wasn’t sure what to say. Whether or not he was stalking couldn’t still doesn’t erase the fact that she’ll want him off her back.“I mean if my ex did that to me, I would have called the police,” Rachel yelled. Her gaze couldn’t meet Rachel’s because she knew her version of the
Ah, she's always hated that devil. The way he smiled at her with his arm stretched out made her sick to her stomach, but as much as she craves to spit on his face, she was forced to put up with him and smile. With an umbrella, he leads her away from the rain and towards his black car, parked at the entrance of Rachel's house, while Rachel just watches from the window as her friend leaves. "What are you doing here?" He asks as soon as he gets in. Leia scoffs at his question as the answer is quite obvious. "I live here, and I plan to do so until my husband returns," she breaks the news to him. For a brief moment, there's a short silence as he drives with his eyes forward, giving the road his attention. Throughout their drive, he doesn't ask any other questions which seems to please her, because the thought of a prolonged conversation with her enemy has her fuming with rage. It isn't until a few minutes on the road that Leia realizes she has no idea where we're going. "What ab
"Bring the dress over here.""Where's her shoe!"The morning begins with everyone running as if the earth is coming to an end.Leia's room is crowded with people ready to assist her in her journey of getting ready for the grand event, as the day finally arrives. To Leia's surprise last night, the place Mark was taking her to turn out to be his house and she wasn't in the best state to argue with him. Sitting before the mirror, she feels her forehead, for a brief moment. Her fever hasn't gone down, but she continues to wave it off whenever she's been asked about her unusual temperature. "I'm fine," she tells them with a smile, and since employees aren't expected to meddle, they can only agree with her claims. "Would you prefer these?" One of the workers asks, presenting her with the boxes of jewellery. To Leia, It's disturbing to know that Mark remembers every detail about her, as everything before her was what she used to like before she changed her taste to become a new person.
Everything looked perfect. The lights, the music, the delicious aroma that followed the butler around. Leia and Mark arrive at the hotel where the celebration is being held, and she marvels at the prestigious face she saw around her. Everything there was good. "You never thought you'd be in their midst one day, did you?" Mark whispers closely, tickling her ear with his breath. Leia flinches from surprise as she jumps back. Her brows curve in anger. He was right though, during her journey as a journalist, she always had to wait until she was called upon to attend such gatherings. When Leia did attend, she had to wait until she got the opportunity to be called upon to interview them. For a journalist, this was paradise. "If you had just stayed by my side a little longer, maybe you wouldn't need to wait for such occasions to speak with them," he said. The both of them stare at each other for a brief moment. Something was telling her to be on guard so she could never be comfortab
"We'll take the main entrance," he tells her after trying numerous calls, which unfortunately doesn't go through as everyone is having the time of their life. "So long as I'm far from you, that works just fine."Leia surveys the large entrance of the Hotel which was teeming with noisy socialites. "Let's go this way," he tells her. They help themselves over the tiring walk around the building till they reach the front. Leia couldn't help but feel her eyes water from all the glaring flashes as she experiences life on the red carpet for a second time in one day.Her annoyance levels suddenly skyrockets when she hears the cloying voice of another devil. "Oh, Leia! It's such a surprise to see you here!" Leia could tell that voice even if it were faint. Her eyebrow twitches in irritation and she places on a fake smile for the sake of the camera."Janette darling! It's great to see you". The feeling is neutral for Janette, who fakes her smile at her discomfort, baring her white te
"Thank you," Leia says as she accepts the award from Mrs Fabien. The woman smiles at her gently, but then the smile quickly changes as she raises an eyebrow. "Are you okay dear?" Mrs Fabien asks. At this moment, Leia feels sweat roll down her face in a lazy line. Her body feels almost as if it were on fire. She shakes her head and waves off Mrs Fabien's worry, meanwhile clenching the award in her sweaty grip. She automatically swallows the bile rising in her throat before facing the podium with the object in her hand. She knows that it is customary to give a speech during such events. Leia has drafted out a speech, but as soon as she looks at the crowd everything upstairs vanishes without a single trace. She feels her stomach roll in anxiety as she looks at the expectant faces of the guests. If she remained quiet for long, she would draw attention to herself and disappoint the family, and of course, she didn't want to disappoint anyone. She didn't want to fail. But Leia was neve
Leia storms out of the building with a flurry of hurried steps, almost running as she ignores Rachel's shouts behind her. The words from the tv were still ringing in her ears.'I didn't want to hide him but it seemed like the ….. only choice'.She felt sick. Absent-mindedly Leia notes that her fever was most likely back but she didn't care as she rushed to the parking lot.Upon arriving she meets with the driver who's just about to leave, and stops him. He opened his mouth, most likely to greet Leia, but she cut in before he could speak."Keys," she demands, her hand outstretched in front of his stunned face.He gaped for a moment before composing himself."I'm sorry ma'am but I can't do that. It would be better if I drove." He says quickly, trying to avoid her eyes. Saying those words didn't make Leia change her mind as she glared at him before simply snatching the keys from his vest pocket."Ma'am!." He yelps in a squeaky voice.Unbothered by his yelling, she shoves him away from
