VIOLET POV
My hand fumbled around in my bag in search of my phone but when I finally fished it out, I noticed it was dead.
I suspired in disappointment and then mumbled to myself, half shrugging, “It will be a surprise visit then,”
I had just closed from work and I've been looking forward to visiting my boyfriend at his apartment.
Shuffling to the sidewalk, I flagged down a taxi that took me straight to my destination. On reaching there, I paid the driver his fare, even tipping him a little.
I scaled up the stairs to the second floor and ultimately froze before a grey metal door. I reached into my bag and took out the spare key he'd given me ten months ago.
Soon, I stepped into the living room and dropped my bag on the couch.
"Honey," I called out in a loving tone.
No answer.
I headed to the kitchen, but he wasn't there.
So I decided to check out the bedroom. I found the door was slightly ajar and considering the aspect of privacy, I made to knock.
But I froze when suggestive sounds unexpectedly drifted out of the room. At that, my heart temporarily forgot its one job for a moment.
Were my ears playing tricks on me? No, it couldn't be... It couldn't be what I was thinking.
I shook off the appalling thoughts that had sneakily crept into my mind. Norman loved me so much, he...he wouldn't betray me.
But then...the sounds of frenzied moans crescendoedand I let curiosity get the best of me.
I pushed the door wider and stepped into the bedroom, only to witness what I'd never dreamt of in a million years.
"Ah~ Fuck me harder, baby~ Ahh~!"
"You're so naughty, Alvina,"
My fears were confirmed and I felt my heart, in that moment, shattering into a thousand pieces.
There he was, my boyfriend of two years, on his bed, with a woman I had never met before, in a compromising position.
“Norman!” I cried out shakily, my eyes already misty.
My abrupt yell caused him to jump up instantly and upon locking eyes with me, he tried to cover his shame and that of the unknown lady as well.
"Why?!" I queried, my voice filled with anger and the hurt of his betrayal.
"V-Violet, i-it's not what it looks like," he stammered.
I scoffed a bitter laugh, "Oh really? Then explain, Norman," I crossed my arms before my chest, "Convince me that you weren't sleeping with some random girl. Convince me that you two were just playing house!"
The girl on the bed looked annoyed. "Norman, you didn't tell me you had a girlfriend," she said. Then she got off the bed to gather her things, which were scattered about the room.
"Alvina..." Norman called her with a look of guilt.
"Don't ever call me again," the red-haired lady said as she slipped into her clothes quickly.
Then she walked to me and sized me up and down with a stuck-up look, "And I'm not some..." she made mocking air quotes, "...random girl. I have way more class than you ever will, bitch!" With that, she brusquely jostled me before walking out the door.
Norman got off the bed, a towel draped around his waist. Then he tried coming close to me, but I unfolded my arms and told him not to move an inch.
"Violet," he softly said with a pleading look, "...please, calm down. I didn't mean for this to happen."
But I wasn't having any of it. "Can you even listen to yourself?" I spat, feeling the tears starting to well up in my eyes.
Why did I fall for a lying, cheating jerk?
Palpable tension lingered in the air between us and he soon broke the silence, raking his hand through his already tousled brown hair.
“Look, Violet, it's not entirely my fault, you're also to blame for this,"
His words made me wish I could just tear him apart. He cheated on me and still had the guts to shift blame on me as well?
Wow!
"I am a man with needs, you know. And you won’t even let me touch you,”
I nodded, a bitter smile tugging at the corners of my lips.
"So, it's my fault?! It's my fault for wanting to keep myself for you till the wedding night?" I questioned him.
Norman sighed, "Well...it's already happened. But...I promise it'll never happen again. Even if it does, you shouldn't worry, you're still the only one in my..."
"Shut up," I said, my low voice quaking with spiking rage.
"What?" He asked, a frown already etching on his face.
And I lost it.
"SHUT UP. JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOU SCOUNDREL!" I howled, tears rolling down my face freely.
I shook my head, feeling a mix of overwhelming sadness and anger, "I'm done, Norman. We're over!"
Making a swift pivot, I exited the room, leaving him and his betrayal behind.
"Violet..."
I slammed the door behind me, heading straight for the final exit of the apartment, not even glancing over my shoulder once.
£¢^£¢
I stepped out of Norman’s apartment building. Night had come, the evening breeze made my hair flutter and my clothes to billow. It softly caressed my skin but failed to placate my broken heart.
I stared at the sparsely starred sky, my lips quivering as I fought to restrain another tear from cascading. But when I failed, I quickly wiped my cheek with the back of my hand and stalked out into the night.
As I plodded along the quiet road that would lead to the main road, I got lost in my musings as various thoughts freely invaded my mind.
When I felt too punch-drunk to continue, I decided to pause and rest on the public bench situated under a particular tree.
Just a moment later, I was taken aback by a distant howl that, despite its remoteness, filled me with a sense of discomfort.
I rose from the bench and my feet went on autopilot, wanting to reach the main road as soon as possible. Out of nowhere, I detected a strange noise coming from the trees in front of me, making my heart race.
Just when I thought of making a pivot, I heard the distressed voice of someone calling out for help. My instinct as a doctor kicked in instantly and I rushed forward, tracing the exact location of the one who needed help. I found the person—a man with the build of a linebacker—sitting up against a tree ahead.
Reaching his exact spot, I was stunned to find that he didn’t even have a stitch on. But this wasn’t the time to question why it was so. I removed my jacket and covered him before struggling to make him stand.
Damn, he was quite heavy!
But I couldn’t just leave him here. With the degree of injuries he had, he could die.
With him leaning on me, we slowly ambled over to the main road. I planned to take him to the hospital, for that was where he would get proper attention.
“No… hospital,” he mumbled to me with a shake of his head, his eyes still tightly shut, holding his injured side.
“You’re badly injured,” I reasoned, preparing to hail a taxi.
“No,” he stubbornly shook his head, “No hospital, please. Bad for my kind,” he said through gritted teeth.
I lifted a brow in wonder. Was he perhaps a fleeing criminal? Was he afraid his pursuers would find him at the hospital?
“I’ll bring you to my home then,” I finally relented and he managed to say a word of thanks.
Finally, we got into a taxi and I could see the driver looking at us weirdly, but I didn’t mind.
When we got to my apartment’s building, I assisted the mysterious man out of the vehicle and paid the frowning driver the fare. Thankfully, my apartment was on the first floor, otherwise taking the stairs in his condition would be awful.
Soon, I had him sit on the sofa and quickly rushed get my first aid kit and a few other essentials. Not long after, he was asleep on the couch, covered by a blanket and I couldn't help but admire the man in front of me.
If beauty was a sin, then he would grab the title of the biggest sinner. Even though he was pale from the pain, his attractiveness stat didn’t go down.
Subconsciously, I gulped at the exposed shoulder and the outline of his solid 6 packs. It took a lot of willpower to tear my gaze off him.
After showering and changing into a fresh set of clothes, I went to check up on him. Seeing that he was still unconscious, I whirled on my heel and headed for the entrance door, holding my purse in hand.
VIOLET'S POVI opened the door to my shared apartment, clutching a fancy shopping bag with a golden handle in my left hand. As I crossed the threshold, I heard Kate, my flatmate, laughing, which made me furrow my brow in intrigue.Having shared this apartment with her for almost ten months, I had come to believe that her expressions were just limited to a vacant stare or a frown.Making sure the door was safely locked, I turned on my heel and walked to the sitting room, only to find the mysterious man now seated, his lower half wrapped in the blanket and smiling at Kate who had her arm hooked around him with a sunny expression. My brows knotted as confusion took its toll on my mind. What was going on between them? Did they know each other?Still, I was happy the unknown man was awake.I was exhausted from my short trip outside; I could already envision myself hugging my pillow long ago. There was indeed no place like home."It's good that you're awake," I said, a tired smile lifting
Violet's POVIt turned out the man had already left last night. Well...not that I cared about him; Kate could have him to herself, I couldn't care less."Remember your promise," I heard Kate say as I padded towards the door, dressed up and set for work. She was lying on the couch, the TV remote on the side table, along with a bowl of popcorn.I ignored her words and made my way out of the apartment. Taught to be courteous, I exchanged pleasantries with a few friendly neighbours.Soon, I flagged down a taxi that would take me to my destination, which was the city's hospital.En route, I unexpectedly found myself caught up in a traffic snarl, and I couldn't shake off my worries. As seconds morphed into minutes, I kept looking out the window, internally praying that the traffic would ease up soon but that didn't seem to be happening.I could already imagine the scolding I would receive from my supervisor and I sighed resignedly, leaning my back on the chair once more. After what felt lik
Violet’s POVMy blood ran cold, my heart sprang up to my throat in that moment.Seeing my life flashing before my eyes, I reacted quickly, falling back just in time. The sound of screeching tires was jarring and I instinctively placed my hands on my ears. The car soon hit a nearby light pole, forcefully coming to a halt. My buckling knees lost strength, sending me to the ground.'That was so close. So scary,' I thought, placing my right hand on my heaving chest, my breaths erratic.'Breathe, Violet, breathe!' I internally encouraged myself. The crash had naturally got the attention of many and I watched as several people curiously flocked to the car's spot. With my breathing now almost steady, I rose from the ground, smoothening the creases on my clothes. Then curiosity got me walking towards the crowd. The one who drove the car had come out, weak and a little injured, same as his partner. The wailing of police sirens soon caught everyone's attention. I, along with the others, co
Axel's POV“Violet” Her name fell from my lips as the world snapped back into focus, and a dull ache pulsed behind my eyes. How could I have let myself lose control like that? My chest rose as I saw her figure sprawled on the floor. Panic shot through me like lightning and I dropped to my knees, hands shaking as I gathered her limp body into my arms. Her skin felt too cold, but she was breathing, it was shallow but I was relieved it was there.I titled her head a little to cradle her in my arms exposing my mark on her neck, instantly a sickening wave of horror crashed over me.No. No, no, no.I wasn’t supposed to— I came here to reject her, to cut this bond before it could ruin everything. But the second my eyes locked on her, the second her scent curled through my senses, my wolf lunged forward taking over. I lost control. And now—Now she was bound to me.My stomach twisted painfully. Violet was human. She wasn’t built to handle this. The bond was too strong, too much for her body
Violet's POV It was a pain I had never felt before, I felt it every inch of my body, burning so deep that I wondered if I had been set on fire. My head pounded, my limbs ached, and my throat felt like I had swallowed broken glass. For a moment, I thought I had died. That my soul had been ripped away and shoved back in against its will. This was by far the worst accident I i had encountered but then it hit me, I wasn't in any accident I was assaulted! The memory came back of his possessiveness before his teeth had sunk into my skin, sending a deep and tearing pain spreading through me before everything had gone dark. Abruptly my eyes snapped open, my chest rising and falling in heavy breaths as I forced myself upright. My hands trembled, my heart beating so hard I thought it might burst.I was on the couch in the main room. The lights were dim but Axel was nowhere in sight. That alone made my shoulders relax a little, but the throbbing in my neck pulled me back. My fingers reached
Violet POVI sat frozen on my bed, my eyes glued to the screen. My eyes burned, but I didn’t blink. I had read the same paragraphs over and over, my mind refusing to accept what was in front of me.Werewolves. Real life four legged wolf half human beings!I scrolled endlessly, absorbing every detail. Check-in for their weakness, Silver. Wolfsbane. Strong scents that could mask a human from their senses. Werewolves were real! And I was living with one.The words wouldn’t stop echoing in my head. The realization hadn’t dulled, hadn’t settled. If anything, it grew worse, clawing at my sanity, making my skin prickle every time the apartment creaked and I held my breath hoping she wasn't the one coming in to complete what she'd started. My clock ticked through the silent room, morning was creeping in, but I had barely rested. My body ached from exhaustion, but my mind wouldn’t stop racing.Anytime I closed my eyes all I could see was her trying to rip my throat out, I had to get away befo
Violet’s POVI was burned under my skin as I clutched my bag, my fingers digging into the strap. I couldn't believe Kate would do this to me, she knew how important this was to me and she could easily try to sabotage it because of a man she met.I didn't care how handsome he was. This was preposterous and insane, still not the craziest thing I found out in the last 24hrs.I couldn’t storm back to the apartment and give her a piece of my mind, I wasn’t stupid. If I confronted her, who knew what she’d do? The memory of her claws digging into my throat sent a chill down my spine. No, I wasn't going to risk my life.I let out a sigh, my grip loosening. “Daniel you gotta help me out here, I've worked my butt off, taken no leave, I've done everything by the book, you can't let them take me off the job” I pleaded desperately.Daniel sighed beside me, shifting on his feet. "Look, I know this isn’t fair. Everyone knows you have potential. They aren’t letting you go, but… you should stay away.
Violet’s POV I groaned out, feeling a sharp, throbbing pain in my skull as I drifted back to consciousness. My body felt heavy, my limbs sluggish. I forced my eyes open, the ground feeling rough beneath me and the place clogged with dust."You brought a human here?" A voice yelled out startling me.A second voice answered, defensive. "The scent led to her, I don't know what we did wrong."I stiffened, and my breath hitched as realization dawned on me.they weren’t talking about just any human. They were talking about me.My hands were bound, the rope digging into my wrists, but it was tied loosely. They hadn’t bothered to blindfold me anymore because I was human and they believed I was defenseless.I stayed still, listening and looking around as much as I could. They weren’t looking at me. The one who had yelled was pacing, his boots scraping against the floor. The other two stood rigid as if bracing for more anger.Slowly, carefully, I shifted back. My heart pounded so hard I could
Violet's POV The drive was so uncomfortable, Axel stayed quiet, his eyes closed like he was meditating but he knew every time I wanted to touch him."Stop" his lips barely moved as he uttered the word stopping me from touching his hair. His features looked more handsome in the dark shade of the car and I was bored out of my mind.My phone battery was dead and there was nothing else to do but annoy him."Are there any humans in your pack?""No" he kept giving curt replies to everything. My mind had gone through every possibility either I would be killed by a wolf or killed from being bored. His gloomy mood stemmed from Kate's anger earlier. If he was promised to her why was he so determined to get me?Maybe the mate bond had influenced it.Still, I had made my decision and I was going to see it through to the bitter end. Being in a city of wolves would be a new experience, maybe they had a hospital.“Is there a hospital in your pack?” I asked.“Yes” the thought made my heart swell.T
Violet's POV I carefully parked next to the haphazardly parked convoy on my driveway. Axel pushed off the car he was leaning on taking a step toward me.I stepped down, meeting him halfway. He let out a sigh of relief and reached to touch me, but I stopped him by raising my hand to block him."Axel, what's going on?" I questioned looking around. There were about five men situated next to a car. They all looked in our direction. I wanted to convince myself they were looking at their leader, Axel, but, no, they were looking at ME.Judging by their scornful looks, they had a problem with my existence."You just arrived, why don't we sit and confabulate" I cocked a brow at him, my gaze narrowing as I noticed something I missed the first time,He seemed anxious.Nothing like the jittering type, but I could tell by the way he tried to feign confidence. He was good at masking it, but seeing him in a stern demeanor all this time, I could tell there was a difference. It must be because of the
Violet's POV "Hi Dad" I spoke into the receiver when the call went through. I held the phone to my ear, my fingers gripping the device tightly."Pumpkin!" I could hear the excitement in his voice, making my heart swell with warmth. "How are you, my baby fox?""Dad!" I chuckled and felt a rush of heat rising in my cheeks. "Oh sorry I forgot you're now a big fox" he corrected clearly ignoring the part of the nickname I wanted gone."I wish I were your baby fox" I sighed, my shoulders sank into the driver's seat.I was inside Elias' car thinking of my next move. To run away from the toxicity to Nashville where my parents lived or fight through and see what else fate decided to throw my way."Everyone has a choice, Pumpkin. Are you okay?" He asked, sensing my sad tone."No dad I'm not fine" I blurted before I could stop myself then the dam broke loose."I'm scared, tired and hurting, everything around me is different. I don't know what to do anymore" I ranted blinking back hot tears. My
Violet's POV"Think, Violet. This human world isn't safe, and I can't keep protecting you," Axel uttered, raking a hand through his hair spiking the roots."I wouldn't need protection if you hadn't given me this mark!" I yelled, harsher than I intended. I didn't care if I was overreacting; he was the cause of everything."I'm sorry," his voice lowered with a sigh of resignation. "I'm taking responsibility Violet, I shouldn't have… I know I shouldn't but I lost control""How are you to protect me if you can't restrain yourself?"His lips parted to reply but then he paused, staring off into the space blankly.I scoffed at his silence speaking volumes."He's right," Elias whimpered. "More rogues will keep coming after you until they get what they want. Going with Axel is the best option"Axel cocked a brow at him before returning his attention towards me. "I hate him but at least he's logical ""And why should I believe him?" I snapped throwing my hands up. "Who knows if this is just ano
Violet's POV Axel's voice cut through the chaos right above us. Playing like a hero from a movie, he leaped from a tree, doing a backflip before hitting the ground with a dramatic thud, a smirk threatening to tear his face in half. Hope burst through me, and weakly, I pushed myself off the tree. My gaze landing on Elias's stunned expression, which quickly dissolved into resentment. "The Almighty Axel Sinclair," he scoffed. The nice man I thought I knew finally revealed his true colors. "You should know I'm a man of my promise," Axel responded, advancing towards him. "This is your fault," He accused, saying some other words that zone into the background. My body couldn't fight against the poison, and my knees couldn't hold me any longer. I fell to the dirt, watching the two men through my blurry vision. "Violet," A worried voice yelled out, I didn't know who said it, and frankly, I didn't want to find out. I just wanted the darkness to swallow me whole and take me away from this c
Violet POV I leaned through the pane like a puppy on the window who just wanted to watch the wind blow, thinking back to a time when things were roses and sunshine. It's funny how I took the little things for granted, back then I wished things would have been easier and less frustrating but now I would give anything to go back to those frustrating days. When my biggest worry was a stubborn patient who wanted to teach me my job or finding another pair of my good shoes… I let out a sigh, my shoulders slumping as I settled back in my seat. Funny how things had changed now I was on the run, trying to save myself from a berserk werewolf roommate, other werewolves, and even an over-possessive mate who saw me as a mistake.Who knew the devil had the most gorgeous face on the planet? One time he's protective other times he's the one I should be protected from.He wasn't normal that I was certain of, no normal person would drive recklessly because they had a bad feeling.I wanted to laugh it
Axel's POV I didn’t want to do this.I didn’t want to be the bad guy, to force her, to make her follow me. But something about him felt wrong. I couldn’t explain it, but the unease inside me wouldn’t go away. My instincts never failed me, I had to get Violet away from him even if it meant being the bad guy.I could spot her through the glass, her eyes wide. Hopefully, I hadn't hurt her by the little stunt I pulled. She began moving her hands, tugging at something before she opened the door. She stepped out looking angry- no, not angry… a little disheveled. Her lips parted slightly, her eyes wide as if she hadn’t expected to see me standing here.Something warm curled in my chest but it disappeared the moment the other door opened.“We don't need you here” I motioned at him to head back to his car. If he was smart he would do so my patience was thin."Axel seriously? Are you trying to get us killed?" Violet said hysterically like she was tired of this."Keep walking," I said, ignorin
Violet’s POVTick tock… tick tock.Everything seemed frozen in place except for the sound of the clock. Norman… Kate... how? Whoosh! The next thing I saw was a hand snatch the photo from my grip."Get your hands off that," Kate snapped, folding it tightly. Her fingers trembled, her grip strong on the paper.I swallowed, my heart still pounding as I took a step back, the look in her eyes triggered the memory of when she had almost killed me. "When was that taken? How are you and Norman… I voiced barely above a whisper, I couldn't stop myself, I needed to know. Her eyes darkened and I crossed my fingers hoping she wouldn't lash out like last time. “I know we share an apartment but that doesn't give you the right to snoop through my things.""I wasn’t snooping, it fell from a book." I retorted. She ignored me, glancing down at the bloodstain near the door. "I thought that was yours, looks like I was wrong, sigh” she muttered a bit disappointed. Then her gaze flicked to Elias. Her brows
Violet's POVEveryone had a choice…That was something I believed strongly unfortunately life didn't make sense anymore to tell what was real or not.If it was one big destiny set in stone why try at all? Cause no matter what route you chose you're going to still end up in the same position.“Do you know how to get rid of a mate mark?” I whispered the question caught Elias off guard. His eyebrows lifted slightly studying the shift of my demeanor. “I don't.” He exhaled, leaning back. “I’ve only heard of rejection after the bond is exposed. When both mates mark each other, it binds them together.”My fingers curled into fists. “So it can’t be undone?”Elias shook his head. “Not in the usual way. But you haven’t marked Axel back, which means there’s still a chance.”My throat tightened. “How?”He hesitated, rubbing his jaw. “I don’t know yet. I’ll have to go through everything I’ve learned. It’s not common for a werewolf to mark a human.” His gaze darkened in thought. “Since I’m half-wer
