Axel's POV

“Violet” Her name fell from my lips as the world snapped back into focus, and a dull ache pulsed behind my eyes.

How could I have let myself lose control like that? My chest rose as I saw her figure sprawled on the floor.

Panic shot through me like lightning and I dropped to my knees, hands shaking as I gathered her limp body into my arms. Her skin felt too cold, but she was breathing, it was shallow but I was relieved it was there.

I titled her head a little to cradle her in my arms exposing my mark on her neck, instantly a sickening wave of horror crashed over me.

No. No, no, no.

I wasn’t supposed to— I came here to reject her, to cut this bond before it could ruin everything. But the second my eyes locked on her, the second her scent curled through my senses, my wolf lunged forward taking over. I lost control.

And now—

Now she was bound to me.

My stomach twisted painfully. Violet was human. She wasn’t built to handle this. The bond was too strong, too much for her body to bear. And it was my fault.

My arms tightened around her. She looked small curled against my chest. Her lips, slightly parted, held no color. If she had screamed, I wouldn't have heard it. Had she fought? Had she been afraid?

Afraid of me?

My jaw clenched and I had to force down the urge to slap myself, how could I be so reckless.

The pull grew stronger now I had sealed the bond, the overwhelming urge to keep her from harm’s way threatened to consume me, her scent was the only thing worth breathing for and her face… the moon goddess be praised.

She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, and she was mine.

No, I made her mine.

Guilt crawled through my ribs as the realization dawned on me, I had taken something from her—something she never agreed to, something she might never want.

She was human, how was she to handle the news that I was a werewolf, will the pack members accept their Luna was human, a weaker vessel who couldn't protect them.

And worse? I couldn’t even keep her.

I had promised Kate, sworn loyalty to her as an Alpha my word meant everything, it was a principle I followed no matter but Violet was an exception.

She shifted slightly in my arms, a faint whimper escaping her lips.

My heart lurched.

I reached up, brushing strands of hair from her face. Her skin burned under my fingertips, feverish from the mate bond trying to root itself inside her. She wouldn’t survive this. Not without me.

And I—

I didn’t know what to do, or how to help ease her pain.

This was a mistake. A terrible, unforgivable mistake.

Through the haze of my thoughts I heard footsteps head towards us, I didn't pay attention to it till she called out to me.

“Axel!” Kate screamed excitedly, the sound twisted something in my chest.

I turned, still holding Violet, and Kate’s smile froze. Her bright eyes flickered over my face, studying me.

She could tell something was wrong.

The bags she held slipped lower in her hands. “What are you doing…?”

Then her gaze dropped to Violet in my arms.

Her mouth parted slightly, confusion flashing across her face. And then she saw it.

The mark.

The bags hit the ground with a thud.

Kate’s hands trembled as she covered her mouth, her entire body locking in place. Horror filled her eyes, drowning out every other emotion.

“Axel…” Her voice cracked. “Tell me this isn’t real.”

I swallowed hard, arms tightening around Violet. “Kate, I—”

“You marked her?” she whispered, like she was still trying to convince herself she wasn’t seeing what was right in front of her.

The devastation in her voice sliced through me like a blade.

“Kate please-

“After all the promises Axel, you lied to me!” She interrupted her eyes glassy filled with tears and I felt her heart break a little more.

“Kate this wasn’t supposed to happen, I—”

“How could you?” Her voice shot up full of hurt.

“Kate, listen to me.” My throat tightened as I struggled to explain. “I lost control, I—”

“You lost control?” Her hands clenched into fists at her sides. “After everything I did for you? After every promise?”

Guilt clawed up my chest. “I didn’t mean for this to happen—”

“Don’t.” Her voice wavered. “Just don’t.”

Pain twisted her features, her lips pressing together like she was trying to hold herself together. Then, in one sharp motion, she pointed at the door.

“Leave.”

I flinched. “Kate—”

“Get out.”

“I need you to listen.”

She took a step forward and shoved me.

I stumbled back dropping Violet stunned. She was shaking, her breathing ragged, but her strength caught me off guard.

“Now look what you've done, you're going to hurt her!” I blurted out before I could realize what I just did.

“You care so much about her huh? Kate accused, frustrated I ran a hand through my face.

“You're not letting me talk” I tried explaining yet she didn't want to concede.

“I don't want to hear it” Her voice broke. “Get out!”

The door slammed in my face before I could say another word.

“Kate please open up let me explain” I pleaded at the otherside of the door.

She didn't respond, instead I heard the lock of the door click.

A muscle in my jaw twitched. My chest heaved as I pressed a hand against the door, heart hammering.

I knocked harder this time. “Kate, please—”

No response.

I hit the door again, harder. “Just let me explain!”

Nothing.

My fists clenched as a growl rumbled low in my throat. “Damn it!”

I cursed under my breath and pressed my forehead against the wood, squeezing my eyes shut.

Violet was my fated mate but I owed Kate my life. Who am I supposed to choose?

Violet’s POVI was burned under my skin as I clutched my bag, my fingers digging into the strap. I couldn't believe Kate would do this to me, she knew how important this was to me and she could easily try to sabotage it because of a man she met.I didn't care how handsome he was. This was preposterous and insane, still not the craziest thing I found out in the last 24hrs.I couldn’t storm back to the apartment and give her a piece of my mind, I wasn’t stupid. If I confronted her, who knew what she’d do? The memory of her claws digging into my throat sent a chill down my spine. No, I wasn't going to risk my life.I let out a sigh, my grip loosening. “Daniel you gotta help me out here, I've worked my butt off, taken no leave, I've done everything by the book, you can't let them take me off the job” I pleaded desperately.Daniel sighed beside me, shifting on his feet. "Look, I know this isn’t fair. Everyone knows you have potential. They aren’t letting you go, but… you should stay away.

I forced my eyes open, the ground feeling rough beneath me and the place clogged with dust."You brought a human here?" A voice yelled out startling me.A second voice answered, defensive. "The scent led to her, I don't know what we did wrong."I stiffened, and my breath hitched as realization dawned on me.they weren’t talking about just any human. They were talking about me.My hands were bound, the rope digging into my wrists, but it was tied loosely. They hadn’t bothered to blindfold me anymore because I was human and they believed I was defenseless.I stayed still, listening and looking around as much as I could. They weren’t looking at me. The one who had yelled was pacing, his boots scraping against the floor. The other two stood rigid as if bracing for more anger.Slowly, carefully, I shifted back. My heart pounded so hard I could

Axel's POVSomething was wrong, I could feel it within but couldn't grasp why I felt that way.Even my wolf could feel it too, he was acting out growling within and fighting for control.“Go after her” he snarled, making my muscles tense but I still overpowered him, keeping him at bay.“With the way you are acting, why should I? So you can hurt her again” I spat trying to reason with him.“Your stubbornness is going to get our mate killed,” he snapped back.“She doesn't want us” I blurted out the words harshly, attracting attention from pedestrians. The humans stared at me wondering if I was running mad since it looked like I was talking to myself.I forced a smile acting as if everything was casual till they walked away then I exhaled sharply, shaking my head. It was the bond. That was all. Nothing else. I had no reason to go after her.My hands flexed at my sides. The need to move, to find her, burned under my skin, but I refused to give in.She said it herself; she doesn't need me.

The beeping sound also made it known I wasn't in my room… I was in the hospital.I sat up straight, my body agitated ready to defend myself but as I glanced around there was no one in the room, no threat to face. And I felt… fine. More than fine. I didn't find any reason I would need to be hospitalized.I tossed away the sheets ready to leave the bed to ask for answers when the door creaked open, and a woman in scrubs stepped inside. Her eyes widened the moment she saw me. "You're awake!"I frowned. "Yeah… what am I doing here?""You should lie back down," she insisted, rushing forward. "You need to rest.""I don’t need rest." I swung my legs over the side of the bed, planting my feet firmly on the cold tile. "I feel perfectly fine."In fact I felt better than fine, like the first cup of coffee when you wake in the morning. There was something about him I couldn't quite understand but it made me feel weird inside.“This is the patient,” the nurse said quickly but she didn't step past the doorway. I'm sure the reason was because Axel had scared her.The man barely acknowledged her, I could feel his gaze burn through my skin.“Nurse” he murmured, a quiet command that made her tense. “Calm yourself.”She inhaled sharply. “You don’t understand. Violet's POV The drive was so uncomfortable, Axel stayed quiet, his eyes closed like he was meditating but he knew every time I wanted to touch him."Stop" his lips barely moved as he uttered the word stopping me from touching his hair. His features looked more handsome in the dark shade of the car and I was bored out of my mind.My phone battery was dead and there was nothing else to do but annoy him."Are there any humans in your pack?""No" he kept giving curt replies to everything. My mind had gone through every possibility either I would be killed by a wolf or killed from being bored. His gloomy mood stemmed from Kate's anger earlier. If he was promised to her why was he so determined to get me?Maybe the mate bond had influenced it.Still, I had made my decision and I was going to see it through to the bitter end. Being in a city of wolves would be a new experience, maybe they had a hospital.“Is there a hospital in your pack?” I asked.“Yes” the thought made my heart swell.T

He let out a sigh of relief and reached to touch me, but I stopped him by raising my hand to block him."Axel, what's going on?" I questioned looking around. There were about five men situated next to a car. They all looked in our direction. I wanted to convince myself they were looking at their leader, Axel, but, no, they were looking at ME.Judging by their scornful looks, they had a problem with my existence."You just arrived, why don't we sit and confabulate" I cocked a brow at him, my gaze narrowing as I noticed something I missed the first time,He seemed anxious.Nothing like the jittering type, but I could tell by the way he tried to feign confidence. The nice man I thought I knew finally revealed his true colors. "You should know I'm a man of my promise," Axel responded, advancing towards him. "This is your fault," He accused, saying some other words that zone into the background. My body couldn't fight against the poison, and my knees couldn't hold me any longer. When both mates mark each other, it binds them together.”My fingers curled into fists. “So it can’t be undone?”Elias shook his head. “Not in the usual way. But you haven’t marked Axel back, which means there’s still a chance.”My throat tightened. “How?”He hesitated, rubbing his jaw. “I don’t know yet. I’ll have to go through everything I’ve learned.
