Trinity POV

A slight ache pulses down the middle of my head, but it isn’t anywhere close to the agonizing pain I was feeling earlier.  I keep my eyes shut, hoping it will go away.  To my frustrations, the slight ache continues.

Tentatively, I open my eyes.

I’m still in the same place as before.  Where exactly is it?  Why am I here?  Am I stuck in some kind of limbo?  Do I need to do something before I can go somewhere else?

Questions continue to roll through my mind.

My breath hitches.

Where is my wolf?  She hasn’t said anything or moved around.  Where is she?

I couldn’t have been injured so badly that my wolf retreated into the shadows.  An alpha should always hear their wolf, no matter how injured you are.

Fear washes over me.

No.  I can’t lose my wolf.  That would be the end of me.

A bright light flashes in front of me.

I quickly squint and hold my hand out in front of my face, shielding myself.

The light dims and another image, like before, appears in front of me, or I think it is an image.  I don’t remember seeing the woman before.

Suddenly, the woman walks towards me.

My breath hitches again.  Is she real or is this a video of something I don’t remember from my past?

The woman in a long, flowing white gown has an elegance I haven’t seen before.  She almost seems to float towards me.  Her long blonde hair sways in the breeze, but there isn’t a breeze.

My heart pounds against my chest.  What is going on?

Her gray eyes shimmer as if there is light shining on them, but there is none.

My mouth instantly goes dry.

An air of power circles around her as she calmly says, “You are alright.  I won’t let anything happen to you.”  Her angelic voice is smooth and somehow calms my nerves.

I shake my head.  “I don’t feel alright.  My head aches, and I have no clue where I’m at.  For all I know, I’m some prisoner in some far off land.”

A smile tugs at her mouth, and she shakes her head.  “This isn’t a prison, and I’m not holding you captive.  I’m protecting you and your wolf.”

My lip quivers.  “Where is my wolf?  I can’t sense her, and she isn’t talking.”

Her smile widens.  “I’m protecting her.  Don’t worry.  She will return when she is healed, but not before.  It isn’t safe for her to return until then.”

My legs wobble, and I sway slightly.  This can’t be happening.

The woman steps closer to me and pats my arm.  A calmness settles over me and my fears fade away.  “You are too important.  I won’t let anything happen to you.  You are destined for great things, along with your mate.”

My mate?

I tilt my head and stare at her.  “I thought maybe I didn’t have a mate.  Everyone else had found their mate except for me.”

With a sympathetic look, she shakes her head.  “I wouldn’t do that to you.  You are the first female alpha in your pack, and I’m very proud of you.  You desire to have a mate, but not just any mate.  He will appear soon.”

For the first time since waking up in this place, I have something to look forward to.  I have a mate and will meet him soon.

A wide grin erupts on me.

I wonder what he looks like.  Is he an alpha of his pack, too?  No.  I’m supposed to rule my pack.  My mate will come to my pack and help me lead everyone.

A picture of Drake flashes behind the woman, and my heart sinks.

No.  I’m married.

My smile morphs into a scowl as a line forms along my forehead.  Now, what am I going to do?  I’ve married another man.

I was celebrating our marriage before I fell for the stupid trap which got me in this situation.

Dread washes over me.  Am I going to have to reject my mate?  I don’t want to, but do I have a choice?

If my wolf was here, she would give me some helpful advice.

A white wolf walks out from behind the woman and sits down next to her.  The woman scratches the top of the wolf’s head.  “Things aren’t all messed up.  You can stop thinking the worst.”

I shake my head as anger rushes through me.  “How can you say that?  I followed my father’s advice and agreed to an arranged marriage to someone who isn’t my mate.  On my wedding night, I end up falling for a trap because I’m trying to protect my pack, which leaves me in this state.  Whatever this state is.”

I wave my hands around in the air.  “How can you say things aren’t messed up?  From where I’m standing, things are messed up beyond belief.  The icing on the cake would be if the Lycans have something to do with my attack, but I know my attackers are my own pack members.  I recognized all of them.  The only high point is I managed to kill a couple.  I’m still in shock that any of my pack members would betray not only me but my father, too.  I thought the entire pack was behind my father.”

Sadness fills her eyes.  “Greed can turn the most loyal people into someone you don’t recognize.  There isn’t anything you can do to change it if they put money, power, and titles above everything else.”

I agree.  Luckily, none of my family or friends are like that.  The only one who might be close is my brother, but I can understand his frustrations.

I nod.  “Greed is horrible.  Sane and rational people turn into crazies all because of it.”

***

Lance POV

I march through halls back towards the hospital, letting my frustrations flow into each heavy step, which booms through the halls warning everyone of my presence.  If my thundering footsteps aren’t enough, the deep scowl on my face and the murderous look in my eyes also warn everyone to stay back.  They know me well enough to scurry away.

My father’s demands keep running through my mind.

I must settle down and take my rightful place.

How can I do that without my mate?  I need my queen by my side to rule over the Lycans.

Our history has countless examples of what happens when the king’s mate isn’t his queen, including several horrendous periods where the king randomly picked someone to be by his side and the queen.

I can’t do that to the pack or to myself.

I need to find my mate and make her my queen.

I burst into the hospital and storm down the hall towards the private room and the injured wolf.  As I get closer to the room, my frustrations slowly fade, and worry sets in.  Is she alright?  Have they figured out who she is?  There can’t be that many blonde werewolves.  She is the only one I know of.

As I pass the nurse’s station down the hall from my final destination, the doctor, who has been talking to me, calls out.  “Prince.  We have some updates.  Do you want to know what they are?”

My feet instantly stop, and I abruptly turn towards him.  “What is it?  What did you find?”

Lance POV My heart races as the doctor pauses for a moment. “Maybe we should go into her room.” I nod and turn towards the end of the hall. My feet move a little faster than normal, but I fight against it and keep a steady pace alongside the doctor. Once inside the room, the doctor shuts the door. As soon as he turns towards me, I practically pounce on him. “What is it, doc? Did something bad happen, or is she not going to recover?” He shakes his head. “It isn’t anything like that. I think we’ve gotten her identity figured out. There were several posts online about a wedding happening over in New Moon pack with their first ever female alpha heir to a guy from Dark Moon pack. I can do some more digging, but since there are very few female alphas with this strong of alpha blood, I can assume this injured wolf is her.” I glance across the room at the hospital bed and the unconscious blonde wolf. “I would agree with you. Did you hear about anything or what happened?” “Sor

Lance POV Like I’ve been doing for the last few days, I march into the hospital and towards the private room. People scurry out of my way as my heavy footsteps echo through the halls. Just like every other time, the closer I get to Trinity’s room my frustrations and anger slowly melt away. I still can’t explain what is happening to me, but I know for sure I’m not liking it. My cold exterior is what I use to put fear into others. If I don’t have that, how can I rule as the king. A king should be feared by all. My father is. As I approach the nurse’s station, a young nurse dashes towards me. “Prince! Something has happened!” I immediately stop and whip my focus around towards her and bark, “What?” Fear flashes across her face, and she stumbles to a stop. Quickly, she lowers her head and soft mumbles, “She has shifted.” I shake my head. “What? Who has shifted?” My lip twitches up in irritation. Her hand trembles as she raises it up and points down the hall. “Trin…”

Lance POV This can’t be possible. I blink, but it doesn’t change. I run my bloody finger along the deep gouge on Trinity’s cheek and my chest tightens. My father steps closer to the bed and grunts, “What is it? Did something go wrong?” My eyes widen and drift over to him. The words to explain it run through my head, but when I open my mouth nothing comes out. They are stuck on the lump in my throat. I move my mouth, but still nothing comes out. Confusion flashes across my father’s face. His patience runs thin as he barks, “Tell me what is going on.” His command has me instinctively responding as I mumble, “It is gone.” His face scrunches up as he stares at me. “What is gone? I don’t understand.” He turns his attention back to Trinity and slaps my hand away from her, before sliding his thumb over the area where the deep cut had been. He instantly realizes what I’m referring to and snaps his eyes back up to me and gasps, “The cut. It is gone.” In a daze, I nod.

We will have to wait and see.” Wait and see what? As the warmth creeps across my body, all my aches slowly disappear. My eyes slowly flutter and open. The bright light instantly blinds me, and I quickly close them again. I breathe a small sigh of relief because I’m out of the crazy limbo place. Shuffling sounds around me pull my attention back to reality. I’m finally awake. I open my eyes again and find a godlike man with short brown hair and warm caramel brown eyes standing on one side of the bed. The gold flecks in his eyes sparkle and lure me to him. The warmth from earlier continues to spread through me, making the tips of my fingers and toes tingle. A gruff voice pulls me to the other side of the bed. “How do you feel?” The authority those few words hold puts me on edge and ma

I forced him to do a test and cut his hand. I then pricked your finger. Your blood instantly healed his cut. I don’t quite understand why. He can heal people but not instantly like this and never was there someone can heal him like this. It is very strange. But we are also keeping this little bit of information to just the three of us. Okay?”His last word rings out with an air of authority and is more of a demand than a question. I swallow hard and nod. “Okay.”I glance to my side at Lance. Is he a healer? The vein along my face pulses hard and echoes in my head, but I don’t care. My daughter and the heir to the pack is missing! We need to bring her back!I drill my glare into each person as I scan the room, letting them know this isn’t the time to hold anything back. Seldom do we use the elder’s meeting room, but it is one of the few places within the pack where I can talk to my ranking officers and the elders with no one being able to ease drop on us. The room has been soundproofed and is large enough to handle all of us. I can scream until I’m hoarse, and no one outside will hear a thing. My burning glare stops at a small group of my top security personnel. “TELL ME HOW YOU ARE UNABLE TO FIND HER!! But it isn’t ready yet. They thought they had more time. “UGH!!!!” Her body tightens in my arms while her hands cradle her stomach. Pain, like I’ve never felt before, shoots through our bond and my body. My knees almost buckle as her scream echoes down the hall. I’ve been in plenty of battles and have been wounded many times, but this almost stops me in my tracks. I’ve already told the medical staff we are coming. My gaze stays focused ahead as a couple of staff walk into the hall. I shout, “Open the door!”Bethany and her parents run beside me. Hopefully, there won’t be any complications when the time comes. Bethany glances up from her plate of breakfast food and nods. “Luckily, things are going better. I’m still not able to eat with everyone in the dining hall, but the doctor thinks I can ease myself into it soon. One good sign is seeing the male staff doesn’t cause me to flinch anymore. I’m so thankful for the King allowing his friend to come and help me. When the doctor first arrived, I was too afraid of him, and all men. The medical staff have packed beds in any place where one will fit. Each patient has the same symptoms as the next. As soon as the white mist got near them, they collapsed.Luckily, all the medical staff had gotten to the bunker in time before any explosions happened or any chemicals were released into the air. I still have heard nothing from my father regarding his pack, but I’m going to assume the same thing has happened there. I silently pray to the moon goddess he got all the medical staff safely in the bunker before the chemical attack started. My stomach churns, and a sense of dread gnaws at me. If the goal was to break Alpha Derrick out of his cell, his brother has gone through all this and has come up short. The lycans had prepared for this and were waiting. It doesn’t hold the force and authority it will once I officially take my title and go through the ceremony, but it is still a command they must follow. This isn’t over yet.Everyone in the two packs was getting restless and wanted out of the bunkers, so my father and the King had no choice but to allow it. Neither of them wanted to agree. The two could have stood their ground, but they didn’t have a solid reason to deny the people’s demands. Plus, everyone was lashing out at each other. Being locked up for a few weeks, even though both bunkers are fairly large, was getting on everyone’s nerves. If they had to stay down there much longer, there would have been a fight within packs. Something tells me they will regret their requests. Lance tightens his arm around my bare back and pulls me closer to his broad chest. “Babe, what is wrong? Are you not feeling well?
