His kiss was intoxicating, combined with feel of his sexy, powerful body, he had her wanting more, craving more than was possible.
His soft but firm lips glided against hers almost roughly, his tongue thrusting into the recess of her mouth without waiting for permission.
He wrapped her in a cloud of dangerous desire, brought her forbidden pleasure.
But the image of his eyes so like the one she longed to stare into again brought a pang of guilt with it.
She broke the kiss, missing the warmth that came with his fiery kiss and his arousing tongue almost immediately.
His hand was like a steel band around her, still pressing her to him as he raised his head to question her action with his eyes.
She shied away from offering any explanation.
How do you explain to your super hot boss who suddenly is very interested in initiating intimate contacts with you, even though some of them are out of anger, that while he was plundering the depth of your mouth with his tongue, you'd been thinking about another guy.
One who came with a decade old memory.
She tried to move out of the circle of his arm but his strong hold wouldn't let her take so much as a step back.
His eyes were trying to find God knows what on her face while the fingers of his free hand brushed against her lips, sensitive and slightly swollen from his kiss.
This Jordan McGrath here was a version that was still new to her. He was different from the man she met the first day she'd walked into this office.
If only this moment could last forever, with him looking at her in that way that made her cream her panties.
But something this good never lasts.
Never.
The doors slid open as Lisa walked into their office.
Jojo turned and colored at being caught in an intimate position with the big bad boss by the one person who hated her most in this entire building.
Jordan was distracted for a milli second by the intrusion and that was all the time she needed to slip out of his now loosened grip and dash back to her work space.
She blushed deeper in embarrassment when she was met with Lisa's condescending glare.
The blonde somehow managed to look like she despised her more in that moment than ever.
She wondered if there was an underlying story to that.
Well, there went her chance of ever making peace with the only other human up here that she could have bonded with.
"Why are you in here, Monroe?"
Jordan sounded too relaxed, almost smug, like being caught with his personal assistant in his arms wasn't a big deal.
Maybe it wasn't for him. The thought irked Jojo. No wonder he sounded like the cat who got all the cream while she was feeling like a chewed gum under his shoe.
She felt like ten different kinds of a fool for allowing her lust for the man cloud her normally impeccable judgement.
She barely heard Lisa's forced, "You had a call on line two and you wouldn't answer mine to affirm if I was to forward it or cancel."
"Can't say I don't know why now."
The snide remark that was for Jojo's benefit was muttered low enough for Jordan to have missed it but audible enough for her to catch the venom behind them.
Jojo heard it alright and wished she could disappear.
"Who was on the line?"
Jordan's eyes were back on Jojo even though his question was directed to Lisa.
He missed the blonde's eye roll.
He was too busy watching Jojo's every move, enjoying the interesting shades of red her neck and the profile of her face that he could see were turning.
She blushed prettily starting from the nape of her neck then spreading slowly up to her beautiful face.
He liked it almost as much as he liked everything else about her.
"It was Miss Fayre Carson."
A sliver of silence, then "Your girlfriend."
That last part was added for Jojo's benefit, he noticed. Again.
If he'd only suspected, Jojo's discomfort and Lisa's smile of satisfaction served as a solid confirmation.
Her strong emphasis on the word left a sour taste in his mouth and 'Ex girlfriend' sprang to the tip of his tongue.
He let it sit there, biting it back because he wasn't about to stoop to the blonde's level. That would be as degrading as it got and Jojo already took it as it was offered.
Her obvious flinch, like he'd suddenly slapped her across her face, at the mention of his 'girlfriend' was the tell tale sign.
"You are not to forward any calls of hers to me. Do you understand that?"
"But si...."
"Do you understand that, Monroe?" He cut her off.
He was pissed, Jojo would know that having been at the receiving end of that cold and curt voice time and again.
"Yes sir."
His non patronizing tone soured Lisa up the more and she cut Jojo a hard to decipher glare before she stomped out.
She could feel Jordan's eyes stray to and stay on her a while before he abruptly turned and went to sit behind his desk.
She focused her attention in the work piled on her table. Or at least she tried to.
But the memory of being pressed against his powerful body and being so hungrily kissed kept swaying her attention away.
Focusing on anything that wasn't him proved a great feat in the moment.
She lifted her fingers absently to her thoroughly kissed mouth, pressing on her still sensitive lips, trying to catch the fleeting sensation of the imprint his mouth left on hers.
This new tilt to the balance of the relationship between then was as confusing as it was frustrating.
How do you maintain a strict professional relationship with your boss after he just gave you the best kiss of the whole twenty six plus years that was your life?
They didn't talk after that and she avoided looking at him for fear of making eye contact.
She did get a couple of works done as the day went but for the most part she was distracted by his tempting and dominating presence.
The only message she'd received from Maria promised her mom was still as she left her this morning and Riley was done with her homework and was visiting her best friend Annie.
As the hours flew by, it was like this morning had never happened.
Jordan had reverted back to his normal taciturn and cold self and she might as well have imagined the one kiss that had reduced her wildest fantasy to nothing.
She was part dissapointed and part relieved.
It probably was for the best. It would serve to tone down the level of awkwardness that came with indulging office fantasies with none other than your boss.
What was she thinking letting him kiss her like that in the first place?
By the end of the day, she was on the verge of frustration.
Although he hadn't said another word to her, his imposing presence in the room was distraction enough and it was affecting her work.
For her, that was a big deal. She prided herself on her ability to stay focused on the course of her job and having that focus so easily swayed away by her uncontrollable attraction to the big boss was frustrating.
When her work hours came to an end, she couldn't have been more glad.
She called her good bye to Jordan as she packed her stuffs up and for a moment he looked like he wanted to say something to her but he must have thought better of it cause he only grunted in response.
Jojo took it as it was and left.
She had to use the outer elevator. It would be safer to face Lisa now than having to stay a minute more in the same room with him would.
Jordan pushed his fingers through his hair. Again.
Working with Jojo in the same office was already hard on his control and now that he'd kissed her, tasted the secret haven that was all her, he wasn't sure he could refrain from indulging again.
That would be too much to ask of his restraint and control.
Blocking her out, recoiling farther into himself, pretending this morning didn't happen, they were all designs to help him keep his hands to himself and his mind on his work.
He needed to remind himself that Jojo was off limit.
His Jojo.
If only that summer hadn't happened. If only the last decade hadn't passed. Who knows what would have been.
But it had and now he didn't even know where to begin in closing the rift it had created.
She still didn't recognize him. Sometimes she looked at him like he triggered her memory of him, other times he saw little snatches of recognition caused by his mostly intended slips but then he'd watch it fade away because she couldn't reconcile the boy she knew then to the man she knows now.
He didn't blame her though, he'd changed a great deal.
He bore no semblance to the playful little boy he'd been or the carefree player he'd become in his teen years.
A lot has changed. He was a man now. A man who'd had to fight to be where he is now despite his prestigious and 'monied' family background.
And she was his Jojo. His childhood best friend and now his tempting personal assistant.
And that was all he knew of her. That didn't come as a surprise, he thought, because every time he tried taking a step closer to bridging the professional gap she imposed between them, she was always quick to take three back.
This morning was a dent in her professional armour. And that's a dent he wanted to keep making.
He glanced at her empty desk, imagining her there her brows furrowed in mock concentration, her neck reddening in a cute blush from something he'd done, slips of her hair falling into her face. Then there was the annoyingly unattractive cloth she loved to wear.
Today's wasnt as bad looking as the others before it but the color was just as uncomplimenting to her skin tone as he's ever seen it.
The thought of her brought a tugging smile to his lips.
His phone rang then and the voice that purred his name from the other end wiped the smile away.
-
Jojo had been relieved to have found Lisa missing at her desk. Thank God for small mercies.
She ran into Marcy, the sweet older lady that always had something to smile about, when the elevator opened on the ground floor.
She helped the other woman with the loads of files and documents she was carrying.
"If it's not the top floor princess coming to my rescue." Marcy joked.
Though they didn't run into each other often, there's always a fondness about their conversations.
"It is I indeed." Jojo laughed.
"Why do you need to carry so much home?" Jojo asked adjusting the weight as she followed Marcy to her car.
"Oh that, I'm having my grand babies over tomorrow so I don't want to work late or have to take any work home then, and these," she gestured to the load both she and Jojo were carrying, "have to all be keyed into the system by the end of the week. It's Thursday today. So you see."
"You have grand babies!?"
"And why is that surprising?" Marcy couldn't hide her smile.
"Because you don't look like it. I mean look at you."
Marcy laughed at the look on her face.
"I'm days away from becoming fifty, grand babies are normal at this age honey."
Jojo almost didn't believe her. The woman didn't look a day older than forty. Maybe forty one.
But fifty, no way.
She talked to Marcy for a while longer before the older woman had to run.
She was still shocked by Marcy's age reveal long after the other woman had left.
Maybe that was why she didn't notice the person coming at her until she bumped into him.
Before she could apologize, he was already gone and she could only see his dark coat turning a corner.
She could have sworn she just relieved that afternoon at Morgan Inc.
Only now she stood outside McGrath real estate housing and construction, trying to understand what was happening and who that man was.
Jojo hated the smell of hospitals more than she hated anything else. That nauseating pungent reek of bleaking hope and long empty hours. She sat uncomfortably on one of the old brown benches with peeling paint in the plain waiting room, waiting for the gray haired Doctor Thomas that practiced and consulted here to call for them. The room was dusted with a few other patients waiting to be called too along side their supportive family or friends. At least they attempted conversations. They say words and even if they hold no much solid meaning to their audience it felt good to her ears. She wished Meghan would try that sometimes. It would feel good to hear her mother's voice again. It's been so long now she wondered if it would sound the same or foreign if she gets to hear it again.Maybe if she'd tried talking to someone about what happened that night,
Fayre didn't notice the other woman in the room upon her entry. All her attention had been honed on the look she'd imagined would be splashed across Jordan's face when he saw her. It's been months since she last saw him and though they'd broken up on very rough terms this last time, she was sure he wouldn't be able to resist her once he saw her again and gets a taste of what he's been missing. After all, she wore this figure hugging, revealing dress whose red color screamed 'fuck me' for a purpose. No man have been able to resist her and her smoking hot body before, he wouldn't be any different, not after she's made special effort to tempt him back. They've had break ups before, ones almost as messy as the current one, but he always took her back anyways. She shouldn't feel any worry about this time around. She stood glaring at the vacant space staring back at her, her disappoin
"What are you doing in here, Fayre?"The low resonance of his voice carried his anger with it but Fayre didn't take the hint. This was her Jordan after all and no matter how angry he got at her, she always managed to calm him and make him come around her way.She smiled at him, subtly pushing her chest out and making her voluptuous breasts more obvious. She smirked as she noticed his eyes drop to them momentarily. This leopard can never change his spots even if he tried."Baby," she drawled,"I've been waiting forever for you. Thought I'd sur
It was just seven pm, give or take a few minutes as Jojo stood outside her house.Whatever function they were attending didn't start until eight but Jordan had insisted she be ready by seven so here she was.She was nervous.Well she was until Jordan's sleek, black Mercedes pulled to a stop in front of her miserable excuse of a home.First, all that nervousness had transformed into a soul ripping pool of embarrassment and then they'd morphed into a sizzling bolt of desire that made her wish she had time to go back in and change her under wear as soon as his door had opened and the man stepped out.He was incredibly hot for lack of better words. He was the perfect blend of gorgeous and sexy. Fuck he gave the words meaning on a whole different level.A Much, much, better level. His whole six feet three body was decked out in a snug fitting,
A fucking princess! That is what Jojo felt like. The perfect, figure hugging, black dress she had on, God bless whoever picked it out, was nothing short of gorgeous. It did wonderful things to her figure, hugging her in all the right places. Her hair had been released from the boring bun she'd done it in and was now in amazing curly waves that flowed down her back.'Miss touchy', whose name she'd learned was Betty, had performed magic on her and she could hardly believe that the woman that had smiled back at her from the wide, floor length mirror was indeed herself.Albeit the surprise it had been and the snarking voice at the back of her head that keeps asking her,'Why is he doing this? What does he want?'she could really kiss him right now.A high crashing thought flitted through her mind.
The front door creaked open and there were footsteps.Meghan knew they didn't belong to anyone she wanted to see in the moment. Not even Layla, the new lady that pops in every now and again to check on her since sweet ol' Maria left, didn't walk like that. For one, they were heavy and patterned and definitely belonged to a male.A big one at that, probably with dirty blonde hair, receding hairline, reeking breath and eyes as brown as they were malevolent.Fear clogged her throat, stealing her already shallow breath and a slight tremor shook her thin body.Doors were being thrown open, she could hear it, and there were more footsteps now. He'd brought people with him.She knew who that devil in her house was and what he was looking for but he'd have to literally take her to hell to get it.She prayed to every God listening&
Jordan stood stiff at one corner of the small waiting room, the only moving part of his physique were his eyes following Jojo's petite figure as she paced the length of the room.He didn't even notice Brad standing awkwardly at the other corner of the room nursing a fraction of unease. He wasn't acquainted with the woman in question, so the same level of tension and fear wasn't expected of him.Neither was it expected of Jordan but he'd known the woman. She'd been like a second mother to him while he was growing up because he'd spent half his time during childhood at the Collen's home either waiting for Jojo's lazy ass to get ready or dropping her off and ending up staying over.He knew exactly how Jojo felt in the moment and he wanted to go to her and hold her, she needed someone to promise that everything was going to be okay and he wanted to be her man but he couldn't. Didn't dare.
The ride to Jordan's home was quiet.Jojo stared out of the window, wondering why she'd given in to the bizzare idea of staying with him even if it was only for tonightMaybe because she had Riley to consider.Carl Stratton had dropped her off at the hospital because his family and himself were going out of town for a few days and there had been no where else to take her.Or it could be because Jordan had pulled that sexy, commanding voice on her.Riley's small body snuggled into hers and her hands instinctively wrapped around it.Apart from responding to Riley's enthusiastic greeting back at the hospital and coercing her to give in to his deal, Jordan haven't said a thing and Jojo worried that he already regretted offering in the first place. He was opening his home to his mere PA, and the added baggage of her family, of course he regretted it already.
Hailey stood in front of the whole family, her seven year old palms sweaty. She'd spent the whole night reciting this all over again, so it shouldn't be a big deal, yeah? "It's okay, baby, it's just us." Jojo whispered from her seat, her very pregnant belly making her movement strenuous. Yeah, just them. Well, here goes nothing. "Uhhmm, this is my family tree....." She started a little shyly, pointing to the treelike structure balanced on the table next to her, stuck full of pictures. Her voice was so small, but it carried around the room. "I made it myself, well, mummy helped.....a lot. And I'm taking it to school for show and tell on Monday." She could see her daddy giving her an encouraging thumbs up and it put the light into her eyes and confidence in her voice. "From the top, this is Granny Meghan and Grandpa Tommy who I didn't get to meet and they gave birth to my mommy and Riley. Too bad they died b
If JoJo had thought her life was a mess, the truth she'd just discovered crashed if past the grounds, it shattered every truth she's ever known and believed. Uncle Fer....... Fucking Ferdinand! That monster. He'd been the architect of a her pain and problem but he'd always crawled back to blow on them and make it seem like he'd cared. And to find out that he'd been her sperm donor, it killed her to believe it. Jordan was as struck as she was from what they'd read. She ached for her mother too, who'd had to live with all these for years, having no one to be by her side while she played sick and lost in a bid to protect her girls. It must have been hard, being in bed all year round, reliving the nightmares of both events and hating herself for being so weak. She swore she'd be stronger, for herself and Riley and they'd bring the man to Justice, for her mom. But I like her mom, she had Jordan by her side in these t
Jocelyn,Been so long I said your name, guess this might be last you'd hear me call you by your name.So many years have passed and sometimes I lie here, in bed and regret the decisions I made in the past. But I'll always hope you realise it was all for the best, I did what I did to keep you and your sister alive and out of the clutches of the devil, Ferdinand. The man is a devil that shouldn't have found his way into our lives, but he did and till date, we are all still suffering in the wake of all his evil deeds.Tommy, your father, bless his soul, was a good man, the best ever.I met them both while in college and yeah, Ferdinand asked to court me first, but my heart had been longing for another and I'd turned him down.Turns out that was a sin he couldn't forgive.
"No, that can't be." Jojo muttered in disgust as she watched the video playing out before her. There's no way this is true, no way it's him. It'd kill her to believe it was and see just how blind she's been all these years, to find out that her mom had been right all along......God, no.But her denial didn't bring any desired difference to what she'd seen, it didn't wipe the memory or make the video a prank. This had been the night she'd lost her father, this had been where his body had been found, there's no mistaking it, she'd never forgotten. It took Jordan rubbing down her back and asking her in a concerned voice to breathe, to realise she'd been holding her breath.Maybe if she holds it in long enough, she'd realise that all this is just a dream home wrong.Or maybe it wasn't and she was just in a hopeless denial."Please Jordan, tell me it's not him, tell me that's not Uncle Ferdie, I'll believe you."She sob
After Riley was fed and out with her very own little family, Alfie and puppy, JoJo got to work searching for that little box.It was one thing to loose her mother so unexpectedly, but to loose the last trace of evidence and her only hope to bringing whoever had been behind her decade old pain to justice? No fucking way!She turned the room they'd been in inside out in her search, but it was nowhere to be found. She was already halfway done with fixing it back up when it did occur to her that she'd last seen the box while lying in that bed with Jordan. It made a lot of sense to think that he had gone missing from the room at the same time her box had and that easily translates to it possibly being in his possession. It kinda pissed her to have him butting into her family issues without her permission, even without the confirmation that he had.Stupid, yeah, but it did embarrassment to have all her linens in his hands without any contro
JoJo woke before Riley did, there'd been nightmares that didn't let her hold onto the oblivion for too long. She was glad Riley wasn't subjected to the same fate though that didn't hold for long. Tiny feet and big, soulful brown eyes found her sooner than she'd have liked, clouded with visible confusion and fear. "Come here, baby girl." She called to her from where she stood at the door. It did just occur to her why the room looked emptier than she last remembered it. Jordan had been with her before she'd succumbed to the luring hands of sleep. "Come." Her voice was much softer, pleading and beckoning, she didn't want force her, that could be more harmful than it'd be good. The younger girl finally gave in, and came into the room, crawling into JoJo's laps. She held her, stroking her hair, the quietness that was hanging around the house making her nauseous. Maybe it's always been this quiet with
The twist got bigger the deeper he dug and the plot hole wider. There'd been a lot going on with Tom Collen and Ferdinand and the more he discovered, the clearer it got and the more his theory on Tom's murder held. The files on the card were too many to peruse at one go so he abandoned it for the line card he'd inserted to read.At first there seemed to be nothing of interest in it until he stumbled upon a video record. It looked to be from a security camera recording from long ago.He sat in his chair, watching it and wishing he didn't have to.It made it worse that this was what he'd have to show JoJo, the horror she'd have to see.If only he could save her this, the pain and the nightmare. She didn't deserve it, not do soon, not with everything she was dealing with.He dialed Brad instead, requesting for immediate audience. They've become an investigative team of their own after all, bent on riding the world of
She finally fell asleep, right in Jordan's arms, drained from all the tears she'd cried and all the grief she'd let herself become buried under. He understood her pain, he'd seen it, experienced it and it was nothing to joke about. And he'd give anything in a heartbeat to take it away from her, to see her face light up with one of those her beautiful smiles that always made his day. These times have been the hardest and this crown looks too heavy for the head wearing it.But one thing he was sure of was that he was going no where, he'd be her, by her side until it gets better and even then, there'd be no force strong enough to remove him from her life.He loves her more than he'd ever imagined he could love anyone, his baby girl, his JoJo.She looked calmed while she slept, a tad bit relaxed, better than she'd been when she'd been up and grieving. He leaned down, pressing his lips to her forehead in a gentle, tender kiss. Her g
Meghan's passing was a blow nobody expected, and everyone was taking it hard around the house, especially JoJo.She'd never expected this day to come so soon and now that it did, it did hit hard. She'd been do lost, but Jordan had been there every step of the way, taking charge and getting the body to the morgue. At least that's where she believes they went. She'd let herself get sucked into shadowing Riley and crying her soul out.Riley was asleep now, having cried herself to it, and now JoJo had time on her hands to mourn. She had the watch she'd recently just retrieved, fiddling with it and wondering what she's supposed to do with the damn thing without Meghan to give her a guide. The door to the room came open and Jordan stood at the door. She wasn't expecting him to be back so soon. She could see the pity swimming in his eyes even before he took steps closer in her direction. He was careful not to wake
